We stopped in here after having lunch next door to pick up some treats for our family - the shop itself feels like granny's bake shop, very cute but overwhelmed with product. All of the pre-packed treats looked delicious, some outsourced not from the bakery. However, the pastries in the case looked very stale - to the point where I questioned if they were display items. To be safe, we got some oatmeal raisin cookies & chocolate chip shortbreads - the main reason for my low rating is that these two items were $30, absolutely insanely high pricing. These were a gift to our family so I was just going to pay to give them the treats, but otherwise I would've put them back. The good side is that both cookies were good! Oatmeal raisin was soft and chewy, the chocolate chip shortbread buttery and flakey. Nothing too special though for the price pint. read more

I really want to like and support this local bakery, but my experience has been that the prices are very high relative to the rather average quality of the bakery items. For example, over $6 for an apple fritter. I'm glad to pay premium prices for premium fresh baked pastries, but I haven't found their offerings to be notably better tasting or fresher than what the local supermarkets sell for less. I've also found one of the shopkeepers to be very pleasant but another to be rather temperamental. I am rooting for this bakery but feel it has room to up its game for my continued business. read more

Small sample size - just one French baguette purchased at the McDowell Mountain Farmers Market and Craft Show. That one baguette cost $7. Expensive, but if it were good I'd give them a pass. It was not good - in fact it was stale. One bite and we tossed it. We thought about returning it or freezing and heating in the oven another day. But, honestly it was so bad we just wanted to cut our losses and move on. read more

First time coming to this bakery and it didn't disappoint! Plenty for you to choose from! Fresh pastries, pies, macrons, speciality popcorn, chocolates & the list goes on! Even doggie cookies! Review the negative reviews, Now I know they are accurate and I wish I had considered them prior to losing $100 plus at this merchant. I encourage persons reading to look for a more honest baker/bakery, one that is not over-priced and advertises products where they change or modify ingredients including the look of the product from a picture clearly posted on their website! Divine Bakery stands among the quirky, cute shops of Cave Creek, but it is not divine. The owner Susan agreed to make a cake for Sunday 10/27/24 for me. I called Friday 10/25 asking for availability of her European Mocha Fudge Cake, as pictured and named on her website! I assumed this was a popular product and at least would be available as a whole cake or slices on Saturday 10/26. An associate Barbara, I believe shared she would have to call the baker and that the cake could maybe be made last minute, but would cost extra. Instead of the usual $25-30 extra, they charged ~$10 extra to make the cake last minute. In total, I was charged $107.46 on my credit card on Friday 10/25. I did think this was a very expensive charge for a cake and wished I had said no to the purchase at that time. There is no cake price list on Susan's website. The picture of the cake I was to receive and the ingredients (for example fudge and mocha) were not part of the cake I received. This was a weird texture chocolate cake with buttercream that did not taste good or like any buttercream I had in the past. I emailed Susan Sunday evening requesting a 75% refund, to which she immediately went into defensive mode about her product, sharing she made it last minute and pretty much not as it usually is made, adding, or doing extra things for the cake I received. That is even more weird. Susan was defensive and she also texted anticipating I guess that I would write a bad review. I usually do not write reviews unless something is very wrong. Susan's lack of awareness and humility in perhaps something being wrong told me to at least be honest and warn others. Susan kept trying to offer a $25 gift credit to return to her bakery, but her cake texture was so off-putting, I would prefer to stay away from anything she bakes and I do not live near Cave Creek. I would never return a cake and understand the rules on perishable products, but she kept discussing that as well. I felt foolish for spending a $100 on a cake 8-10 inches and hope to spare others from making a similar mistake at Divine Bakery. A very weird vibe with lots of resale. Found my way to the baked goods. I picked out 2 peanut butter cookies, 2 chocolate chunk cookies, 2 scones and a package of English muffins( not made there). I paid $50. I never mind paying for exceptional quality. When I got home I tried the chocolate chip cookie. I never thought we would find a chocolate chip cookie that was inedible but we did. It definitely did not taste fresh. It was so hard and dry that I could barely cut it with a carving knife. The peanut butter cookie was better but had a dried gelatin like topping that was supposed to be jam. The English Muffins made by Noble were awesome. Im sure there might be some excellent baked goods in there somewhere but I won't be going back to sort through it all. I would recommend not selling inferior quality goods and present only the best fish quality items. read more

I posted a review about this place about 10 months ago when it was under new ownership and I didn't recommend it. However I am very pleased to say I was notified that the original owner is back and so I drove back out to Cave creek to give it another shot... man I am SO GLAD i did! The smell when you first walk in was just divine and there was sooo many choices of breads and artisanal noodles it was great! All the baked good looked absolutely wonderful. I bought several items and look forward to eating them. I did eat a cinnamon twist, a chocolate chip cookies, and shared a Swiss chocolate bar and omg it was soooo good! I highly recommend if you're in the cave creek area, stop by this place! Or if you're in the mood for a little day trip out of the city go check it out. It's wonderful! read more

Unfortunately had a very bad experience .. was excited to try a local business but was greeted by a very unwelcoming owner who treated us as if we were intruding . The bakery was empty but yet the owner was not very friendly or very responsive to questions about the selection of coffee or pastries.. and the coffee we did order was very watery and the pastries were not very fresh . Best sour dough I've ever had in my life! Omg! I'm in sourdough heaven! Definitely a positive!

