Borough Market is a true London gem. Sometimes derided by locals as a tourist trap, it is nonetheless a haven for foodies like myself
With so many wonderful stalls to peruse, this stall holds the distinction of the stall which I purchase from the most often. If you're a regular there and you don't remember seeing a sign saying Italainate, it's because there isn't one! People know it as the Parma Ham and Mozzarella Stall. Indeed , it is listed as such on the Borough Market website
As its nickname suggest, they specialise in just 2 products but the mozzarella and Parma ham are the very bst quality, imported directly from Italy. The stallholder, Philip Crouch sources directly from the producer, Saint Ilario
The mozzarella is an unpasteurised buffalo mozzarella from Campagnia - they come in 100g and 250g sizes as well as in mini balls. They also do a delicious burrata, which has cream added into the cheese-making process to make the cheese even more creamy
The Parma ham has an amazing depth of flavour - I actually prefer it to the more revered Iberico ham. This is moister and trades some saltiness for flavour. You can either buy the ham in sealed packs which is better if you want to keep it. However, I prefer to to get the freshly sliced ham which is better if you will consume it within a few days - doesn't usually last that long in my house
So, when you're in Borough Market, swing round to their stall in the Green Market and try a sample. You'll be hooked! read more
