Finally went into the actual park and wow, it is beautiful!! I didn't realize I have driven by this lake so much on the freeway until my husband pointed it out! They have a playground (with bathrooms in the back) and the trail goes down a paved steep decline that then leads into the boardwalk path way. It is not the most stroller friendly mainly because you are dodging a TON of swan and geese poop the whole time. And it can be bumpy on some parts. But the whole pathway is pretty unique with bridges connecting it (at least 5 bridges) and there is one lookout spot you can go to. We went on a beautiful sunny and windy day and loved it!! Saw so many birds (I have never seen so many swans together before) and nests!! Lots of people fish here too. What a gem! Definitely coming back! read more

It's always such a beautiful time at North Bay! My husband and I are avid birders and have been coming here for years. The boardwalk through the wooded trails are beautiful but the real beauty is the boardwalk that goes through the lake. It is amazing! There is sooo much wildlife there, too. There are several spots with picnic tables and benches throughout the trail as well as workout equipment in different spots throughout the trails. It's a beautiful park and I highly recommend checking it out. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go and connect with nature. It's rarely crowded and had a nice boardwalk. I will say getting down to the boardwalk could be challenging for someone in a wheelchair or with mobility issues. There's a small entrance fee during the summer season and passes are available. There are bathrooms and a play scape area for kids near the parking lot. The parking lot is huge and you never have to worry about not having a space to park. There's one pavilion and there's also spots throughout the park to picnic. read more

70 degrees in February? This called for getting outside and to a nice park! Went to North Bay today for the first time, and it did not disappoint! Despite no greenery this time of year, this was a beautiful loop, largely paved or boardwalked over water. Lots of critters out today! Saw turtles sunbathing, lots of swans feeding, birds and ducks, a muskrat (I think). There's a little wooden lookout at one point on the boardwalk, and plenty of viewing spots and picnic tables throughout the trail. I'm sure this is even more nice in the spring/summer/fall. Technically it is off season, with normal park hours being dawn to 9pm Memorial Day to Labor Day, but it seemed like from a practical perspective, that just meant no staff, no fees, and not able to park directly in the park parking lot. However, there is parking before the entrance gates and plenty of other people were in the park with their dogs and kids as well. Lots of trash cans all throughout the trail too which was nice for us dog owners! Play structure for kids at the park entrance. Parking is right off 94/Huron St. The park is adjacent to the Eagle Crest Marriot and property/golf course. read more

This park is located on the edge of Ford lake with mostly paved/boardwalk style trail. The path down to the boardwalk is winding and steep. The main trail is circular and goes around the shore of the lake. Nice board walk over the bay, with an observation tower at the end. The rest of the loop is a series of pretty arched bridges connecting a sequence of narrow islands which adds beauty to this park. There is a lot of elevation with variety of up and downhill sections which allows for a great workout. Park amenities include shelters, kids play structure, playground, restrooms, bridges, plenty of benches, picnic areas, observation tower and stretching / exercise stations along the way. Lots of scenery and wild life - swans, cranes, geese, storks, ducks and willow trees. The morning walks are refreshing with a nice breeze around the lake with a distinct scenery. This is my favorite trail and I looped around most of my summer weekend mornings here. I absolutely loved watching the Sunrise and enjoyed clicking lot of pictures here. I am very much connected to this park as it has seen different phases of me. Great place to enjoy some natural beauty !! Its closed during winters, can't wait to go back once spring has bloomed. read more

This place is beautiful! Came on an early weekday morning and was surprised that there weren't many people walking around. The main "attraction", per say is the river turned mini lake with wooden bridges all around. The water is so clear, especially on a beuaitful day when the clouds and the blue sky are reflected on the water... it is absolutely gorgeous. The view is stunning everywhere you look. Takes around 30-40 minutes to walk a full circle around the park, depending on how many photos you take of course. Ypsilanti is so lucky to have this park and would recommend for an early walk if you live in the Marriott next door. read more

Some days you have to go where the road takes you and on this day ... I stumbled across North Bay Park in Ypsilanti, MI. This park is a 139 acres located on the west end of Ford Lake. It has wooden board walk, a variety of bridges and there is a dirt trail system that winds through the woods, wetlands and along the shores the lake. Since the park was within walking distance to my hotel (Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti @ Eagle Creek), I was able to enjoy 3 consecutive days of walking the parks paths all while breathing in the fresh air and enjoying its natural beauty. It is nice to have a place to go and unwind, decompress and recharge. Highly recommend. read more

Beautiful park. A great place for a run. I was pleasantly surprised by this park and the amount of nature nearby. This is definitely my new favorite trail in Ypsilanti. The running path has different exercises along the way like pull ups and push ups which is a nice option. A forewarning: there is some steeper ups and downs on the running trail. I've been going here recently, because it appears to be the best shore fishing place in the area. If you park off of Grove and walk about a half mile to the narrow walkway, you can find some peaceful fishing. Because of the distance to walk, I rarely see any other people shore fishing in the area. Due to the shallower water and driftwood, boats don't come into this area very often. The waters are filled with perch, bass, carp, and the rare catfish. The enclosed lagoon side also has a some fish in there. There are "no alcohol" signs posted along the entrance ways, but I've never had an issue with carrying in a discrete cooler. The wildlife is abundant too, included ducks, geese, swans, herons, blue jays, cardinals, orioles, squirrels, turtles, snakes, chipmunks, and toads. The only cons are that it's real close to I-94, so the traffic noises are pretty loud. The park is structured and looks real nice, but there is litter everywhere. There is also an enormous amount of geese poop covering the walkways. read more

