I just get color gel manicures, and regular pedicures, but I have found this to be the best place in Harlem to get it done. They don't rush, but are on time. They don't file the your natural nail into oblivion. They can give you any shape you want, my pedicures last, and they are friendly. The place is not super fancy, but it's clean and well maintained. Jun, the owner is a trip! You feel a part of the family there. I couldn't recommend a better place. FYI... If you want designs and all that, this is not your jam. read more

I went here a couple weeks ago and I gotta say that this is my favorite nail salon. Their clean, organized and their bathroom is clean as well. The ladies who work here seem to have a cute family like bond and when they work they get straight to it. No fuss or unnecessary attitude from the staff, or feeling uncomfortable like you're inconveniencing them. True professionals. It's been almost 2 years from my last visit and at that time my regular pedicure lasted MONTHS. (Why would I know that? Bc I'm lazy and don't like going out lol) This time around, the shape is perfect and makes my toes look cute. The toe polish is even and though I went biking immediately after drying my toes they lasted! I really enjoy this salon. Give this salon all the money but save some room for me and be kind to them And leave a nice tip because ya toes will be looking fire. I WILL SAY, their spa treatments are all that great. For $70 the spa experienced felt lacking. I can't even say it felt rushed because I was in that salon for min 2 hours (including drying time) but when I look back on it, I remember telling myself "eh- I could go without it." After reading the reviews I decided to give this place a try ...... save your money and go elsewhere! When I was greeted the guy at the front desk asked me what service I wanted and I told him I wanted a gel mani and pedi he was like gel on the toe too and I said yes so I'm in the middle of my pedi and he walks over to me and tells me he doesn't have a regular polish match for the gel and I said no I told you I wanted both gel mani and pedi and then he said oh well you know it's $75 and $45 I didn't ask him what it cost not one time! Not to mention they do not use the sanitary bags in the pedi spa ...... and it's very crowded. When I asked the lady doing my pedi why the man was treating me that way she didn't respond she just looked at me. This experience was definitely less than I expected! Every time I stray away from this salon to try somewhere new I instantly regret it! It's right up the block from apartment and to my favorite hair/threading salon. This is my go-to nail salon for my gel work and mani/pedi (not an acrylic kind of girl so can't give my review on that)! I honestly don't ever have to make an appointment with a specific person because they all work so diligently! They have a good amount of women working here and for the ones I've received mani/pedis from pay great attention to detail each and every time! This place is honestly my favorite place for pedicures!!! After every service you also receive a quick massage while you dry. The color selection is overwhelming but in a good way! Lol The owner is always there to greet you and treats his workers with what it seems with much respect. The prices are moderate but they do offer specials on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays! It does get busy so walk ins can be a bit of a wait so try to come in when they open or book an appointment! read more

First, the salon has a ton of colors to choose from - something I haven't seen in prior salons I've gone to in NYC. I like to have my nails painted different shades of blue, and I know I have a ton to choose from at Coco Young Nail Salon. Marselina is the b e s t! I just started seeing her end of January, and have been more than happy with the perfection she produces. She is extremely thorough, detail-oriented, and also very kind. She does an impeccable job, and really paid attention to my cuticles which I appreciate. My first gel mani lasted almost 3 weeks, my gel pedi has lasted me about a month. They fixed my nails up stupendously :) I came straight from one cruddy nail salon to here. It took almost an hour to get my previous gel nail off, because they were JUST done and maybe powder? Anyways it was on my cuticles, and just stuck so hard on my nails. But my girl Marisol(??) was so patient and cute. Plus I didn't get charged for any of it! A couple times my cuticles were in pain, but I blame the woman before that painted on my cuticles. The overall atmosphere was crazy busy. It was a packed area, which shows to prove they are very popular! The space is quite tight for all the tables and things going on. There were at least 12 workers all working on different guests. I have been going for manicure and pedicure at Coco Young Nail salon for the last 2 years. Here are my reasons why I am so happy about this place. What differentiates it from other nail salons? 1. The management: First time I went to the salon at the end of the working day - at about 6pm, hoping that I could be accommodated. Totally wrong! The manager sent me away and explained that there was not enough time. I learned 2 things: 1) The manager respects his employees and does not ask them to work after hours, 2) he cares about the quality of the service. 2. The wages for employees: On the wall I noticed an information with the minimum wage paid for the manicurists. I find this very fair. 3. The ladies working on salon: Diligent, polite, perfectionists. They will not rush, they take their time until they are sure that the result is good enough. Usually my pedicure and gel manicure take about 1.5 hours. My last procedure was done by Blanca which was the best so far among all other ladies. read more

