    First training session
    Alex D.

I adopted a 9 week old Xoloitzcuintle puppy and was quickly overwhelmed with how high of energy she was (is) and certain behaviors I didn't like. She was biting HARD 24/7, jumping constantly, did not like being held or touched at all (which made her necessary skin care near impossible), and she needed help with potty training, crate training, leash training....basically everything. The most difficult things for us were the hard biting and jumping. Luis called us for our free phone consultation and he was very thorough and knowledgeable. He asked us tons of questions about her personality, her behaviors, our home environment, and her interactions with people and our other dog. We were hesitant at first about the e-collar, but when Luis explained how it would be used and that they would teach us how to properly use it, we felt reassured. For our first session, the trainer came out to our house and immediately started teaching us how to get Keya to calm down with the jumping and biting. She explained we needed to work on impulse control and THEN commands. She taught us the words to use and gave us a packet explaining when we would use each word. We practiced inside, in the backyard, and in our parking lot (away from grass since she wasnt fully vaccinated yet). We got so many great tips right away. We still felt overwhelmed so the trainer texted us to keep checking in on how we were doing. Our second lesson was another home visit and it definitely helped us realize our dog's primary focus was impulse control, so we kept working on it. Our puppy still kept doing the unwanted behaviors and my wife and I were so exhausted and frustrated that we texted IQ K9 asking if we could bring her to them sooner than planned. They agreed, and we brought her in for drop off. She ended up staying a whole month, and when it came for the day of pick up, we met with Logan at the training facility/home, and Logan took their time re-explaining the commands, answering our questions, then training us on the e-collar. At this point, we got to say hi to our puppy, then we went outside and immediately started practicing commands with our puppy. Logan showed us how to do something, then my wife and I took turns trying. When we made errors, Logan kindly corrected us, which we are so grateful for. After 2-3 hours, it was finally time for us to go home. We were so nervous to bring Keya (our high energy breed puppy) home, but we were SO shocked and impressed on how much progress she made. IQ K9 truly did amazing work with Keya that we never thought possible. Since she has been home, we have had some difficulties, but we expected that, and Logan prepared us for that. Logan told us there would be mistakes for us and Keya, and that we all needed to find our groove and continue the commitment to training for it to stick. My wife and I were encouraged to text IQ K9 any questions that arise, and we had some by the next day. They answered our questions and were happy to help. I highly, highly recommend IQK9! The entire team is amazing and has not only helped Keya, but helped my wife and I.

    Beary

We rescued Beary, a shepherd/malinois mix, in April 2024 who had been adopted once and returned. Beary was insecure and reactive to other dogs. We tried a San Diego trainer, but did not get the results we were looking for. We are very thankful that we found IQ K9 in Valley Center. The trainers are excellent at what they do, but it's also obvious that they care about the dogs they train. They are calm and capable. They make sure to understand what the issues are, and what the owner would like to accomplish. Beary is now a happier, well-behaved dog after his 3-week program. We were reluctant to leave him for so long, but we have been back for follow-up training sessions (for us humans), and Beary loves the trainers and is always happy to see them. Highly recommend!

    Our dog Travis during training
    Raymond M.

My wife and I are beyond grateful for Stani, Logan, and Luis at IQ K9 Training! When we picked up Travis after his 2 week immersive training, he was confident and excited to work to be a more obedient dog. We live in LA, so we drove 2 hours each way for Travis, and the experience & results were well worth it. Travis had 3 main issues we wanted to correct: 1) Going crazy and barking uncontrollably at certain dogs, 2) Jumping on people to say hi when they come close, and 3) General recall. Travis is a sweet boy, but also stubborn and sometimes likes to do the bare minimum to get by. Sometimes he tugs on the leash and he is headstrong, so when he is fixated on something, he wants to go towards it. We had a free consultation with Stani over Zoom, and she recommended a 2 week program. Our wife and I initially had hesitations with boarding & training programs given some of the bad ones we've heard / read about, but a friend of ours had went with Stani before and had glowing reviews. We took the chance, paid the deposit, and were excited for the new journey. The drop off was quick and we were anxious throughout the 2 weeks. Updates came every few days and all were positive. When we picked up Travis, we had about a 2 hour close-out session to train us on how to set Travis up for success. Travis was a changed dog. He was calm, confident, and ready to take our lead. We also initially had reservations on the use of an e collar, but Stani & Logan showed us how to use it for correction only, and we were pleased to have it as a tool to get Travis to focus. We practiced diligently over the next 2 weeks to build our confidence up as dog parents and we just wrapped up a follow-up session in-person to clean up a few things on our end. We are so glad we went with IQ K9. Stani follows very fair and good principles in her approach to training dogs - being kind with mistakes that will undoubtedly happen (for both the dog and parents), pushing for us to be consistent in how we communicate with him, and rewarding Travis for commitment towards command as learns to be obedient. We learned so much about Travis and how to approach situations with him, and our relationship with him has exponentially gotten better. We also very much enjoy how available the team is via texting when we had in the moment questions while practicing. We highly recommend IQ K9!!! They are absolutely wonderful and care so much for not only Travis, but making sure that we as dog parents are committed to helping him succeed.

