I don't normally go out of my way to leave bad reviews, but you need to be warned before brining your expensive garments here. First, dress shirts. They use a large press to flatten your shirt. This leaves the collar squished. This also leaves wrinkles in your shirt if they didn't lay the shirt perfectly down. Second, trench coat. I specifically asked if this place was capable of cleaning a Burberry trench coat. A large investment, for me. They said yes. They broke my belt. The buckle was completely broken. Yes, after bringing it back they tried to "fix it". If you know Burberry, you know you cannot simply buy another belt because the dye lots differ. I would never bring an article of clothing here. read more

I dropped off two sweaters to be dry cleaned. When I got them back home I saw that they had both shrunk considerably. I returned to Iris Dry Cleaners with the sweaters to complain. They acknowledged that they had shrunk and were willing to "resize" them. When I picked up the sweaters again they were terribly misshapen and no longer wearable. Iris Cleaners did not offer to refund me the price I paid for the dry cleaning or for the the price I paid for the sweaters themselves. I left a white blouse with stains and I asked before investing in cleaning if the stains were to be removed. Unfortunately I pre-paid for the service, and when the garment wax picked up the stains were still there. They didn't want to give money back so I left the garment to be redone, si after picking up for the second time time they haven't done anything on the blouse. They take your money upfront but they aren't brave and honest enough to tell you that there could be a chance that the garment will remains stained . I paid for the blouse $12.50 read more

I've been taking my husband's dress clothes here for the last six months or so. The customer service isn't great - no "hello" or "thank you" just.. "phone number." But that's fine... I took in a white dress shirt that had stains on the cuff part and asked for it to be cleaned. I was told this was not an issue, and they would be able to get them out. I pick up the shirts and the lady has me pay while she's getting the shirts off the spinner. I pay and check the shirts, just to make sure they were his.. and the stains are still there. I explained to the lady working this was supposed to be fixed and that I'd like for her to do them again for free or I'd like my money back because I'd need to take the shirt someone else to be cleaner. She said, "No, we don't give refunds." I was told her was the manager and I needed to leave. read more

I really appreciate that Iris is an environmentally friendly cleaner. But what I really like is their customer service and expertise. They find all of the spots on my clothes that need extra attention; they know how to properly press lapels and crease slacks. They do a great job with the big stuff too - - drapes. Iris Cleaners has me impressed. I was a little wary of the "wet-cleaning," having always gone with traditional dry-cleaning, but my recent thrift shop scores and a formal dress came back looking brand new, well-pressed, and completely sleek. I had one jacket of that had been through a lot, and I wasn't sure it could be saved. It was an older dinner jacket with multiple materials (velvet, satin) and a mystery brown stain. The woman at the counter told me they'd do their best, and the jacket came back looking brand-new, better than I had ever imagined. I haven't ever had any fancy alterations, but they hem pants quite nicely as well. Iris is now my go-to place for cleaning. It is a little expensive, but doesn't seem too far out of line with regular dry-cleaning. It's a bonus that the "wet-cleaning" is more environmentally friendly, too. read more

I haven't used them as a dry cleaner but I recently had a few pairs of pants shortened. They don't have a "formal" measuring area so I was led to the back of the store and changed in the bathroom (which was filled with clothes). They did have the standing block in the bathroom where the pants were measured at the bottom and held using safety pins, but only on one side. The measurements were quick and the pants were nicely hemmed. The price wasn't bad, $13 per pair. Overall, the service was great and it's a very convenient location. Staff is very friendly and they have great turnaround time. I took my pants in on a Wednesday and they were ready by Saturday. I hear they have great dry cleaning and it's "green" so I'm sure I'll use their services when the occasion arises! read more

