Within 24 hours of getting powder gel done on my nails they started chipping and within 2 weeks they were completely destroyed. I purposely choose powder because when I researched gel nails it stated powder gel last up to 4 weeks and I choose bijou because a colleague suggested them. This was one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had, and it honestly felt like robbery. All that was missing was a mask and a gun--that's how I felt walking out of there. I went in for a basic pedicure--no polish, just cleaning--and was quoted $37. After she started I asked if she could work on my heels. I was told it would be another $10 if I wanted them to actually use a pumice stone on my heels. That's a basic part of a pedicure. Instead, I got nothing more than a foot soak, a little cream, and some oil rubbed on. That's it. The laziness was unreal. And to make it worse, the technician was muttering about me in Spanish, not realizing I speak it too. Absolutely insulting and unprofessional. I went here because one of my nails fell off before graduation and they had powder fill listed online for $40. I can usually get an acrylic fill WITH designs for $60 maximum but I left with a one color, barely opaque set for $85. Eighty. Five. They even tried to convince me my previous nails weren't acrylic so they could charge me $100. I never ever complain and this is absolutely unlike me but when I say I was bleeding out of every single one of my cuticles afterwards I am not joking. This is the worst quality I have ever seen in the city. I go acrylic tips with gel polish on top and literally within an hour of getting them done, the gel polish completely peeled off and the next morning it came off on another finger. I went back to get it fixed that day (which they did fix right away) but then the following morning the gel polish came off ANOTHER finger on my other hand! Wtf I can't just keep going back to the salon everyday to get it re-done! I will NEVER be going back! It cost me $85 to get my nails done that literally don't even last a day! So terrible! read more

Today was especially exceptional; I've had a serious injury since my last visit and had to wait longer than usual to return to Bijou. The staff is always attentive and have a very easy going relaxed style, however, able to multi-task numerous clients without letting any client feel left out or ignored. Jeanette remembered me , and took care of me with such gentle grace - navigating the steps, chair and moving to another location for the massage - all felt painless and easy. So definitely, the staff has an exceptional standard of care. The pedicure itself is exceptional. Jeanette makes sure the nails are solidly dry, however long it takes - and she has an acumen for this. The finished product is very professional and lasts far longer than any DIY attempts. they literally broke my nail while taking gel off and then tried to blame it on me??? i never leave reviews but this place deserves one. i have been here multiple times because it's so close but every time i question why i came back because they don't do a good job. they don't listen if you say something is uncomfortable or painful. when i was getting my gel off she scraped so hard i told her it was painful and the acetone probably needed to set longer and she said it was almost off and then she broke my nail by scraping it so hard. they also left nail polish on my fingers when they were done and whatever she used to "fix" my nail looks terrible. read more

First time here- overall impression is that of a functional nail salon. No frills, but they try to do a few extra things here and there. For example, today my pedicure bath included 2 lemon slices which were used as part of the exfoliation and cleansing. Very refreshing for summertime. Good selection of Essie nail polish. No wait time today. Noticed a fairly decent turnover. The space is slightly cramped, but still decent. The music is good- soft and relaxing. A few Norah Jones tracks were in the mix today. You can add an additional 10 mins of massage for $9 during your pedicure. And if you want a quick dry top coat that is an additional $1. Be careful when they ask you if you want something more since these can add up quick if you unwittingly agree. I especially enjoyed that they used paraffin wax for the heels during the pedicure. You get a 5% discount if you pay in cash but they do accept credit/debit card for a $20 minimum. The atmosphere is calm and serene with low music playing in the background. The nail techs are all seemingly nice and accommodating, and one of the Korean ladies, her nametag said Sarah, did my nails, was very good, she helped file away old acrylic that were stubbornly stuck on two of my fingernails. A+ for her noticing it before I had a chance to tell her! She also put saran wrap on my feet to prevent them from getting ruined because I was wearing boots. The woes of getting pedicures done in the winter. They offer massages and waxing, and they are fairly priced in my opinion. For the service and atmosphere, I think it's competitively priced, just pay attention to possible extra charges like you should do with all places to begin with. Despite their job as nail-techs they also have to upsell their other services to you, so if you want just a manicure, then say no to any other offers. Don't mistake their offer as a freebie, because it is not unless the word free is included in the sentence. I've come here pretty often, and my most recent trip had me irritated. Thursday midday and walking in there are 4 other women ahead of me, and as I was seated, it just kept getting crowded with more women walking in. It gets very cramped and claustrophobic when there are so many people in the shop. Especially at the drying station. At one point, every nail tech including the head woman in charge was at a manicure or pedicure station. I was just irritated with how you get rushed when a new person walks through the door. I appreciate how they try to be accommodating, but as a customer, if you see its busy when you walk in, I'm pretty sure you know you're going to have to wait awhile. Seeing them rush with each person, including myself, I could see the annoyance building up with one woman who sat next to me at the drying station even though it was a tight squeeze and became uncomfortable. I went here on December 4th for powder gel nails. I've had powder gels at other salons and never had issues. This physically hurt...bad. The lady was rushing and pressing way too hard on my nails and I kept saying ouch and moving my hand away. I asked her to please be more gentle and she kept rushing. When I got home all of my fingertips were literally in pain and it hurt trying to write, type or eat for several days. I had to have my husband open a can of soda for me the next day because it hurt so bad. Well today is December 28th and after the gel coming off, you can see visible bruises... 