I stopped by Island Bagel Bar, which is located right down the street from Costco Wholesale, and I have to say I was a little surprised before even going in. When I looked them up, I noticed they had some really bad reviews, but once I arrived, the place was packed. The line was long, and even after I joined it, more people kept coming in behind me. That made me wonder who exactly left those reviews because it clearly seemed like a popular spot with locals. Once inside, I went over to the grill station and ordered a turkey, bacon, egg, and cheese with salt and pepper on a plain bagel, along with a bottle of water. The line moved pretty smoothly. By the time we got to the register, the cashier helping us gave us two free cookies, which was a really nice gesture. The prices weren't overwhelming, and the service was really good. Everyone working there was nice and attentive, and they got our order exactly right. The food was also really good. The bagel tasted fresh, and everything was made well. Inside, they have tables where you can sit and eat. The atmosphere felt bright, warm, and welcoming. I had a really good experience and honestly have no complaints. Based on my visit, they definitely deserve a positive review. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but mine was great. read more

Had a walk on the boardwalk and back to my fav spot. As usual They didn't disappoint. I had a ham, egg and cheese with lettuce and tomato on a roll, and my friend had a turkey bacon and cheese with coffee. All good and made in a timely fashion. New to the far rockaway area came over here because I had to run some errands and this place was near. I decided to try it out. place was empty it had maybe 2 people waiting for there order, they had 5 people behind the counter. I'm assuming there were working on online orders. I waited just to place my order like 10 mins as soon as I placed it the bacon,egg and cheese I order was done in less then 5 mins they must of just pulled it from someone else order. Food is great-- no doubt about that. Breakfast sandwiches are always high quality. It's the delivery service I would highly advise against. Never in my history of ordering food have I ever been questioned about where exactly I live within my residence and been asked about the ethnicities/religions of those within. The delivery driver who works directly for the store, frustrated by a longer wait while delivering the items than usual, entered the residence facility and allegedly heard "Jewish children" inside, which he then justified as a safety risk for himself. He told me that 'the parents of the kids could see him and claim that something was going on'-- a claim that seemed totally ridiculous to me given than no one in their right mind would report a delivery person as a safety risk to the police or otherwise. Why would anyone report some sort of safety risk from a delivery employee? Why did the fact that they were Jewish children matter? I did not find any of these questions to be relevant OR necessary to the delivery experience. In fact, I felt highly uncomfortable during his line of questioning. At the end, he exclaimed "next time, I'll keep your food". I will not be ordering delivery through their website or by calling in anymore. In-person, the experience is great. If you order for delivery, I'd recommend using Uber Eats instead. There are safety tools within the Uber Eats app that allow one to record, report and follow-up on negative experiences such as the one I described above. read more

I chose to try Island Bagel through Seamless for delivery at work. Delivery seems to be the safest way for me to try new food to avoid having my toddler running around the restaurant wreaking havoc and for time constraints when my break at work is only an hour. I got the greek omelette, a greek salad, a coffee and a wrap. I ate the greek salad and omelette on my 4 PM early bird special dinner break and the wrap which I only ate half the bread with on my 15 minute break later on that night. The coffee was decent definitely tasted a like coffee not some watered down excuse for coffee that I've gotten at various places before. The omelette was a little tangy tasting, I asked for extra cheese though so it's possible the tanginess was because of the extra feta cheese. It wasn't a bad omelette though. The wrap was decent as well. I watch my carbs so I only ate half the wrap and the insides of the other half of the wrap. Wraps in restaurants can be full of carbs so I usually ditch half the bread just in case. The salad was nice more veggies and not a ton of lettuce filler like other places do. Bagels are okay, like just about every other Long Island bagel place. Breakfast sandwiches are ok. Tbere are worse out there, certainly are many more that are better. The service is terrible. The counter can do only one thing at a time so if the customer in front of you ordered eggs you get to the counterman watch eggs cook instead of helping the next customer. If I could give this place more stars in good conscience I would, but there are just too many issues that need correcting, and management need to know about them. The fact that this is the only non-kosher bagel place in the Lawrence Cedarhurst area that makes GOOD TASTING bagels is worth half a star, the other half goes to the convenience of being able to walk around the corner to get here. My issues with this place are as follows, and it is my hope that their team can acknowledge these issues and work to change them because honestly they are all fixable if they want to put in the effort: 1) PRICES: when I get less than 6 bagels to take home, I'm either charged 90 cents or 95 cents. Sometimes I get a nickel back, sometimes a dime. Why do the prices change back and forth? We are talking pennies on the dollar here but consistency means something...Your menu says they are 90 cents per, how about uniformity with this? Problem is, it's not just take home bagels where this happens. I am regularly charged a different amount for the following items: -toasted bagel with butter and 2 eggs: $2.49, $2.51, $2.75, or $2.90. -toasted bagel with butter, 2 eggs and bacon: $3.19, $3.49, $3.75, or $3.91. Sometimes these come with a free OJ, sometimes they don't, but the thing is, their menu says it comes with a free OJ M-F before 11am - if it's Thursday at 10:30 why am I being charged and extra 50 cents for free OJ? And even still, why do the prices change based on who is making my order? Which leads to... 2) half the people behind the counter do not even acknowledge customers - no eye contact, no "thanks for your patience", no " we will be right with you". you have, at any one time, 6 people behind he counter, and only 3 of the team members actually handling orders, leads to lines out the door. Today for example, i came in and was the only person on line while 3 orders were being made. 3 team members making orders, 2 team members not doing anything, and one on their cell phone by the griddle?? By the time I gave my order in (after waiting 8-10 minutes), the line was 9 customers deep behind me. 3) no hot bagels??? With the amount of volume this place does I'm shocked that every time I ask "what bagels are hot right now" the answer is always the same: "we dont have anything hot". I mean I am pretty sure they are making bagels in-house, and I have seen dozens of bagels be brought out to the front from the back kitchen, so how is it that for years and years, this place never turns out a hot bagel fresh from the oven? The food came faster than stated which was lovely! The salad was fresh the fries were a little soggy from being in a closed container but that almost always happens with delivery. However, the order did have two errors. They forgot my salad dressing and the salad I received had iceberg lettuce i ordered romaine lettuce. They credited me the .60 for the missing dressing but it didn't help in the moment of eating a dry salad. I appreciated the credit. I live around the corner from this place so i would consider myself a regular. Friday morning i go in and order my usual bagel but today i decide on a cup of coffee. On my way to work i ate the bagel with no problem and proceeded to wash it down with my coffee. Apon the first sip it was sonthing in my mouth. I immedately pull it out and it was a ROACH!!!! of course i was horrified. Spit out and threw away the coffee... called to complain and they very nonchollantly said, no problem. Just got home. It was a bit before 5pm on a Thursday night. I WAS in the mood for a bagel with roast beef and American cheese. I happened upon this place and decided to give it a try. I thought to order my sandwich on a whole wheat everything bagel. It looked good in the basket...Well, looks can be deceiving. The bagel is rock hard... Really??? The old guy behind the counter couldn't have said that he recommended I order a different one (maybe one that was made more recently than last week)???? Further, the roast beef is that shiny, fatty kind that is hard to chew. I'm here so sad eating this, wondering to myself why this man would have sold me this poor quality food? Does he make so much money that he doesn't care if I return in the future to give him further business? Apparently not! All he cared about was the $10 he took from me.
