Took time off work for an appointment last week, only to be told the day of that they had to reschedule. Annoying, but shit happens, so i rescheduled for today. I left work early, sat in traffic for over an hour, rushed home to get ready, and arrived one minute before my 4:00 appointment. Checked in and sat down. Around 4:15, dude at the front desk staff did briefly tell me I should be getting called back soon. After that? Nothing. No further updates, no acknowledgment. Around 4:30, I could literally hear dude whispering about someone should go check the back to see what's going on because my appointment was supposed to be at 4:00. The waiting room was empty. I was the only patient there. 4:40 I stood up and walked out I respect dude at the front desk tried once, but overall this office does not respect patients' time. read more

I stopped by today to get 3 fillings done and the ladies at the front desk were super nice and assisted me quickly. The office was clean and well organized. I did not have to wait long before being called to go back my appointment was at 11 AM and I got called to go in the back at 11:05 AM then my dental work started at about 11:15-11:20 AM my Doctor was assisting another person in the other room and I was not upset about it, I definitely understood. My doctor was super sweet and personal-able. His name is Isaac Howard, he was quick at doing my fillings which was very much appreciated because hearing the drilling sounds is not my cup of tea but he made it go by quickly and smoothly, great care quality! Had an appointment 11am for cleaning and X-rays. Arrived 20 min before appointment and they said their system was down, as well as the AC in the clinic. They told me cleaning and X-rays may not be able to be completed today but took me back and had the dentist assess for less than 5 minutes. Dentist said he couldn't do a cleaning or complete exam since the systems were down. When I asked them why they didn't just call me and cancel the appointment since system was down, they said it's "an automated system and that's not on us." Unprofessional clinic. They have repeatedly pushed back appointments due to their staff "leaving early" or "the person who made your appointment made a mistake". Gentle Dental Thunderbird has some staff members that are very rude, unprofessional and are liars. Gentle Dental Thunderbird was operated in a professional manner when it was under the care of the former dentist about 2 to 3 years ago. Now, the unprofessional, racist and rude office managers are calling the shots at Gentle Dental Thunderbird and service has declined. I would not recommend ANY Gentle Dental to anyone, because I have been to several of their locations and every one of their dentist said something different. I felt as if their focus was on lying to make extra money. I am very disappointed in how much they've changed for the worse. After going to GD Peoria for the last 10 years I was informed they closed down and my appt was moved to this Thunderbird location. After my first & last visit there, let's just cut to the chase & let me save you a trip. For starters I walked the entire building & didn't see a single sign. When I called I felt like they could have easily said the entrance is on the West side of the building but just insisted I walk around. Okay thanks. Receptionist lacked any customer service, start of appt & definitely at the end. The hygienist made it super awkward because he couldn't pronounce my name, just say "hello I'm so and so I apologize but how do you pronounce your name?" I didn't even get his name or any friendliness whatsoever. He ended up walking out shortly after, I had no idea what was going on another girl came in & then told me I'd be getting a cleaning by the dentist "cool". Dentist came in actually introduced himself Hi I'm Dr Howard? I believe. Out of no where after already putting his hands in my mouth he left (didn't do my cleaning). Another girl came in chatted for a second & then hollered at girl walking down the hall to come do my cleaning. I already dread the dentist but I know a cleaning doesn't happen in ten minutes, then the fluoride slapped on. At the moment I didn't even care I just wanted to leave, I never scheduled my next appt (I have never not scheduled my next one at an appt). I've never left a bad review. But not only did the building feel uncomfortable the staff & awkwardness definitely added to my 1 star review. I'm sorry I'm not hard to impress, but you guys take the W for that at least ... this was my experience I can't speak to anyone else's. The last 3-4 times I went, the bathrooms had watered down hand soap.. disgusting & disappointing that this office can't afford to provide its customers with real hand soap. The first time it happened, I didn't think much about it but after the 3rd & 4th time.. there is no excuse. I wonder if the staff has access to real soap. They must overbook or be short handed, the wait times are ridiculous!!! Don't come here. The amount of rotating dentist at this office is atrocious, you will have a different dentist or hygienist each time. And the few dentist that stay won't make an effort to correct previous dentist mistakes. There is no warranty for their work. If you have fills and they fall out they won't refill them, instead they will try to up sell you with more unnecessary work. Had the same dentist give me 2 different opinions within a weeks visit " we can't see everything all the time". Was his exact words. The office manager has no customer service or appreciation for loyal customers either. At the end of the day we are customers and are entitled to question or voice our concerns. I'm not surprised by the bad reviews Beware- they say they take your insurance, so you take time off work & drive there, just to be told, "you know your insurance doesn't cover this". I spoke to the office on 3-4 separate occasions. I initially went to the 83rd ave location & they told me they didn't accept my insurance, but this particular location did. So I called this location & they said they accepted my insurance. I had to provide them my insurance card for them to make an appointment. I talked to them again after that & they said, "because of your insurance, we cannot do the X-ray & cleaning @ that appointment time, would you like to re-schedule for a day you can have both?" I said yes, so we rescheduled for a day I could have both services. Tiffany then called me that morning and left me a voicemail saying because of my insurance, they can't do a cleaning that day, but can do an X-ray. So I called back & was told the same thing, so I said that's fine, I'll keep the X-ray appointment & do the cleaning a different day. How many times was the phrase "because of your insurance" said? They knew my insurance! I get there @ Tiffany was at the front desk, where she told me they don't accept my insurance. Obviously I was upset. Why wasn't I told this after the multiple times I spoke to your company?? She said, "well I called you this morning", exactly! Why didn't you tell me then! She said "I didn't check your insurance". There's the problem right there. You're calling to confirm my appointment and give me an update on the change.... But you didn't actually check my insurance?? She not once apologized, took ownership or showed compassion. She was rude, cold & could care less. All she did was make excuses. My insurance is temporary. Had she just sincerely apologized and acknowledge my frustration, I would have paid out of pocket. But her attitude is what made me furious. You are in the customer service industry... literally you get paid to interact with customers.. customers are why you have a job... I called the corporate office to make an official complaint about Tiffany. They told me, "it shows she said she verified it." That was clearly a lie, when she told me the opposite in person. Crap service. Never even made it in. When I called, I got an obvious call center with, of course, someone with a strong accent I could barely converse with. I don't like not actually connecting to the place I'm calling. I told him multiple times to make me an appointment at the Thunderbird location, which he said he could do. I couldn't even make my first appointment before he started to try to upsell me. At least let me get in the door before you start trying to sell me something for christs sake. I got my confirmation for my appt and of course, he made it for the wrong location. Typical moron. I called the thunderbird location and actually got someone on the phone from there, miracle. She helped me out and not only did he make my appt for the wrong location, he spelled my name wrong, got my insurance wrong and got my DOB wrong. I have revived services at the Laveen Location and the Glendale-Thunderbird location, and both locations have been so good to me. They are all friendly, patient, caring towards their clients. They all work really hard with providing the best quality of service and making the clients comfortable in any way possible while also being as quick as possible with the services needed to be provided. Lisa and Tyler are both people friendly for front desk as they are both kind and thorough with explanation and I appreciate that much. The ortho team has been my best friend in my braces process, Dr. Lingenbrink is friendly and answers any and all question and/or concerns and that's important to anyone, at least I would think. Laura, Esperanza, Edwin, Arturo, are the real MVPs for making sure that i'm always feeling comfortable and that I get taken care of. I met Dr. Maule for the first time today and he too did not disappoint with the quality of care that was provided. I revived a cleaning today from a Hygienist that was a temp for the day sadly. She was quick while making sure every so minutes I was good comfortable and if I needed anything. Wish I got her name ): To sum it up, go to Gentle Dental, you WILL feel comfortable, heard, understood, and this is a plus, if you're having a bad day, they will not fail in having you leave with a smile on your face. I have recommended a few of my friends and they're friends friends to Gentle Dental and I have yet to hear a bad experience. Multiple phone calls just to get them to answer the phone and then to be placed on hold for 36 minutes. They have a policy about canceling appts within a certain time frame then your charged so i had to wait. read more

