two cups of coffee and a sandwich
    Emili A.

While staying in little rock, this was highly recommended by our wonderful Airbnb host who lived a couple of blocks down the hill. We are so glad she recommended it! Because it was the perfect spot for breakfast before heading back to the US. We got a couple of things, the medium acai bowl (easily shareable between two people), matcha latte, vanilla latte, and a breakfast sandwich. The food was very fresh and the latte was very good! The fruits were very fresh on the acai bowl. The matcha was just ok and we wished that we added a meat to the breakfast sandwich since it was missing a bit of saltiness. With that being said, everything about this is relaxed and cozy: from the interior, to the nice staff, to even the easiness of parking/accessibility from the main street. We definitely had a great time stopping by!

I've had the pleasure of visiting this establishment twice so far during COVID-19. The staff and patrons are very friendly. Tables and chairs are adequately spaced apart both indoors and outdoors (a couple of picnic tables around the corner) and clear directions inside. Not sure why the inside of the cafe became a little stuffy as time went on (we were there for about an hour) but thankfully it wasn't an overly hot day so we managed. What really impressed me was the breakfast sandwich I tried. English muffin, egg and bacon but amazingly it was very light on the oil and delicious! A welcome neighbourhood coffee place that's open and ready for takeout or dine in during the pandemic. Thank you.

Honolua breakfast sandwich with avocado and iced americano

What a cute Hawaiian themed cafe in the heart of White Rock! I wanted to mix things up after I'd been to Grounds & Greens down the street 4 days in a row, so I popped into Islands. My friend who grew up in White Rock also recommended popping in here because apparently since it's opened it's been a White Rock local staple. It's located on the corner of Johnson and Thrift, with plenty of free parking right outside. Upon entering and looking around, there is plenty of cool artwork from local artists all over the walls, Hawaiian themed decor, and plenty of seating areas socially distanced. Their menu consists of Hawaiian pastries and treats, acai bowls, and breakfast sandwiches. I opted for a black iced coffee and a a Honolua breakfast sandwich which had egg, cheese, tomatoes, sprouts, inside. To add a bit of creaminess I added avocado inside. I really, really enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. The sprouts added a nice little crunch which complimented the egg, cheese, and avocado perfectly. I'd definitely get this again. The only reason I docked a star is because I was NOT a fan of the coffee. I drink black coffee on the regular, but this one tasted extremely burnt, bitter, and powdery. It could've been that particular batch, but I unfortunately had to be on the receiving end of it. I'm definitely open to trying their coffee again in the future though. But for the meantime, I'll be sticking to their Honolua breakfast sandwiches. Yum!

Islands Cafe is a wonderful little coffee shop in White Rock at the corner of Johnston and Thrift. The staff are very friendly. I really enjoy it's Hawaiian theme. It really gives it a relax vibe, quite unlike other coffee shops in the area. Their acai bowl is absolutely delicious - very refreshing (and it's good for you which is a nice bonus). Everything they serve is very fresh. Their coffee has a nice flavor, not too strong and never burnt tasting. There is plenty of seating. There is street parking but if you're local like I am, I walk so I can pop into the surrounding shops afterwards. I like the fact that it isn't loud inside so you can easily read or carry on a conversation.

Got the breakfast sandwich ($5.95) and it was GOOD! I loved how the ingredients used were fresh and it just tasted really good! If one sandwich hadn't filled me up, I honestly would have gotten a second. I got the Moana salted caramel mocha and that was also pretty good! The latte art seemed really cool (like ocean waves). I really liked the vibe and the service was really good and our food and drinks came pretty fast (they do not operate on "aloha time", so don't be worried!). Overall, I would for sure go here again and recommend it to others.

Acai bowl 10.95 Sea salted caramel latte 4.55 When he says "hold on go take a seat I'm going to make you the tallest acai bowl ever" you know it's gonna be a good day don't you think it looks like a christmas tree ?! Especially with the strawberry tree topper LOL. it's packed full of toppings and full of acai goodness I could eat this every morning in the summer. Only thing is I know kiwi skin is good for you and all but.... I wish it was peeled

Açai Bowl and Hawaiian Sticky Bun...you yummy!

Went to Islands Cafe today for the Açai Bowl! It was AMAZING...and huge! Three of us shared an Açai Bowl and a Hawaiian Sticky Bun and we all left feeling perfectly satisfied...not overly stuffed...we had cappuccinos too of course! The toppings on the açai bowl were so pretty and yummy...granola, bananas, strawberries and coconut. They do a drizzle of honey on top of the smoothie...and because it is so cold the honey hardened and was so good! The Hawaiian Sticky Bun was a good texture...soft but a little bit chewy...just how we like it! The icing was delicious and the coconut and macadamia nuts on top just finished it off perfectly! Still have to bring my husband...he is going to love it! we are heading to Hawaii soon so we were looking for air bnb's while we ate our yummy treats and dreamed of Hawaii...one of the best places on earth so we are thankful that Islands Cafe gives us a little taste of that right close to home!