Let's skip the part where I called out my girlfriend for not taking my suit jackets to the dry cleaners like she promised and I landed in a boatload of trouble. The point is that at 35, I had to go to the dry cleaners for the first time in my life, and I couldn't be happier with my experience at Iris. My BDGF told me about the two cleaners closest to our place that she usually used, but once I checked them out on Yelp, I got weary. I wanted superb customer service. I wanted a combination of hand holding and non-nonsense brass tacks to dissuade my dry cleaning apprehension. Then I came across Iris, and once I saw Yelp favorites Rachel, Barnaby and Mariah had given it their seals of approval, my choice was clear. So while I have no dry cleaning experience whatsoever, Iris was exactly what I wanted. Friendly, fast, all business. Minus one star because the massive wine stain on my velvet jacket was still there upon pickup, but minimized. I'm going with no one in th world would have gotten that out, and everything else looked great. My advice for dry cleaning virgins - try Iris. They make it painless AND they are environmentally friendly. Of course the best advice would be to keep your mouth shut so your girlfriend takes care of this type of thing, but we all know this isn't the last time I'll make that mistake. read more

Best cleaners I've experienced in Ann Arbor. I tried several cleaners in the area and Iris is the only one that's never ruined one of my shirts. I usually go in with at least 10 or more things at a time, and they turn it around pretty quick. It's surprisingly cheap too. Only complaint I have is small. They pleated my casual flat front khakis. Made them look kind of ridiculous. They never have before, but my last trip was the first time it happened. I'm sure if I just ask, it won't happen again. I came here a few times before to dry-clean blazers and coats. They did a good job and was pretty quick. They're expensive but fine for regular dry-clean items. The reason for this one-star review though is because they gave really poor service and mediocre quality for my wedding dress. Full story below, TL;DR at the end. 1/14/17 Sat Brought my wedding dress in for dry-cleaning and preserving (special box to prevent yellowing). I also brought in my veil and waist ribbon but decided not to clean them because of the extra charge and they weren't dirty. The usual sweet-talking lady at the front desk said the dress would take 3 weeks and costs $175, boxing is an extra $35, a total of $210. I still wanted to preserve the dress so that's fine. She offered for me to leave my veil and ribbon there to be boxed together with the dress and I agreed. Before I left, she reminded me it would be 3 weeks (the receipt printed 2/4 for pick up) and they would still call me when it's done. 2/4 Sat They had not called me but I figured I could go in anytime and it should be ready. 2/25 Sat Since they're on the other side of town, I didn't have a chance to drop in until 2/25 when I was running errands in the area. I brought in my receipt and sweet-talker lady said the dress is clean and ready. She pulled my wedding dress off the rack to confirm it was mine and started checking me out, forgetting about the box. I quickly said, "Wait, aren't you going to box it for preservation?" Then she realized she'd forgotten and also remembered the veil and ribbon was supposed to go in too. But the guy who does that was not in and he will come in Monday to do that. I said I'll find some time in the next few days to come back. Sweet-talker said, "I'm so sorry about that, honey. I'll get him to do it on Monday and we'll call you when it's ready so you don't have to come in again before it's done." Good. 2/27 Mon Again, no calls from them. I decided to give them time to keep their promise to call. 3/11 Sat Two weeks later, still no call and I was in the area for errands again. So I called and a girl confirmed it was ready and boxed. I came in, paid the sweet-talker, and she handed me a really big cardboard box. As I took it home I thought, they've been a little sloppy, maybe I should open the box to make sure it's the right dress. I got home, opened it and, yes, it was my dress. But the veil and waist ribbon were not there. I even took out the dress to make sure they weren't hiding in it. The shop was closed by then, so I had to call on Monday. 3/13 Mon AM Called in the morning. Korean lady picked up. It was hard enough to communicate because she couldn't understand English as well over the phone. But after I carefully explained the problem, she said her manager was out and would call me back at 4pm when the manager gets back. 3/14 Tue PM 5:40pm the next day and still no call back. I called again. A younger-sounding girl picked up the phone with great english. I tried my best to curb my frustration as I repeated the whole problem again. She said the same thing: She or her manager would call me back "later today or tomorrow morning." I asked if she was for sure going to call me back because the lady yesterday said the same thing and I still hadn't heard back. She was shocked and apologized, "Yes, for sure we will call you back today or latest tomorrow morning." Fine. 3/15 Wed PM 6:30pm the next day and still no call. This time it's the sweet-talker. I assume she's "the manager." I started to repeat my problem and she cut me off, "Oh yes! We have your veil. Don't worry. We're so sorry about that. It's written here in the notes to put the veil in the box with the dress but I don't know why he didn't do that. Would you like to just pick up the veil or you can bring the box back and he can put it in for you?" I wanted him to put it in the box for me (cause that's what I paid for) and asked if she also had the ribbon. She checked, confirmed the ribbon was there and said, "You can come in anytime, sweetie. Just make sure to ask for David but come in anytime." I asked, "Is David going to be in anytime during open hours?" No, he was in only while I'm at work. What about Saturday? She wouldn't be in but David would be. Lastly, I asked for a refund or at least for the boxing for such a bad experience. She agreed it was a bad experience but ask David for a discount. Hmm... Is David the manager? We'll see. 3/18 Sat Came in, asked for David. I watched him put the veil and ribbon in and asked for a refund. He seemed oblivious to the whole situation, "I don't know. I can't do that. The lady who does that is not in. Maybe next time." Well, there won't be one. TL;DR Sweet-talker lady is a sweet-talker (probably the manager) who doesn't keep her promises to call back nor make sure big jobs are done right. She is loose with her words and avoids unsatisfied customers by redirecting them to her employees who aren't empowered to resolve issues. read more