Im sad to say after going to your location for nearly 20 + years my family will be finding another provider. Up until now for the most part we've experienced good customer service. I've even sent flowers to the staff at this location. But for whatever reason, lately this office hasn't been answering their phone during business hours and after multiple attempts of trying to reschedule, I finally left a message. The lady who called me back said because I didn't give a 48 hour notice- not sure when they added that to the policy- I would be charged $50 for not giving a 48 hour notice ?? The girl was snarky when she ended the call saying have a blessed day and you'll be getting a bill in the mail. Again, I've taken all 4 of my children, my spouse and myself to this location for a very long time and to be treated like this is just not right. If the policy was changed or starting to be enforced, I would recommend answer the phone during business hours and educating your patients of this policy. Gentle Dental is a cross between the MVD and what I imagine the welfare office to be like. Waiting is how most of the time is spent at this location. Waiting 45 minutes after the scheduled time of your appointment to get called back. Waiting 30 or more minutes to see the dentist after your cleaning. Make sure to set aside at least 3 hours for a visit to Gentle Dental. It is so obvious that every member of the staff hates their job to the Nth degree. No one is happy or at least cordial, and everyone looks burnt out. I've been getting my teeth cleaned at this location for several years (Thanks DVUSD for the great insurance!), and I have never had a decent experience. The dental hygienists are a motley crew to say the least. I always get stuck with the slim male hygienist (I will not reveal his identity) whose hairy arms tickle my nose when he cleans my teeth. Yeah, that's for real. Just let that image sink in a little bit. I really hate going to the dentist here, but I am stuck with these fine people until I get a new insurance plan. So.Bad. If I could give them negative 5 stars, I would. I will never go back there, nor will I recommend them to anyone I care about. Here are some facts about my experiences there: The front office is fine - a little plain, but fine. The exam rooms, however, are ganky. I have seen broken wire, gauze, and other trash on the floor. It feels old and dirty. The dentists are very unprofessional. For example, my most recent dentist was talking about me with another patient and then sighed impatiently before he came back into see me. The work that is being done by the dentists feels rushed and it isn't the best quality either. My husband ended up going back 5 times to get something redone because it wasn't done properly in the first place. Another experience is that I had a root canal (which I paid $500 for out of pocket) and the dentist did not seal it correctly and now I have to get that tooth pulled. One dentist I had was in a rush. He stabbed the needle into my mouth so hard that my jaw is swollen two weeks after I went. He didn't want to have to wait for the anesthesia to kick in, so he sent me away (numb) and wanted me to make an appointment where they could put me under. What??? I found a new dentist, who is amazing. Do yourself a favor - save time and frustration and stay away from this place. read more

