Tried a few sides today, and they were awesome! The mac and cheese was rich, the plantains were perfectly caramelized, and the cornbread muffins were fire. Loved the cool vibe of the restaurant--can't wait to come back for more! read more

The menu is simple, which I like. It's buffet style ordering and there's plenty of seating. The guys that worked there were super sweet and amazing. - And speaking as someone with food experience and common sense, if you see someone is by themself and they're doing an online order and your order and there's a line, don't be a bitch. It doesn't make your food get in your mouth any faster, so shut it. - I got the Buddha vegetable plate and it was good, I needed to add sauce to it though and the cabbage was a little salty, which I wasn't complaining about but my mom was because she's sensitive to salt. So, just wanted to add that in there for certain folks! read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. I was in the area and decided to stop for a late lunch. They did not disappoint! The restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly, and the food was so good. The spices are all there and I cannot wait to come back. Oxtail will be the next thing I get. Everything about this place is awesome. From the second you pull up to the restaurant, you know it's going to be a good time. The vibe, the decor, the flavor, the service-- all stellar. My husband got a "box" and I got a "bowl". The difference being portion size and amount of items. I HIGHLY recommend the stewed chicken, mango salsa, and cilantro sauce. The corn muffins are like a vanilla corn cupcake. We had a blast and loved every bite. Hopeful to be able to come back if we are ever in town again! read more

We had fun eating here! Food is seasoned well and leaves a taste explosion in the mouth, mon! Go for the jerk wings! Very tender & flavorful. Loved them! My family enjoyed their meals too. Nice relaxing atmosphere. If you've never been here before, you order at the counter, by selecting proteins and veggies. You basically build your own meal by letting the employees know what you want in your box or bowl. The person working was super friendly and helpful. They did a great job answering our questions. read more

I'll start off by saying that the food was quite good. I got a chicken stew bowl with standard toppings and my girlfriend had the beef stew bowl. The beef patty was all right too, better than some but not like the ones at the bodegas in NYC. The additional toppings such as cheese, cucumber salad, sauces, etc. were all $1.25 each! They also will charge you for a water cup, $2.50 a piece! We ended splitting a water bottle for $1.50. The server was nice and answered all of our questions. The decor is unique and makes for a fun experience. read more

This was my second visit, and I was even happier with the food than on my first! They've changed some things, I felt like I had more options, and they gave me more of a variety of things in my box. I like that I got to try more sides and sauces. It was about $12 for the "box", and I got two proteins, two bases, and a variety of toppings and sauces. Everything was delicious and flavorful! Will be back soon! read more

How to distribute salt: HIGH and WIDE. Whew. The plain rice was so salty, which makes no sense if the cook tastes what they make. The bowls are more than 50% rice. So, clearly the rice has meaning. My plantains were burnt as you can see in the picture (burnt vs caramelized). It was a below average experience. I gave 2 stars for my two awesome previous visits. Additionally, other businesses on the same strip were BUSY and sadly Irie is empty. I want y'all to do well and survive in Highland Square. Yet it appears that quality control has become lax. The food here was really good. But only two people working made service really slow. I would go back.

At dinner time they were out of corn bread and Mac and cheese. The kid working just bagged our food up didn't ask if we were dining in. Then after taking my money I had to go back up to ask for our food. I had to go back in a second time to ask for utensils. We weren't given napkins. I asked for plantains, he gave me cabbage, which I can not eat. The jersey chicken though was delicious. 8/24/24 6:30 pm read more

We ordered the brown stew chicken and jerk chicken box with a side order of brown stew chicken....i noticed small clear hair like fibers in the side order so I started digging through the chicken in my box and also found the same thing.....We were not able to eat the chicken or feed it to our child, due to there being plastic fiber like strings in our food.. they almost remind you of the grill brush bristles you would use to wipe the sauce on grilled foods... The strings are clear and you cant break them in half or bite through them..... it also looks and feels like plastic string. We ended up not eating it and just getting food from somewhere else, Which sucked because I was really excited about this place. I tried to call the location and get a refund or maybe try something else, but no one is answering the phone. I rinsed off the plastic strings I found in my food and put them aside to bring up there later and show the manger or at least try to find out what these are. This is not good at all. read more

Me and my boyfriend both got oxtail boxes. The rice was dry and tasteless. The worst oxtails I have ever ate no flavor tough very tiny and it was $58 The Worst $58 I ever spent and the thing is as we were sitting trying to eat our $58 trashy meal both employees were sitting there eating meals Very unprofessional finally went to the restroom to wash my hands and get ready to leave and there wasn't even soap to wash my hands. Irie Jamaican Kitchen - 20 minutes on hold and no one has checked back yet. - Caribbean Near Me - Akron, Ohio

