Tubing at its finest! What a great time and a great location. Bring kids or a group of friends. It's a chill spot for pretty much any age.

Tecumseh Paddling Company - Nice places along the river

Jen and Mark were so friendly and flexible. The river was low (making for some bottom-scraping…read moreadventures), but Mark was sure to alert me to that fact before our trip. They have a variety of trips to choose from, ranging in difficulty from an easy paddle in the pond to a more advanced 5 hour trip. I will be going back next season!

This is a great place to "get your feet wet" if you are new to kayaking (sorry, had to do it!) I…read moresay that because it is an easy put-in with lots of help from the staff. Water is calm and wide-open from the launch site so you have plenty of time to get your sea legs before you set off. Excellent place for groups or families. Very affordable. Singles are $10 for one hour rental, $15 for two. Doubles are $15/20. Life jackets, complimentary! There is a much longer trip you can take, but I can't give pricing or comment since we did the shorter route. Standard disclosures and waivers must be signed. Staff give you all the low-down on the routes and what you can expect to see along the way. It was fun to paddle both open lake and river sections. On the lake we mingled with swans and lily pads, on the river we enjoyed some beautiful and quiet spots with overhanging trees and a nice, gentle current. Although this review is for the paddling company where you rent your equipment, I will add a brief note to say it is located in Indian Crossing Trails Park and there is a public, free launch in the same location. So if your friend has a kayak, but you don't, no one is left out! The park itself is a lovely location with convenient parking for kayakers bringing their own or renting.

Delhi Metropark - A river winds through it

I've been on a slow mission these past few years to visit all 13 of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks…read more I've notched 10 so far and Delhi is my least favorite. It's not a bad little park, nestled on the winding Huron River with a couple ball fields and well maintained bathrooms. But little is the operative word there. Delhi just doesn't have that Metropark feel. At just over 80 acres I knew Delhi was the runt of the Metropark litter and had my expectations set low. Both Kensington and Stony Creek sprawl for well over 4000 acres. I knew I wasn't walking into anything like that and I had something to attend to in Ann Arbor so I wasn't making a special trip for this park. Even still Delhi underwhelmed me. It might be a lovely place for a picnic or family gathering but damn, the single trail doesn't even venture into any woods! The single lane orange bridge leading here is a pleasing quaint sight, but the traffic light that lets only vehicles from one direction move through is another flashing sign that Delhi is pretty small potatoes. There is an area west of said bridge I didn't even explore, not knowing it was there, but I can tell from maps it's a lot smaller than the main chunk of the park and not enough to boost my ranking here. There is a livery for renting canoes and kayaks there, but for all I know it has a separate listing on Yelp. And it's still several amenities short of a typical Metropark. Also, good God, there was a tremendous amount of goose poop on the early July evening I visited Delhi. I mean, Mother Nature and Mother Goose will be what they'll be but anywhere near the river i. e. what little scenery this park has was a veritable minefield of gander dander. Belle Isle can have this problem after the first spring thaw but I was surprised to see the grounds of a subsidized park look like this in the middle of summer. I guess Huron-Clinton Metroparks only saves the tiniest sliver of its budget for this red headed stepchild of the chain. (I read this park was given to the chain and they obviously decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.) I'm sure there's locals that love this place but Delhi Metropark is more like Delhi micropark.

Lots of grassy areas, "real" bathrooms in a nicely separated facility though not far from the picnic tables. We took our fresh pressed cider and donuts from the Dexter Cider Mill here to eat. And then we played along the Huron River which flows gently though this part of the park though there are rapids a bit farther away. But we had nice views of the geese on the river here. There is a very nicely designed and rather unique play structure, designed as a ship, nautical themed all around. It was good for even a toddler but with adult supervision. Since it was an uncrowded weekday, no competition with older kids but I suspect it would be a very different experience when it's very full. The parking lot is large but I imagine even it will be full at certain times. It's an easy drive from Ann Arbor and a very nice part of the MetroPark system.

Our team…read morespent the afternoon kayaking along the Detroit River, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. The whole experience was super well organized -- from booking to check-in, everything ran smoothly and on time. Huge shoutout to Brad, who led our tour. He struck that perfect balance between being friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell he genuinely enjoys what he does -- he shared fun bits of Detroit history and local trivia as we paddled, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included no matter their experience level. A few of us were total beginners, and he made it easy (and fun) to get the hang of it. The route itself was beautiful -- great views of the skyline, calm water, and just enough challenge to keep things interesting. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and light activity, and a really unique way to see the city from a new angle. Would absolutely recommend Detroit River Sports for any team outing or weekday/end adventure. If you can, ask for Brad -- he made the day.

I learned a lot along the way as we stopped periodically to learn some history about Detroit and the homes we encountered on the canals. I had a blast and want to buy my own kayak!

Our first time was on a Saturday for a couple drinks and appetizers. We shared the Reuben Rings and they were so great! They're a basket of onions rings with sauerkraut, corned beef, Swiss & thousand island. They were so good we ordered them again when we stopped by a couple weekends later. The jalapeño wontons were also good. They were not spicy at all and were served with sweet chili sauce. You get 5 in an order and there were 4 of us in our party. They were good but I don't think I'd get them again. All sandwiches are served with chips otherwise fries are $3 extra. Obviously I ordered the fries but that was a bit steep of an up-charge for fries that aren't homemade (in my opinion). Their Smash Burgers are great. I ordered the Irish Fisherman on brioche instead of Texas toast. It was so tasty, I'd certainly order it again. My husband had the Mean Marauder which had bacon, spicy BBQ, jalapeños & whiskey glazed onions. It was the perfect amount of spicy. I really liked it! They do charge I think $1 for ranch was also a bit steep in my opinion and I think I wish I had been told that when asking for it. Our friend ordered the Dirty Birdie and it was pretty sad. The brioche bun was great, there were two premade (purchased frozen) chicken tenders on it that barely filled the bun, barely any onions and almost no dirty sauce to speak of. She was disappointed and didn't finish it. We should've asked if the tenders were homemade or not. We were there on a Saturday and ordered a Bloody Mary and I think it was maybe $7. It came with cheese, salami, a pickle & olives. We came on Sunday for the Bloody Mary bar and it was different than expected. You build your drink from a dry erase checklist. Spicy Vodka, salami & cheese are all an up-charge. I'd definitely say the biggest disappointment is the Bloody Mary bar that isn't a bar and you'll likely pay more for one on a Sunday than on any other given day. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean and newly renovated. The bathrooms are in rough shape! They're sort of being remodeled, I think. One had no paper towel, the other had no soap or toilet paper, one had holes in the wall and the other was 1/2 or 3/4 remodeled. I think there are 3 or 4 restrooms so I'm only speaking for the two I used since I've been there. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. I think I'll stick to beer, smash burgers and Reuben rings!!
