I had a very odd experience at this salon. I called what I thought was Mitchell's. iStyle apparently purchased the old Mitchell's phone number. I made an appointment with what I thought was Mitchell's. I told the stylist that I wanted a cut and highlights. The stylist called the day before my appointment to change the time. When I got the mall, I realized Mitchell's had closed, so I went to the upper floor to find iStyle. When I arrived I realized it was a much smaller salon. No one was at the salon to greet me. Another customer was sitting waiting for a hair cut and said she had been there for 15 minutes and no one had yet shown up.
About 10 minutes later, a stylist showed up. He told the other customer to come back in 15 minutes and he'd squeeze her in. The stylist wreaked of cigarettes. I showed him a picture of what I wanted in a cut and color. I mentioned that I was sensitive to smoke. He washed his hands and then began working on my hair. He was upset that I mentioned that I wanted a shorter hair cut because he had only planned on highlights. He seemed annoyed that he then had to shampoo my hair. He cut my hair and then started on the foils for the highlights. The other customer came back. She had to sit for another 30 minutes while he finished my foils. I then moved to another chair so that he could cut the other customer's hair.
While he was tending to the other customer, he mentioned that the credit card machine was broken and he'd only take cash and asked if that would be a problem. I'm sitting mid-highlights and now I find out he only takes cash. This is bad business. I didn't have cash on me. It was also a holiday and the bank was not opened nor had my paycheck been deposited yet. I had planned on placing on a credit card. I didn't have a checkbook on me. If he had told me in advance, I could've made other plans to have cash or a checkbook.
Also, the pricing changed while I was sitting there. The sign in the salon says that a cut is $49 and highlights are $89. This should be $138, but he told me I needed to get $195 to bring back to him.
The stylist took his time with the other customer, so my highlights sat "baking" too long. I wanted caramel colored highlights, but they ended up being a bright blonde.
The chairs were very uncomfortable. The salon phone constantly rang and the stylist kept excusing himself to answer it.
Fast forward to checkout. I went to the mall's ATM machine and got out what I could, which was only $100. He told me that he'd call or text once the credit card machine was working. More than a week later, I received a phone call from an unknown number. I was at work, so I didn't answer it. The following day, I received a text indicating that the credit card machine was back up and running. He also posted a picture of a receipt from an ATM showing a balance of $3000. He wrote a message on the receipt saying that I was a monster and setting a bad example for my child saying that I could've paid more but chose not to and that I was un-American. This was not my receipt from the ATM machine, but he apparently thought that it was.
He then sent me another text message saying that I have poor character and that essentially I'm a racist. This couldn't be the furthest from the truth! When I texted back and told him I had planned on coming back to the mall over the weekend to pay him, he told me he didn't want my money and I should never come back.
My hair looked nice, but definitely not worth "emotional abuse" via text message. read more
