On this visit, which it has been quite some years since I've been back, I was a little surprised to see very low stock if not only limited stock. For example, I am used to seeing the logs of three hazelnuts laid together and covered in dark chocolate or milk chocolate, these were nowhere to be found on the counter. There are several other versions that were not visible or laid out on the counter. However, they did have a wider assortment of the solid animals for example, how convenient that they had the horses in preparation for Chinese new year Prices here haven't changed at all, not surprised. Glad the staff on this particular day there were three of them behind the counter, which is a lot and we're very friendly and attentive as well. Disappointingly, though despite the amount of chocolates I bought, which was a little short of $100 was never offered a sample of anything and every time I go I'm always offered multiple samples. Not sure if this is a new policy or a new practice. One of the employees also noted that the owner of the store was sitting directly outside of the store and she and the gentleman were seated at a small table. The woman was on the phone the entire time, and the man was gazing at his cell phone as well. I'm glad that they let their employees do their jobs and they don't micromanage apparently which is good. I also expected to see more Christmas decor and just more decor in general as these stores are typically filled to the brim with their cute decorations and the sample giveaway boxes and the flowers so I was a little surprised to see it pared back this year.

Before ordering, they offered me a free sample of one of their many fudge flavors, which was a nice touch. They also had a huge selection of chocolates and fudge bites, and honestly everything looked so tempting. But I had been craving ice cream, so I went with the chocolate fudge flavor. The ice cream itself was delicious. As a chocolate lover, it definitely hit the spot, rich, creamy, and full of chocolate flavor. The only thing that caught me off guard was the price. I ordered a regular cup, and it came out to over $12. I can understand paying that much for a loaded sundae with lots of toppings, but over $12 for a simple scoop of ice cream felt a bit steep. It was really good, but I'm not sure it was $12 good. I'm glad I tried it once, especially if you're a chocolate fan, but the price would probably make me think twice before coming back.

Heard if you buy the super expensive tin, it also doesn't help that much in terms of freshness, so best to buy and eat instantly.

Located right off the Kimball ramp of the Kennedy Expressway, and just one block south of the Home Depot at Kimball and Addison. The prices are fantastic. The employees are just the kind of people who should be working in a candy store-very sweet. They have chocolate covered everything here: nuts, berries, pretzels, plus those yogurt-covered candies, bags of whole nuts (cashews at $5.99 a lb.), chocolate and yogurt coated caramel and nut patties, and lot's of very reasonably priced holiday and gift packaged items. Many are between $5-10.00. (Great picks for those folks you don't really like but for some reason you need to give them a gift.) Or stocking stuffers. I acted as my own parent here and said: "OK, now you can buy one thing here, just ONE!" I ended up with a nice large bag of something I know I will eat in one day once I start on them: Chocolate-coated sponge candy. An 11 ounce bag for $5.14! Such a deal. If I'm a good boy this week, perhaps my inner parent will let me go back for more goodies!

This is a cute space with LOTS of nostalgic candy. I picked up several items I remember enjoying at my grandmother's house when I was a kid, including gummi rings, violet mints, wafer saucers, and more. The owner is a delight to talk to, and everything is very reasonably priced. Dizzy Cow also has small gifts (mostly for kids.) There are toys, lip balms, little craft kits... lots of things you'd want if you were on your way to a niece or nephew's house or a babysitting gig. I picked out an ice cream-shaped bath loofah for my sister, and the owner went WAY above and beyond, wrapping it with ribbon, a sticker, and a sweet little bubble blower for free. Wow! I heard Dizzy Cow does goodie bags. I will definitely be asking after them the next time I am tasked with hosting a party at my job. When I was done shopping, the owner also recommended a store down the block, which I went to and enjoyed. North Center's small business owners clearly know and love each other. :)

Most assorted boxes had chocolates with something inside. I was looking for something more pure. Our friend bought two smaller (9 pieces each, I believe) boxes. When we saw him next, he had tried a piece or two and mentioned they were very good. We found Mint Batons in the sale section. Originally $12 each (using my memory here), the Mint Batons were on sale for $4.50. I bought three. I like that they are just chocolate, for the most part. They are delicious and they scratch the itch I've been having for another dark chocolate mint candy. If we were to return (we don't live in Chicago), I'd try some of the filled chocolates. Also, they sell hot chocolate... and I mean hot chocolate. Okay this is touch, but why reinvent the wheel. The call it drinking chocolate. I LOVE this idea and will definitely partake if we return.

Upon entering the establishment, I was very impressed with how gorgeous the place is; it's perfectly curated with living plants, rich brown floors and wood shelving, beautiful light, and elegantly minimalistic packaging. There were vegan candy options in a variety of places, but we decided to gift ourselves an entire box of "Unbelievably Vegan" chocolates. So far, the ones we ate are delicious! One of my biggest pet peeves with vegan candy is that it's usually way too sweet, to the point where it actually hurts my teeth. These are totally different--they're super flavorful, rich, creamy, and not overly sweet at all. They are perfect for a self-care treat, but the chic boxes also make them a great gift. Oh, and the staff working here were wonderful! Tipping is optional, but they deserve it!
