I've been coming here for a while, but the lack of professionalism and the attitude surrounding tipping have become too much to ignore. The salon is consistently chaotic. Appointments rarely start on time, technicians frequently switch in the middle of services, and it's common to wait 15+ minutes for someone to come back and finish your nails while they answer phones, check out customers, or start working on someone else. Instead of managing their schedule, they continue taking more clients until every chair is full, creating a loud, rushed environment. The quality of the nails is also inconsistent. Some visits are great, while others feel rushed and uneven. Most of the time you end up with at least one bleeding cuticle. Prepare for payment to be a nightmare, they will change the prices randomly and also charge you more for using a credit card. But what bothers me most is the tipping culture. At checkout, they will break down your bill so they can show you how much should be tipped to each person who helped you, and if you leave anything less than what they seem to expect, you're often met with dirty looks and no thank you. I have always tipped 10% for my nails my whole life unless I was getting something extravagant or the service was exceptional then I give a bit more and I feel like that's more than fair. But regardless, tips should be appreciated, not demanded and especially when the service experience is far from exceptional. read more

I was long overdue for a manicure and I ran around the area near the 72 street train station to find a nail salon that wasn't jam packed. By the time I got to Issa Nails I had already passed about five and I was tired of running around so I went in and asked how long it would take to have someone do a manicure and was happy to be told I would only have a 10 minute wait. This turned out to be true and I settled in for the manicure. Issa nails looks like a salon that has been renovated some time in the last 5-7 years so the interior is clean and has some interesting design choices (such as orange lights on one wall in between wood tiles, which I found interesting). The salon is not very wide, but it is long with a waiting area in the front, then manicure stations on the right and pedicure stations on the left. Beyond that are massage chairs and the rest rooms are in the back. When it comes to manicures I have certain expectations including clean equipment, not rushing too much (because that generally leads to cuts) and some version of the lotion/hot towel treatment at the end. I can happily say all this was done with an interesting variation. Nowadays they use disposable gloves with lotion inside of them (which was warmed up, a nice touch). Instead of just leaving them on for a bit and then removing them, they put them on early in the manicure, then broke the finger tips so they could expose my nails to work on my cuticles. Meanwhile the rest of my hand got to enjoy a good lotion treatment. It was nice! I do a basic manicure most of the time and add on the buff afterwards. With tip this whole thing was about $25, which is not bad at all. I enjoyed my visit to Issa and would go back if I was in the area. read more

So I went here because I was in the neighborhood and had to kill time. The salon is clean, prices are fair for Manhattan, the staff is nice and they were able to fit me in without an appointment. I think the color and shape of my toe nails is excellent. However, the "massage," they give, I'm pretty sure the objective to rub the skin off one's body. I kept saying, "ow," and she said "sorry." However I knew it wasn't all in my head because three hours later I was struggling to walk. I had to ice my foot because two of my toes and the top part of my foot were literally blue and bruised! Poor quality from the person who did my pedicure. I'm also upset about coming in, waiting and someone coming after me without an appointment who was being extremely demanding and was taken before me. I understand they have to keep the peace, but that is not fair to me just because I sat quietly. This is very poor customer service. Once they saw me looking at them, they seemed to grab someone from the back with, what I'm assuming, less experience since my pedicure was not great looking at all. Great place!! First time trying this salon and I've verb to a few in the Uws but this feels like one of the best! I got a lavender spa pedicure and it truly was a wonderful experience, scrub, leg and foot mask, hot stone massage(15 min!) my legs felt so much better afterwards ! I had to point out all the mistakes the nail made and after repeatedly asking them to fix it, still looked bad so I gave up. They also file my nails a lot and hurt me. I don't normally write reviews, but this was a bad service. The tech was so rushed and aggressive with the cuticle pusher that my nails were left bleeding in three places, which I had to point out to her. She did apologize and seemed to feel bad about it. I asked for a gel french manicure and ended up paying $70ish dollars for the pictured result. Needless to say, I wasn't happy. And finally, my manicure peeled off the next day. I considered going back to ask for my money back but I'd rather my experience there just be over. read more