24 days later!!! Unfortunately I won't be returning. I have been at least 5 times since my last review and they never recognize me, they prioritize walk-ins over appointments, they upsell you at every possible juncture (no sign posted anywhere that the lacure brand is $5(!) extra, are you sure you don't want callus removal?, quick dry top coat is a dollar more, etc.), and they don't listen when you say something is uncomfortable or you just don't want part of the service (like the weird lotion gloves that are just wasteful and add no value for me). At best, you should be able to relax during a manicure/ pedicure but my last time here was truly unpleasant. They left the acetone and foil on my nails so long my nails actually curled up until she scraped off the old gel-- it was almost painful and she was too busy filing my nail shape instead of trying to get the other nails' gel off. They also way overcommit, which is tied to the issue of walk-ins vs appointments. If you have six people working and seven clients in chairs, you can't seriously tell every walk-in the wait is ten minutes... the wait can't always be 10 minutes! The math doesn't add up! This just leads to a room full of resentful clients in a bad mood! I ended up rushing out and smudging because I couldn't stand being in there anymore-- an hour and a half for a regular mani pedi with gel removal just on hands. I had a 2 hour break in between classes, decided to get a mani pedi... I had 2 different people do my nails and 3 different people do my toes, and their pedicure shouldn't be priced at $26 when it's really just soak & polish. No scrub, lotion, massage, etc. UPDATE: checked my credit card statement, and they mis charged me. The board they have says $10 manicure, $25 pedicure, (and I paid for my boyfriends $10 manicure separately) The bill for my mani pedi came to $39 and my boyfriends mani was $10.50???? The lady who painted my nails did not bother to cut my cuticles, she quickly painted 2 coats of nail polish on in 1 minute for each hand. The sloppiest and quickest nail job I've ever had. I also did regular pedicure which included this pink hot lotion to make the sole of your feet softer I also got a massage done which was also great. Bijou has been my go-to nail spot when I'm at work for months now, and this salon is clean, consistent and efficient! On weekdays around lunchtime, I can usually get in and out within 35 minutes. For regular manicures, they'll run you $10.50, but if you pay in cash, you get a 5% discount. They also have manicure/pedicure specials Monday-Wednesday that are worth checking out. Not to mention their pedicures are wonderful. They add slices of fresh lemon to your bath for extra freshness! I will say, though, that I've had different levels of satisfaction depending on which nail tech I have. Try Jin - she's the best I've experienced here. Thorough, gentle and precise! Don't waste your time on mediocre places that charge upwards of $14.00 for a mani around this neighborhood. Try here, instead! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! This place is UNSANITARY and DIRTY! I recently had my nails done (manicure) a few weeks ago per the positive reviews on Yelp and I would never go back, never. My manicurist was nice enough, though she rushed my nails along and did a poor job, she talked the whole time to the gal next to her; she asked if I wanted "top coat", I said yes, then charged me extra (it made no difference) my nails we're done so horribly that you could see where the top coat applied as there were lines all over my nails, it looked AWFUL. That wasn't the worst of it, the tools used on my fingers WERE PULLED OUT OF THE MANICURISTS POCKET, meaning THEY WERE NOT CLEAN OR SANITARY. But I have short stubby fingers and I need the fake nails for my hands to look ok. My nails were super expensive and I don't even think they look that great. I paid 80 bucks for a spa pedicure here because I wanted to treat myself during lunch. Anyways, it was the worst one I have ever gotten for a few reasons... The technicians kept laughing and talking amongst themselves as if they had never seen a guy get a spa pedicure. And even worst, she cut me on my big toe and within weeks I developed toenail fungus! And as someone who's always had great hygiene and awesome feet, this is ABSOLUTELY APPALLING! Now I'm paying for expensive medical treatment and have an ugly toenail. I have been looking for a great salon now since I moved back a few months ago and have been met with failure, after disappointment, after broken nail. I was sick of it. Then, I found Bijou Nails and everything changed. I walked in and was seen immediately even though the salon looked pretty busy. They asked me if they could do my nails first, but I always wreck my pedicure if it's not dry by the time I leave. They were really accommodating and said okay. They really whipped through both my gel nails and my pedicure; I think I was in the salon MAYBE an hour or so. It seemed like a few minutes. I've never had my nails done so quickly or so beautifully. I am blown away by this place. While it's about 10 blocks from my place I'll happily skip over to get my nails done any and every time! I love this place! This is a little out of my way, but is my go-to nail salon when I have the time (by out of the way, I mean more than my usual 5 block radius-- I am a lazy/ busy NY-er, sorry!). But I love Jay (the technician with the braces). She is so sweet and remembered me two months after working on my nails once. I do insist on working with her. There is one technician with a wart on her hands and that concerns me-- I am sorry to say it, but they *are* in intimate contact with our skin and the virus could spread. Management should help her get medical attention for this. Anyway, so that is the only downside... and ask to work with Jay and you will be in excellent hands (literally). You can do a mani-pedi with 10 min massage for $49 dollars and in NY, that's amazing. Although the salon is not luxurious, everyone is friendly and it is sterile. They do a complimentary parrafin treatment on your heels and use fresh lemon slices in the pedi-bath-- very nice touches! There is little to no wait and, overall, you just cannot beat the price-- which is why I give it 4/5 stars. read more
