What a nightmare. I urge you to be very careful with this business. I have been a regular customer, but recently had an appointment cancelled on me the day before, which was really inconvenient. I found out later it was because my regular person no longer worked there. In following up and trying to reschedule I discovered that every time I booked through the online system, my card was charged, and if I modified the reservation, I was charged again. According to the Colorvat policies, this money is supposed to be issued as a gift card to the client, but mine never were and I suspect the same is true for many other clients - they are just betting on you not calling them on it. So now I am held hostage to spend hundreds of dollars here, but to use the "gift cards" (my own money) I can't book through the online system, and have very slow and stilted interactions by text when I try to book with their administration. There are lots of other places to get a good manicure - I hope my story will help you avoid the same problems! PLEASE watch out if you modify a reservation you made online! read more

This was the best manicure experience of my life. As someone with dry hands, brittle nails, and constantly peeling cuticles, I am often self-conscious about my hands. I have tried many things to little or no end, like moisturizing gloves and constantly applying cuticle oil/lotion. Whenever I have gone to a salon, I have learned to brace myself for the shaming comments. I will never forget one technician who burst out laughing loudly in frustration and yelled, "your cuticles! ugh! they are so thick!" Others would scold me for not moisturizing or caring well enough for my hands. I began apologizing for my hands before I even sat down! I have been stressed lately and wanted to do something nice for my hands. I found colorvat online and can only wish that I found it sooner. First of all, the space is beautiful. Immaculately clean with adorable decor. All the staff are so friendly, accommodating, and the place is peaceful and relaxing. Booking and communication were smooth. Now for the manicure. This might sound overly emotional, but I think many that have struggled with embarrassment around their nails may understand. My technician did not even flinch looking at my nails. Nor did she tell me that I was neglecting them or that they were gross or bad in any way. She was kind, helpful, and pragmatic. She recommended a gel hardener for $10 extra which I did in addition to the manicure. I have literally never seen anyone put so much meticulous energy and care into a manicure. My nails are literally so perfect I could cry. I never thought my hands would look like this. She didn't make me feel rushed at all, and patiently helped me pick out a color and even brought out an adorable book of designs for accent nails. She really made me feel cared for and I will definitely be coming back. I didn't know that i didn't have to suffer (the irony!) while getting my nails done and now it can be something I actually look forward to. Everything about this salon was absolutely amazing! From the location (literally right off of the 79th subway stop) to the customer service, it was overall such a wonderful experience. I had my acrylic nails for just about a year, and knew that my nails were extremely brittle and in very bad conditions for having them on for so long. I messaged Monica over Yelp late, and still received a reply and booked an appointment almost instantly. I was definitely skeptical to have them taken off as well, just because I assumed for it to be very painful and getting them redone would be as well. But the staff was absolutely amazing! They worked their magic, making the removal of the acrylics and application of hard gel extremely comfortable. I had even sent a picture of the nail design I wanted, and Stephen (also extremely nice and helpful) matched the color while my nails were being revived (lol). Then Monica applied the polish and painted the design flawlessly. She even gave me a recommendation of a nail technician to go to when I go back home! The service was definitely longer, but due to the condition of my nails, I was extremely appreciative. The location is also convenient because there is a coffee shop (Irving Farm) directly across the street, so while I was getting my nails done, my mom stayed there. They create stunning artistry but with a primary focus on healthy nail care. They also use advanced techniques and Industry exclusive products to provide a high-end experience. Monika totally revived my crusty dry hang-nailed ridden hands. On my first visit, I left with silky soft hands and nails so shiny it was hard to believe they were mine. She personalized my experience by consulting with me to make sure she understood my concerns which were brittle and nails. She recommended a solution I'd never heard of before. It's going on 2 weeks now and I can totally feel the difference. The studio has a boutique feel with an ultra sleek and modern ambience. It's cute and sophisticated without being pretentious. It's also well organized and brightly lit with the simplicity of the Apple store. The team is absolutely lovely. When you walk through the door, they are naturally warm, friendly making you feel immediately comfortable. Monika is very personable and inviting.  