A newly paved section of Washtenaw County's Border-to-Border Trail System was opened recently running directly through this small but beautiful Metropark. For those transporting bicycles to the trail system on a car rack, the Dexter-Huron Metropark provides excellent and secure parking for those transporting bicycles on a car rack.
I was totally impressed that the new stretch of smoothly paved trail crosses the Huron River twice on two brand new bridges offering awesome views of the river flowing below.
As you leave the Metropark, heading west, you will exit the off road trail system in the city of Dexter just 50 yards from the Dexter Cider Mill...something to remember come September-October when fresh cider and warm donuts rule.
After less than a mile riding through the downtown Dexter streets, we hooked up with the off-road B2B Trail System again at Mill Creek leading directly into the popular Hudson Mills Metropark.
On the way back to our starting point, we stopped at the legendary Dexter Bakery for their uniquely baked "Pretzel Rolls" filled with either Ham & Cheese or Pepperoni & Cheese. These are killer rolls from a small town bakery that has been in business since the 1950s! Not to be missed on your bike ride through Dexter, Michigan.
Today, our bike ride linking two Metroparks totaled 20 miles out and back...our first 20-miler of the summer. The new stretch of paved trail in the Dexter-Huron Metropark is an absolute delight to experience. Try it...you'll agree it's a five star trip for sure. read more