This is a tough one. We've had both bad and good experiences here, so I'm not sure how to lean. We're grateful to have a bakery in the area, especially one with gluten free options, but we generally feel like we aren't wanted when we go in with our children (who are very well behaved). The customer service is kind some days and really crunchy other days (we all have bad days). The price can be a bit steep too, and fluctuates (ie, one day I got a muffin and a cookie and paid $10, the next week the same thing was $15 and some change. Make that make sense? ‍). All in all, grateful they are in town and hope they stay open, but definitely some draw backs read more

I was surprised how big this bakery was. They had lots of breads, desserts, snacks and even kettle popped popcorn. I wanted to try one of everything but settled on few desserts. Everything is so delicious and satisfying. They don't use any preservatives in their breads so it needs to be refrigerated. We went to this bakery with our grandsons, from viewing the website we wanted to get certain things. When we got there, it was windy and she shut the door as we were walking in, should have held the door open for us . She told my grandson don't touch the glass on the door. Then we asked about boba tea which was on the website and she said " Well there's a lot of stuff on the website .She was a very rude woman. Needless to say we left!! Waking up on a lazy desert morning, the best thing in the world is reading your book outside with a coffee and a pastry. In a desperate hunt for a local bakery while staying with family in Cave Creek, I came across this local haunt: It's A Divine Bakery. After grabbing a coffee from Starbucks, I drove down to It's A Divine in search of a good muffin, or perhaps a scone. I found neither, and got much more than I bargained for at this peculiar establishment. I walked in, accompanied by my brother and sister, and we were met with a strange glance from the person working behind the counter. She looked at us as if we had interrupted her, as if we weren't coming in during open hours. After a 30 second long staring match between us and the woman, she abruptly croaked, "Do you need coffee" (the question mark is absent, because she said it more like a statement than a question). 2/3 of us were, shamefully, gripping perspiring iced coffees from Starbucks. I took one for the team and faced this strange woman, replying, "No. I think we just want to get something to eat." In response, she offered an odd look, waiting a few seconds before responded. When she mustered up the strength to speak, she let out a sort of bark. "How many items are you getting," again, phrased like a statement and not a question. I replied, "Well, I'm not quite sure because I haven't looked at the case yet." For what it's worth, I was nowhere near the case yet, and was still lumbering over there in a half-asleep haze. She gave a look of disapproval. "Well, I need to know so that I can figure out which box to put the pastries in." As a sort of bakery connoisseur, I have never been met with such outright contempt and impatience when at a bakery. Even the harsh, rough-around-the-edges bakeries on the East Coast are willing to give you a few moments to make your decision. It's worth noting that we were the only ones inside of It's A Divine bakery this morning, aside from the motley crew that made up the staff. The woman we were speaking with was older, tired-looking. Another woman had a sweet face with an egregious amount of eyeliner ringed around her eyes. Another was about 21 it seemed, wordless, taking in the strange surroundings like we were. It's A Divine bakery is a bit of an eyesore. It's difficult to take in the absolute pastry carnage occurring in there: bread falling off tables, pastries jammed into a box, cakes withering away in a glass case. Needless to say, we were having a hard time figuring out what we wanted to order, and needed more than the 20 seconds of allotted time that the woman seemed to be giving us. Desperately, anxiously, I ordered three pastries: a chocolate braid, an almond croissant, and a blueberry danish. It became almost imperative that I leave the establishment as soon as possible. When we got to the checkout counter, my jaw almost dropped. For three pastries, these women were charging $17. I kept waiting for her to say that she had made a mistake, she had overcharged us. She never did. She just sat there, her eyeliner looking at me like a second pair of eyes, waiting for me to hand over my card. Nervous that if I didn't they would chop me up into bits and bake me into bread, I handed the card over and nervously walked out. When I was already out the door, I heard the woman let out a sort of squawking sound: "Goodbye," I believe she said. When we got home, we took the pastries out of the bag that they had been haphazardly placed inside. First, we tried the almond croissant. The outside edge of the croissant was flavorless, dry. The inside, however, had an alarmingly sour, rancid taste. I threw it out immediately. The chocolate braid had the same dry, sour taste. The only pastry that was somewhat edible was the blueberry danish, only because it tasted like your typical garden-variety danish that one would get as an on-the-go snack at Costco. All this to say, none of these pastries tasted fresh. All in all, I would not recommend It's A Divine bakery. Bashas' grocery store up the street has excellent donuts and other pastries, much better than anything sold at this strange, cold, overpriced bakery. read more

Disappointed that 5 of the 6 items we tried tasted (at least) a couple of days old, dry, and not nearly enough flavor. At a high price point of over $40, expectations are higher than for similar store-bought items at a third of the cost. We'll continue to search for a very good bakery. read more

This was one of the few times I went somewhere without reading the reviews and boy do I regret it. The owner was discretely rude from the beginning, but it got worse and worse the longer we were in there. I asked for 2 cinnamon sticks and she put 3 in the bag (which we did not see) and of course charged me for 3. The apple turnover WAS great, but that's the only nice thing I have to say. The prices are laughable and the quality of the cinnamon sticks and almond pastry was just garbage. She couldn't answer a single question with a straight answer, every response was snippy and uncalled for, even the answers to the questions no one asked. For example... we asked do you guys have any donuts? She says this is a German bakery I don't deep fry anything (and proceeds to rant about being against deep frying pastries)... um ok, do you have donuts or not? Upon reading other reviews and seeing the owners response it's clear that she's blatantly rude and disrespectful and just doesn't care. Steer clear of this place at all costs. read more
