Yep... I'm the guy that really really dislikes phone protector. Yes, and I drop my iPhone a great deal. After a few years of being dropped (it never bounced) the scotch tape holding the glass screens together (front and back) were failing. My next step was the dreaded "search for help" on the internet. I went go karting on 1/2/23 and my phone slipped out of my pocket and was run over. It was completely destroyed - the phone was bent and shattered all around. The right side of my phone was sanded down from the go kart dragging on it so obviously I was unable to get a response from the phone. It was definitely overdue to get my iPhone battery changed as i've been walking around with a portable charger for the last 4 months...I was debating about getting a new phone or to change the battery...battery won! After reading D.wight L's review, I completely related to not upgrading my phone with each iteration...heck I'm still in the single digits and would still be using my Samsung Slider if it would still work dammit! If it still works why replace? Then again, I'm not about the 'gram or TikTok so what I have works just fine... Anywho, was in the area and saw the sign on the door "by appointment only"....grrrr....I knocked and mentioned I just needed a battery change and the owner, Herman asked what version phone I had and said he had one battery left! Yay i asked about the lifespan of a battery as mine drops juice like 30% within an hour of just looking at Yelp, going to a site like IG, reading the latest news...NO bueno! Herman quickly worked on my phone and educated me on battery charging and life and said I should allow it to drop to 10-15% so it cycles and charging overnight could impact battery life...truly appreciated him sharing this info! Friendly, professional and reasonably priced and had me on my way within 15 minutes! I would RECOMMEND CALLING before you go as I wouldn't rely on Yelp hours as still on flexible schedule due to the times! I just lucked out! Small space in the Industrial/Business Park area of Hayward but once you see the Domino's facility and Flyer's Gas you know you're in the right area.... This repair shop saved me. Since I'm a dumb-dumb and tried to ignore the "WARNING, water detected in your iPhone, please refrain from charging" notice on my iPhone 12 mini, I was like eh, what's the worse that could happen. Shortly after I continued charging my phone. This AM I noticed that no wired charger would work with my phone, in the car, at home, nothing. I was like welp I suppose I can use the wireless charging option HOWEVER I didn't have a wireless charger. With limited time before my phone died with NO way to charge it I had to figure this out quickly. I called some iPhone repair shops and nOBODY could repair the charging port on the iPhone 12 mini. NOBODY. I was like great now I have to go into the Apple Store and have them tell me what I already know and they're gonna charge me up the a** or make me get a new phone. I called Herminio and even he at first said he would need to order the part, oh well at least he can do the service. I called back mentioning that I couldn't seem to find any other repair shop that would do this service so he said he MAY have the part at one of his stores, since someone in the past had ordered the part and never came in. Yes I know I'm one of the 20 people in the world that has the iPhone 12 mini. I also simultaneously made a Genius Bar appointment in case Herminio didn't have the part, so I told him to call me in the event he found it. The clock started ticking towards my Genius Bar appointment and I decided to text him, and by some act of God he had the part!!!! I sped over to his partner's shop in Castro Valley and I was probably in and out of there in 30-45 minutes. For background.. Herminio has been in the business since 2009, so he has vast knowledge and skill when it comes to the iPhone. He can most likely do a service not offered anywhere else (similar to my case) at a great price (meaning, less than what Apple would charge you. I am happy). He is a great guy and extremely friendly. I will be referring all my friends and family to his shop in an attempt to save people who may be going into the Apple Store and paying an arm and a leg for service. read more
