We were well taken care of at the Intercontinental. The rooms were adequate and comfrotable. We had a room with a balcony that faced the Atlantic. Looking over the balcony, we had a nice view of the beach and pool areas. If you decide to camp out on the beach to catch some rays, you may rent some beach chairs and an umbrella. Get out there early if you want to stake your claim. The bar has several servers that patrol the beach to take care of your alcohol and food needs. If you get hungry, order their pizza! There are a couple of pools to dip in. The hot tub gets packed at night. If you happen to take part in the hot tub experience, make sure to take a look into the palms where you may see 2-3 bats fluttering about in the night sky. At night, the bar area serves late night food. While the food is good, but is very expensive. There is also a small cafe inside the hotel for your early coffee needs. The staff that runs this area are very friendly and helpful. Need to relax? There is a spa on site. We got some massages on our second day there. The room was cold... Near the check-in desk, there are folks that are willing to book a day trip if you desire to depart the confines of the hotel. We took a trip to el Yunque (rainforest) and had a great time. If you plan to take a trip to the bioluminescent bays, be warned: these book quickly. The bellhops are awesome and very helpful when a cab is needed. Cab rides are expensive and can cost up to $40 round-trip. The only disappointment came with the casino. If you've been to Vegas, don't bother with this casino unless you have an unsatiable addiction and can't resist the tables. During our walk through, there was one guy passed out in front of a slot machine. Overall, I would stay here again, based on the service, cost and location. We had a great time. read more

My fiance and I stayed at the Intercontinental for a long weekend vacation. The hotel was clean and the staff was very nice, we were just surprised at how outdated it was compared to the Intercon in Atlanta. Also, a huge markup on beer at the bars, which I know is what you expect at resorts but come on - $8 for a Mic Ultra is a little crazy. The beach was great and the staff was great, so no complaints there. We really didn't eat anything beyond a salad at the swimup bar so no real feed back on food. The gym was nice and clean, and has a great view. We also got massages in the spa which was a wonderful experience. Would I stay here again, yes......I just think with the cost of the room, the hotel could use some upgrades. read more

