They make you feel like Family!! I love this place!! Staff know who you are, friendly and great dental care!

My son, who is in his early 20s and can barely spell insurance, scheduled a long-overdue exam and a cleaning at Italian Smiles and Family Cosmetic Dentistry. When he arrived, he was told, first, that he was scheduled for an exam only. After the exam, he was then told that he needed a "Level 2" cleaning, which required a separate visit, was charged as a periodontic visit (and therefore not covered under his preventive benefits), and would have to have that done at a separate time. Miraculously, they had an open slot that very afternoon. He was told that he was going to be charged for several "required medicines" that were not covered by his (very rich Ameritas plan). They were going to fleece him for over $350, and set him up on a payment plan. Fortunately, he had the good sense to call me before proceeding. As an employee benefit consultant, I work with dental insurance for a living. I spoke to their billing person who said they could not modify it from the hygienist's recommendation. I asked if the hygienist was paid a commission, which they denied. Regardless, it was inappropriate and arguably unethical. My son left without the cleaning and will find a patient-first practice instead of a payment-first practice. Unfortunately, these situations are becoming more common, and Italian Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry appears to be part of the problem. read more

They want to perform periodontal deep cleanings on everyone even when it isn't necessary. Then if you question their method of treatment Dr. Leonard will yell and berate you in the chair because you asked questions. I was also asked if I was planning on having children, this is so inappropriate to ask because if I had said yes, it would've been a reason for them to pressure and guilt me into having unnecessary procedures done. This was the most traumatic experience I've had as a medical professional and I advise everyone to steer clear of this gimmick of a dental practice. You don't need a massage chair, monthly raffles, or complementary jars of spaghetti sauce to be a great dental practice you just have to have integrity and treat patients with respect. I did not feel safe with Dr. Leonard poking around in my mouth, I'm so glad I went back to my old dentist. read more

Where do I start...this was hands down the best dentist experience I've ever encountered. I had to bring my little guy in for dental work and he enjoyed it from beginning to end. Typically for a 5year old something like the dentist is scary but he connected and vibed with both the assistant Tamera(spell check...Hopefully I'm spelling your name correctly lol) and Dr. LaVant. Myself and my oldest son will be back in a couple of weeks for ourselves and we are now apart of the family! Had my first visit here in Jul 2023 for a cleaning & exam - Vanessa is the best RDH I've ever encountered! She was professional, funny, thorough, and explained eveything she was doing and that was going on, without being boring or superfluous. The best and most pleasant experience in all of my head-hole years! I returned Aug 2023 for 8 resin composite replacements and fills successfully completed by Dr. LaVant. He, too, was professional, detailed, and gregarious. The entire team here @ Italian Smiles is awesome w/ great spirited and friendly attitudes. Clearly no one hates being there or doing their job as often seen at other dental practices, especially those owned/run by private equity groups. Time to sign up the rest of the family. read more

Would leave zero stars if I could. Went in after not going to the dentist for quite a while and dr lavant told me I had 14 cavities, I was not too surprised and we decided to split the fillings up into two appointments. I was never shown the xrays however. I got the first half filled and then decided to go to another dentist that was closer to me. The second dentist told me that I never had 14 cavities and that I didn't even have 7 cavities left in my mouth. They over charged me for the services they did and those services did not need to be done in the first place. Will never go back read more

I am extremely satisfied with Dr. LaVant. He has great bedside manner, is very knowledgeable and gentle, while the ladies in the front are pleasant and so kind. I would definitely recommend this practice. I would also recommend the specialist who did my root canal. Unfortunately the Dr.'s name is escaping me now, but I believe he was a classmate of Dr. LaVant. I've had quite a few root canals and I'm always very swollen and sore for days after. Thankfully this time I had no swelling and was able to take over the counter Tylenol. I was pleasantly surprised and extremely thankful. read more

The staff is always friendly and appointments are seamless as the practice sends you automated reminders. Techs are nice, Dr is funny, and the receptionists are true professionals. Husband has had many bad dental experiences and came to Italian Smiles before Dr. Lavant came to the practice. Dr. Lavant has been patient and took great care of my husband.he's had many teeth pulled and was best experience he has had with that. They have been great getting him in and taking care of him. I was extremely exited to come to this dental office. The office is extremely nice and so was everyone in the front office and the dentist. I had my cleaning done and then was scheduled back in November for some fillings and that's when my problem started. I was in the middle of getting my fillings when I was told there was more work that needed to be done so I did give the ok to proceed (I don't know why the X-ray didn't show this work) my teeth started hurting as the work was being done and I left with lots of pain and I feel like most of my mouth was drilled as well as the price went up but I wasn't told how much it would go up. I called in and made another visits where I was told my teeth would calm down over a few months. My teeth are still in pain I have a part in my mouth that was never hurting before yet after it was worked on I can't eat on that side of my mouth and my teeth are more sensitive then they have ever been in my life. I feel I paid a lot of money for a mouth full of pain, sensitivity and aches. It's July and unfortunately my pain is still there. I am very disappointed because I never had more then a few cavities and when I had work done in the past and it was fast, easy and not as expensive. I don't mind paying for work I need but this experience has left me upset and in pain but most importantly I wonder if I needed all these teeth drilled in. I feel like it's July my mouth should not be hurting at all. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. LaVant and his team last week, and my experience was amazing. From speaking with Lizette at the front desk, to chatting with my hygienist Rachel, and Dr. LaVant, it felt like I'd known them all forever! Worst office in the world. A year ago the doctor asked to have an xray done and after a month of not hearing anything about results I called the office. Attitudes are something that is common here. I was in last week for a cleaning, after 45 minutes of the hygienist and dentist going back and forth, I walked out. No one bothered to call or attempt to make the situation better. Asked to have x rays transferred to another doctor's office. Was told the original person forgot to send them, and the manager said there was too much finger pointing. Wow! I just got home from the most bizarre dental appointment at Italian Smiles. I had a different hygienist named Vanessa. She didn't make any small talk. She kept asking me the same questions over and over and she did the whole cleaning on hyper speed. At the end she was flossing my teeth so fast it hurt like crazy. I do have inflamed gums. I told her it hurt and she was flossing to fast. She said, no I wasn't. Real snotty like. I said more sternly, yes you were. She said, I sorry if you think I was going to fast.... but I wasn't. When Dr Lavont came in I told him she was rude. He said, I've never had a complaint about her before. Way to deflect dr!! Well you do now!!! read more

