Ask the Community - River Town Adventures

What are the ages that can kayak? We have a four year old that would have to ride with one of us.

The tandem kayaks would be perfect. They allow for two adults and your 4 yr old.

After helping my friend load and haul her own kayak we decided that it would be more convenient renting from here than hauling your own.

Awesome time today!…read more I love that they handle large groups with ease and how friendly their staff is. We had a small hiccup with our group (a few tipped over) and they were very helpful with shuttling the ones that wanted to cut out early. I haven't peaked at their little "convenience store" for forgotten items so maybe it's already there but I would suggest adding tiny bungee cords. Someone brought two and it saved someone's bag when their kayak flipped. You guys run an awesome business. I don't understand what the poor reviews are about. This is the 2nd time I've rented with them and they've been great. We will be back..maybe to try out floatin'.

It's a pretty cool set up. You get the choice of a tube with no bottom, or a tube with a bottom. They all have head rests which is super dope! They also have long tubes for your coolers, yep your very own cooler. Beer, liquor, pop, snacks galore!!! It's very relaxing, like a little lazy river. Beautiful sky view. My kids had the absolute best time and can't stop talking about it!! We are already wanting to go back. The actual business where you start out at has changing rooms, the spot to rent your tubes, and other accessories. Things to clip on your glasses so you don't loose them and more. I can't wait to go back!!!

I've been on a slow mission these past few years to visit all 13 of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks…read more I've notched 10 so far and Delhi is my least favorite. It's not a bad little park, nestled on the winding Huron River with a couple ball fields and well maintained bathrooms. But little is the operative word there. Delhi just doesn't have that Metropark feel. At just over 80 acres I knew Delhi was the runt of the Metropark litter and had my expectations set low. Both Kensington and Stony Creek sprawl for well over 4000 acres. I knew I wasn't walking into anything like that and I had something to attend to in Ann Arbor so I wasn't making a special trip for this park. Even still Delhi underwhelmed me. It might be a lovely place for a picnic or family gathering but damn, the single trail doesn't even venture into any woods! The single lane orange bridge leading here is a pleasing quaint sight, but the traffic light that lets only vehicles from one direction move through is another flashing sign that Delhi is pretty small potatoes. There is an area west of said bridge I didn't even explore, not knowing it was there, but I can tell from maps it's a lot smaller than the main chunk of the park and not enough to boost my ranking here. There is a livery for renting canoes and kayaks there, but for all I know it has a separate listing on Yelp. And it's still several amenities short of a typical Metropark. Also, good God, there was a tremendous amount of goose poop on the early July evening I visited Delhi. I mean, Mother Nature and Mother Goose will be what they'll be but anywhere near the river i. e. what little scenery this park has was a veritable minefield of gander dander. Belle Isle can have this problem after the first spring thaw but I was surprised to see the grounds of a subsidized park look like this in the middle of summer. I guess Huron-Clinton Metroparks only saves the tiniest sliver of its budget for this red headed stepchild of the chain. (I read this park was given to the chain and they obviously decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.) I'm sure there's locals that love this place but Delhi Metropark is more like Delhi micropark.

Lots of grassy areas, "real" bathrooms in a nicely separated facility though not far from the picnic tables. We took our fresh pressed cider and donuts from the Dexter Cider Mill here to eat. And then we played along the Huron River which flows gently though this part of the park though there are rapids a bit farther away. But we had nice views of the geese on the river here. There is a very nicely designed and rather unique play structure, designed as a ship, nautical themed all around. It was good for even a toddler but with adult supervision. Since it was an uncrowded weekday, no competition with older kids but I suspect it would be a very different experience when it's very full. The parking lot is large but I imagine even it will be full at certain times. It's an easy drive from Ann Arbor and a very nice part of the MetroPark system.

Hiya folks! If you're reading this review I can make a few guesses about you that may or may not be…read moreaccurate: 1. You are looking for a place to rent a kayak. 2. You don't own your own kayak. 3. You're probably not familiar with the waterways in and around Western Michigan. 4. You're reading reviews looking for something that really speaks to you. Friend, you've found the right review for YOU! My wife, 17-year-old son and I traveled up to Grand Haven on a whim this week, never having been here before but with the specific intent of trying out kayaking. Now, I have Kayaked before...I was about 12...so 36 years ago. My city-raised son and land-locked wife had never done such a thing in their lives. So, we started looking. After reading the reviews of a few places, I was attracted to Guys for a couple of reasons: 1. I'm a sucker for a story about a guy retiring from a life and retail and opening a kayak business on the rivers he loves. 2. Another review mentioned he had a kayak that fit a large person (I am one such person). 3. He specifically mentioned river kayaking...which is perfect for a newbie who isn't experienced keeping themselves moving. After all, if you get tired of paddling, you can just let the river take you where it will. Guy runs the business out of his house, but you'll never go in...you don't need to. We met in the yard, I PayPal'd him our fee (only $25 each) and we got back in our van to follow him to the landing spot...where we left our vehicle, climbed in his van, and he took us to the launch up river. Guy knows this town, but he really knows these rivers. We got a full briefing on what to expect, how to use the equipment, how long it should take --"the river's running about 4.5mph right now...it was 6mph last week...so it'll be a longer trip unless you really paddle". He then made sure we had a dry-box for a phone and wallet (just in case) and offered my son a ball cap since he forgot his and made sure my bald head had sunscreen, which I had forgotten. Then he launched us and away we went. The trip downstream was about 2 hours, and 15 minutes in my tech-geek son-sans-cell-phone says "We really need to do this more often" the trip was already worth it. The rest of the trip downstream was idylic and so much fun. When we got to the end (Guy put out a sign for us to land), Guy himself was there and taking photos for us. He helped us out of the boats (which I needed after two hours) and we got in our van and left. Guy has made this trip worthwhile on his own with his service and hospitality, and my family had a fantastic time. I can not recommend him and his business enough! Thank's Guy!!!
