    Foliage on the island

Italy has islands?! I knew that ;) Capri is one of their most popular ones. It fits the saying pretty well - "Big things come in small packages." It's cute with jaw dropping beauty! Unless you're accustomed to this type of living environment, then funicular (funiculare) is a familiar term. You tilt! Honestly, this was the first time I've learned of it. But that's what took us up the cliff to get some breath taking views. Along the ride you'll see hundreds of flower species and vibrant colors. It's a lovely scene all the way. It builds a wonderful suspense as to what else you'll discover once youve reached the top. My first impression of the island: romantic. There isn't tons to do, except spend money if you've got it. For a milder experience, just make sure you've got a camera! And grab a snack at R. Buonocore Capri Pasticceria e Gelateria. Live in the present and absorb the charm!

Ladies taking limo ride. Yes Italian people are beautiful I'm just showing the PG ones.

Capri is one of Italy's most scenic places and a must see for its Vedute Spettacolari/Spectacular views of the Amalfi coast in Southern Italy off the coast of Naples. It's the perfect place to hold your lovers hand and take a walk or hike to enjoy heaven on earth. It's clearly a place for the rich and famous with the sheer elegance of the views, luxury shopping and resorts. When you embark off the ferry there is a flea market atmosphere with many shops and hustling for your euros so hold on to your wallets and go shopping. To enjoy the views you take a train up the mountain and wow the views are just beginning. There are high end jewelry and leather goods stores. I bought two pairs of leather shoes and a wallet. The views are magnificent and the atmosphere is breathtaking. Tips: -Get there early before the cruise ships get there. -Bring a back pack to bring your loot home. -Bring change for the rest rooms. -Bring a real camera to take pictures of the views. -Get a seat at a restaurant at the top as soon as you get off train to people watch (first come first serve). -Make sure you take a chartered boat to further enjoy the views and see the Blue Grotto. Enjoy the visit as a highly recommend Capri.

A beautiful place to spend a few hours, days, weeks or longer. If you love lemons, this place is for you. Laid back attitude with breath taking views plus the best lemon gelato on the planet. This is a must see place if you go to Italy.

Remember to take motion sickness if that is one of the problem you may have. We took a ferry to Capri island. We got the fast pass for the ferry. Which mean the ferry goes faster than the other ferry. I slept for about 40 minutes on the ferry since we had to get up early to catch the ferry. Waited in line for the bus ride and got out tickets. The guy that sells the bus ticket wasn't very nice. He spoke few English words but we were able to understand. We waited in line for 15 minutes. We went back to ask the man when will the bus come. He said we already missed it and we will have to wait 30 more minutes. Wish he would of told us this before hand. We wanted to go to Ana Capri and La Grotta but the we didn't have. We only spent half a day there and catch a ferry back to head to the next destination. The hike up wasn't as bad. The further you go up the better the view is. The water was crystal clear and cold. The scene was beautiful. After we were done, we went to the bus line so they can take us back down the island instead walking back. The bus was so full and crowded. There were no where to stand or hold yourself. I was standing almost against the door. That was scary. Especially, when they were turning sharp downhill.

In comparison to other Mediterranean islands, like Mykonos and Santorini, Capri is not my favorite but is still quite similar. After April it is insanely busy, so if you plan to go between May-September, make reservations for everything and go on the first ferry of the day if you are traveling from somewhere else. As soon as you get there, immediately take a boat to the Blue Grotto, or you could be waiting 2+ hours later in the day. The ski lift in Anacapri is well worth the £11, and the line is long but moves quickly. The view there is breathtaking! The public bus is cheap, £2-£2.50, but incredibly crowded. Overall, the island is beautiful but is very crowded and full of tourists.

Though I made that sound pretty terrifying, it seems relatively safe. As long as you're not shifting about while you're up there, which you probably wouldn't want to anyway. Seats are for single riders, unless you have a small child, in which case, they'll have to sit on your lap. Tickets are €11 one way or €14 round trip. But I can't imagine why you would buy a one way. Perhaps you can hike up/down? But I didn't see anyone doing that. It takes about 7 minutes each way, and we spent maybe 30 minutes at the top taking pictures/walking around. There is a little cafe at the top, and a toilet but it costs €1. If you want to see Capri from way up above, this is the thing to do!

