Very busy spot. Would not recommend for a large group as they only take reservations day of which made planning a bit harder to do. Service was okay, they were definitely a bit overwhelmed and thus we didn't see our waitress a ton. Food was good, everyone loved the pepper jack hollandaise but the cornbread was very dry which was a let down. A solid spot for breakfast. Would probably come back for a 2 or 4 person outing.

Located in a historical building not too far from the Capitol building, it's about 7-10 minutes walk. It's in between buildings, so make sure to look out for the iron gate as you're walking by. Staff is attentive and welcoming. They have an online waitlist that you can join remotely for busy days. Interior is well maintained so you still see the old wooden floor, staircase, and fireplace. The portions are generous and you can choose salad / potatoes as side. The big iron breakfast sandwich has pepper inside if you like the heat

My cousin and I came here for brunch. What a wonderful experience! The Iron Gate Cafe had so much charm to it the minute you walked through the gate. It was snowing out giving the outside that wonderful snow globe effect. The inside was charming and honestly kind of reminded me being in a palace. Our server was wonderful. My cousin and I hadn't seen each other in 5 years and stayed a while just talking. We never once felt like we had to rush out. I have some unique food allergies. They were able to accommodate my dietary needs. I had a mushroom, spinach, and cheese omelet with sourdough toast. It was delicious! I highly recommend you check them out when you are in the area!

Consistently amazing! Hard to beat sitting in their patio area on a 75 degree day. Perfectly shaded area. Staff is friendly and professional, our waitress was great. Ordered a lunch special called Southern Ember. Corn cake with a fried chicken cutlet and fried egg stacked on top. Everything cooked perfectly. Side of awesome home fries, sour cream, and a flavorful drizzle. Can't beat the originality and flavors. My wife enjoyed the Harvest Bowl, daughter enjoyed the quesadilla and her friend enjoyed a ham and cheese melt. Chugged some delicious coffee from Chris' Coffee, a local roaster from Latham. Great way to celebrate the start to my daughter's college year!

Joined the waitlist at 10:10 AM. Two hours later, I was still 5th in line with a growing wait time. Turns out they won't seat you unless you're standing in the restaurant, which the waitlist never mentions. I live around the corner. Great way to spend a Sunday morning. Thanks, Iron Gate!

Excellent food! Excellent vibe! Excellent service. If we come back to Albany we will be coming back here!!!

A historic building that is preserved and serving up some great breakfast! Very interesting to look at the architecture and see how it really does look like it used to be a house. You feel that you're eating in a dining room or a living room (because at one point, it was). Food is great (not amazing), but really great! I'm not a huge eggs benedict person (I don't like mushy food), but I can tell this was good quality eggs benedict. Home fries are excellent - soft and slightly crunchy in some areas with lots of flavor. Got some kombucha to go just because.

Live in the area my entire life and went to Iron Gate for the first time, sorry I've missed it! Food was delicious, table of 5 and everyone loved everything, pancakes, omelet, sandwich, all yummy! Our server was sweet, attentive and easy to talk to, she shared some history of the building. Now, the building, absolutely beautiful! The architecture is stunning, perfectly decorated and used in a way to preserve the look of the mansion! Will definitely be back!

Welcome

Our first try turned out to be a learning lesson when Iron Gate in Albany, NY said our wait was an hour and a half- but, for future reference, we can put our name down online in their waitlist. That "next time" came, and we made it a point to return. The decorative iron gate greets you as you walk in, setting the tone for what's to come. The cozy courtyard leads you through an inviting path that gives a real sense of Iron Gate's charm, blending history with warm, welcoming vibes. With our names already on the list and a quick alert that our table was ready, we were able to finish up our errands nearby and get seated within minutes. Iron Gate's inside has rich colors, carved wood details, and chandeliers that give off the softest elegant glow. The menu offers breakfast basics and a good selection of beverages. I had the spinach+ mushroom omelette- plentiful and hearty with buttery, toasted sourdough and salad. My husband went with the namesake "Iron Gate" Benedict: smoked ham and pepper jack hollandaise over an English muffin. He added a side of fries, which were just simple. The Bellini I ordered? Perfect bubbly and peach combo. That said, the menu itself felt a little out of sync with the space. The ambiance is more elevated, but the food sticks close to simple territory. Not necessarily bad- just a bit mismatched with the style and experience. Still, the service more than made up for any of that. Trish, our server, was freaking amazing. So was the host.