However, the moment I sat in her chair it was all about getting down to business. Don't expect idle chatter. She is intensely focused with an extreme attention to detail. It's quite obvious she's very passionate about her craft. Regardless of experience, she trains her technicians 1:1 until they can deliver the quality she expects. I've also gone to Andrea for my pedicures. She's easy going, always smiling and will flutter around and fuss to get you settle. My coat is off, belongings put away and drink in my hand before I even realize what's happening. Jackie is also one of the technicians and Monika's right hand.  She is soooo sweet and helps keep things running smoothly. She seems to know what Monika needs before she even knows she needs it.  It's quite entertaining to watch actually. Overall, the staff is all equally good but ultimately you're going to have a favorite.   Service is always impeccable and a bit more affordable than some of the better-known high end salons. I really appreciate the value of my service after ever visit. Personally, I recommend booking an online rather than walking in. The salon has gotten quite busy this early on. There are no rush jobs here and the space is very cozy. However, they'll try their best to accommodate. In my case, I arrived late but Monika managed to use the remaining time to give me a manicure that was pretty close to what I wanted had I arrived on time. If your limited to acrylics and old school gel then stick to your neighborhood bodega style or chain salons that care only about filling chairs with bodies. Honestly bummed I didn't discover this place sooner! I was able to get a same day reservation for a gel removal and gel mani. The studio is cute and very clean - conventionally located around the corner from Broadway. Not onto the good stuff...this might be the best manicure I've ever had! Monika was so meticulous and took her time, gently removing my previous gel from another salon. They use a European method (no water) with different brands and tools from what I've seen at other salons and I've been to many. I really admire the artistry and education and I especially love how great my nails look. She shaped them perfectly, and cleaned up my cuticles so that the gel could extend right to the edge, ensuring that my mani will last as long as possible. Monika, your behavior is abhorrently inappropriate. Original Review: I recently moved uptown and was looking for a new nail salon. My mainstay was a Japanese nail studio downtown, but I wanted something more convenient. Then I found Colorvat and fell in love with the place. It's super zen and the staff is very attentive. I have been going to Colorvat regularly for a few months now. I thought they were doing a pretty good job. The quality wasn't as good as the Japanese salon I used to go to, but the ambiance and location made it seem like a fair trade. Then the trouble started. I introduced a friend of mine to Colorvat and she loved it just as much as I did. However, when we made appointments to go together a second time, her appointment was messed up. It was her fault, she booked the wrong day. She felt terrible about it and apologized profusely. Instead of helping her book another appointment, the man behind the desk began to lecture her and argue with her. This made everyone in the salon uncomfortable. After that, she never went back. Fast forward to today, that same friend and I decided to head back downtown to the old Japanese studio so she would feel more comfortable. When the technician at the studio downtown began to remove the gel Colorvat applied to my nails, she found a fungal infection that had been growing out with my nail for at least a month. This is disgusting. The nail technicians at Colorvat do not properly remove the old gel before applying the new gel. This means that when the new gel is applied, there can be gaps left between the gel and the nail that can fwater and bacteria. I will never be coming back here. read more

Great service all the staff are really friendly. Everyone wears masks and gloves and they have a safety protocol (masks required, take your temperature, sanitize and wash your hands before entering). I decided to splurge on gel extensions after quarantine since I'd been stress biting and wanted to treat myself. My tiny dry bitten nail beds were a mess but they made them look infinitely better. They weren't judgmental abt my hands either and the owner who did my manicure gave me tips on how to care for my hands better. I came in with the absolute worst nail situation. I hit my gel acrylic so hard that it pulled my real nail up with it, but was still attached by the top. I was panicking and did not know what to do so I looked at reviews and came here. The goal was to just get all my acrylics off and probably have them take my pinky nail with it. But they really went above and beyond! The technician and Monika examined my broken nail and discussed the best way to take it off to try and save the nail. I have been getting manicures since I was in middle school. Between the many nail salons I've been to in many different cities, without question, ColorVat is the best nail salon I've ever gone to. The salon has a wonderful vibe, is beautiful, and when you are there the staff makes you feel like family. Although all of the nail technicians are top-notch, Monika (the owner) is phenomenal and a true artist when it comes to nail design. The magic she works on my nails allows the gel to last so much longer compared to any other salon I've been