My wife, eight-year-old daughter, and I went on a Saturday morning in July. Here's our experience. 1) Food: The owner Allen makes fresh Argentinian empanadas in 12 flavors, including a vegan option and sweet one. The savory empanadas range from classic to more American inspired like the Cheeseburger Empanada. We ordered the Carne Empanada and Spicy BBQ Pork Empanada. Both were excellent- full of flavor, fresh, and so good. We ended up ordering an extra Carne one because our daughter loved it too. They also sell smoothies and acai bowls. We all enjoyed the Acai Nutella Bowl with raspberries, bananas, and more. (Ask for extra spoons to share.) 2) Drinks: They sell coffee drinks like lattes and cafe con leche and Coca-Cola products. Three kinds of beers are on the menu too. 3) Service: Allen runs the entire shop. He's kind and passionate about the business he's building for his family. Food comes out quickly. 4) Space: Inside a tiny space within a building with local shops and murals, The Gringo comes with a tiny window where you order. A few picnic tables are nearby with umbrellas for shade. So far, The Gringo is the best food experience we've had in Delray Beach!

I'm rounding my rating up to four stars because this place is a favorite for my grandparents and…read moreremains an excellent value. Every meal starts with basic bread rolls and butter, which I don't personally eat, and each entree includes a small starter salad. On this visit, I ordered the classic snapper broiled and substituted potatoes for the rice. As expected, the portion was quite generous. I actually preferred this broiled preparation over the grilled version I had previously; it seemed to use less oil but was perfectly seasoned. The potatoes were flavorful and well-cooked, and while the sautéed vegetables were fairly basic, they rounded out the plate well. My snapper came with an island sauce on the side, but the fish was flavorful enough on its own that I skipped it to keep the meal a bit healthier. I also sampled my grandpa's order, the Snapper Florentine special. It was very good, featuring a bright lemony sauce and a rich spinach-and-cheese stuffing. While the stuffing meant there was slightly less fish than the standard entree, the portion was still substantial. That being said, I have hesitations regarding the quality of the fish and oils used here. Even though it's a "light" meal, my stomach occasionally feels a little off afterward, so it may not quite meet the highest quality standards. I personally wouldn't return without my grandparents asking me to go, but, it's still a reliable and filling meal. I'll likely try either the roasted half chicken next time or stick with the broiled snapper, which I prefer out of everything I've tried so far.

Def need to try. Entrees: Ropa vieja (pulled beef) rice and beans and maduros (sweet plantains) / Vaca Frita (pan fried pulled beef) Yes you need to try it, this came with Rice and beans. You come to a cuban restaurant this is what you eat, staple dishes, there other things on the menu but if you want an authentic cuban meal this is the way to go. I noticed other people before we got there ordered other plates and their food took a bit longer. Just a tip go with the staple dishes ;) Why the four stars then? Well the ambiance!! Atmosphere was a bit boring and servers were a bit shy. If you been to Miami you know these restaurants are loud and fun. Maybe get maybe some live music or train better the servers, Just my opinion but the service and food was great! Thanks def coming again.

5 Star update 5 years later: Get their espresso martini ASAP!…read more I've been coming to this Padrino's for a few years now and dhad to update my review after I recently ordered espresso martinis and saw how they craft and serve them now out of a cafetera (aka moka pot) into a glass coffee cup. It's so unique in the presentation and made ordering a round for the table so fun and interactive! I know it takes them more time to do it this way (rather than serve at the bar and bring to the table in standard martini glasses), but the showmanship really adds to the experience. Plus- the espresso is awesome so the drink is perfectly balanced! Besides that, if it's a nice day I recommend getting a table outside. Don't be afraid to ask them to turn the music down a bit as it can be quite loud on the outside speakers and they are super kind about it. Finally, around the holidays you can order coquito and special holiday dishes for pickup and they set up a table outside to make it super easy to grab and go. Previous review: 5 Stars for a beautiful renovation and YUMMY Cuban food that works in-restaurant and for takeout! (Plus, the first Padrino's was opened in the 70s and though they have several locations not, the biz still owned by the family!) I was in town and made a group takeout order. As we arrived to pick up the food, I was blown away by the decor! A gentleman that I assume is the manager came up to us as I was snapping some pics and told me they'd just recently renovated the entire interior. The bar looked great and it was super bright and inviting. As for the food, everyone was very pleased! I'd recommend the picadillo empanadas (pastry stuffed with seasoned ground beef. Served with our fresh guava chutney), the mariquitas (crispy plantain chips served with garlic sauce) and the grilled shrimp salad (greens tossed with caramelized onions and red wine vinaigrette topped with grilled shrimp). I've actually been dreaming about those grilled shrimp. They were savory and worked so well with the caramelized onions. I didn't even end up using the red wine vinaigrette because it was flavorful enough on its own. Overall, a great experience!

I usually like to give these types of places the benefit of the doubt and try them anyways, and it just left us regretting visiting.