Have not had any issues with dry cleaning although it is pricey. However, NEVER take alterations here. I took two pairs of pants here to get shortened. On the first try, both pairs of pants were much too long. I took the pants back and explained that I had them altered at Iris Dry Cleaners and that they were too long and that I would like them fixed. When I went to pick up the fixed pants, I was charged $28, on top of the $28 I originally paid. I talked to the owner and she said because I did not say they were a "redo" I would need to pay. Apparently, the woman with whom I spoke on the prior visit did not understand that the pants were originally altered there. There is a language barrier as she is foreign and does not speak much English. When I explained this to the owner, she still required that I pay the additional charge. When I got home and tried on the now twice-altered pants, one pair was way too short, showing close to an inch between the bottom of the pants and the start of my shoes. I again went back to Iris Dry Cleaners and spoke to the owner. She told me the pants I brought were not the ones that she altered and said she would not fix the pants without an additional charge. So I am out $56 for one pair of pants that fits and one that I will need to get fixed at another shop. Disappointed with my experience and will never go back to Iris Dry Cleaners. read more

Used to really like this place after the one in the Colonnade abruptly closed. Something has changed. The service is poor and I've had several things come back torn or faded. They do not do down jackets properly. My very bright down vest came back faded and the shiny finish is now matte and dull. When I've tried to speak to someone, they really turn on the "language barrier". Not sure if there are new owners now, but with poor quality dry cleaning and the prices, the easy location is no longer worth it. If you use Iris, I suggest photographing you're items first. read more

I sent them a very expensive jacket and asked them to protect it during cleaning (I have extensive experience working in a dry cleaner and aware of the process). I was very upset that the stitching was ruined and a button was ripped off the jacket. This was not cleaned as I asked. I am very upset and will not come back. read more

Iris is slightly more expensive than other area dry-cleaners, however I've never had a problem with having shirts and suits when getting them cleaned. They have a reasonable turn-around time and have never ruined any garments, so I'm a happy customer! read more

Pricey but pretty standard compared to all the other Ann Arbor dry cleaners I've shopped around -- this ended up costing $17 for 3 pairs of dress slacks (5.20 plus tax I believe- not great at mental math). This was recommended by a guy friend of mine who is similar in pickiness and savvy-ness! Dropped off on Thursday, was able to preference pickup for Friday at 5 pm. I was told no discounts unless you're a firefighter/police/similar profession on 9/11. I think I will still plan to try Martinizing for half off pant Wednesdays and compare quality/price. Tried to also drop some pants at State St. Cleaners which my boss likes but they were too hard to access with all the construction on the south side during rush hours. Will report back. read more

