I went into Interstate because I heard good things about the brand to pick up a battery for my car. Instead of asking for my VIN # like every other battery place did to actually verify the correct size and model of the battery, the person working at the counter told me there were two sizes for my car, a smaller and bigger sized one, which is yours? I responded saying I don't know the battery size, because it's my first time replacing it on my car. He then told me to go measure it with a tape ruler. Firstly, my car was dead hence, I did not have it with out in the lot, it was parked at home and secondly my battery was underneath plastic covers that I could not get to without proper mechanic tools and measure. This was all explained. You would think a battery place knows the correct size of the battery you need for a specific make and model of any car. He then decided lets fo for the smaller one i said sure trusting in his expertise and holding on to hope. i take the car to the mechanic who takes an hour and a half to get to the battery just to find out I indeed needed the larger battery size. I stood there with the mechanic looking at each other like shouldn't the guy at Interstate have taken the time out to just look up the correct size? It would've taken him a minute. Isn't that his job and their speciality? Turns out I ended up ordering the OEM battery from the mechanic, had to take a long Uber ride home and find my way back to pick up my car when it could've all been done in one go with some experise. The service just seemed, lazy, unprofessional, and incompetent. It reminds me why some employees are liabilities. They could've had a $350 sale but ended up refunding it. On top of that, I asked the same person who made the sale and then proceeded with the refund when it will be returned to my bank account and again he confidently said a couple hours, it still has not been refunded. Save your time, energy, uber expenses and just pay for an OEM battery from the dealership or even go to Autozone. At least they seemed more willing to help and are knowledgeable. read more

I was pleased to see an actual brick and mortar building for an Interstate battery business. I've in the past have had to order my batteries online and had it shipped. I've always been a fan of the Optima model of the Interstate brand. Those batteries have been my choice since they were invented. My go to colors are the red top and the yellow top. Both are great depending what you are using them for. I have the red top in my car that I use for my daily commute and that thing is still running strong. The yellow top is in my truck that is lifted and needs a little more power since I have a stereo system and a wench that I use when I go off-roading with the click. So depending on an individual's lifestyle, choose properly which batteries would suit you. If in doubt, the sales rep is extremely helpful and surely knows their stuff and can match you with the proper product. read more

First time I had ever bought a battery that lasted a few months after the warranty. When buying the battery, the guy never told me I was paying for a 24 month battery. So I just paid the $60 and said fine with it. Around the 25th month, I needed a jump start because the battery was dead. I wasn't around so a friend just told me. A few months later it happens again. When CSAA came out they tested my battery and told me that the Cold Cranking was at 80 when this battery should had been at 250. Taking it to this place, they test it and tell me the exact same thing. They also tell me that they wanted $55 after prorating my battery. This is the first time I had to replace my battery twice in a single car, since I am not running anything not OEM and live in an area that doesn't drop below 60F or go above 90F for more than a week. Rather go to Kragen or Costco for a replacement battery next time.. I had never had trouble with their batteries in less than 5 years from date of purchase. read more

However the counter guy took it upon himself to get them out and have them ready even though I didn't ask him to do so, or even indicate I was on my way. Pretty cool, eh? Went here to get a battery for our car it was a hot day decided to bring my 2 little dogs inside, and the guy at the counter said no dogs allowed, I asked why? he said there's acid in the shop I don't understand that comment and acid is inside the battery not outside on the floor , and there is no sign posted anywhere "NO DOGS ALLOWED" they are not dog friendly so I decided to go take my business to Redwood City Interstate Battery and they let me bring my dogs inside with no problem and friendly staff. My John Deere mower's battery ran dead, and had to get it replaced. It was an unusual size and most of the places I knew, did not have it in stock. I wanted to avoid having to drive all the way back to the place where I got it. So I brought the dead battery with me and asked if they had anything that was similar to it, the guy behind the counter took the battery to the back and said he would be right back. He came back shortly with a new one, he ended up taking back our old one free of charge and took the new one back home, installed it and fired the John Deere back up. The battery went out on my 1993 Audi S4 on March 15th - The Ides of March!! I pretty much started looking for a replacement starting w/ the closest option - Sears @ Tanforan (like a 5 minute walk). They didn't have a DieHard battery w/ the vent port. Autozone....wasn't really hot on their Duralast brand... but they didn't have one w/ a port anyways. Didn't even dawn on me to see if my battery was under warranty - Turns out I bought it June 2008 a few days before my big move to Northern California from San Diego. And sure enough it was under warranty still. Dont know why I didn't think to check this first?? In da GF's Scion, drove down to the Interstate Battery warehouse in Millbrae (7 minutes away?). Showed the guy my receipt and my old battery. FREE Replacement!! He did have something to say about the franchise I bought it from in SD... apparently there's a huge difference w/ protocols between Corporate and Franchise locations. The date stamp on the battery was over a year off the purchase receipt. Meaning it had been sitting for a while or ? The replacement he gave me was shrink wrapped. Where the one I was replacing was "loose" when I bought it. If you're the "brand loyal" type: Having been through DieHard, Optima, and other batteries in the past I must say I have a great experience w/ Interstate and will continue to use them. If you're in the bay area and you're having problems sourcing a new battery for your car, I recommend the Interstate Battery in Millbrae. I had called ahead to get a quote for a battery and installation for my Civic. Given that they quoted me a price that was a good $10 less than what other shops were telling me and that this shop was close to home, I decided to give them a try. The guys at the front of the shop were very nice, but the price ended up being more than what I was quoted on the phone. I probably should have argued a bit about it, but given other research that I had done, the price wasn't unfair, but comparable to those at other places. The service guys in the back of the store were not as friendly and pretty quiet--almost seemed like they had never talked to a woman in the garage before. The nice thing was that I could watch them install the battery while I waited, so now I know how to do it myself! I just need the right wrench... Three stars because it was really just A-OK; they got the job done while I waited at an average price. I can't bump up the rating because of the mediocre service and the price not quite matching the quote I got over the phone. read more

We've used Interstate for years with no trouble but the last few months we've had multiple sudden, unexplained failures. Burlingame's been nice about it but nice doesn't make machines go. We don't know what they changed (we suspect Interstate switched from Johnson Controls to Exide in our sizes) but it doesn't matter - after ten years of doing business with only Burlingame Interstate, we've had to ban them as a vendor. read more

These guys are distributors for most of the battery brands. Bought an optima red top from these guys a couple years back when Costco didn't have the right size. They even beat Costco's price when I asked. It stopped holding a charge, probably cause I don't drive the car enough. Went by to exchange it and they took care of it no grief. Then I asked if they had any batteries for my bucket daily driver (odd oversize battery for an SC300.) They hooked me up with a re-manufactured battery with warranty for $33! Why go anywhere else for a battery when they're likely the ones that brought it to the store to begin with. read more

I was able to pick up a battery for my car (bit of a strange size because I drive a diesel), have my old battery tested, and have the new battery installed in an hour. Given the odd size of my battery, I think I could have spent a day to get the work done. The Interstate guys were cheerful, worked through installation in a tight space without complaining, and gave me what I think is great service.
