Cannot speak more highly of Island Pops and more specifically their ownership. I recently booked them to do my twins 8th bday out in Long Island which in itself is no small feat. They were timely, hospitable, welcoming to all the guests and importantly, made all the kids feel special/seen/well served haha!. They were just all around fantastic. Great flavors here! Personal favorites are the guava and passionfruit. Ovaltine is real good too, tastes just like childhood. The folks are super nice and took the time to explain all the flavors. I went there wanted a scoop of ice cream the associate told me they didn't have any scoops only in pots . While outside debating if I should throw away this tasteless milk water down Soursop called ice cream , a customer walks-in and the same associate that told me they didn't have scoops of ice cream serving it now. So happy to support my Caribbean massive! This is a Trini owned and operated ice cream parlor with a true taste of home. Flavors include Ovaltine, soursop (a popular fruit across the islands), passion fruit cake, Guinness caramel. I tried the ovaltine and I can attest that it tastes just like the real thing! More ovaltine please! Lol. But I opted for a scoop of the soursop and passion fruit cake (which had delicious bits of pound cake blended in) in a waffle cone. My friend and I chatted up two of the proprietors and we even got the try the sorrel ice pops on the house! I LOVE sorrel (a hibiscus drink very popular across the Caribbean) and the ice pop is amazing. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. Island Pops was everything I'd hoped!!! I'd been following the Island Pops Insta account for a while now, and I was SO happy to visit the store in person and taste the incredible variety of delicious, unique, Trinidad-inspired ice cream flavors. The ice cream itself is of the highest quality -- super fresh! The flavors are incredible and there's something for everyone. I wasn't familiar with some of the Trinidad classics -- like soursop, sorrel rum sorbet, and ponche de creme (seasonal holiday flavor) -- but I loved all of them and could easily eat a pint of each. I also gravitated toward the more familiar flavors in the guiness caramel, Ovaltine, and ginger beer, which were all delicious and striking in their own right. If I lived nearby, I'd be consuming the classics and checking out the seasonal flavor lineup ALL OF THE TIME. Additionally, Island Pops is stocked with Brooklyn-made Raaka hot chocolate and grab-and-go breakfast pastries. The interior is bright and trendy, and makes a great place to hang with friends over a few scoops. Yummy. I've loved every single scoop since I first walked in. That sorrel sorbet is a problem, in a great way. Omg.

I got their sorrel and rum non dairy sorbet to take home, and it was delicious. The warm spices, cloves and nutmeg and allspice, I think, are a surprising counterpoint to the cold tartness of the sorrel. I might be interpreting the flavor of rum as some of the spice, but it doesn't have an overt alcoholic taste. The owners and staff are very kind, and I know they get crowded outside on warm weekends. I wish them nothing but big future success. My only wish is that they made a sugar free option so I can eat trough size portions. read more

I was super excited to try Island Pop until I encountered bad customer service. My fist time @ island pop no greeting but still excited. Since I've never been there I asked the guy with dreads to taste 3 flavors. Once I got to 3rd try he huffed and puffed and I promised this would be my last try. His expression was lady please leave. My husband and I ordered and I ordered two of the 3 flavors I tried. The ice cream was ok it left a bad taste in my mouth. I saw the holiday flavors and order two ponce de creme with black cake, one nutmeg and one cassava pine ice cream. They were sold out so I ordered it from goldbelly. $79 for 4 pints of ice cream but I wanted to try it. The ponce de creme was a big disappointment. Flavorless. Such a waste of my money. As someone from Trinidad it hurts to make this review but I have to be fair. I've visited Island pops 4 different times. There's some hits but also misses. Firstly their sorbets are 100% especially the sorrel. However there seems to be some consistency and flavor issues with the ice cream. The first time I had the soursop, I was excited bc it tasted exactly like soursop. However I bought a pint a couple weeks later, took it home and it literally tasted like nothing. There was for sure no soursop flavor at all, maybe a hint of vanilla? It was just plain. Speaking of vanilla, I had also gotten a pint of that sadly before trying it in person and totally regretted it bc it tasted just like any old vanilla, nothing special at all and defin. not what I would call Caribbean vanilla. Some flavors are definitely great though, I still don't understand how they were able to make the Honey Roasted Peanut taste just like honey roasted peanuts! I may give them one more try but considering I live a bit far away I don't want to go again and be disappointed. I wold say it's more 3.5 stars than 3. read more

Ice cream is great, staff is courteous in-front your face but I have notice they are racial. If you tag them in your story on Instagram they would not repost you if you not black. There is literally nothing about this place that I don't like. I've tried a bunch of their offerings and each one hits. The soursop ice cream even has pieces of real soursop! Friends and I were excited to try this place and were sadden by the experience. As we were reviewing the flavors on the board we were informed that we were only allowed 2 flavors to try - which we understood. As we reviewed the board to figure out what we wanted (as the names were not listed near the ice cream themselves). Moments later another 3 customers walked in behind us, also looking at the board. At this moment , the woman assisting us informed us that we would need to be quick because there are more customers. Customers who were also looking at the board and in no rush. Less than a minute later she informed us to "wrap it up". Feeling rushed I opted for the one flavor I was actually able to try before being rushed, and my friends also displeased decided to opt out of ordering anything. Upon checking out, 1 more customer entered and she commented "ugh there's more". Extremely displeased with the customer service - or lack there of! She was clearly unable to support the customers and truly nicked the experience for us. Hope those that do go have a different experience but the ice cream couldn't even fix the experience we had. read more

Island Pops is an absolute gem! The owner, Khalid, is a really nice, genuine dude who makes everything from scratch. The menu will be expanding to include stuff like milk shakes, baked goods, coffee and tea. This is long overdue...The day is Easter Sunday, in the afternoon, warm spring day, feeling blessed and highly favored after church in the park and I'm thinking I want cake. I head over to the cake shop. Bummer, it's closed. Hmmm, I remember walking past Island Pops on my way here and as the saying goes, when one door closes another one opens. I head towards the open doors of Island Pops. I read over the menu and my mind is racing because I want EVERYTHING! reign it in, and settle on trying 3 flavors even though I was told I could sample all of them since I was the only customer there at the time. I try Ovaltine and it taste like childhood chocolaty goodness. I try the Sorrel Rum and my tastebuds start having their own Carnival because it is that darn tootin' delicious and the rest is history. My family and I were excited to discover this new addition to a rapidly improving block. Unfortunately, upon enter on a particularly hot day there was no working AC and thus even hotter inside than it was outdoors! There were only 4 available options that resembled various types of vanilla. I tried the Guinness vanilla and had a bad aftertaste in my mouth. Someone else tried the plain vanilla and said it tasted like store bought ice cream. $3 for a small wasted. The staff were kind and we are hoping it improves over time. We also hope that they start offering toppings as there were none available. read more

What a cool concept. We got the soursop and also the coffee biscuit. Soursop was really good--a mild creamy fruit flavor with a peach-like aftertaste. Coffee biscuit was nice too: biscuit in this case refers to sweet biscuits (aka cookies) found in the UK and the Commonwealth. The mild, comforting biscuit taste nicely offset the acidity of the coffee. All in all very nice ice cream and very well executed. read more