    Lollipop

I was very hesitant on sending my Korean Jindo; Lollipop, for training away from home for 3 weeks. But I knew I had to because she was showing my 12 year old Aussie that she was the alpha by once in a while jumping on him and penning him down. We had to stop that aggression and we were referred to IQ K9. And I'm very happy we were! The phone call with Luis to see which immersion program she would need showed us how knowledgeable Luis was with her breed, and that the program itself was going to be perfect for her to help her not only with her aggression, but with her stubbornness, skittishness, her barking, and other bad habits she had. The training is 1, 2, or 3 weeks but because Lollipop was being aggressive Luis recommended the 3 week training. It was hard having Lollipop away from home for 3 weeks, but we got pictures, videos, texts, and phone calls on Lollipop's progress. It was wonderful to see how the trainers were teaching her, along with teaching us with the videos. I could tell they loved her with all of the pet names I would hear the trainers call her! That made me feel comfortable knowing she was being taken care of. Stani, Luis, Logan, and all the other trainers made Lollipop feel comfortable there! The trainers all understood my dog, which helped with her training. The program uses the positive reinforcement training technique. This helped Lollipop guide her towards the desired behaviors with the help of the E-collar. IQ K9 even helped us with her bad behaviors like barking, pulling on the leash, and not coming when called. Lollipop might start barking when the UPS person is at our front door, but all we have to do is say the command QUIET and she instantly pays attention!! IQ K9 has honestly made her an obedient dog. Family and friends have commented how calm she is now too because she would always bark whenever we had gatherings at our house. I am so happy I took Lollipop to IQ K9. I am very grateful for their help training my stubborn Korean Jindo. It was great to have 4-5 follow-up sessions with Stani to make sure we understood how to continue Lollipop's training. Because as Stani reminded as, consistency with the training is important! Stani is an excellent trainer and is extremely knowledgeable about dogs!! She is wonderful. When we dropped Lollipop off the first day she was very independent(reason she didn't pay attention), stubborn, skittish, aggressive with my older dog, and she had no boundaries. When we picked her up after 3 weeks she was still my Lollipop; loving and happy, but now just obedient! Thank you guys very much for your help!! We really appreciate it! I will always highly recommend you guys!

    Josephine C.

Let me just start off by saying Stani, Luis, and their team are AMAZING!!! My sister and I were referred to IQ K9 by our friend who had very successful results after enrolling her dog in private training classes. Since we live in LA, we were initially hesitant to reach out because of the distance. We were also worried about putting our dog in a board and train program as we heard many horror stories about them. However, we are so glad we chose IQ K9 for our 3 year old Shiba Inu, Mooncake's training. The main issues we were experiencing with Mooncake included resource guarding, aggression towards dogs and strangers, and biting. I first had a virtual consultation with Stani and loved how honest and upfront she was about how Mooncake's problem behaviors could have possibly stemmed from. She also gave advice as to how we could start implementing changes in the house even prior to a formal training program. We then had an in-person meet and greet and brought Mooncake down to SD to meet with Stani and Luis. From the beginning, they were quick to pick up on Mooncake's behavioral issues. They recommended a 2-3 week immersion program for Mooncake. Since we were going to be out of the country for 2-3 weeks, we decided to enroll Mooncake in a 2 week program first and if needed, extend to a 3 week program. During the training program, we were provided updates and videos every 2-3 days of Mooncake's progress. Stani was very upfront with us and towards the middle of the 2 week program, she let us know that Mooncake was progressing but likely not at the speed we would have wanted to. She recommended that we either extend another week of training or she would give us a full refund. I truly appreciated Stani and her honesty. We were initially hesitant on extending Mooncake's training for another week because we missed him so much. However, we decided to purse another week of training as we were already seeing significant improvement just with the videos. When it was time to pick Mooncake up after his 3 week program, we were SO IMPRESSED with his progress. Let me tell you, it was like night and day. Mooncake was so much more obedient and receptive to our commands. Stani and her team use a mixture of positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement (prong collar and e-collar). At the go-home lesson, Stani showed us the correct way to use the collar equipment. We are so amazed by how Mooncake's biting, resource guarding, and aggression were corrected during the short time with Stani's team. We are continuing to implement the same training techniques at home and continue to see Mooncake improve despite being back at home. Again, we are so happy with Stani and her team's professionalism, true understanding of training dogs appropriately, and efficiency with training our fur baby, Mooncake. If you are looking for a board and train program in the SoCal area, we can't recommend IQ K9 enough.

