I rarely have good finds at JCPenney let alone this particular location. One of the only reasons I…read morego in now is because they have a Sephora inside their store. As for the women's clothing, I do think their target audience is either juniors (14-16 years old) and seniors (over 65). I never seem to really find any clothes I like here. One thing I do like is their jewelry selection. I'm looking for chokers at the moment, and they are sure hard to come around in the other stores I've gone to. Since JCpenney has a huge junior's section, I knew I could find it here. I ended up purchasing a choker/necklace set here for $24. I do think they spike the price of their items up front. I know just by looking at that price, I wasn't going to be paying that, and luckily it did turn out to be 50% off. So deals are expected here. I know department stores like this are slowing dying down, and in my opinion I don't see this particular location lasting 5-10 more years. When I go to the Galleria, I usually hit up Macy's, Von Mauer, and Belk....so I do think JCPenney has room for improvement.

It's been forever since I've been to JCPenney!…read more One of my favorite places to shop at, when I went shopping, but unfortunately, they closed all of their Hawaii Stores! Bummer! After checking out the Riverchase Galleria, I decided I was going to stop at JC Penney first! Since they appear to be one of the anchor stores, I was dropped off there by my Uber driver and walked in. The familiar feel of a JCP came back to me quickly and I walked through their large store to check out their merchandise. JCP, in my opinion, always had a great selection of quality clothing items at very good prices. Their sales were also really good, from what I last remembered. As I checked out their self-help shoe section, I noticed they had several nice pair marked down, 50 percent off! What a deal! These were for shoes that would have costed me an arm, a leg and a foot back in Hawaii! It was less than the price of an arm here! The sales here were pretty darn good, and I noticed a bunch of anxious customers standing around the sales counters, asking for "coupons." I found out they had a sale going where Sales Associates were handing out additional $10 off coupons to customers, and some of these customers were down right rude! But I also noticed how the Sales Associates were all friendly and patient with them as they dealt with their demands! After checking out their souvenir section, most of the Alabama products were on sale and with the additional discounts, worth every penney! Get it?! I opened another JCP credit card account and was given an additional 15 percent off all day shopping spree for doing that, plus, was able to get deferred billing (no interest if paid in full within a year) because I went off! Not attitude wise, but shopping-wise! An overall pleasant shopping experience here! Praises to the several Sales Associates I dealt with, who were all very pleasant and courteous, despite the demands of the impatient customers! Free ample parking in the private parking lot there and a large variety of items in-stock for you to choose from! If you're ever in Alabama, you've got to visit this place, if only to reminisce!

Returns are always easy, and the cashiers are efficient and pleasant. I do shop this location periodically. It's about a 50/50 chance on whether the stock is orderly and organized. The worst area is usually the cosmetics and accessories (to the far right in the store). If you like to dig through the additional markdowns, it's not unusual to find items broken, sampled, etc. Same for the additional mark clothing; every once in a while those racks look more like thrift racks than clearance, but once you find that diamond in the rough it can be worth it. I do wish this location got more of the special occasion pieces, but either I always miss them or they go to different Rack locations. If you've got the time, it's a great place to find great prices on everything from budget-friendly brands to designer brands.

Nordstrom Rack has discounted designer and popular high end brands that haven't sold in their Nordstrom stores. It's not uncommon to have difficulty finding assistance, finding sizes in the wrong place - specifically shoes, messy racks, clothes left in changing rooms, and a long checkout line moving at a snails pace. When shopping here I expect at least a 50% discount, but it's not uncommon to only find 25%-30% on discounted items. Even with these negatives, I've found great shoes and some clothing. I will return because I love the thrill of a good hunt!

To my surprise there was no line, no wait. I was met at the window by a friendly young man. The meds were ready and I was able to continue my errands. Easy peasy, just like I like!

