Best dive ever. Out 2 tank dive started with a double rainbow and kept getting better. Lots of turtles and colorful fish at the baby barge wreck and was excited to see eels and a 4' shark on out reef drift. I cannot say enough great things about this dive shop and their instructors. My girlfriend and I have wanted to scuba dive forever, and what better way to spend time in Oahu then to get SSI open water certified with awesome people. We chose the semi private lessons where we would get a lot of one on one time with instructors and it was incredible. We learned everything we needed to dive safely and have a great time. Our instructor Millie took us through everything and was extremely patient with some of the skills we had a hard time learning. She was fun to be around and made our entire trip to Hawaii that much better. Ed and Jake were part of our dives as well and they had a great sense of humor and made the underwater portion exciting. We felt completely safe with these expert divers who felt like friends we have known forever. They even took pictures for us and posted them for when we got home to share with our families. If you are scrolling through dive shops and deciding on where to go, this is the place you want to end up. Went on a 3 tank dive Aug 2nd 24. It was awesome. My son and I are new divers and we were a little scared. We were well taken care of and had a fantastic time. Did Baby barge, LCU and Fantasy reef. We let Marc know we wanted to see an octopus and Marc pulled us over and sure enough he found an octopus, it was so great. We are so excited to go again will be planning to dive with Island Divers each time we visit Hawaii. Saw about 20 turtles, 3 sharks, the Octopus and thousands of fish. I noticed on 2nd dive my 1st stage regulator (brought my own not a rental) was leaking a little air. I showed it to the boat captain and he said give me a sec and I'll fix it. The two dive sites are about 15 minutes after leaving the dock. Pretty sites, lots of marine life. The day we were there a bit windy which made the visibility less than normal but still a good 50+ feet. Also, LOTS of staff to help and guide the dives. All very nice too! Regular customer~~~ Pro about IDH - price is really decent. we searched for multiple places, theirs are really competitive. - friendly and trustworthy* instructors. i put a star b/c i dont think any of us were at near death experience, so idk if they'd abandon us if we were. but we came back in whole pieces, so i think they were pretty responsible for their students! - had pretty reasonable leaving time; some other places we asked we had to be there by 6am... at least here was more like 7am. - boat captains were pretty fun, some of them really knew how to feed us! - free chocolates on my first day at the shop when i was starving at 7am (not a morning person) Con about IDH - I think they could do better with their hygiene with this whole covid situation. I REALLY HAVE TO COMPLAIN about their open water training in their boss's house pool. THE POOL WATER WAS NEVER CYCLED THROUGH, OR CLEANED, OR FILTERED, OR CHANGED. We were in that filthy pool for two days!!! You could see hair, debris, random shit floating in the pool. The visibility inside the pool was soooo terrible... and the pool was soooo tiny yet they fit like 10 ppl in it! I was terribly concerned about getting covid from that standing water. so -1 star for this pool! read more

My fiance and I took a scuba tour with Big Kahuna water sports. They share an Excursion boat and gear with Island Divers. The guides with island divers were very nice and very knowledgeable. They made the experience extremely fun. The only complaint I have, is that they do not wash or decontaminate the wetsuits appropriately. After wearing my assigned wetsuit, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary until shortly after my first dive. I came out of the water, took my wetsuit off and noticed a horde of blotchy hive-like papules on my right arm. They covered the entirety of my arm from approximately midway up my forearm to midway up my bicep. It burned, itched, and honestly kind of freaked me out. I saw the first aid kit open so I grabbed the hydrocortisone cream that was on top and smeared it on the hive like bumps on my arm. I got no relief from the cream whatsoever. After a few minutes, both arms started to itch and burn even more, so I told the captain. She told me I must have been stung by a jellyfish (none of us divers had seen any and I'm kinda curious what kind of jellyfish could possibly sing me THROUGH a neoprene suit since the area was covered) then told me she had some vinegar she could spray on the bumps and that might help. At the time, I didn't think much of it.. But now, 3 days later the bumps have spread further, wider, more dense in number and are much much itchier. I also have bumps on my left arm encircling the entire circumference as well as the entirety of my right arm - wrist to just below the shoulder 360° around. It is not the least bit comfortable. I have since consulted Google and have found I have what is called "Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis" which is basically caused by bacteria chillin inside the wetsuit getting into my hair follicles. After reading several articles and medical journals, I believe the captain knew exactly what it was that I had and just didn't tell me because the quick treatment options on all websites suggest using vinegar.. exactly what she told me to do. This pretty much just pissed me off bc if you knew what was wrong, you should have just told me. I can't wait to get home in the morning to see my doctor and get some antibiotics. Oh wait.. "Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis" is antibiotic resistant and it takes weeks to get rid of on its own.. Joy. read more