My husband and I had to go to downtown Akron and decided to check out this location of Irie. We have only been to the original E. 185th location previously, a number of times. We were so excited to get some Irie as we're about 30 minutes from this location and 45 or so from the Cleveland one. The actual dining space is really nice. It's large and bright, though it seems more like a tourist spot than anything authentically Jamaican. Not really a negative just an opinion. We were able to each order our boxes with what we normally get. We were both fairly disappointed. They only had curry chicken patties and no beef. The chicken that we got, and even the cabbage, tasted completely different that what we've had from Cleveland. The jerk was quite mild as opposed to deliciously spicy. We ordered banana pudding. I wish there were more wafers as it really was just pudding with some plantain in the bottom. I wasn't a fan of the flavor of the pudding and I had a nice sized hair in it. We didn't end up telling the young lady working with the pink braids. She had enough going on and what could really be done at that point anyway. We love Irie and are happy to support, but aren't likely to come back to this location. read more

The first time I came here I didn't really like it because I had to get rice and I didn't want any rice. Then I paid for a full meal but I didn't really get much food. They have since changed this. Now you can get all cabbage instead of any rice or mac & cheese if you like that. It's very much set up like a chipotle. Pick your base pick your toppings. They have fried bananas which I love as a dessert and pudding. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like yet. Curry chicken is my favorite. However, I like the cajun rub quite a bit too. You can eat pretty healthy here similar to chipotle depending on your choices, get cabbage instead of rice, chicken instead of beef etc. They have some really great toppings like fresh mango, fresh tomatoes, guacamole. Check them out. read more

First time visiting. The staff was so welcoming and helpful, the food was amazing, and the vibe was so fun!

Deliciously caramelized roasted plaintains. The cabbage was so salty I couldn't eat it and I don't believe I've ever complained of a food being too salty on a Yelp review after hundreds of them. The rice was well-cooked and moist, the jerk chicken was spicy and not dry but not super moist (it was sadly cut into a bunch of small chunks like a toddler meal). Decent overall to try but I'd have to try more of the menu to make a final determination on whether I'd be a regular. read more

Since the Jamaican spot in downtown Akron closed, I was eager to try this establishment. I kept seeing advertisements on FB so a evening hanging out with the guys led to a random trip to check this place out. Not knowing what to expect, this is setup like Chipotle. The ordering seems to go you get a bowl or a box and then follow steps 1-4? The staff seemed like they hit the gonja one to many times. As the food slid down the assembly line, if you didn't tell them what you wanted, they just stared at you. This was my first time here so it's not like I'm going to breeze through it. Step 3 seemed like it was skipped altogether and it went straight to 4 but I told the guy what I wanted in step 3 so he came back to add it. Is step 3 not part of the experience? I could be wrong here. My order was the oxtail Jamaican box with plantains, cabbage, and the Buddha veggies topped off with the fire sauce. Damage was a whopping $25 and I was shocked at the final price. Imagine spending that much at Chipotle for one person. Food was pretty good overall but the box is supposed to come with 2 sides and I guess the only sides you can get is the cabbage and plantains. I saw on their scrolling screen there were various other sides but like I said, the workers didn't seem to be there mentally. It's almost like they were in the sunken place. Again, food was good and plentiful but just crazy expensive in my opinion. My buddy got the jerk chicken and it was pretty flavorful. My nephew ordered a banana pudding and said it's the best he's had so food wise it overall pretty good. I don't think I'd make this a frequent stop but it's definitely worth trying if you're bored of everything else. To be fair, it is a bit out of my way though and I hope they stick around. read more

Very good jerk chicken. Place was very clean. People were very nice and I might add meat. Pies were pretty good.

Where's the flavor?! When this place first opened the food had flavor - authentic Caribbean spices were used to prepare the food. Now it seems as if the food has been watered down. It is so very bland and tasteless. What happened? I wonder if the authentic spices and seasonings were too much for the locals. I've given the food a try three times since spices were removed thinking maybe it was just a bad chef day. But I think they will continue to compromise on good flavor to accommodate their patrons. Very sad. I am giving two stars for the wonder atmosphere, location, must and excellent customer service from staff! read more

Irie Jamaican Kitchen taught me the meaning of "Jamaican infused" cuisine. It's not authentic, simply inspired by the culture. I ordered the jerk chicken bowl w/rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains. I was pleasantly surprised by the sides but that's about it. The chicken tasted no where near authentic jerk. I'd suggest you get extra jerk sauce on your meat. Overall, was a bit pricey and my meal wasn't memorable so I probably won't visit again. -@CokeeEats read more

Just like Chipotle but with traditional Jamaican cuisine! 10/10, would recommend, although the line can be long some times.

Second order in a row messed up. No Jamaican hot sauce. I ordered double chicken as a side with rice. Got rice, no chicken. Whoever answered the phone said he was aware of the chicken (???) but I would have to come get it! Nothing else. Doordash wont refund and this restaurant takes no responsibility. Stay far away!