The café is very small, with just four counter seats and four small tables, and it's undeniably cute inside. I was especially excited to see a vegan sandwich on the menu. After we were seated, our drink order was taken. Unfortunately, they didn't have iced coffee, lemon for tea, or any diet soda, so we settled for a regular soda and a black tea. Once our drinks were ordered, we were told we had to get up and order our food at the bar, which felt a little odd after being seated and waited on initially. I ordered the vegan sandwich, and my husband had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. The food took a while to arrive. As soon as I saw my sandwich, I knew I'd made the wrong choice. It consisted of sautéed kale, a chickpea patty, vegan cheese that looked and tasted like Velveeta, and a single slice of tomato that cost an extra $2. The sandwich was completely flavorless and honestly disappointing. My husband's biscuits and gravy weren't much better. They were so overloaded with black pepper that his nose ran through the entire meal. It's too bad some of that seasoning didn't make its way onto the vegan sandwich! When we finished, we had to get up once again to pay the bill. Overall, the service felt slow and disorganized, with an awkward mix of table service and counter service. It's a very charming little spot with plenty of potential, but the food and service both need significant improvement to create a better customer experience. Unfortunately, this isn't a place we'd be eager to return to.

On another day, I'm sure it's a fine stop on your way to Hunter Mountain (less than 3 minutes away) or Tannersville and/or Katerskill Falls. But today, I can't confidently say it was with the hour plus wait nor worth the hype it receives. Firstly, it's usually a pretty good sign (although probably not one anyone wishes for) when there's a line out the door. From making our way in line to receiving both our food and drinks, the whole process took just over an hour. The wait was in part due to the popularity, but also due to staffing at the espresso bar which consisted of one person on register and one person making all the drinks (which honestly, amazing for the man who was handling it all). However, having a third person to pull shots and flavor drinks probably could've expedited the wait significantly. The coffee shop itself is very cute and aesthetically pleasing, thus no surprise it's popular, especially among young adults which were almost exclusively (myself included) the clientele, many of which from NYC. The place was clean, with a variety of retail options and cute merchandise. Interesting to note, Fellows uses Peak Coffee for their beans, which was nice to see as a Syracuse local. In terms of menu, house made syrups are always a good sign for coffee shops, however it was disappointing to only see one fall menu item for drinks, that being a pear spiced chai, and nothing for espresso... We ordered two breakfast sandwiches (the Fellows): one plain on sourdough and the other on brioche with mushrooms in addition to a lavender latte and an apple cider. The food (prepared by an entire kitchen staff) was truly the highlight. The bread (also sold in store) was all it's hyped up to be and the ingredients tasted as fresh as they were advertised. I must admit, the $4 add on for mushrooms was well worth it. The food came out no more than 15 minutes after ordering, the drinks 10 plus additional minutes after receiving the food. Sadly, the latter was pretty mediocre with the lavender tasting like a hint at most. My friend enjoyed her cider but it was disappointing to have it come in an 8oz when the smaller size was not indicated on the menu as an advertised special. Would come back for the sandwiches if in the are, but would probably venture elsewhere for coffee if returning to the area. Cute, decent, but in retrospect not worth the wait.

