4 Piece Nigiri & Hosomaki & Inari Combo
    Alice H.

I ordered takeout through DoorDash and was really impressed! I got 4 pieces of nigiri, Hosomaki, and Inari Combo. It came with 2 pieces of Sake nigiri, 2 pieces of Albacore Nigiri, 8 pieces of sake hosomaki roll, and 1 piece of Spicy Tuna stuffed inari pouch! The fish was fresh, the portion was decent, and the flavors were spot on. The price was also reasonable. They are located in a food hall, the first spot on the right when you enter the building. Highly recommended!

Itani Sushi was my destination for an early lunch on Monday, known for their convenient, grab 'n go combos that seem to be good quality and sold at a reasonable price point. it's the first establishment in your line of vision when you step into this small food hall and we zeroed in on the display case immediately. There were already plenty of boxes set out, but I opted for a classic nigiri combo with maki for $20! If you walk down a little bit, there's some bar seating where you can eat your meals from any of the establishments in the hall. There's quite a few spots for the amount of space in there, and it was basically empty when we went at noon. Itani also provides chopsticks and soy sauce so you can enjoy it if you leave with your meal. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how decent it was. It could have tasted fresher had we just ordered sat at the sushi bar and ordered the combo rather than getting the boxed meal, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. $20 is a pretty reasonable price compared to other places now, and for this quality + convenience, I couldn't argue with the price. Definitely a revisit!

Updating to 1* until this issue is addressed. I returned for a casual lunch at the counter, and I was served by a different chef from my last experience. Throughout the meal, I witnessed a serious health and safety concern. The chef wore the same gloves to perform multiple tasks outside of food prep: handling menus that were touched by many customers and staff, moving cardboard boxes, absentmindedly running his hand across different surfaces as he walked around the kitchen, and who knows what else I didn't see. It grossed me out completely and really ruined my dining experience not knowing whether I was going to have to live on the toilet for the rest of the week.

I don't do sushi bars. This is my first here in the states. It's a no frill place where you order using an erasable marker. The presentation for a sushi bar is amazing. The chef is right in front of you and he was nice enough to slice the hamachi a little thinner so we can share the appetizer among 3 of us. My chirasi bowl was served a little different. You get a bowl of perfectly cooked rice. Then comes a tray of beautifully cut fish. Everything is fresh here. My friend beside me ordered a bunch of nigiri. He says it's a good deal as everything is a la carte that he ordered. He got everything he wanted and especially loved the Iwana and Uni.

I arrived about 10 minutes before closing. Surprisingly, that actually turned out to be a bonus. The friendly young woman behind the counter let me know that they were having a last hour special today where everything was 50% off in the to-go case! It all looked good at their regular prices. Suddenly it looked even better! I got two of the 5 pc Nigiri & Maki Roll combos ($10 each after discount), and then two rolls ($5 and $7.50 after discount). I was only gonna get one roll but at half price I could not resist. Even though what was there had to have been there for a while, being end of the day, it still tasted fresh, and absolutely appetizing. Unfortunately, they don't have the 50% last hour deal every day. Maybe that's fortunate for me because I'd be tempted to come here every day. Itani's part of a higher-end food court, and it's a takeout spot, so there isn't any real seating. But with such a great deal, I'm happy to have absconded with the steal and enjoyed it all at home. Being Berkeley, parking is only on the street and tough. However long it takes to find a spot, it'll be worth it. Especially if they got the last hour deal going...

I was very impressed by this little spot! Everyone was very kind and had great service. My boyfriend ordered the 3 course meal and I the Unagi Donburi. It was definitely my favorite my boyfriend also favored the Nigiri. We were not a fan of the hand roll but others should try it for themselves! I would come back.

I placed a reservation the night before but it honestly wasn't necessary. It was a cute little bar area which was nice. I ordered salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, albacore nigiri, toro nigiri, agadashi tofu, spicy salmon roll, and the crispy Alaskan roll. All the nigiri were perfectly sweet with the sushi rice and the fish was so soft and just melted in my mouth. The salmon roll was filled to the brim with spicy salmon and there wasn't a heavy sriracha flavor which I liked. The crispy alaskan roll was so good but I wish the salmon wasn't cooked. The agadashi tofu was nice and warm and actually had pieces of fried avocado in it which was so good. I'd definitely come back again!