Needed a bunch of men's dress shirts and one pair of pant PRESSED ONLY ! I dropped it off 5 days in advance asked for a early am pickup which the guy upon drop off said no problem , when I arrived it wasn't done and the same guy who took my order was the one who told me I need to read my tag correctly it's for after 4pm and they close at 6! I asked if he remembers me requesting a early time and he said he forgot ( mind you these are my uncles clothes who's leaving for a business trip) This is the same man that when I requested LIGHT STARCH upon drop off he said no and when I asked him why he said that all he said was because I say no! Took my lunch break later that day to go back and pick them up and I was absolutely shocked at what a terrible job at pressing they did! All the shirts were wrinkled more than when I dropped them off and the pants looked just as bad, when I asked him what was even done he said he cleaned them which is definitely not what I asked for because I emphasized I washed them already! He than argued with me that I asked for cleaning and not pressing yet my tag said press only! And besides that if I did have it cleaned it should also be pressed! I paid $50.00 for a shitty job of pressing and horrible customer service I would've been better off doing them myself at home! I will never go back read more

Not only did they do a fantastic job cleaning my wedding dress and my husbands wedding suit, but when I dropped said suit in the parking lot on my way to my car and then stepped on it (um, oops) the owner rushed outside and insisted I let her take it back in and remove the Croc print from the jacket. Not only that, but she's really community minded. One of her clients is showing art in the store, and when I commented on it, she made a point to tell me the painter's story and give me her business card. Great, local dry cleaners. I've lived in Ann Arbor on and off again for the last 10 years. I've tried several dry cleaners and this is now my go to place. I had a pair of pants that were stained pretty bad from some chicken grease. I tried everything I could to get it out on my own, but nothing worked. Took it to Iris and they got it right out. Not only did they get my stain out but they were the nicest people to deal with. Super friendly, it felt like I had been going there for years. I had a brand new dress with two stains on it that I missed at the store, but did not have time to go and find another dress plus I loved the dress, I took it to this cleaners and made sure o tell the girl in the front if you guys cannot do this dress do not take it, 2 days later I go to pick the dress up and its ruined it had bled it went from orange to blue the beading and sowing had come off completely ruinedddddd. And the owner is rude and a liar, saying she cant deal with this rght now because she has to go to her country, very inprofessional. It has been 3 months and now she tells me come get the dress because its fixed what you cannot be serious, I do not need the dress anymore the wedding was 3 months ago!!!!!!!! Screwed up alteration for my pants and continued to insist regarding charged me for it... No sympathy at all for screwing up the alteration.

I took a plain off white silk dress (no decorations, no fine details or lace, just a plain white summer dress with shoulder straps etc) and the woman at the counter insisted that it was a wedding dress and wanted to charge me $180 for dry cleaning! I had called before I came and asked what the price was and she said something around $12 (still more expensive than the other places in town but definitely more reasonable than $180) I told her it was not a wedding dress and she said she would have to speak with her manager/who would be in in a few hours. Incidentally I had 2 dresses, the other was almost the exact same style, but in a coral color. I decided to take my dress to State cleaners instead where they dry cleaned both for $20 with no problems or accusations. read more

While the quality of the dry cleaning and alterations I have had done has been perfectly satisfactory and well-priced, I will not go back to Iris. I had taken my coat in to have the lining repaired, and upon picking it up, I realized that they missed a spot. When I returned to have the alteration completed, there was no apology for the mistake. When I picked up the coat a week later, they tried to charge me for the alteration. This is also the second episode in which I brought alterations in and had to return the piece of clothing to have the desired change completed. read more

I dropped off four suits and was overall happy with the outcome. Some of the reviews said this place was too pricey...not the case here. I found the prices reasonable. If you have a specific stain for them to work on, make sure you specify. I forgot to tell them about an oil stain on one of the pant legs and it did not come out with the normal wash. read more