I love Coco Young. This is one of my go to salons in my neighborhood (along with Bombshell on 111th), and every time I go somewhere else, I instantly regret it. Why they are amazing: -HUGE color selection-sooooo many gel colors, it's insane and I can always find something I love -Transparent about prices-if I ask how much something costs, I can expect to pay that much plus tip. No upcharging for massaging your feet, foot scrubs, etc -Lovely people-owner and everyone who works there are great, never felt like they were rude or mistreated -Gel lasts forever-can easily get 3 weeks out of it, and could probably get more if I wasn't tempted to pick at my nails. Some places I've been to, gel starts lifting after a week which is not acceptable -Clean-nail salons around here are very hit or miss, and this is a hit I highly suggest making an appointment. I love my nails today! I just got them done by Rebecca. My natural nails are very short and i can't keep them long even when I really try so I opted for acrylic nails. I showed her a nail shape chart on my phone and told her I want the "coffin/ballerina" shape and that's exactly what I got. I chose Essie "lady like" for the color. The owner was extremely nice and everyone is super friendly there. A lot of places only do uv gel now so I was happy to find out that coco nails does acrylic also. UV gel looks pretty too but it's costs way more and burns the heck out of my nail beds when I have to put them under the uv light. Anyhow, I will be coming back. EDIT: I have had to bring this review down to one star because the manicure tips started chipping off less than a day after I got my nails done. One week later there are barely any spots of white left, and the pink is also chipped. I did not bite my nails, pick at the polish, or do any extreme sports this weekend. This polish just doesn't last. I know it was only a $20-ish mani, but when I pay for something I expect it to at least hold up for one day! Original review: I arrived at 11 a.m. and was able to get an immediate walk-in. I just wanted a plain French mani for a job interview, nothing too fancy, and the price was perfect for that (about $19). Nobody had name tags and nobody was particularly talkative, so I can't tell you specifically who helped me. She did a very thorough job on my cuticles, though she did nick my thumb in one place. The manicure is glossy and smooth, no bubbles or anything, and dried fine. My only complaint is that they don't use the acetone brush to even out the white strip on the French manicure, instead relying on a thin brush to do it perfectly (which, because of plain old human error, is basically impossible). As a result, a few of my tips are uneven, with a couple of them swooping to be pretty thick at the sides. For less than 20 dollars, though, it was find - fast, clean, and it's not like anyone at the interview will be staring at my nails anyway. One other weird quirk is that they ask you to pay for your nails before they are painted. I told the girl what I wanted done and she wrote up my invoice, and asked me to pay right then. This felt really weird to me, but I'm from out of town - maybe this is just how they do things in NYC? At any rate, I tipped her once my nails had dried smoothly and I knew I was satisfied, so it all worked out. read more

I had very high hopes for this place. It was close to home and has great reviews. I went for a dip powder full set before vacation. I was late for my appointment and they still took me, very nice. Came in, they were careful. All was well. The next day, as I'm walking through the airport, I notice a nail is missing. I didn't feel it break (no pain, nothing) but I had been moving my suitcase so maybe it was my fault. I'm angry cause it's only been 24 hours but when I land I'll find a nail salon and fix it. I land in DR and find a salon to fix it. She gives me an acrylic replacement and I'm on my way. Except I look down and ANOTHER nail has broken. There's no way this broke from any incredible force. I had literally been sitting in a nail salon 30 seconds earlier. The lady fixes that last one and I'm on my way. Except a third one broke 4 days later. It is now only two weeks later and 7/10 OF MY NAILS HAVE BROKEN. When I landed, they fixed the THIRD nail for free. I had to pay for the other two while on vacation. Let me list the way these nails have broken for those of you who may think I'm just a crazy person who can't handle nails. -picking up laundry -opening a door -putting away laundry -scratching a bug bite Let's keep in mind that I never felt tension or pain, so all of these breaks are a result of very brittle and poorly done nails. Obviously if you feel stress on your nail, you lighten up so they won't break, but I felt nothing. I wish I never spent a dime on these nails and I recommend that you not be fooled by their current yelp status. 7 nails in two weeks is ridiculously excessive considering that I was doing nothing physically strenuous when these happened. I wish I had all of my money back. I had to spend time and money on my vacation fixing the bad job that was done stateside and I still have broken nails!!!!!! Do yourself a favor, skip the dip powder here and find yourself a new tech. read more

Maria did my nails, and she was incredibly thorough. I am a runner and my feet are incredibly calloused. She did an amazing job on them and I can't remember the last time they felt so soft.
