've shopped at Island Recreation in Deer Park for many years, and Frank Galatro is by far the best associate I've ever dealt with. He's incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and friendly, and he has a way of making you feel like your business really matters. It's rare to find someone who combines expertise with such genuine warmth -- Island Recreation is lucky to have him. read more

I bought a pool heater from this company for around $4,000 and it has never worked properly. I have called several times for a repair and they have never sent the correct part for the repair. I've asked to return the unit and get a refund, but they refuse. I would never go through this company for anything ever again. Now I'm stuck with a pool heater that doesn't work and I'm out $4000. read more

I went in specifically looking for a vacuum. They didn't have it do to end of season sale. I was told that the other vacuum would do the same thing. You would think the employees have tested the merchandise. After purchasing I was told I could return it in "60 days" (no exceptions) I went home used the product and what do you know it wasn't strong, it just pushed the algae around. I went to return the vacuum and was told you can't return it because it touched water. If I'm not mistaken doesn't all pool product touch water. Nontheless I wanted my money back because of the information that proved false. I was turned away and told they would not give me my money back unless the vacuum was defective. I told them it wasn't defective it's just not what I was promised. Now I'm here upset that $85 was stolen from me. read more

I just left them a good review a few weeks ago and now I must leave this review. I went back tonight to purchase a few more things and was treated SO poorly by both managers. I was spoken down to and made to feel like I was stupid by both of these arrogant managers. If you care to read more..... I pulled a pack of mesh filter basket bags off the display. It was marked $9.99. There were multiple racks of this item all marked the same so I thought I would try it. As I'm checking out the very nice girl at the register told me it was $20. I told her the sign said $9.99. She asked the manager Eric who couldn't even stop to let me explain and walked past me saying "these are new they just got put up today and we didn't have time to change the label. They are $20" so I asked the girl for a different manager because I needed to talk to someone and I didn't like how he just dismissed me. After a few minutes the manager Joe comes over. I explain to him and he was already prepared to come back at me and had the sticker from that item that he has taken off the display and proceeded to tell me that the tag says 5 pack and this pack I had clearly said 20 pack, then said the item # here (as he pointed to the sticker) doesnt match the item # of the package. Then said "anyone could have put that together" insinuating that I couldn't....my jaw dropped and I said are you calling me an idiot? He then got very nasty very defensive and very short with me. I told him to take the item off. I won't be buying it, and his reply was I already did. I asked him his name. He told me his name and then walked away and said. "Oh no Eric, someone's going to call and complain about me". I was totally shocked at the behavior of these two managers and how awful they treated a customer. Maybe they need to go back to their mother's basement and finish their game of dungeons and dragons and leave the job of working with customers to the other people that are always so helpful there! read more

I would just like to write a review about my last experience at the Deer Park location. One of the managers, Ryan F., was extremely helpful, courteous, and fair with my purchase of pool chemicals. He's friendly, very positive, and thoughtful in the care of his customers. He would make an excellent main manager because of his caring, and supportive attitude. He seemed knowledgeable, and really put forth his best effort in making me feel welcome, and comfortable in the process of purchasing the items I needed tonight. Thank you. K read more

Las week i purchased a pool cover pump from Island Recreational in Deer Park. When I went to use it it didn't work well as the pump would stick to the pool cover. I happened to be passing the store today and i went in side to ask if i could return the pump and I was told I would need a receipt. Since I was already at the store I purchased a better pump with the intention of returning the first. Later in the day when I tried to return the pump I was told that they would not take it back as pumps had a no return policy. This was not written anywhere in the store but it was in tiny little print on the receipt. They would not give me a store credit either. I feel like i was scammed. BEWARE. Make sure you ask before you buy anything here read more

This place isn't really a trust worthy business. Prices are not clearly marked and the employees sell you on "app" coupons that don't actually exist. The store has a nice supply of stuff, but the employees will hound you like care sales people. Go to a local pool place if you can. read more

Xena Moore was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I think this was the first time I was pleased enough with my pool buying experience that I am writing a review. She was the only one who came over to us and asked if we wanted help with anything and she got us a great deal on the exact pool we wanted. Xena is a great asset to your company. read more

IRA K was helpful! In and out and I got help to load up the car. Highly recommended the location on Commack Road in Deer park.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING from this company that requires a plug, electrical or anythong of the sort. If you want to buy a toy or sand fine, but forget about customer service or anything that needs to be returned. They DO NOT stand behind their products and if it fails you are screwed! Period! They make you file a warranty claim over email only but you never hear from them. There is no customer service phone number, no one to talk to, and the sales people in the stores are unable to help - even the store manager!! Nothing short of a disgrace and borders on a scam. I have been a customer of theirs for 15 years and to be treated like this is disgusting. They have lost me as a customer. read more

Service was great. When I entered the store was asked if I could help you and the worker took me to get the product I needed and explained how to use it. Then James O finished the check out He was so helpful read more

Everything will go smooth until you get to the installation . They canceled last minute on me twice and I took off work both days. Save yourself the headache and buy from someplace else. It's worth spending the extra money and avoiding the headache. The money I saved I lost by taking off work twice. read more

Drew Krautman from the Deer Park store did an amazing job!!! I have gone to this store several times and Drew has been wonderful

Do not use for installations!! I'll never use them again. Ordered a new liner with installation very early in the season and waited a few weeks for appointment. In meantime, there was a site visit and were told all is ok, even refunded a little money, not sure why. We were told to pump pool down until there is only an inch or 2 and we'd be fine. Day of installation, only 1 guy showed up, says his partner called in sick and the guy tells us there's an additional charge to pump the last inch of water. When I said they told us it was ok, he said well you can pump it the rest of way and reschedule. Didn't want to do that bc who knows when next appointment would be, so said ok. Extra $100. Then he informed us of a deck charge, which we assumed from the site visit was not an issue. Extra $300! He never even went under the deck, everything is accessible from above. So that's a ripoff. Then he put some new sand and raked it, had my husband look at it and approve. Then when installing the liner, he must've totally messed it all up because there are HUGE bumps in bottom, and pool feels about 2 inches shallower in spots, not uniform at all. It's so bumpy in some areas, I can't even move the vacuum. AND on top of all that, there are SO MANY creases in the liner which now accumulate all the bottom filth and it's hard to vacuum or clean. He also did not reattach the skimmer line or incoming water and didn't tell us that. Figured that out when refilling the pool and it wouldn't go past the skimmer. Maybe that's normal, or not, but at least mention it to the homeowner? I STRONGLY do NOT recommend Island Rec for any kind of liner installation because after complaining to friends and family, almost all of them had the same issues! Maybe a couple of pool floats or chlorine tabs, but they lost me as a big ticket customer. Only reason it's not 1 star is they actually showed up when scheduled which often isn't the case with some contractors. read more

So disappointed in using island recreational for a new pool install. Very frustrating to deal with multiple install dates, one day for the pool, separate date for filter and heat pump, very frustrating that information provided to installation team over the phone was not documented correctly, resulting in installer showing up to the job unprepared and rescheduling a week later... with no help from island recreational for a date in the same week even though it was their error that the team did not document correctly. Questioned me rudely and put the blame on me for not communicating when I did. Now I understand all the negative reviews I have read on this company, you pay for what you get.. definitely not worth the headache and back and forth. read more