This has become my go-to nail place for regular manis and pedis. Even when it gets busy I don't feel like I'm being rushed out. As someone that just gets regular polish the big plus for me is the very big selection of colours in Esse, Esse couture, OPI, OPI infinite shine and Zoya. They don't charge extra for infinite shine or Zoya polishes, which some places do. They also use Zoya for the base coat and the Esse Couture top coat which really helps the mani last. There are some ladies that can do basic nail art (like a stripe, moon etc) but this isn't the place for the fancy stuff. Note that the prices displayed are for if you are paying cash. There is an ATM inside with a 99c fee, and where possible try to tip in cash. They also have a loyalty card where you get $5 off your 6th service. It gets busy in the late evenings and I try to avoid going on the weekend. I've seen folks make appointments but honestly I'd just walk in. read more

Came here after a friend recommended me. First impression was how busy it was that was told to come back another time. I didn't mind because I work a block away. One of the employees wrote down my number and estimated time they would be ready for me. They ended up calling me to come in and the same employee thanked me at the door for coming back. Yesterday I made an appointment and came to Issa Nails for a full long stiletto acrylic set with nail art and a deluxe spa pedicure. They did the pedicure first and although it looks okay, I had some issues. I got gel for my toes and when they were doing one foot, they kept the other under the gel uv led lamp for a long time, maybe 5 minutes. My foot got really hot and I now realize today that my feet are sunburned. I know that color gel needs only 1 minute to cure and top/base coats only need 30 seconds. I'm on vacation where I'll be walking a ton and this is really upsetting. I was hoping they would try to do the pedi and at least some of the full set at the same time but whatever. After the pedicure they tried to convince me to do gel extension instead. I wanted acrylic, however I have experience with the Apres brand gelX which I usually do myself at home so I agreed. This was not the Apres brand- they used regular curved tips and although I said I wanted them very long, we had to restart two nails because she cut them all the way down. Then they questioned why I wanted them that long. Getting the long narrow stiletto shape is important to me and the nails were different lengths and shapes. It took forever just to get the tips close to what I wanted. Then she used the drill on my natural nails, nicking my cuticles and making them thinner. You're not supposed to use the drill on natural nails. Once she started doing the builder gel, she did three thin patchy coats which took a long time. Then she used the drill to even out the nails and continue shaping them. I got so exhausted sitting there I just basically gave up and let her do what she wanted. The result was patchy uneven gel nails. She didn't clean up the edges when the gel went outside the nails. The under sides are jagged and they look like claws. When you do longer nails flat shape tips are ideal and look better and they don't break as easy. See for yourself. These nails are embarrassing. Four of my fingers have torn cuticles, one of my fingers has a big cut on the side of the nail from the file. Someone should check their licenses because I don't feel like there was proper training here. Once it was time to pay I wanted to use a credit card and she asked me to pay cash. She pointed to a super sketchy ATM at the back of the salon. I told her I didn't want to take cash out, it was a credit card. She insisted cash is better (easier to hide from the IRS?) and I said no. She then told me she will charge me extra to use card. Whatever. Before tip they charged me $243. I don't mind paying a lot for good nails. I pay over $300 to good nail techs in Beverly Hills. This was a shame. Somehow their yelp reviews are decent. I was there for over four and a half hours and just wanted to leave as soon as I could. Stay away. There are hundreds of nail salons a stones throw away. read more

My daughter and I come here 1-2 times a month, the staff knows us and in the past we have always gotten nice mani's and pedi's here. Something has changed, and it's not for the better. We went here late this afternoon and was totally rushed through the entire visit. Every manicure seat is empty, yet they insisted on doing my gel manicure while I was getting the pedicure. My old gel wasn't soaked off, it was filed off only - it hurt, it wasn't totally removed and I was twisted to one side so the woman could get to my opposite hand . My daughter, sitting next to me, was treated the same way. And to set the polish, the lamp was placed on my legs - with an entire bowl of water in the pedicure chair underneath - wires were across my lap etc - what would have happened if the lamp fell in? And who would be responsible? Used to like coming here but not anymore. $245 for both of us but the service wasn't worth a fraction of it. They realized at the end that I was not happy with the experience so they tried to give me a gift certificate for a 10 minute massage - ha! Like I'll be coming back - never...... read more