I would have given zero stars if I could. I had a work party last night and had bought a Robert Rodriguez dress to wear for it. I had never worn it, but it had a few wrinkles and I had been given the recommendation of Iris Cleaners. I had been told they know how to handle delicate materials. I am not sure what they did at first to the gown to get out the wrinkles, but they either pressed it or ironed (!!!) it and it had for more wrinkles then it had when I brought it in. It is an intricate design and taking an iron or pressing it should have never happened. Not to mention, it appears the material had stretched when they had done this and does not look right at all. The girl at the desk swiped my card as she was handing it to me and after I looked it over I told them it is unacceptable. It looked 5 x worse after I brought it in then before. First of all, a professional cleaner should have looked over the gown prior to doing anything to it. If it looked too challenging for them, they should have told me so and I would've taken it somewhere else. Then the girl in the back brought me back there to show there was nothing she could do as she was placing an iron on it!!!!!!!! I tried steaming it out, but after they placed on iron on it, the intricate laters and stitching resulted in wrinkles everywhere. I asked to see the owner, but she was not there and they gave me her card. I called a few times, but there was no answer. Also, as I was leaving, the girl wanted me to sign the check to pay for the mess that they made of my designer dress. I refused. She even admitted it looked wrinkled, but said the problem was the fabric. Well, the problem is they do not know how to take care of the fabric. I hope that the dress is not ruined now. I will have to take it somewhere else to see if it can be fixed. I looks like their careless ironing may have stretched out the fabric. They may do an ok job with doing shirts and pants, but don't take anything of value there. read more

I have been a customer here for years. Recently I took a men's jacket for cleaning and when I brought it home it had shrunk. Don't even ask me how that happens. When I took back the jacket to explain , a very nice women gave me a form, and told me to fill it out, bring back the jacket and a receipt once I had replaced the Jacket. Returned today to the cleaners with all paperwork filled out and my receipt. The manager, basically took no responsibility for ruining the jacket, made some excuse about the machines they use and how come only our jacket had an issue, and then insulted my by telling me I was a brand new customer of the cleaners. Give me a break. Didn't own any error. Didn't want to provide a credit as I was originally told. I don't care how great a job they have done in the past, you just don't treat customers this way. read more

I took one suit, two sport coats for dry cleaning and two more shirts for laundering. They did the expected job at the expected level of service on the dry cleaning. The launder and press was really a waste of money. They did not launder ( since it still smells dirty) nor did they press which I asked for with heavy starch so I think I would notice. I was also a little unpleasantly surprised on their cost which was above what I paid in California. For the 6 items mentioned above it was around $35 which I felt was a bit high. As far as I can tell the ironing is straight, on the ones they actually managed to iron,which is more than some other local cleaners can muster, but that's to be expected.They seem to always quote a day or more later than they actually need and you can always say you will be in earlier. I will probably be back, but entirely because of location and their ability to not mess things up. read more

Here's a mythbuster and review. Did you know that "dry cleaning" uses liquid? The wet cleaning term is really just a way to differentiate two methods of professional cleaning. Traditional dry cleaning methods use perchloroethyline, also known as 'perc', a highly toxic chemical that is bad for your clothes and the environment. Perc can seep through concrete and get into groundwater. The vapors from it are also toxic. It's really, really bad and in my opinion should have been banned by now. Wet cleaning is more gentle on your clothes, doesn't leave that gross, off-gas chemical smell and again, is safer for all of us, especially for those working in the industry http://www.osha.gov/dsg/guidance/perc.html. It's more expensive because it requires more labor and different machines. Iris was mostly hit, sometimes miss for me. They were doing great work but then when I picked up some clothes one day, the work was shoddy on some items. They didn't handle the situation well at all so now I go to Snedicors--they pick up and deliver to Ann Arbor and they are a GreenEarth garmet care service. After some bad experiences with a cheaper dry cleaners that was closer to my house, I switched to Iris a couple years ago. I go to the dry cleaners once or twice a month, which I've learned is fairly often (I've recently discovered some of my friends don't believe in dry cleaning, but that's another story), and I've always had great results from Iris. Notably, they've gotten some pretty horrendous stains out of silk and other delicate fabrics on which my clumsiness has wreaked havoc. I've also used them to do some minor tailoring, patching up a tear here and there, and they do a great job pretty quickly, usually within a week. Iris does wet cleaning. This means your clothes turn out sparkling clean, just like they would with dry cleaning, but the whole process is much easier on the environment. This is a good thing, right?