"My wife and I cannot recommend IQ K9 highly enough! From the moment we brought our 6-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, Ren, to their facility, it was clear that this place is dedicated to both the dogs and their owners. Luis, Logan, and Stani are not only skilled and knowledgeable trainers, but they also have a true passion for helping dogs succeed. Their patience, expertise, and personalized approach created an incredibly positive and supportive environment for both Ren and us. We've seen remarkable progress, and we're genuinely grateful for everything they've done! **Background:** Ren, who we adopted from a rescue center, had been surrendered by a military couple due to her high energy and their impending arrival of a baby. Though Ren is a sweet and loving puppy, she came to us with some training gaps, and we quickly realized that we needed professional help to guide her. After our initial consultation with Luis, we felt completely at ease. He took the time to explain every step of the process in detail, answered all of our questions, and never pressured us into anything. We decided on the 2-week immersion program, which offered Ren the essential foundation to become a well-behaved, happy, and safe puppy. What really sets IQ K9 apart, though, is their ongoing support even after the immersion program ended. They offer up to five follow-up sessions, which will be invaluable for refining Ren's skills and addressing any challenges that crop up once she was back home. We knew going in that two weeks wouldn't magically transform our high-energy puppy, and we were realistic about the fact that real progress comes with continued practice and reinforcement at home. But even after just a couple of days back, it's already clear that Ren is more confident, better behaved, and noticeably more responsive. One thing that really stood out to us was the team's dedication to going above and beyond for their clients. For example, Ren struggled a bit with certain skills, especially when distractions were introduced. Luis personally reached out to see if it would be okay for Ren to stay an extra few days for more practice. This level of care and attention shows just how much the IQ K9 team values their clients and their dogs--and they didn't even ask for extra payment, which was a welcome surprise. Another important topic I want to address is the use of the e-collar, which sometimes gets a bad reputation. While some people associate it with the idea of "shock collars," the e-collar, when used correctly, is an incredibly effective training tool. IQ K9 practices balanced training, blending reward-based methods with the e-collar to provide a positive and efficient way to teach dogs. We've had experience with e-collars from training our previous dog, so we were comfortable with its use. With Ren, the e-collar made a huge difference in her responsiveness, and it's given us a much more obedient dog, which ultimately makes her safer. Plus, IQ K9 equipped us with the same e-collar and other training tools they used during Ren's sessions, so we feel fully prepared to continue her training at home. While Ren still has a bit of work to do as we teach her new skills, we're incredibly confident in the progress she's made, and we're excited for all the activities we'll be able to enjoy together. We now feel empowered with the tools and knowledge to continue her training in a positive and effective way. Overall, we are incredibly grateful to Luis, Logan, Stani, and the entire IQ K9 team for their expertise, dedication, and personalized care. If you're looking for a professional, balanced approach to dog training, we highly recommend IQ K9."

We adopted a Malinois at 3 years old and she was the sweetest hooligan at home but lacked confidence when we left the home, leading to some behavioral issues. We were referred to IQ K9 by owners who said they would not trust any one else with their dogs. Every step from the initial phone call with Luis, drop off/pick up appts, to follow up training with Stani was highly professional and educational. Luis told us that they had a client tell them that their dog walks with their chin held up and that's exactly what we see- her tail and chin are held higher. She's confident, more relaxed, and more fulfilled. I can't emphasize enough how grateful I am for Stani and her team. We will always be training but IQ K9 gave us a stronger foundation than I ever could have hoped for. Also she has a super strong off/on switch now which I'm sure is a result of structured training - she goes in 100% for play time and is way more attentive when we train inside or outside the home but knows when she needs to settle. Ask questions if you have concerns about training - they absolutely take the time to educate and talk things through (i.e. we were initially hesitant at the use of an ecollar but now she knows it means an adventure and training and she's ready to go). Long story short, bring your dog here - your dog will thank you.