Is this a tourist trap? Yes, absolutely, they know it and at every turn you are paying or tipping…read moresomeone. But, is this a must do experience? Yes, absolutely. I had to see that blue water for myself and I'm so happy I did it. Having been to Capri once before and not seeing the Blue Grotto, this trip we made sure to schedule this first thing in the morning and went with a private tour to simplify the process. Since it's popular and the grotto itself is small, there is often a long wait for your small boat to enter the cave. Especially in high season. Best advice, get there early, before it even opens at 9am otherwise you can wait 1-2 hours. That's waiting in a small boat in choppy waters! Also be aware that if the weather is bad and the water is too rough, the boats can't access the cave. We took a ferry from Sorrento to Capri then hopped on a boat that took the 25 of us over to the Blue Grotto. The ride there was about 15 minutes with beautiful views everywhere. We got there early before the cruise ship passengers and other tourists so the small boats and rowers immediately came over to us and explained the process which I will share, because if you are like me, the details matter. We sat on the edge of the larger boat and stepped down into the small boat with the help of the skipper and then immediately sat flat on the floor, legs stretched out. Each boat can hold 3 or 4 passengers based on weight,, 2 per side, and the second person sits within the legs of the first. Since we were the first boats this day, we didn't get wet but later in the day, I can imagine you will definitely be laying in water. The skipper took us over to a larger boat where you pay an entrance fee. After some discussion and showing proof that we already paid, they let us pass. Be prepared because they will try to get more money from you! The skipper then rowed us over to the cave entrance where we all had to lay flat as he grabs a metal chain attached to the inside wall of the cave and pulls the boat into the cave. It takes just a few seconds and then you can lift your head and marvel over the iridescent blue water inside. The water is as blue as the pictures, a result of the sunlight passing through an underwater cavity that shines upward creating a spellbinding blue color. It's truly one of natures miracles and wonders. The cave is small, much smaller than I envisioned. I assumed once we went through the opening it would be a large pool of water. It's not. It's a small area and there are 10 or 15 other boats and they row around in a circle. All of the skippers serenade their passengers but not in unison! It's quite an experience. It was challenging to get good pics inside. I recommend taking a video as that provided the best capture. After just a few minutes, the ride is done and you exit the cave, once again laying down. The skipper takes you back to the larger boat. This is when I got nervous wondering if I could get out without falling or tipping the boat! You step onto a wooden board that goes across the small boat, then sit on the edge of the larger and turn to bring your legs inside. Phew! Made it. The skippers are aggressive about tips but mine didn't have to be. I happily gave him $5 euros for the experience and for getting me out of the darn boat safely! So yes, it's touristy, but for me, it was a bucket list item and I'm happy I experienced it. Others in my group had been to Capri before and did the Blue Grotto so they passed and just spent more time exploring the shops and cafes. When I go back to Capri, I'll do the same as this is not something I have to experience twice.

We even saw him take a bite of the communal Parmesan cheese with the spoon from the dish (and the mother returned it to the bowl) which prompted us to not use the Parmesan. The pizzas were hot and fresh, we ordered the Davola and salsiccia e friarielii. Both were delicious but in the end, we love a tomato based pizza the best and should not have wavered. A glass of house wine was surprisingly reasonable at just 5 euro and was a standardly nice, juicy, easy to drink red. The bread was incredibly delicious. The smokiness from the wood oven made it possibly the most delicious bread I can remember eating. No butter. No olive oil. Just delicious. We would have loved to have tried a few of the pasta dishes that looked delicious, so our recommendation for a couple is to get a pizza and a pasta and share them. The salads also looked fresh and large. As many places in Italy, there a fee to sit at the restaurant and be served. 8 euro for both of us. The next day when waiting for our ferry ride, we popped into a pizzeria and grabbed another pizza diavola to go...what a let down. The pizza at buca di bacco was within a euro or two in price and 100% better. If you haven't had a good pizza in Italy and find yourself in Capri, at least grab one or two of their pizzas to go and eat them near the ocean overlook. Don't forget the chili flakes You will be quite content.