We stopped by around 2pm without a reservation and were seated right away for pedicures. This salon has a great selection of colors! They have the popular brands, as well as well-stocked displays of some smaller niche brands. The pedicure chairs are separated by clear plastic shower curtains which is a little awkward, especially considering nothing else like the manicure chairs or drying stations have any partitions. It was mostly pretty clean, but not every tool was sterilized. The price of a pedicure was about $30 which is pretty standard for NYC. They did give a little reward card at checkout, where if you come in a certain number of times you get a reward discount off your next service which is a nice bonus. read more

They aren't very good at time management but they do take their time with each customer - go with time to spare and they will take care of you. I have taken off two stars because I had SNS/acrylics removed which creates a lot of residue but they didn't scrape any of it out from under my nails even though I asked. The base of the manicure closest to the cuticle was also uneven and could have been done with a steadier hand. I pointed this out and she did try to fix it but it was on the third coat of polish. Finally, I did not see sanitizers anywhere and lastly, the nail tech used the cuticle clipper on her OWN CUTICLES and then used them in mine without any cleaning in between!!! Wtf! There was a miscommunication about tips being in cash so I tried to tip with my card (filled out the amount with the tip for a higher total) then they asked for cash instead and I had to ask multiple times to get the slip back to not get charged twice for the tip. So disappointing because I have been coming here for a while now and was always satisfied with the service. The staff is friendly and even when it gets busy, they try to accommodate you as quickly as possible. However, my last two experiences have been terrible so I will not be returning. First bad experience: I am seated and a woman comes to remove the gel from my nails. I had never seen her before in all the time I've been coming here so I assumed she was new. Once she started to paint my nails I noticed there were already bubbles forming, so I pointed them out to her. She removed it and repainted it, but the same thing happened. So I said, is it maybe the nail polish? She just said no in an irritated way. Didn't fix them again so I left with bubbled nails. Second bad experience: I am seated like usual and as the woman is starting my mani I realize it's the same woman I had my first bad experience with. This time was even worse. I kept telling her I wanted my nails as short as possible and round. She said ok, but would not cut them short enough and filing made my nails crooked and pointy. So I politely asked her to file them more to make them round. She very quickly filed again and moved on. I wanted to take a look and she just snatched my hand and continued before I could say anything. Then I started to get irritated and told her the nails are still crooked. She let out an angry grunt and I had had enough so I grabbed the nail file and had to fix them myself! I could've done this for free at home. When I started to file, she walked off. She came back a few min later and painted my nails sloppily. I still tried to remain polite and said thank you several times before leaving and she just grunted again and walked away. I went to Issa Nails, located on 72nd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. Two of the ladies there who do nails and toes named, Ana and Monica were laughing and talking about the customers there in their own language. They actually thought the person couldn't tell what they were doing - sneering people there. Staring and laughing. They both were looking and saying things that were not nice regarding customers who were spending their money there. The owner must realize that people don't have to pick this nail salon to go to and spend their money. As the customers were getting their feet scraped and done with Betty, who is very professional and nice. Ana and Monica were staring, whispering and talking to each other in their own language. This doesn't make the customers feel welcome or comfortable and it's somewhat bias and/or racist. Every time I looked up and was trying to relax and enjoy getting my pedicure, Ana and Monica was looking/staring at me. Maybe she doesn't like other cultures . . . Who knows??? Both of them were talking about me and others and hopefully, the owner/boss in charge will do address this unprofessional behavior. They are not kind or professional. Just because you speak in your own language doesn't mean other people don't know what you are insinuating, etc. Betty was very kind, professional and willing to take any customer, no matter what culture/ color they were. I will never return to this nail salon again! Before I even started, the nail tech questioned my "short" nails saying "to short, you no wanna make long?" when I told her no, she got upset. She then proceeded to do my manicure pushing my cuticles so hard that it hurt. THEN she does my gel manicure and tells me she is done, when I looked at my nails, I could basically see through the nail color! My original color was a dark purple. Then, she asks me 'massageeh' and I say no. She proceeds to do a poor job polishing. Then, we get to manicure, I repeat twice 'straight with rounded edges.' Nod, nod, nod. And, she doesn't listen, she just keeps looking around while filing, filing, filing straight across. I stop, get ready to leave.