Beautiful park in Ypsilanti township. There is a long boardwalk trail through the woods and over the water, overlook docks, workout spots throughout, and picnic tables. A spring clean up removed a dumpster of litter from the park and water, so please help keep the park clean by picking up and throwing away any litter you find. This park is too beautiful to be trashed by litter. read more

Ann Arbor's Park system is known for being a good one, but I have to say that Ypsilanti's is equally cool. Of the entire Ford Lake Park system, the North Bay Park is my absolute favorite. There are several hundred feet of asphalt walking paths, and then a boardwalk that goes out over Ford Lake. You can see Canada geese, swans, fish jumping among the lily pads, swallows, herons, and other wild life. If you go at the right time on a sunny day, you can see dozens of turtles sunning themselves on dead branches poking out of the water. It's unfortunate that some slobs litter in the park, and you can usually see some trash bobbing in the water, but I think the city makes a solid effort to keep this park up. One thing they have let go is the Parcour exercise course. You can still use parts of it, but other parts are rusting or falling apart. I mainly go there to walk and watch for wild life. Be careful of wildlife in the spring, though. In late May or early June this year, the geese were raising very young goslings, and no less than three Mama geese hissed at me as I passed by their babies. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't attack unless you were really aggressive with them, but any angry goose is no joking matter. There are also a couple of different picnic areas scattered around the park, as well as an apple orchard that has gone wild, and a pavilion that can be rented for events. Technically, there is a charge for a park pass, but it isn't enforced very often. Township residents who show proof of residency can get a free season pass. And if you park down the street and come in the Grove entrance, nobody will try to charge you for entering the park. read more

Cute little place! Loved seeing so many people fishing. Went there with my boyfriend and had a blast just walking around and interacting with the abundance of geese and ducks. (I love animals so this is a huge plus for me lol!) Not to mention, the scenery is absolutely beautiful! read more

One of the best parks i have been to in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area. The park is so wide and the trails surrounds the waters of Ford Lake. You can also go fishing here and there are so many spots to choose from since it is so wide. The trails vary from being open and some are covered in trees. There are some parts that are also up-hill and down-hill which is good for walking or running. Plenty of parking by the entrance and there is also a playground, covered area with tables and a grill i believe so u can bbq. I highly recommend this park to anyone that enjoys the beautiful views of michigan lakes. This place is a must! read more

This is a great park. I always saw the lake from the freeway, and decided to try to run there one afternoon. I felt like I wandered into a fairy land, with swans floating around, a boardwalk and a series of wooden bridges, lily pads, frogs, turtles, and a variety of colorful birds swooping around. I had my engagement photos taken here several years ago. Tonight my husband and I went for a walk there and I was reminded how much I love this park. read more

Excellent place for a slow walk to see water birds, lilies, lotus and turtles. Great blue and green herons, mute swans, geese , wood ducks, mallards, black ducks, cormorants, herring gulls and barn swallows. Touch me nots are common too. The trail connects to the park across the river so you can follow Grove street to Bridge street and visit the Hydro parks. read more

A small park that offers a great amount of diversity in environment, wildlife and experiences. North Bay Park is in an odd spot, being nestled between the Eagle's Nest Marriott and I-94. The entrance has a carpooling parking area which probably leads to massive revenue loss as you can park here and walk in to avoid paying at the gate. Inside the actual park there is a generous parking lot, which is next to a few open fields, a small pavilion and a set of playground playsets. To reach the best part of the park you need to follow a winding path down a steep incline into some surprisingly old and dense woods, from there the path emerges into the open 'wetland'-lake area which is the star attraction of the park. A nice wooden boardwalk makes a circuit though the lake, which is a small catch of water that flows along the Huron river. In the Spring and Summer the lake fills with lily pads that bloom with wonderful white flowers. The lake is also home to a large population of fish, birds, and turtles. Swifts and sparrows will flit from the boardwalk as you walk along. Geese, ducks, and swans swim along the walkway while heron and egrets will stalk a short distance out. This is a great spot for birdwatching. The water is unfortunately polluted with garbage, as the Huron flows through a long stretch of highly populated areas before reaching the park, but it is usually not more than a distraction. The lake is exposed to I-94 so be prepared to hear a moderate amount of road noise. The boardwalk is a moderate length walk, probably a good distance to take little ones, and there is some extra length to be added on if you go through the woods. There you can amuse yourself with the 'execertrail' activities which are pieces of exercise 'equipment' (monkey bars, parallel bars...ect.) with an amusingly retro 70's placard giving somewhat helpful explanations of how to not injure yourself doing various exercises. read more
