I like this nail salon because it's clean and my manicure/pedicure comes out well. They are more expensive than the ones nearby, but the premium is worth it. All their equipment comes sterilized in individual packets. They have a new strip for each client to exfoliate your feet. Nothing is reused. They apply nail polish consistently well, which the most important part. No bubbles on the polish and no cakey application. They don't do super fancy designs or anything, but the quality is consistently high. Their preparation for COVID-19 is thorough. They measure your temperature when you enter and they have plastic separators for guests and their employees. They sanitize things.

Echoing other reviews, you do not get what you pay for at Le Jolie. I am so disappointed that I'm writing this as I walk out. I came here much more often when I lived closer 5 years ago. Big difference. First, they're now an assembly line here. My mani / pedi was done in 40 minutes. I didn't even know that was possible. "What kind of pedicure would you like?" "Just the regular," I say. I get a disappointed look. (Really?) And away the tech went getting me through the process as quickly as possible. I go to pay and my 40 min lackluster experience is $62. What would, just a few avenues over, cost $45. When I looked down at the job the nail tech did compared to the price, I gave her a $7 tip. She looked at me and said "20% is $12." I said, "Ok." She said, pointing at the money, "This is it?" I said "What's wrong?" She said, "This is not 20%." Y'all, I almost lost it, but did not. I simply said "It is not, no." (I won't even detail the 20 min massage bc it was with a different employee and a 5 out of 10 at best--totally clouded by the previous 40 mins. Had I not already paid for it, I would've just walked out in that moment.) When the massage was done, I looked down at my dry nails. Air bubbles and streaks everywhere. Seriously, this is prime nail salon territory. Go somewhere else.

This spot deserves more good reviews! I got a gel manicure ($45) - the nail tech did a perfect job shaping the nails and applying the color. It's only day 2 now so i'll update if it peels/chips too soon. But she put in the prep work on my nails which some salons skip on when you're getting gel color. I get gel manicures often and i've been unhappy with another UWS nail salon so I was looking for something new. I'm curious to try their powder gel to see what that's like. My friend got a basic manicure ($17) and hers also came out great. Will definitely go back. Note - they do take credit cards for $20+, all tips must be in cash.

Nails

I got dip powder nail extensions here and they looked great. After two days two nails popped right off. I went in and they fixed them... then a few days later they all fell off and cracked. The best part IS THEY CHARGED ME 100 dollars. Go somewhere else and get nails that stay for 50 dollars less. Very disappointed with this waste of money.

I've gone to La Jolie for years, and am always pleased, but have to say Diana was superb and kind. Best mani/pedi I've ever had.

Hospitality is great, front office manager gentleman is sweet and welcoming. My nail technician was Jee Young. She was professional, meticulous and very thoughtful. I like her calming presence and how she asks if I like my nails every so often. I did a simple cat eye on short nails and the service took about an hour. They were also very accommodating as I moved my service up by an hour for which was very appreciated. I got the Korean maxim coffee drink at the end, and it was just the boost I need to walk back home 22 blocks. Can't wait to come back soon for a pedicure and my next monthly service.

My pedicure from Daisy lasted a month with no chips! As she worked, she checked multiple times to make sure I liked the shape of my nails and how they looked in general. I couldn't recommend this salon enough! They also have chargers everywhere and cool charger/phone holders for when you get pedicures or are drying your nails. Daisy is "Sister 24". You won't regret it.

It truly creates a relaxing atmosphere. However, I've noticed that the quality of the mani & pedi has declined over the years, which has made me hesitant to return, even though it's in the most convenient location for me. These days when I returned, it's just for last minute color change to avoid more damage. I referred a friend to join me for a mani/pedi once, and she also mentioned that while the ambiance is great, but the owners should get their own mani & pedi done by their technicians, which I completely agree with. While I usually don't like getting my cuticles pushed or cut, I really appreciate that they respected that preference. However, when it comes to removing polish, it's done very recklessly with a lack of attention to detail. On several occasions, they've scraped the skin around the nails--sometimes cutting it to the point where it bled and required a bandage. When I mentioned this to the hostess after she asked for feedback, she dismissed it by saying I have sensitive skin. Since when is it normal for skin to be scraped during a mani/pedi? Additionally, I've had gel mani here twice in a row, and the technician over-shaved to the point where my nails ended up paper-thin that I have to ask the technician to apply extra coats to make up for it. One time, the technician even touched my skin with the machine that is used to shave the gel polish off. I've also had my skin scraped during pedicures, which is concerning. Every time I get a gel mani, within two weeks, the polish would start to lift on the cuticle side, which shows a lack of precision during the application. My friend got a regular mani & pedi here, and one of her nails chipped within a day. While I still love the atmosphere and the owners, the decline in the quality of the services, especially regarding polish removal, nail care, and attention to detail, has made me hesitant on coming back.

The interior design of the space is what pulled my attention when walking up 9th Ave. It is chic yet accessible and never approaches being or feeling gaudy. Very clean look (and space). Great color palate used. Very comfortable chairs. Good use of white space accentuated with green angular paint and golden decals and other ornamentations, all done minimally and with purposeful placement. Carmen (my nail tech) made good efforts and took obvious care to give me a nice buff manicure, all for only $27 (+ a small amount of tax). No nips or cuts. No pain. Textbook technique. Picked up well on when I wanted to zen out to the aura of the space and the well-curated spa playlist vs when I was open to a little nail tech kiki. Loved the sugar scrub they use for the hand massage. I take ownership for not getting the pre-cuticle work nail soak as part of the provided service. IMO, if a nail salon doesn't automatically incorporate the soak into your mani, you as the customer should speak up when the softening gel is pulled out and before it is applied. If they don't offer it? That's another thing. But I didn't test those waters and cannot speak to Nail Me Right (goodness gravy I love the business name!). So, keep in mind if the soak is your thing. They were very accommodating from the moment I arrived until I left. So I have a hunch this request wouldn't be a problem. Same with the end result. You as the customer are responsible for checking your nails / hands / feet / whatever before ending the appointment. I was late for my next appointment and did not, later seeing I would've like a little extra work done where the far end of nail edges meets the finger and a shinier buff applied. Again, I am quite sure Carmen would have accommodated had I done my part and spoken up before leaving. Still, I woke up the next morning to those slight extra bits naturally working themselves out (which points to the moisturizing measures NMR applies being of good quality), and my hand looking nice. I plan to pop in next time I'm in the area and in the market for some nail / hand / foot love, and hope you'll consider doing the same to support this family and what they're working to bring to the neighborhood.