Diving with Island Divers Hawaii was one of the best experiences I've had! I went with my partner who had a terrible first dive experience in 2020 but wanted to try it again. I was a certified diver doing my refresher with them. Island Divers Hawaii is the only place that had a pool session before the actual diving which helps in calming new divers down and helping them acclimate to scuba diving apparatus (and also plenty of dry jokes to ease nerves (Thanks Ed!)). After the pool session, we got on their charter and explored the South Oahu seas. It was a beautiful trip and we got to see plenty of sea life! The divemasters were friendly and fun to talk to and everyone in general was extremely professional. I would dive with Island Divers Hawaii again in the future! read more

I booked our entry course and 2 tank dive online. Best chicle of our 7 day trip here. Being an avid snorkeler, I've always wanted to actually dive. This was so amazing and worth the money x10! They train you, which is easy and simple to understand, provide all of the gear and manage and handle all of your gear on and off the boat. I was able to buy the mask and snorkel I wanted from their full shop also. I wanted the best possible mask and snorkel to add to my kit anyway. This mask provided an improved dive experience for me also. They actually take you out and you get to totally SCUBA dive down to 40ft on a reef and a volcanic crater. This is the real deal and fascinating experience. So much so that I will be getting fully dive certified right when I get home. Totally the coolest thing I've ever done; up there with AFF skydiving. The crew is great, captain of the boat is professional and the dive shop has everything. So, yes, for a couple bucks they will take you full on scuba diving for 4 hours! We had an amazing time diving with Island Divers Hawaii!! This was nine and my boyfriends first time diving after getting certified recently and we felt so comfortable and loved the crew that took us out. We saw some amazing animals and even saw a white tipped reef shark and an eagle ray which they said was pretty rare. My boyfriend had the unfortunate experience of touching an urchin and our dive leader helped to remove the spikes underwater and kept him calm and at ease until our dive was over. The crew gave us recommendations on how to help heal it quickly and by the next day he was already feeling great! We could not recommend this place enough! read more

Just finished up 3 days (6 dives). Excellent company, On land communication sometimes a little weird but not a big deal. What is important to me is the dive masters, capt, and equipment. I can't say enough about Jen and Mark. Both were laid back but extremely professional. Both capt. Matt and Jim got us on great dive sites quickly and again laid back but professional. We had a great experience learning lifelong skills with Ed, Jake, and Casey doing the 2 day open water diver certification. Our instructors were thorough, made us feel safe, and made sure we had a fun time. Scubaing for the first time is an experience I'll never forget. Even the pool sessions were fun and helped us get comfortable before trying out our skills in the open water. Each instructor was great and we appreciated learning with all of them. We saw turtles, eels, urchin, starfish, and countless fish on our dives. There were a few days where the ocean swells were too big for beginners so they were great about rescheduling. We got to know more dive instructors that way! A few tips below: If you plan on doing this "just for fun" be prepared, this is serious stuff. There's a 6 hour online portion and a written test. Pretty easy but you should definitely be ready to learn. Plan to do that before you get to the lesson days. Refresh yourself beforehand for the written test. Book your lesson days early in your trip if you are doing it while visiting because you can't predict the conditions. If you need to reschedule you can always do it on the later days of your trip. Eat! It can be tiring while you're learning so be sure to energize. There is a lunch break and the dive shop is close to restaurants, safeway for poke or even McDonalds. No need to pack lunch if you can be quick. Don't drink the night before. You don't want to be hungover while learning not to die underwater lol. If you get seasick or motion sickness take dramamine the night before. Don't wait til you're throwing up on the side of the boat to ask for medicine. Tip! The staff here works hard to be patient while teaching everyone, answering all the dummy questions, hauling all the equipment around, and looking out for you and making sure you are safe. Wherever you come from, people here not only appreciate but rely on gratuity. Scuba is not a cheap sport, don't skimp where it counts. read more