IQ K9 Training is a godsend! We have two golden puppies that were out of control. We enrolled them in their 2 week training program which included 5 additional training sessions afterwards. The trainers were so wonderful and patient with our girls. They came home and were almost like they were new dogs! The training we received gave us confidence and be better dog parents. For the last training session Stani and Kyle came to our home to help with some specific behaviors we were still struggling with. I highly recommend IQ K9. They are wonderful!!

Life-Changing! Best Money We Have Every Spent! Miracle! We found out about IQ K9 from a good family friend when we were at our wits end with our 7 month old white lab puppy, Sandy. We were struggling with her unruly, dominant behavior while trying to meet all the needs of our family of four. I decided to reach out for a consultation phone call and after talking to Luis, I KNEW we needed their help. At 7 months, we had put in countless hours trying to train Sandy into being an obedient dog but nothing was working. She was still very mouthy, jumped on everyone, ripped up the yard, chewed wood chips, and couldn't be trusted to be inside or outside our house without getting destructive. We were all pretty miserable because Sandy was running our household despite us putting forth our best effort to train her. During our initial phone consultation, Luis made me feel that Sandy could definitely reach her potential and be trained out of the nuisance behaviors. He thoroughly explained their training program and answered my dozens of questions. I'm very much on the conservative side of things when it comes to my family and my dogs, so the idea of dropping her off at a facility for two weeks at first was a little nerve wracking. Yet after talking to Luis, I felt completely comfortable that she would receive exceptional care, and I was correct. The professionalism from Luis and all the staff is at the highest level. Additionally, we received timely videos and photos updates of Sandy, including one of her sitting in 'place' three feet from a cat! What a testament to their training methods! I was skeptical that her behavior would change very much because it was only two weeks, but 100% of her troublesome behaviors have disappeared and remain gone! We feel like it was a miracle. It's like a different life with her. I was also truly shocked at how HAPPY Sandy is after training. She understands her limits and boundaries based off of the IQ K9 training methods and the e-collar is like magic. She is not bothered in the least by her e-collar. I was wondering how she would react to it because I knew that was a training tool used but have no experience with one. I kept an open mind about the e-collar and I'm thrilled I did because it is nothing like I expected. Sandy has not one ounce of a negative reaction to it. She seems to view it simply as a communication tool and it is working beautifully to communicate the behaviors we want and do not want. To be clear, I would never try and use an e-collar without Luis or Logan or the other IQ K9 staff training my dog on it first. I don't personally feel qualified to do the initial training, but the staff teaches you how to effectively use it at the 2 hour pick up training session after they have trained your dog on the e-collar. Also, the IQ K9 staff have the biggest hearts for the dogs they train, which also explains why Sandy is so happy and healthy after her training. We follow the direction of Luis and her other trainer, Logan, to the letter in order to keep this progress Sandy has made permanent. The best part- their program is so simple and easy to follow. Even my 10 year old is able to do it. IQ K9 trained us on how to give clear, simple marker words and commands to Sandy. We received all the training tools upon pick up and the quality of everything, from the training staff to the training tools used are all exceptional. I feel like a huge responsibility has been taken off my plate and a weight off my shoulders. I am supremely confident that the training Sandy received from IQ K9 will carry us through the rest of her puppy phases and into adulthood. I cannot recommend IQ K9 enough and will never have another dog again without getting trained with IQ K9!!

IQ K9 Training has helped my family and I with my young high energy Rat Terrier Cattle Dog mix named Chopper who I adopted as a puppy from the animal shelter. He learned to listen to commands we have learned with IQ K9 and knowing how he should be behaving knowing right from wrong. Chopper and I recently had an experience on our own where he got loose but due to his recall training he learned with IQ on the first call he came right to me. His training with IQ K9 saved his life. I am a first time dog owner and sent him through the 3 week immersion program. I truly trust IQ K9 and their wonderful staff to teach and have Chopper under their care in his program and when I board him with IQ K9. I highly recommend reaching out they are wonderful and you will truly see results in your companion. Thank you IQ K9!!!!