I had neglected regular dental care for quite a while. Dr. Lavant and his team have been friendly and accommodating to help me get back on track. The office is very nice and they appear to be very up to speed on technology. The Doctor took time with me on two different occasions to discuss my "plan" to correct a couple of issues. Unbelievably expensive!! Dental hygeinest and dentist together told me I needed a "special" deep cleaning that was going to cost me over $800.00. I found the dentist to be condescending. He was doing a cursory exam of my teeth, pulled out a little something from between my teeth with his pick, held it up in front of me to see and said, " I don't even know what this is!" Well, Mr. Professional Dentist, I'm pretty sure it's a piece of food since I quit eating plastic bags and wood chips!!!! I got out of there as fast as I could!!! My first visit to Italian Smiles was a couple weeks ago. The dentist I've been going to since 2003 just partnered with this practice. The scheduling was effortless and I was greeted by a smile when I entered the office. I went for my biannual cleaning and the dental hygienist was personable and extremely thorough. She also gave me tips for better brushing and dental care. Paying on the way out was fast and effortless and the woman who assisted me was extremely pleasant. After going to the same dental office for 15 years, I was a little apprehensive about traveling a bit farther west to a different office and expanded staff, but they made me feel very welcome. read more

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Leonard for my biannual dental cleaning. I came to the appointment with the intention of just getting a cleaning, but after getting x-ray pictures back, it was brought to my attention that part of my cavity filling from a year and some time ago had came out partially. Dr. Leonard made time for me to get that filling removed and restored in the same day! She was professional, caring, and prompt. Front staff were very welcoming from when I first walked in and I was given a tour of the whole office. The hygienist who took care of me is who made this a truly memorable experience for me. I can tell she genuinely loves what she does and is very passionate about every patient she receives. She gave me many tips on how to take care of my teeth and she pays incredible attention to detail. I accidentally dropped my nose jewelry on the ground since I had to remove it for x-rays and she spent a good amount of time looking with me it was so sweet! She even offered to sweep the floor at the end. (Thankfully I found it!) Such an amazing office 10/10, they make you feel like you've been coming there for years. read more

Was very displeased with the service provided I had a tooth that had a root canal some time ago and I knew I needed to get It covered to protect it , so I went in paid ALot of money & time they built me a tooth over that particular tooth At the time I thought it was looking pretty nice . All of the sudden 1 day later I was in so much pain I couldn't take it it was horrible I called them to let them know that I was having pain issues . They informed me that it SHOULD have been cleaned out more prior to the procedure that they did and due to the fact that wasn't the case sorry we are just going to have to PULL your tooth out now !!!!! I was devastated . They should have told me that from the beginning before taking the money from me it was a large sum for me approximately 900.00 From me in addition they wanted more money for the removal of my tooth but offered to give me a credit but I still had to pay put of pocket for their mistake in addition I had an infection from the laser used on my gum line . I will not ever return nor recommend this dentist . I left crying and very uncomfortable with the way the whole situation was handled . I still owe money and I avoid going into the facility at all costs due to the fact that I would rather just not deal with that business again . In addition prior to this experience I had recommended this Dr Lavant to a very good friend of mine . He too had some similar very unfortunate experiences as well . I had no idea that this was going to be the outcome , I would not have ever of referred anyone . My friend now is going and having repair done on his damage that was done and was very disappointed in the services provided . He too spent a great deal of money . read more

I cannot recommend this dental practice to anyone. My 21 yr old son went there because our family dentist is semi retired and cutting back on hours. My son has been going to dentist fairly regularly until college and has never had a cavity. He went in for a teeth cleaning and I get a phone call that he has gingivitis so bad that they can't possibly do a regular teeth cleaning but will need to do a Gingival irrigation for a whopping cost of $535!!!! They refused to do a regular teeth cleaning. I finally got an appt with my family dentist who found nothing wrong with his gums and gave him a regular teeth cleaning. Such a scam!!!! read more

My husband was going through some extreme mouth pain and we had to schedule an emergency appointment. I made the appointment early Sunday morning and was able to get seen in two days. We got seen quick with barely any wait time. We've gone back twice and they've even called to check up on my husband. They offer free cold bottled water in the waiting room and gum for those of you who get thirsty often. The receptionists are very nice and quick to respond when scheduling appointments.