I wish I could give 4.5 stars; 5 for outstanding service and 4 for a beautiful but somewhat dated hotel. After finding convincingly good airfare to San Juan and a hot hotel rate, we booked a weekend trip to celebrate my fiancés birthday. We read tons of reviews which brag about the level of service here, and were certainly not disappointed in any way. We were checked in by a sweet girl named Kathia, who made us feel incredibly welcome at the hotel. She told us that due to all of the things we were celebrating, we were upgraded to Club level, which offered upgraded amenities such as continental breakfast in the mornings with bagels, cheese, meats, salmon, cereal, pastries, fresh fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. In the evenings from 5-7pm, wine and beer are offered complimentary with light bites, cheese, meats, artisan butter and some sweets. Kathia showed us around the Club lounge and walked us to the special Club tower (I've never seen front desk staff escort guests around the hotel, such a nice touch!) We settled into our room, which was spacious with a king bed and separate sitting area with marble floors. Sliding glass doors let out to a private patio with seating, overlooking the gardens and pool area. Not even 5 minutes into our visit, the phone rang and blinked red with a new voice message. It was Kathia, checking to make sure we loved the room. Again, such a nice touch. We slipped into our bathing suits and explored the hotel grounds. The lagoon-style pool was enormous -- on one end was a waterfall alcove and on the other was an expansive hot tub. It seemed that many young kids were in the hot tub at all times, so the rules were not necessarily enforced, but we didn't mind their company. We also wandered to the beach where attendants were waiting enthusiastically to set guests up with chairs and umbrellas. Even on excruciatingly hot days, their positive moods didn't seem to waiver. When we returned to the room, a bottle of rose brut waited for us with chocolate covered strawberries. So generous and thoughtful. The next day, a piece of chocolate cake was also delivered to the room. We felt so special -- they really went above and beyond in making our stay memorable and enjoyable. If you visited this hotel in past years and was not satisfy, it is time to give it a second chance. I was there in past years and was not satisfy ; after our last stay two weeks ago , my perspective has change 180 degrees. I visited this hotel with my wife and two baby girls ( 4 & 3) The location: Isla verde has the best beaches in San Juan . This hotel is right on the beach . The area surrounding the hotel is filled mostly with stores and restaurants that cater to tourist. The hotel is extremely close to the airport ( you do occasionally hear the planes landing or taking off ; but def not as frequent or loud as some other reviews have expressed) It's a 15 minute car ride to " old San Juan " and 8-10 minute to el condado ( the other tourist area of San Juan ). The hotel: just remodeled . The lobby is very well polish and one of the things I was really impressed with was the outdoors lobby . Very neat . They also strive to keep the etiquette of the hotel by keeping guess in line with their actions in the main lobby ( I think that was great as it keeps all guess happy and the hotel ambience classy ) . The rooms are well decorated and the beds are super comfortable. We had a room in a high floor which had spectacular views of the beach ( the balconies are very small , and the pool area separates the hotel from the beach ; but still the view was stunning) Prior to arriving we made simple request that were all met ( high floor, crib for baby and a room away from the elevator ) The pool area is excellent. The hotel has the best pool area from all the other comparable hotels in the area. Like most other hotels you do have to get out early if you want a certain place by the pool . There is also a huge jacuzzi which is a great addition . The area around the pool is wonderfully curated with local plants and vegetation;which provides a wonderful tropical sense . There is a boardwalk which spans the length of the hotel's beach property , exclusive only form guess ; which could be use to :eat , read or watch the sunset or rise. There is a small children's playground and " quiet areas to relax or read . The restaurants: The pool/bar area boast an array of great drinks and food selections , There is an Italian restaurant which I never used except for breakfast;once( although the breakfast buffet has many options ; in my perspective it's overprice and not a good value ( important to mention that their service was very attentive ) . In the lobby there is A cafe where you can get all types of coffee and even appetizers or unique snacks like bocadillos ( bite size sandwiches ) . Also there is a hibachi restaurant , which I never used . The beach restaurant was the place we mostly used . The food was decent . We also dined at Ruth's steakhouse, located on the property ( with two small children ; probably not the right place but the staff made us feel very comfortable and children collaborated:expensive ) . We also ordered room service one night ; which was good . Overall the hotel' has a good array of options to eat ; which can keep you from ever leaving the resort. However all very pricey specially if you include drinks ( which average ($10 -$15) You can easily spend $100-$250 dollars a day or more for a small family . I would recommend also venturing into some of the options outside of the hotel ( if you are sticking to a budget ; or just to try different options) . All these prices are comparable with what the other hotels in the area charge. However I would reiterate that the best value will be from the beach restaurant ( Ciao). The service was great. From the moment you step into the property it's all smiles and courtesy . This used to be an issue with this hotel ; no more!!. The front desk explained all the charges including the hold they put in your CC ; when you check in. I think it's based on the amount of days ( we stayed 7 days and they put a hold of about $500) as you get closer to reaching the amount based on your consumption they will increase that hold. Trust ...this amount can climb very quickly , so keep an eye on it based on your consumption) when we checked out everything we consumed was deducted from the hold and the remaining balance was back in my CC with in days . The casino : newly renovated played poker every night , nothing like Vegas but only place in San Juan that has decent action in PR. Overall ; I will really recommend this hotel even if you had a bad experience in the past . I think it's great hotel for families and couples. read more

They are dodgy with credit card charges; don't do it! The hotel is by the water, aesthetically appealing and staff is nice, BUT: 1) Towards the end of my stay, I started receiving fraudulent charges on my credit card. When asked about the first one, they said it was a "computer glitch". When I asked about the second one a day later (the day we were checking out), they said it had to do with the number of days we stayed vs. the check out date, and that it wouldn't "post". I was still unclear about what this meant, since we never changed our reservation, but the charge was still "pending" on my card, so tried not to worry about it. 2) The day after I arrived back home, I saw a third and fourth new charge -- both with transaction dates after I had left -- meaning there was no way I could make a transaction with the hotel when I wasn't there to make a purchase. One of the charges also "posted" to my account. 3) After following my card daily to ensure no other fees got posted; I had to call my credit card to dispute the posted charge and a week and a half went by before the pending fees got removed. 4) To get the charge taken off my card, it took the one preliminary call to the credit card (cc) company; then I had to fill out a form and fax it back; then I got a call from the cc company again to talk through the problem. This has taken place over a two-week period, and I'm told the next step is for my cc co. to "temporarily credit my account" while they check with Intercontinental. 5) Furthermore, there is a 27% tax on staying there, since it's a resort; expect to tip for everything; and taxis charge double of what Uber there charges (and taxi's have resorts as part of their territory). 6) I almost forgot -- The hotel doesn't provide an open refrigerator and there is no free continental breakfast (which is surprising because it's pretty darn pricey). It's all about the money for them. If you literally open the already filled fridge and pull something out, you will be automatically charged (so the person at the front desk said...we wouldn't dare purchase a $5 candy bar). It's Walgreens and non-perishable foods if you're on any sort of a budget. Nightmare. Dodgy. Criminal. My recommendation is to go to a locally owned hotel, B&B, or do Airbnb. For part of my trip, I stayed at Hotel La Playa and it was wonderful! read more