Since Kirala went out of business at this location, I have been wondering what would take its place. I was super happy to see another sushi place come in. Even happier to see it was staffed by some of my favorite sushi chefs who used to work at Mujiri. The sushi here is affordable, super fresh, with great quality fish, perfect rice and elevated in the way they package it. It's a food court, but the ambience is nice and there are plenty of tables both indoors and outdoors for you to sit down and eat. I really like to sit outside as they have a really beautiful garden. I tried the potato salad, the avocado roll, the Negihama Roll and the California roll. The potato salad was nice, tasty, and comforting. The avocado roll was delicious with perfect avocado. The California roll was excellent and they use real crab, which was a nice treat. And the Negihama roll was super good and fresh and tasty. I'll definitely be going back and I'm looking forward to trying new things. My favorites were definitely the California roll and the avocado roll but everything was good.

Another great sushi takeout spot. They have very limited indoor seating, but there are tables outside as well. No need to find a local park or go straight home. They have a lot of options at various price points. I highly recommend their nigiri set. They do have some repeating pieces but hey.. this is takeout sushi lol. No issues with the staff. Everything was grab and go. Not a lot of interaction needed.

Itani Sushi takes over Kirala 2's space in Epicurious Garden in the Gourmet Ghetto. Inside & outside seating 2 tables each baked by the sun. Self service grab n go of premade sushi in display case or can order at cashier station. Menus next to display case & at cashier station. Offerings: starters & salads, nigiri, donburi rice bowls, maki rolls, sashimi & sushi sets, drinks. Nigiri & maki rolls combos As i was perusing display case, cashier asks if i needed help. I asked is there omakase? Cashier suggested the 14 piece nigiri which was made to order. Ready in 5ish minutes. Bites: 14 piece nigiri & maki rolls (49) -decided to take home as seating was sun lit. Hr. Journey didn't affect freshness. -portions were smaller than Mujiri or Ebiko. Quality similar. Smaller nigiri options here. -fish served at peak quality: kanpachi (amberjack), umi masu(trout), tai (sea bream), scallop, toro (tuna), ika (squid), ebi (shrimpj, shiro maguro (albacore), hamachi, maguro (tuna), sake(salmon) Subtle sweetness of fish + grated wasabi (not powdered or tube type) signs of top quality eats. Also Maki rolls of tuna & shiro maguro or sake. 4.5 stars would repeat if parking available @4.00/hr.

This is for oakland pop up store. The sushi is fresh and it taste great. The manager working there is super friendly and will answer any questions you have. If you want to make special order, let him know. I just made a lunch order for work and it was so good! California roll is made with real crab. So much better than imitation crab from other stores. The qualityis there and you can taste it. The price is also very affordable considering sushi in generally on the expensive side. Will be back again and again! :)

Itani sushi, very high quality fish! Stopped by for a quick lunch. Lots of bar seating available. With quick and fast service. I ordered the sashimi platter which came with and assortment of salon and tuna. And a pipping hot miso soup. Will be back to try the rest of the menu. If you're in Berkeley definitely stop by this gem

Very mid. The Futomaki roll was very skimpy. Other roll about Safeway quality. Not worth the price, parking issues, lack of ample seating.

We were given the option of sitting at a table or at the bar, but we chose to sit at a table. I ordered the Deluxe Spicy Tori Paitan which is their chicken option. They also serve each ramen base with tonkotsu/pork as well. You can choose between having Hakata (thin, straight) or Sapporo (medium thick, wavy) noodles. I chose to get the Sapporo noodles. The spice level was good, however besides the name, there was no other spice indicator for this menu item. The only item that had spice indicators was their spiciest option which had 3 flame symbols next to it. The spice was good and didn't mask the flavor of the ramen. The waitress came around a lot to refill water as needed. The restaurant is small, but the food is really good. I'd love to try their tonkotsu options next time. Parking is a bit difficult to get, especially in downtown Berkeley. You may have to find street parking a block or two down depending on the time you come to eat.

We entered a few minutes before peak dinner times, so there were seats to choose and sit from. By the time we left, mostly all the seats were filled up, so I would suggest coming in early. I liked the naming for each of the ramen dishes, some I recognized the names from Hawai'i. For this round, we ordered 3 different types of ramen: the Kuni, Broke da Mouth, and the Miso Hungry. These orders also came around the same time. A notable elements I liked about the ramen was that the noodles were chewy and springy, and the broth was smooth and easy to drink. I also didn't have the urge to drink lots of water either, so the seasoning was perfect. The other element was that I got to enjoy the ramen's broth and noodles as the stars of the dish, and the proteins, like the pork were supporting roles. For me, what I enjoy ramen are the broth and noodles, so I'm happy that these are prominent in the dish, rather than me having other chow down a thick slab of pork. This restaurant hit the right marks for what a delicious ramen is for me, so I'll come back, and maybe try their other broths.