My 7 year old 20# Maltipoo was a 'reactive' little guy who pulled on the leash and was unpredictable around new people or new dogs. He liked to jump on everyone, bark hysterically if anyone came to the door and would go crazy when he saw an Amazon truck. After 2 weeks at IQK9 training (the ranch) he was calm, happy and the best version of himself. We were back at the ranch 1 week after his training and he was sooo excited to see Katie (his trainer) and the ranch again! That spoke volumes to me about his learning experience there......he was HAPPY to visit and see everyone again! Don't hesitate! Do yourself and your pooch a favor and get the training you both need! THANKS SO MUCH, Lianne, Brett and the team of trainers @ IQ K9 We totally appreciate you and what you have done for Ta'ku...and our family! We adopted Ta'ku as a wee bear cub @ just a month old. She lost her mama and was separated from her siblings at 2 weeks old. We nurtured her and her gut health to give her the best start we knew how. However with an aged dog at home and this little one once she became of substantial size it was clear she had some resource guarding issues (she bit twice trying to guard her prized bone) and she had a lot of fear of the world, ie diving under parked cars as she was walked, she would cower when there were loud noises or dogs barking at her. She didn't walk well at all on a leash. etc We are Jeepers and like to go out with groups and have her along but she really didn't like the people much or other dogs. She does love the Jeep rides. We started leaving her home because she was unpredictable. I chose to dig in and "save" our relationship, I just love her so much. (Truth be told her humans had failed her.) I didn't make a short-term commitment. So I made an appt with IQ K9 training... On consultation day Brett explained to us why she was acting as she was and what we could start doing that day to help her, and ourselves. It took a few months before there was an opening but we sent her off to BootCamp for 3 weeks of training. I have to say it was the best decision I made for her. It was tough for us all, we missed her so much. She now handles herself with confidence... she obeys, walks like a dream, she has become such a love bug in a positive sense. She loves learning tricks and playing. She now interacts with other dogs in play "properly" and engages well with our "old man" our 14lb 10 yr old dog. She recalls wonderfully. She is amazingly behaved in a mall/people setting. She clearly loves to work. Now she is able to join us when we go out most of the time. She is great with strangers and people coming into the home. I am so very thankful..... the trainers will tell you she is a different dog... she did us proud and she is so very happy now. If you are considering this training company don't hesitate, and keep in mind they usually have a wait before you can get in with your best friend. Thanks IQ K9 Training !!!!!

They seemed to get along but they started having fights, which were getting worse and more intense every time. We made the decision to bring them to Happy Feet and they came home with the skills they needed to see us as the leaders, rather than fighting each other for that role. We bought the recommended climbs/cots and the difference in their behavior is incredible. If they're begging, getting too rowdy, barking at a guest, and before meals, we put them on their climbs and they don't get off until we tell them they can. They are so well behaved now! The amount of training Happy Feet was able to do in two weeks with them would have taken us months or even years. It has been over a year since we brought them to Happy Feet and they still know all of the commands that they were taught. They haven't had any more fights and are actually great friends now! I highly recommend Happy Feet to anyone who has a dog with any behavioral problems. The climbs are really just the greatest tool, the dogs feel so comfortable and safe on them and everyone comments on how well behaved they are.

Decided to go with the board and train to ensure she was set for success while away on a trip. I can tell you this place is legit, has the skills, and genuinely cares about their guests. First class service and great communication before/during/after. My puppy came in with minimal training and left a star. Sit, down, stay, leave it, more respect with the cats and my resident dog at home, and way more confidence. They have a family dog, there's kids and other family around, chickens, cats, and more to be exposed to + cuddles galore. I'm very happy with my choice. We'll be back for daycare weekly.

From the phone to drop-off they were excellent at staying in contact and making sure everything we needed was addressed. They kept that same level of communication and dedication during our furry friend's stay, which definitely made me comfortable and secure in leaving my dog there. When we picked up our dog, we were walked through everything that was worked on and were blown away. The progress was undeniable. They will tell you what worked, what didn't, and make sure to work with you to plan for you pet's future needs. 10/10. I can't think of taking any of my puppy or senior dog anywhere else.

Wow! Our dog came back calm, orderly, and OBEDIENT! After a month long stay and many many wonderful updates multiple times per week we are confident he has made at least a 90% improvement on his bad behaviors and is able to calmly behave not only around us but his reactivity to other dogs has made a tremendous improvement. Shannon and Sierra are STELLAR! I'd also like to mention they did a home drop off for us (since I'm still heavily pregnant) and spent over an HOUR with my husband and I going over all of the new things he has learned + even took a walk with us in the neighborhood to address another issue we had with reactivity. We were left with a sheet of all his new & enforced behaviors to keep track of along with super chewer toys and treats. Excellent, excellent, excellent experience with this team and I highly recommend anyone who needs this service to pull the trigger and go for it! You will not regret your decision!