In short, this is a 4-star resort masking their 3-star mediocre service. In fact, the service appears to be horrific at times (see room below). My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week in early March '09. GROUNDS: It is overlooking at the beautiful Isla Verde beach. Pool is very nice. It doesn't quite measure up with the Ritz's side where there are palm trees and pillows, but the Ritz is on a higher price scale. Towels and cushioned lawn chairs are provided in pool and beach areas, but you have to pay for umbrella ($10 a pop). The water is beautiful, but the waves are strong on this side and is not good for swimming. If you like sun-tanning and an occasional dip in the sea, that is good. If you like water-skiing too, there are people on the beach for that. The pool areas behind the hotel are comfortable and, though crowded at times, are mostly relaxing. There are security guards at the beach gates and the pool is secure and restricted to guests only. ROOMS: This was absolute NIGHTMARE. Our room was not ready by the time we check in (after 4 pm). The line to get to speak with front-desk was long (they were short staff). We planned to stay a week and requested an ocean-view room on high floor over a month in advance, but, instead, we were placed at the extreme corner with a complete blocked ocean view on the 4th floor next to rowdy high-school/college kids who most of the night (classic!). I called and guest service told me it would be rectified right away, within an hour top. We waited...until the next day and still no one returned my call. I felt this was the most crap-tastic $300+/night 4-star rip-off you will get. I spoke with the front desk again in the morning, and finally he was apologetic and changed our room. My frustration was appeased, but the damage was done. Our room was small and a bit old. The cleaning service was actually decent, but the room walls were thin and there was not much privacy. At times, it felt like we were living in the college dorms. HOTEL Overall, small casino. Restaurant Alfredo was average, the Japanese restaurant (Moyayama) was decent. The chef actually cooked in front of you and put on a show. Chris Ruth's was closed for renovation. Travel around town is convenient with the car too as it was right in the middle of town. SERVICE: The house-keeping service was good. The bellboy and doormen were also pleasant and made us feel welcomed. The tour-trip desk was not helpful at all when you don't purchase to their pre-planned trip offers and want to do your own trips. They were either ignorant or not interested to talk if you just want information. The spa massage service was average at best compared to those in Boston. Wi-Fi service in house was a plus, but the internet flight ticket print-out did not work when I was there (yet another slip). Beware of the concierge, for they must have been bribed by local restaurants to recommend you to go to mediocre dining places. CAR-RENTAL: There is an in-house care-rental service, AVIS, but the service there was extremely short-staffed. There were frequent delays (expect 10-15 mins at least) in getting and returning your car. The parking lot was across the street and convenient, but was not cheap ($20/overnight). There was decent car selection. Plan accordingly if you are on a tight schedule. Overall, i would have accepted the hotel service had it been advertised as a 3-star. Listing it and charging it as a 4-star is not quite legit. My expectations were far from being met. We were willing to dump the money, but the return was short, and at times, very short. I would recommend to stay away from the place if you are looking for quality, decent service and have a little more money for upgrade. I didn't look forward to dealing with all the hassles and baggage after spending what I felt was good money for a quality, reputable place. The place has the facade of a 4-star place, but really don't be fool by the look that you might regret later. If you are willing to overlook some things, has limited budget, or if you are just blah about quality room service - this hotel will be serviceable. But if service is what you look for, try elsewhere. read more