You have been informed. :) I have passed The Store at Five Corners to attend my sons' sporting events for years. Today I broke down and tried it for lunch en route to a track meet. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have visited, and how disappointed I am to have wasted a decade not frequenting this place. It's a Normal Rockwell-esq, quaint and rustic colonial country store. The staff was simply outstanding. Local, authentic, attentive, personable yet professional and added to my experience (I wish I had gotten their names). They have delicious looking treats and baked goods, an array of interesting dry goods and unique drinks in a cold case - but the main focus is their breakfast and lunch sandwich, salad, and coffee menu. The list of offerings does not go on for days. It's efficient, and clearly allows them to be good at 12 things - rather than meh at 30. I ordered possibly the greatest plate of food I've ever had in Berkshire County with the white miso hummus and pickled vegetable salad. WOW. It was tasty, well proportioned and conceived, and balanced well beyond my expectations. I did add chicken at the suggestion of the staff - and even the chicken was additive. Perfectly cooked (I suspect wonderfully sous vide), tender, all natural, and tasty. I enjoyed it so much that as soon as my first plate was cleared (yes, you heard that correctly), I ordered a second!!! And, for the record, it was not due to a skimpy portion. It was due to how much I enjoyed my lunch. It's menued at $15 before chicken addition - call it $21 all in with protein and tax. So so worth it. I literally cannot wait to find an excuse to come back to *GULP* Williamstown. I believe our spring sports schedule has us back relatively soon. The staff made me promise to try the falafel next time. I certainly will (very likely with another one of these as well). Fantastic.

We have been meaning to try it since our neighbors raved about their Thanksgiving meal there last year. We entered and were immediately greeted by a basket of baguettes from Sparrowbush of Hudson at the counter. The browned crust reminded of us of our holy grail of bread from Balthazar that a guest had brought to our home 30 years ago. We've been unable to find a comparable baguette until we found one at the recently shuttered Fletcher & Lu's. We'd make monthly pilgrimages to stock up, and were saddened when our bread fix was no longer available. We snapped one up to test it out (had it for breakfast and it's glorious!) The interior is painted a warm butter yellow, the shelves house white ironstone pitchers, and baskets of wildflowers abound. Simple, but homey, yet at the same time elegant. The table settings are understated, and much like those I grew up with my grandmere from the southwest of France, who settled in the Napa Valley. My cousin Thérèse runs a restaurant in Beauregard in the Lot department that reminds me greatly of the Little Goat. We were in good hands with our server, Lennon (yes, named after THAT Lennon!) She was attentive, animated and very charming. We started with a Churchtown Dairy (Hudson) Copperwaite, local honeycomb with spelt bread appetizer that was on point. For our wine we had 4 glasses of Gamay, Coeur de la Reine, Loire, France 2023 (nice and plummy, but recommend getting a bottle rather than by the glass for a better value!) I had the Roasted Petite Filet, with Smoked Pepper Butter, Tallow-Fried Onions and Bernaise on the side. Tender, flavorful, and a generous portion that was enough for another meal. With that I had the barbecue-spiced crispy potatoes, a perfect combination. My husband had the Rigatoni Pork Ragu, Sourdough Soffrito dusted with Parmigiano. (Disclaimer: after 50 years together, if this dish is on the menu, I know he will order it. He did...and loved it, ranking it among the best he's ever had ), pairing it with Braised Romano Beans, Sofrito, and Smoked Pecorino. For dessert, we "shared" (ok, he had one bite and I devoured the rest) the Chocolate Budino,* Creme Fraiche, Oats dusted with Fleur and topped with a crisp Tuile. * A budino is what you get if a pot de crème hooked up with crème brûlée for a steamy night and had a baby! What is so charming about this restaurant is that it is so family-friendly. Several tables had babies and toddlers galore and it gave the room a welcome liveliness. Definitely not stuffy, and a welcome relief from snooty dining establishments. Kudos to Erin Winters and Taavo Somer for bringing such an extraordinary dining experience to my beloved Hudson Valley. You excel at what you do. And Five Toques to Chef Paragas...you slay!