to in the past. Okay, so. Part of me hates writing this review because then the secret is out about how amazing Colorvat is, and it'll be harder to get an appointment Lol. I went here my first time on a whim and I had an ombré look for my brother's wedding and she matched the colors, EXACTLY to my dress from a single picture. The next time I was going to Portugal and asked her for her to paint Portuguese flags on my nails. Again.from.a.picture. It was flawlessly executed. I had so many compliments on my nails! The best part is Monika and Jackie and Maria are all so incredibly nice and make you feel like family. Are these things made of metal or something!? So I found this place here on Yelp, I was looking for fancy nail salons that can do very cutesy Japanese-esque nail art. Previously I had spent $180 at a Korean nail spa in New Jersey for my birthday, the one inside of King Spa. They did dip nails and the nails started falling off the next day! It was so terrible, they were all random lengths, random shapes, and bumpy. I think I only had 4 nails left by the time I went to ColorVat! After explaining my situation to Monika she removed what was left for free and then spent a lot of time making sure that the new set would stay and last. She really went off the wall with the design too! She trusted my design sense and we ended up going with pink almond shape nails that had mermaid power, a unicorn nail, and, even charms and hand drawn designs on them! It all took like around like 3 hours maybe because of all the fixing she had to do, but I didn't feel rushed at all! In all it costs me the normal price of $175, with $15 taken off with a new customer discount. Steep but pretty worth it, I love everything about my nails and the experience (they gave me delicious mango tea). Though like anything, there were some hangups, but it was handled very well. I live a very fast paced and labor intensive lifestyle. So I wasn't at all shocked when some of the mermaid powder started rubbing off on one hand. It was very odd, I'm thinking that we overcured that hand or forgot a clear coat because it was just my left hand only. Monika has a two week fix policy and she had previously urged me to call her if anything went wrong. So that's what I did! She responded very quickly and I went in for a complimentary fix the same day I called. I also went in for a 2nd fix to get the charms removed since some fell off and was looking wonky after 2 weeks maybe. Now for longevity...I am honestly amazed. I have been wearing this set now for a month, a MONTH!! And not one nail has broken, and they still look pretty new for the most part. Like what is this stuff made out of!? I have never had my nails last this long in my life. I feel like if you're going to splurge on your nails, this is the place to do it. It may end up even cheaper than your run of the mill acrylic salon where you have to get a fill or new set much more often. I always get designs and a different nail shape so it always costs me a lot and they end up breaking regardless. I'm going to post my second review on here with more pictures because 5 months later, I am still SO happy with my nails, Monica, and Colorvat. And I want to show my support for this business because they have truly worked miracles on my nails. At my first appointment 6 months ago my nails were in horrible condition. They were extremely short, soft, and brittle and would break daily. Regular nail polish would only last a maximum of two days before cracking or chipping and even with gel manicures (shellac/opi) I would be lucky if I could stretch it out for a week before my nails bent and they started peeling from the corners. For my first Colorvat appointment I got the gel extensions so I could enjoy longer nails for the first time (I wrote my first Yelp review w/pics 5 months ago because I was SO excited about this manicure). This lasted me 4 weeks and my real nails grew so much in the meantime. I then went back and they were able to remove the extension and just put a hard gel polish and high quality color gel (NOT brands from China like opi and shellac). Since then, for the last 5 months I only have to go back every 4 weeks to change the color and put a new coat of the gel on my NATURAL long and healthy nails that have not chipped in 5 months!!! (I am actually in shock) If you are scared off by the price - DON'T BE. Although you may be able to get a gel manicure at another salon for less expensive, it will be much more costly in the long run because it will chip and you will have to get them done more often. I have struggled with having horrible nails my whole life and was even going once a week to get gel to keep my nails looking nice for work. Their attention to detail and the care they use to groom my very fragile cuticles are second to none. I am rough on my nails and they last 3 weeks, only with the occasional minor chip. It's impossible to say enough nice things about this place and the people there. It is bright and beautiful inside, they really know their stuff, and everyone was incredibly helpful and nice. I called in an "emergency" because two of my SNS nails broke on a cab door - hours before my husband's birthday dinner party. They were understandably fully booked, but when I explained what happened and that I only needed two nails done, they fit me in. I had to move out of NYC in the early stages of the pandemic and I miss this place so much.