Stayed here in mid June for one night so my review may not be very informed, in terms of the crowd and overall amenities of the resort. For what I did see and experience I would say this is a nice hotel and at the right price would definitely recommend. The lobby is impressive and they have a nice bar which overlooks the pool which overlooks the ocean. I've stayed at the El San Juan a few times, I would not say this place is quite at that level, crowd is a bit different (saw more families here) but that could because I wasn't here during the tourist season. Last comments on probably the most important part, the room. They are quite spacious and mine came with a fridge. Décor wise it almost appears to be recently renovated - nice furniture, big flat screen TV, etch. What's odd and off putting was the bathroom. It was VERY small, and the look was very dated. Perhaps those are next in line for a renovation? I sure hope so because that would probably help in pushing this to a 4 star for me. read more

This is not a quiet hotel, so it is definitely not recommended if that's what you're looking for. The walls are very thin, you can hear the TV from the next room and you can also hear the music from downstairs on weekend nights. The staff was very accommodating and gave us free breakfast after we found bugs on the ceiling of our room (because we left the balcony door open - really our fault). The food at the restaurant near the beach was surprisingly good, and they had healthy options as well. The elevators can get really crowded and during peak times you may wait awhile. The annoying thing is the one stairwell I tried to go down doesn't even let you go to the lobby. Would I stay here again? I'd probably try something new, but it wasn't a bad experience. read more

Not bad, not great. The rooms were adequate enough, but had a few broken pieces here and there that I would not expect from a quality hotel. In particular, the meals and drinks are extortionate at this place. You can expect to pay $20 for a very average salad in a plastic box, and the same for a pre-packaged Boars Head sandwich. Drink at the pool are $13-$17 - way too expensive for all day drinking poolside. On two of the days we were there, they had ran out of pool towels and we had to go to the pool without and return an hour later. In all, it's just okay. There are other places for the same price that provide a better service. read more

Just stayed here this past week. Staff is friendly and helpful. Night guy Baron is amazing!!! First night there he suggested places to eat. Second day there he suggested bars locally that tourists go to but also suggested places that the locals go to as well for a different vibe. Hotel itself has its pits and peaks. Beautiful lobby. Small bar when you first walk in. A little overpriced but hey you're on vacation! Food is pretty good. The Japanese hibachi restaurant was delicious. Needs to up the ventilation tho as my hair and clothing stunk of oil after we left. The Italian restaurant on the lower level was delicious. They serve breakfast for the hotel in the morning. Fair warning. If you have a package deal with this hotel be sure to check if you get free breakfast or not. Made the mistake of not checking the fine print and had to shell out over $20 bucks for breakfast. Mi Casita across the street has amazing breakfast between $3 to $7 bucks. Rooms are what they're for. Sleep and showers. They all have tiny little balconies that were a nice bonus. I had the poolside view and was content. You can hear the ocean from there and it's so calming. The walls are a little thin, as you can hear conversations in adjacent rooms and whenever anyone is in the hallway. Pool is awesome. Different sections keep people from being on top of each other. There's a ledge where you can sit/lay in shallow water so you can relax in the pool but not be completely submerged. Hot tub is a little dingy but I assume it's from constantly being used. Swim up bar was a pleasant surprise as I tend to veer away from them on vacation due to mildew smells and sanitary reasons (alcohol and people refusing to leave the pool all day long - you do the math). However this was very well kept and clean. Service was a smidge slow but again, you're on vacation so I guess no need to rush. Overall, great stay. I would recommend going back if you're a couple looking for a getaway. Not much to do at the hotel itself, so be sure to ask the staff to help suggest places! read more

The staff will pull chairs out for you and they have a restaurant/bar with great food and drinks. POOLS --- There are a lot of them. Felix is by far the worst waiter I've ever had. Whoever hired him should be fired. Took 15 minutes to have anyone visit our table in their empty restaurant. There were bread plates on the table. We had to ask for bread three times while we watched other tables enjoy it. The bread never came. Our appetizer showed up before our bottle of Pinot noir. Then, after the appetizers were done, we were told not only do they not have the bottle we ordered, but they don't have ANY bottles of Pinot noir in house. Reminder: this is an Italian restaurant that promotes it's wine. My salmon was not cooked. It was obvious that it only didn't give me food poisoning because of its time under the warmer. My side of mushrooms were cold. My girlfriends lasagna was a bowl of mush. I realize I have no recourse here. This was an awful dinner to start the vacation we saved up for over six months. Don't bother telling me to call you so you can make it right. We both know you don't care, and if I were to call...no one would have any idea what I'm talking about. My best advice would to just not go here so the next restaurant and their crew of scam artists can come into this space. read more

