My partner had lunch here today while they were vending at the Holiday Market. He got the chicken and rice plate and it was delicious. The rice was so flavorful and soft and the chicken was melt in your mouth and juicy. The cost was very reasonable and the people working the booth were friendly. Since we were at the fairgrounds we had to look hard for a place to sit, but it may be different at their other locations. I definitely plan on getting a plate from these folks next time I'm at the Saturday market. It was so so good and I can't stop thinking about it. read more

We ventured out on a rainy Sunday evening, our first time trying this cart. The two folks working were incredibly kind and helpful, giving us some insight on spice levels and such. I had the brown stew, which was the PERFECT meal for the weather. So comforting and warmed the soul. My husband got the jerk chicken, nice heat without being too much for him. It was still juicy and I loved the bite he shared. We shared the plantains, though I ate more than half because they were so darn delicious. I was worried they'd be too sweet but they weren't. And my husband got the cornbread muffin which was a hit, the flavor was just different enough to let you know it wasn't your grandma's recipe, but one that improved on an old standard. The only thing that was missing was some butter to slather on. We ate inside the Thinking Tree café and had a beverage. The good folks at Irie brought us our food and we had to bring a bit home, so the portions were large. We both recommend this wonderful cart! read more

We have been hitting this cart on Thursday nights at the Thinking Tree Spirits parking lot. This food is pure magic. I'm working my way through the menu so i can only comment on 4 item so far. But check back because I plan to eat it all. At the base of every meal is their signature rice and beans (mostly rice) that is addictively delicious. Even the little dab of cooked cabbage which has a slightly sweet note to it is perfect. Goat Curry: fall off the bone richness. And yes there are a few bones but that adds to the finger licking good savory saucey experience. Chicken Curry: a delicate flavor of tender chicken pieces with potatoes in a not too rich sauce. This is a good "go-to" for anyone's first visit. Jerk chicken : wow! Not to be missed. There's just enough spice and char to transcend you to Jamaica. The sauce on the side is gorgeous. Sweet Fried Plantains: I've never had anything so sweet, slightly sticky (in a good way) and flavorful. Great as an accompaniment to all of their items or by themselves. I promise to take some photos next time. But it doesn't occur to me until after I've already devoured everything. read more

Really, really good. We ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken meal, brown stew meal, and the fried plantains (a must!). Portions are HUGE and we had quite a bit of rice leftover for later, which I'm not complaining about. ;) The brown stew is amazing--super tender chicken and bursting with flavor. Highly recommend that dish. I found the jerk chicken (served drumstick + thigh) to be a bit dry, however, spiced well. I'm not sure if it was the chicken itself or the sauce it comes with, but something was packing a lot of heat...in a good way, but it might be a bit much if you are sensitive to spiciness. Irie doesn't have the Sorrel drink on their menu currently, which I was a bit sad about since I really wanted to try it. Hopefully, it comes back! We stopped by right at the lunch hour on a weekday so we had to wait a bit for our order. Irie does offer online ordering through their website, which seemed to be the trend as we watched multiple people just walking up to pick up rather than order at the window and wait. Fortunately, it was nice weather out so we could hang out by the fountain while we waited and didn't mind. I've never had Jamaican food before and all I have is just one word...plantains! Ok, maybe three...plantains, sorrel, and brown stew tofu! Oh wait, that's six words...anyways, I have many nice words to say about this small family owned food cart currently located at 8th & Oak. I've been wanted to try Irie for a while now, but as a vegetarian the meal options for me were limited. That is until this week when they added Brown Stew Tofu to their menu. I saw that and I immediately hopped into my car to finally order some takeout. The sweet ripe plantains may be the most heavenly thing I have ever eaten. The soft texture is so satisfying combined with the subtle sweetness from the caramelization of the plantain. I could eat these everyday of my life if I could. Jamaican Sorrel is a type of punch that is made from dried hibiscus flowers and Irie adds a little ginger to theirs to give it a nice little kick. It's a very well balanced beverage with it being sweet enough to tone down the tartness of the hibiscus but not sweet enough to feel like a heavy sugary juice drink. Thank you so much for adding the Brown Stew Tofu. I loved the texture of the tofu and it perfectly absorbed all the wonderful and flavorful seasoning and spices. A great addition for sure. I will be returning here and I can't wait to try the Ackee dish. I heard Ackee is awesome. read more

Irie is fantastic, and has only gotten even better since they opened. The spicy patties are a favorite, and the sweet fried plantains are excellent, as is the sorrel drink. The jerk chicken is flavorful and delicious, and they included a little cup of sauce that took it over the top. One of my favorite though is the brown stew chicken- so so good! I've only had Jamaican food a few times so when I saw there's Irie serving up authentic Jamaican food from her little food trailer I had to stop by and sample some of the food. The Jerk Chicken I ordered was beautifully seasoned, grilled, and succulent. There's a little bit of heat to it too. The rice and beans and the tangy slaw were perfect compliments to the chicken. I would rate this zero stars if I could because it was a complete waste of time. The head chef was completely unprepared and didn't start cooking rice until they were completely out. Our wait time was well over an hour and we missed some major events at the world track championships because of it. Overall I recommend eating here. I ordered the Jerk chicken plate with rice & peas(beans). It came with steamed cabbage and a jerk bbq sauce on the side. The jerk chicken itself was fantastic and had a good spice level. I really liked the steam cabbage but the jerk bbq sauce was epic. The rice and peas were just okay because they were a little dry and might have been sitting for a while. Also the price was reasonable at $8.50. I will definitely be back to try more. read more

I heard about the grand opening of IRIE when I was out of town. I was very skeptical because I'm from Jamaica and have been in the area almost 17 years and have not tasted good Jamaican food unless I cook or my mom is visiting. Today I stopped and got food on my way home. I am happy to say I know where I'm going when I want a taste of home and don't feel like cooking. Friendly service and great food. After reading the reviews, specifically the ones that critiqued value or food portion size I was surprised to see how much food they gave for a $9.50 meal. I'm not sure what kind of person would not before from two pieces of chicken two scoops of rice and a scoop of cabbage, but my husband was full and I had leftovers. Will definitely go back. This is a new food cart. Food is amazing. Portions size good. Flavors are bursting and hot. Don"t fear the heat! My favorite was the meat pie.
