May 15, 2026, I ordered a crispy spicy pork that turned out to be old, overcooked, beyond dry and very chewy. There was no saving it. I immediately called that night asking for a refund on that 1/3 items; I told them all about it and they apologized. They said I could go back in for a fresh one but I moved and live too far so that was not an option. I asked if I could just have a refund but they needed me in person, which I could not do. I ultimately agreed for a simple credit because they knew me and I reminded them that I had been coming to them for years, but it would be harder for me to get to that location anytime soon. They said it would be okay! *note: I'd ordered often enough and my orders were always $70-$90+. EVERY. TIME. Many times a year. I told them I moved out and I'll take a free credit of a spicy pork but was not planning to return for at MINIMUM 3ish months maybe..but they could not give me a refund over the phone. The location was simply no longer convenient anymore but I love their quality and flavor most the time. They told me they would keep my number and note that it could be a while until I returned but they said it was okay!! I say that yet again because I was promised and reassured multiple times in this phone call back in May. I even worried it would be too long but they confirmed thrice they would give me the a new free crispy pork no problems. That was that. Fast forward to today, October 23, 2026. I call deer valley location and ask if I can order potstickers and crispy spicy pork. I remind her of my credit and she FOUND my order and told me it was written down but there were no potstickers on that order. I said yes, I'd like the credit for the spicy pork and I will happily pay for potstickers. She was confused and I had to explain a couple different ways while she ultimately said okay okay and hung up. I drive the 25 minutes over there and all she has for me are the potstickers.. I ask where the crispy spicy pork is and she said she won't give it to me. She said the previous order I had was too long ago. I told her the story yet again, but she said so many people call and complain and want free food and she doesn't believe that the food was old or that I was promised a credit. But I explained AGAIN that they had told me that it would be OK. And she still wouldn't believe me. She refused to even let me order the item again!! She refused to give me the credit that was promised. I told her I understood it had been a long time and that people try to do that. She said that the pork they gave me was not old. GASLIGHTING me to thinking I was wrong. I outright told her that they sold me old pork! And she still was shaking her head no and would not believe me. No other staff would even step in when I asked for management or the owner. One girl continued to sit people around me while I was being disrespected by this mean old lady. Eventually, I told her I even had the picture because I knew I might run into this issue having been a while. She wanted to see the picture so I showed her. I zoomed in and said LOOK. It's dry and was HORRIBLE. I even showed her a fresh one I received from the Scottsdale location in comparison to the garbage they sold me. She barely believed me after I showed her the old picture with the time date stamp, but then she said she would not give me that exact item because I would simply complain again :0. Like wut. She said she wouldn't let them make me that item and repeated herself saying "I will just complain again because they will make it wrong." I said I simply wanted a fresh one this time and she said they will still do it wrong, didn't want me to complain later. She had said I could something else but not even that item anymore. Refused even though she realized I had the proof to be right. I was pissed at this point and reluctantly said maybe I'd take a kung pao chicken? But then she started ringing me up and she was going to charge me for it!!! I said forget it. You are practicing BAD business lady. SHAME ON YOU. I said I didn't even want the food anymore because I didn't trust her and her behavior left a bad taste in my mouth. The Deer Valley location shattered and burned a bridge with a long time customer turned angry at this lady who gaslit me into thinking that I was the one in the wrong.. She had recited my own order back to me reminding me that they had written me down, for a credit? Apparently not. But she was the one that told me the date it happened. That's how I even found the picture!! But then she said she ultimately had no proof??? She was accusing me of being someone who is just lying for free food.. Wow. Nasty piece of work, lady. DO NOT RETURN TO DEER VALLEY GEORGE AND SONS!! Make the drive to the friendlier and better quality Scottsdale location.

We also ordered Lo Mein since we assumed the Chicken 65 would be smaller. With all these troubles, the food came and it was very good. The Chicken 65 was a very large starter. I thought it was very good with the exception of finding some cartilage chunks in the meat. The sweet-and-sour tofu was also very good. I am not sure why the kitchen did not have confidence in their abilities. Lo mein was just average. When it was time for the check, the waiter wanted to know if we wanted a box for the little bit of lo mein that was left and we said no so he inquired to whether or not we like the dish and offered to take it off the bill or make us something different. They've only been open for 5 months and having intelligently kept the menu tight so they can execute every item well. On this visit, we were welcomed with a warm hello! We decided to order the popcorn chicken with Thai basil, Gua Bao (now called Bao Buns on the or newest menu), spicy wontons, and green milk tea w/boba. While we were waiting, a group of Taiwanese customers entered the cafe and their conversation instantly warmed my heart. To hear Taiwanese mandarin like this was not something I had expected when I moved from SoCal to Phoenix 18 years ago. Onto the food: perfect popcorn chicken with DARK meat! Well seasoned, and not overly battered. The Gua Baos were the STARS of this visit. Soft and warm steamed bread encased perfectly braised thick pork belly slices. The addition of pickled veggies and sugared peanut powder told me the owners are DEFINITELY Taiwanese. Every bite was perfectly balanced with salty, sweety, umami flavors. The spicy wontons were good as well, although the skins seemed a little thicker than I am used to. The sauce was garlicky deliciousness. Their green milk tea was flavorful and perfect at 50% sweet, with light ice. The boba was on the larger side and probably had been sitting for a while, as they weren't as chewy they should be. Next time, will try their custard pudding add-on! I'm so happy to have stumbled upon a gathering place for Taiwanese nationals in Phoenix! So grateful for Owl Owl's presence and I hope they continue to expand their menu and keep their standards high. So flavorful and yummy. This location is also doing a deal with Orange Theory Fitness, where once you purchase 5 bowls you get one free class at OTF! I love this place and can't get enough.