Nice little coffee shop and great addition to this end of White Rock. The atmosphere is super chill and inviting with good (not cramped) seating and fun tunes. You can get some great Hawaiian coffees as well as other drinks (they make a mean soy matcha), and an array of good offerings. They're also the only place around *currently* to get a good, authentic poke. This isn't the cheapest place around but if you're looking for a regular cup of Joe you might as well hit the Timmy's up the hill. They also have live music at night; it's not all the time and there are signs posted in store advertising dates and times. Overall this is a great hangout spot for god coffee and tasty eats.

Overall, great little cafe. We had the "Big Island" smoothie, Açai bowl, Maya Bagel and a breakfast sandwich. Açai bowl was huge despite being a small! Definitely worth the price. Although the smoothie was delicious, it was disappointing to see none of their smoothies contain vegetables or greens. I think the Big Island could have spinach in it and still have the exact same flavour, just a wee bit healthier. My sister had the breakfast sandwich and it looked amazing! The maya bagel could have used just a bit of zaatar or some other spice blend on top, but it was still good and decently priced. I will most definitely be back to try some of their hot drinks and poke!

Cute latte sleeve and Hawaiian islands theme; hence the name.

Surprised to be the first to review this cute little Hawaiian themed Cafe. It took over the Small Ritual Cafe that was always so welcoming but it opened June 1 and it's a delightful, perfect addition to the 'hood. We might not be Hawaii but with a short jaunt to one of the most beautiful scenic beaches in North America--it's a perfect theme. Since it is situated in one of the most beautiful spots in North America, just up the street from White Rock beach, a local theme would probably have been just as successful. Islands offers Maui coffee, poke bowls, Acai bowls and a few Hawaiian cookies and pastries which looked tasty. Bags of beans are on the pricey side at $24 for a small bag but to be expected since Hawaiian coffee is of the priciest in the world. My latte was fairly tasty but the medium roast coffee was a bit disappointing and nothing too special. Service was kind but a bit on the slower side. Surfboards hung in the back, surf movies played in the front and there were lots of areas to work and hang out; the little outside seating area was an added bonus. Music was festive and it just made me happy to visit on such a gorgeous BC day. While Islands still has a few kinks to work out, it's a nice change from Starbucks and BATW. I hope that it does well and I just might become a regular when visiting beloved White Rock.

    Acai bowl and coconut water

Really laid back cafe where you can grab a bite and chill. There are medium sized tables and outlets available. There were quite a few people on their laptops when I was there. I had the acai bowl and coconut water when I was there. It was my first one having acai bowl and I didn't know what to expect. It was very refreshing and had lots of coconut and granola pieces inside. And it was surprising filling enough to last me through dinner (I had this for lunch). Definitely would want to return to try the poke bowl next time. There are some parking spaces outside. Note that there's a 15 minute limit if you come at 6pm to 9pm during weekdays I believe.

Cozy little coffee shop. Beachy feel to it. They have couches and comfy chairs. The staff is great and so is their vegan protein ball.

Hello from the Other Side!!!…read more Yup ... Your GTA Yelper is out in the West Coast enjoying the beaches, the wildlife, the mountains, the oceans... Ugh. I Just want to go back HOME!!! LOL! When in VanCity, do what the natives do. Go to the BEACH! There are several beaches to go to and when finished playing sunburn roulette, one usually finds themselves famished! Hmmm... Didn't have fish'n'chips for a while. In fact, it's been like dog's years and some. AND I saw Pelican Rouge on the way in on my e-scooter (yeah... love these things). This place is housed in as one of a series of small restaurants dotting Crescent Beach. Decided to just get something to eat. 2 pieces of Halibut, Chips, and some slaw. OUCH...$42!!!! Boy it better be good! IT WAS!!! NOT! You would be proud of the serving if you were related to Captain Highliner. The pieces of fish was small - might as well have been Goldie the Goldfish on the plate. And the CHIPS - don't call it chips, would be more in line with limp fries from Harvey's (I think it's the same frozen thing). The phenomenon called pay and tip before receiving the food - thank you Covid! - really is pissing me off. I had to pay for the food and tip before even knowing what is going to be on my plate. AND when I don't like it.. what is my recourse? The fish was not good - the batter was the only highlight here. I know this area is somewhat seasonal and can be a bit touristy but seriously, tourists are human too! FML! So... for all you peeps out there thinking BC got fish down to a tee. Well let me tell you, NOT. Simple batter and fry eludes them - thank the lord they still know how to cut raw fish and serve!!! Ugh... JEERS!!!