I called back. I was holding on the phone.....I did this for 40+ minutes and a real live female person answered the phone and said I will be with you in just a minute...after a while....I was disconnected and transferred to no-mans land where no one would answer the phone. I called back and now10 minutes, there are once again 2 customers ahead of me. And the computer lady keeps saying she is sorry to keep me waiting! Actually, if there were a minus.....I would give a minus 100. It is sad. This used to be a vibrant store full of staff who could help you in a reasonable time. The voice mail system is terrible. The store is under staffed. You walk in there and can't find anyone except in the pharmacy. There are still 2 callers ahead of me. Actually, I have been moving my prescriptions to another pharmacy...but I missed this one. I may be holding on this phone until my next birthday ...which is in November!!! and there are still 2 callers ahead of me. It is now 26 minutes holding. And they will be with me shorly. This is not a good experience. Their staff is assisting other customers. Please pick up the phone and don't hang up on me again! There are still 2 callers ahead of me.....at 32 minutes holding. Does anybody at Walgreens care? This is so past bad customer service...I think their customer service folks all ran away. Oh yeah! One caller ahead of me. Lets see if i get disconnected again. The lady on the recorded message now has static in her voice because she has talked so much! And, my phone is running out of juice. 46 minutes on hold now. Now 51 monutes. Let's be honest; I think Birmingham only got a Saks because of the behind the scenes…read moreParisian/Proffit's/McCrae's headquarters, etc. and where some of its executives preferred to live. It was a smaller, but very nice store with a lot of offerings that couldn't be found elsewhere. I loved to shop here when my kids were young, and I knew I could always find an upscale outfit for myself when I needed. However, the selection seems to have started going downhill after the Hudson Bay acquisition in 2013. Every time I went in, there seemed to be fewer and fewer products and more open space. I think they tried to pass it off as more open space made it feel more boutique and more refined. I say it just made the store quicker to shop. The one exception was probably the Louis Vuitton shop. I don't know if it was actually independently operating within Saks or still a part of it, but it did always seem better staffed with a much better inventory than the rest of the store. My last visit was before the 2025 holidays. I went expecting to see much more inventory for the season. Instead, it was very sparse, and it didn't look like there was any more in there than at the end of a season with a few sale racks and not a lot of new merchandise. Sadly, it was announced (2/10/26) that this location will be closing along with several more under some bankruptcy/reorganization of the parent company.

On my last visit here, I got a travel size hand and body cream scent in their Mon Amor scent. Both smelled amazing and are super nourishing on my skin. I LOVE their products. The store itself is small but they have so many products. They also had a facial soap I was really interested in and reasonably priced at $14. Some of their other products were a bit pricier. The associate working there was very friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I do feel a little pressure walking in there, so you may end up spending or buying more things then you intended on. Just a heads up!

Yes, they sell French soap and hand cream and other fragrances here. But guess what? It's no more…read moreexpensive than items you'd buy at Bath & Body Works. I probably would have never ventured in here had I not received these mini L'Occitane soaps at a resort in Mexico. It's Verbena scented, French milled, pure vegetable soap. The small, square soap that I received at the resort seems to last forever and the scent is heavenly. I was pleasantly surprised how long that mini soap lasted. Anyway, I was down to my last mini bar of soap from the resort (yes, I snagged as many as the house keeper would leave for me) and I remembered this store was in The Summit. The store is 1/3 the size of Bath and Body Works, but it really doesn't need to be bigger. Honestly, I never went in the store previously because I just thought it wasn't my kind of store. But I'm glad I went in ! The soap comes in a huge, brick-like, oversized bar and also smaller squares (but bigger than the minis I received at the resort.) As soon as I walked in I told the extremely nice and helpful sales person what I was looking for and she knew immediately. She was awesome and not pushy at all. She explained the kind of soaps and what makes them different than regular soap. If you want to give something nice as a "thank you" or house-warming or host gift, take a stop in here and look around. They also have body oils, body creams and shower gels, as well as perfume. The scents aren't over-powering or cloyingly sweet because they are all made from natural, not man-made ingredients, like lavender, verbena, almond, and shea. They only have a handful of scents so you won't be overwhelmed by choices. And there is also a men's section. Now, you WILL pay a bit more for the large sizes of some items and it may seem to be a bit much for shower gel. But, because the bar soaps lasts FOREVER, so I was totally ok with buying the smaller size for $8. Sure, it's an indulgence, but why not treat yourself to something special? Next time you're walking around The Summit, check it out. It's right down from the Apple Store.