The guides were awesome very knowledgeable about the locations we dove. Prior to diving, they explained their different hand signals for the different sea life we might see so that we were aware of what it meant. They were eager to spot different sea creatures while we were on the dive we ended up seeing a white tipped reef shark, some sea turtles, some eels, spotted ray and different types of fish. Overall, it was a great dive would definitely recommend and if I was ever back in town, I would definitely dive with them again. read more

This was my first time snorkeling and I was a bit nervous. The captain of the boat was Troy and snorkel instructor was Ellie. They put my nerves to rest. Both were very skilled and caring. You can tell that they both love their jobs and are passionate about diving. The boat ride was smooth. Once in the water, Ellie took us to spots where we could see sea turtles. It was amazing. I saw sea turtles, many different fishes and had a brief glimpse of a reef shark. It was a powerful and peaceful experience. It was awe inspiring. Ellie has an incredibly knowledgeable about turtles and snorkeling locations. Her attention to the groups safety was top notch. She also taught the snorkeling group to stay 10 feet away from turtles per state law. Protecting turtles and peoples, awesome! Troy was a great captain and was very safe too. I wish I could have stayed in the water longer, I didn't want this experience to end. This company cares about the ocean and it's creatures. They care about their customers too. I have take training and classes for various sports and skills, including those are more dangerous or complicated than scuba diving. During them I have met a lot of instructors, and I have no doubt the instructors we are assigned to in Islander Hawaii is the worst I have seen yet. We had the semi-private 2 day PADI OW certificate with Alan at January 2019. For starter, Alan was the first instructor I met don't encourage questions. In fact, he is quite annoyed by them. In a lot of cases question means 'we are not paying attention' in his mind, and he explicitly stated he don't want them. I couldn't even get clarification on a question I did wrong in the quiz. And more importantly he is the kind of instructor who likes to ask you to do stuff, and just expect you do it with almost no instruction and demonstration. He couldn't even figure out the simplest thing his students was doing wrong. The first scuba skill he tried to teach me is snorkel exchange. I couldn't breath fast in my snorkel without get water in my lung. And he just simply says I am doing it wrong without tell why I was wrong. Only after he was distracted, a student who were more advanced than me told me the first step I need to do on snorkel is blow really really hard to clear it. I am thick skinned so as long as I can progress I don't care. But my girlfriend was completely terrified by his teaching style. My girlfriend haven't even seen a regulator before. But clearly Alan directly ask her to do the snorkel exchange without much instruction. Evidently in his mind anything that is simple doesn't need to be instructed. She said she had difficulty breathing through regulator and she apparently didn't know how to clear water in snorkel just like me. Instead of teaching her how he would just repeat 'you were doing it wrong'. I requested to speak with her alone, and I realize she wasn't even biting on the mouth piece correctly, and Alan wasn't even able to notice that. After few minutes when I almost get her to do the snorkel exchange, he lost his patience just rush in, and repeatedly states we don't have time all day, and ask her to switch to a private lessen. And he has only being teach her in the water for no more than 10 minutes. I am not doubting Alan's proficiency in diving. But his teaching method ruins potential student who could have graduated from classes, and in this case even intimidated them from participate in the sport. During the process my girlfriend was terrified and completely discouraged on scuba diving. She is filled with self doubt on if she could ever do it. Even she couldn't, I expect we can be properly instructed for the whole pool session we paid for, and then being assessed. After that we talked to Tim in the shop who promised partial refund. This happened in January, 9 months ago, I still haven't receive the refund. On the comparably insignificant side note, the water in the pool we used for training is really dirty and clearly don't have any sort of safety regulation. I seriously worried about I will get explosive diarrhea from drinking it. And if this is the first time you learn diving you will drink some. read more

They were also really flexible and open with suggestions on places to dive. I was so happy I got to finally dive the Sea Tiger! The crew overall was super fun as well.