Ok, so I finally decide to take advantage of my insurance. Grrr, great insurance I have, now Im stuck with this place. Waiting wasn't bad, had an appointment for 9 got sat at 910, ok I'll give em one. Then they take my X-rays, not bad. But then to see the dentist I sat around for another 15 mins. Finally she comes in, not friendly at all, starts poking at my mouth and tells me what I need. Later they come back with a bill for $240 when I just came in for a cleaning that my insurance covers. They take out old fillings and put in new ones. I never had a problem with my old ones, no pain or anything, and now I have these scratchy ones in my mouth. Dentist leaves with no follow up, I walk myself to the desk for the next appointment and she hands me a card because I don't know when I'll be available next. Just hands me the card, no "call us to let us know when you're available.." or nothing... Grrr is all I can say about this place... read more

They often cancel my appointments without telling me or change the purpose of my visit. They must have many trainee dentists that come through the practice. The primary dentist is good and the trainees are pretty scary. I agree with the other person that compare the waiting room to the MVD. It is very small and cold waiting room. Made an appt for 07-23-18 @ 5 pm for 1st visit. Confirmed appt via text message sent from dentist offc. Get to the appt 30 min early and I'm not on the schedule. Another customer is next to me and let's me know she's having the same issue. The waiting room, while sizable and clean, is overflowing with people. There isnt enough seating. I waited 30 minutes past my appt time to give them time to get their stuff together. Alas, it did not happen. So, at 530 pm, I left without another word. I will not be returning at all. I'm filing a complaint with Aetna and this experience will make its rounds via word of mouth. I've never gone to an appt where I wasn't on the schedule. read more

It has been 2 1/2 years since we have been here, and I still get texts and emails from them telling me that my son is due for a cleaning. I have replied STOP each time to the text. Replied to the emails that I will not be returning. Answered their phone calls and said we would not be returning so please stop. They still text and email. The reason we stopped going was because our daughter needed to have her first tooth removed. Received novocaine for the first time. She wanted my husband to go back with her. They refused to allow him to stay with her when she was getting the work done. They even refused to to allow him to stay long enough to hold her hand through the shot. He felt it was completely inappropriate to not allow the parent in the room, and demand they (male dentist) be alone with his 10 year old daughter. They stated that was a rule because most kids freak out more when the parent is there. I am sorry, but if the parent is insisting, and the child is scared and wants their daddy... you let that happen. Luckily our daughter came out with nothing to report... but there will always be the "what if" in the back of my mind for the next time. No thank you. Will not put my children in that position. I can now see why this dental office has 1.5 stars. I should have checked prior to making my appointment but should have been alerted when they were able to get me right in. I didn't even make it passed the front desk lady so maybe this place deserves more stars with the quality of the dental staff. I am not a new patient to this location but it has been awhile since I've been there so my insurance changed. I told the front desk lady the name of my insurance and my name and told her I was not provided with a member card with my information. I asked if she could call the provider to obtain my information. She said she could not and I needed to call my employer. I work for a very large company (10,000+ people) so it's not very easy to call and get this sort of information very quickly and I told her that. Call me spoiled but I'm used to doctors calling the insurance provider and easily obtaining this type of information on my behalf, as I was not given this information from my employer. I ended up getting in touch with the insurance company and was informed that the dentists are provided a list of patients every month (as I am on the HMO plan). It would have been simple for them to look on the list for my name. Instead, they have an unhappy patient who will never go back there again, plus me telling my friends/family about my experience (and them telling their friends....), and me writing this Yelp review. I think this front desk person's time would have been better spent looking at a list for my name vs on her personal cell phone (oh wait...I didn't mention that before....yup, she was on her personal phone the entire time I was trying to get my dental info). And one more thing...as I was standing at the front desk this same lady was reprimanded by a hygienist because she didn't communicate something to another patient which resulted in them almost losing another client for a $10K procedure. That discussion should have never have taken place in front of me and was unprofessional but I'm glad it did because is validated my initial feelings about this place. read more

I absolutely love this location of Gentle Dental!! From my amazing dental assistant Maria who was so wonderful despite my very bad gag reflex!! My dentist Dr. Hamblin was so cool and very helpful!! Last but not least my hygienist Angel was incredible!! She did some serious work to get my teeth stain free and I left there with absolutely no pain!! Truly incredible staff in the front and back!! I keep kicking myself for not checking the reviews before making an appointment. Their practice manager, Sandra Leon-Tarango, does not know how to do her job properly. She bills incorrectly and then blames you and your insurance. When you explain what should have been done, she just blames you for signing their 1000 word agreement.
