The last time I had my windshield replaced, FYG caused my heads up display (HUD) to display tilted. Once the owners of Clear Quality Glass heard this, they said, "Oh that must be a skill issue with your previous installer or they used the wrong glass". I told them that it's unlikely a skill issue because they ended up going through four different FYG windshields and all of them caused the same issue. Also, if they ordered the wrong non-HUD glass, typically that would cause a blurry or ghosting effect on the HUD which wasn't the case in the four FYG windshields they went through. It displayed sharp, just very tilted.
I told them I rather just have OEM glass since it's was such a huge fiasco last time going through four FYG windshields which caused that shop to get upset, then try to gaslight me that they can't see the issue, the heads up display is not tilted, it's my vision, I'm the one remembering how it was wrong, we wasted four windshield on you, we're losing money. Literally every excuse in the book to cover themselves. So I ended up paying twice for their fifth attempt, this time using OEM glass which finally solved the issue. I just wanted to avoid that potential hassle again and OEM is the safest route. Especially since I spent nearly $4k last time because I paid twice. The windshields for this vehicle is incredibly expensive. I don't think it's unreasonable for me to be as careful as I can.
Even after hearing all this, Jennifer, the owner of Clear Quality Glass still went out of her way to defend Fuyao Glass. She said "I do want you to know that the windshield cannot make it tilt. They likely dislodged The HUD using an extractor."
Really? Go ahead and Google Fuyao glass and HUD problems and there's no shortage of complaints that mirror mine. There's even people with the same vehicle as me who reported the same thing happening to them. I've even had other glass installers say they don't recommend FYG for certain vehicles because of these issues.
That installer explained that FYG makes quality glass, yes. But that's not the issue. For proper HUD display, the glass needs to be manufactured within very tight tolerances with a special PVB wedge layer between the glass, oriented precisely and the correct curvature of the glass itself. Sure the glass can fit the housing and technically have all the components, but if any of those components are not to factory specs, even off by a millimeter, it can lead to issues.
Not only did other glass installers contradict what you claim is "impossible", I also doubt they dislodged my HUD projector. In my vehicle, it's firmly mounted inside a housing in the dashboard. They would destroy the housing before even getting to the HUD projector. Also, if that was the case then why did the OEM windshield on the fifth attempt finally fix the issue?
First it was a skill issue. Second, they used the wrong glass. Third, it's impossible for FYG to cause a tilted HUD. Fourth. They dislodged my HUD projector. It's like they want to blame everything else besides the glass.
That literally gave me PTSD and brought me back to all the problems I had with the other shop gaslighting me. It gave me even more reason want OEM glass because if the owners of Clear Quality Auto Glass is going so far out of their way to defend FYG, you can imagine how far they would go if it did cause issues.
Mind you, all I did at this point was ask them for a quote using OEM glass and I would be paying cash. That should have been the end of it. Why did they feel the need to go out of their way giving all these ridiculous scenarios and excuses for FYG? It implies that they don't believe me at all.
I finally did get a quote for OEM glass with them. I called Friday 10/2 and gave them the go ahead to order the part and the install, also sent an email. No response by Monday 10/5 so I sent Jennifer another email. No response. Then on Tuesday 10/6 I sent another follow up email and got no response again. That confirms they just ghosted me.
Arrogant, Passive-Aggressive, and Impatient are the words I'd use to describe the owners of Clear Quality Auto Glass. If your car doesn't have HUD, you'll most likely be happy with aftermarket FYG. However if it does, I implore you to be cautious and do your research, and also get them to explicitly state that they will warranty your glass should it cause issues.