My family (2adults + 2 teens) stayed here the last week in August. We had a package for a non-ocean view room, and I was shocked that we were not asked if we wanted to upgrade when we checked in. We were in room 401, with a lovely view of the dumpster. Try to avoid this one if you plan to look down. Beautiful palm tree view from the bed, but that's it. However, the balcony is only a step out in most of the rooms so it didn't make much difference in the long run. If we were to return, we'd opt for the concierge rooms which are a wing adjacent to the pool. These all have patios or a real balcony. The pool is gorgeous! Ample loungers, ample umbrellas, nice bar. All good. The kids had a blast. The beach is also wonderful. I walked the length of it (beyond the hotel area) one day and the hotel is definitely on the nicest section. Lots of families at the pool. The bars are very expensive. A martini and a beer cost $31. Much better to visit the Walgreens or Pueblo which are within walking distance and keep the beverages in the room fridge. No problem taking them to the pool or beach (no glass bottles though, however whether they would catch it or no is debatable). Staff overall were very pleasant and helpful. We ate in the Japanese steakhouse/hibachi restaurant. It was ok. We've had better and cheaper at home. read more

A beautiful lobby and an expansive pool area - and the location is primo. It sits right on the beach and is walking distance from numerous bars and restaurants. I guess, my issue is, I have been to other Intercontinental Hotel's and they are so much more glamorous. This location is like the older sister who is still trying to be sexy like her younger counterparts - riding her reputation, instead of her actual attributes. It's a decent option, but way too pricey for the actual product. There are other hotels that offer far more, in service and updates, in the same vicinity, for lesser monies. Beautiful hotel resort. The staff and service here is extremely friendly, courteous and kind...from reception to doorman...everyone here is very nice no question. The rooms are adequately sized...Both the king and double queen rooms. Some reviews I read said the bathrooms are small which they are, but not unreasonable. The only problem I see with regard to room is the lack of USB ports. Due to modern technology it would be a good idea to invest in USB ports in all rooms for most if not all guests likely have smart devices. The grounds are beautifully manicured and pool and beach area well maintained. This hotel resort is definitely worth staying at. My family and I are definitely enjoying our stay. I'm a frequent visitor to PR, and a recreational poker player, I went play in their casino. Their was a singer playing very loudly about 20 feet from the table, and even the dealer couldn't get their attention when the action was on them, due to the loudness of the music, and their response was a classic response, and now I might say typical of the casino. Beachfront location is nice (although it's a must to explore other beaches on the island!), the rooms were decent, but the hotel overall could use some updating and the elevators were a bit of a nightmare (fine when they are working, but most days at least 1 was out of service). The El San Juan Resort next door is much more lively, in better condition and a better fit for our family. read more

We stayed at the Intercontinental during our honeymoon and were disappointed for several reasons: 1. Mold in the bathroom--all around the sink and in the shower grout. 2. Holes in the wall (room 815) by the tv and burn marks on the wall near the coffee pot 3. Our "Laguna view" turned out to be a view of the front of the hotel 4. The balcony is a "step out," so it's pretty much useless 5. The room is outdated 6. The wifi is terrible--and they charge you an additional $20 per day for wifi that's a little better than the "basic" wifi you get for being an ICG member 7. The bed is firm, the duvet as pillows are subpar, not luxurious at all 8. The nickel and diming--a perfect example of this is the business center--I'm order to print our boarding passes, we had to pay $5 to use their computer plus an additional $1 per page to print the passes in black and white!! Seriously?! I've stayed at 4-star hotels and even Budget Inns and have NEVER been charged to print a boarding pass. 9. The bartenders made the weakest drinks and we're not friendly--$12 for a jack & coke that was mostly coke--very disappointing 10. No one explained to us that we needed a wristband, so the guards on the beach didn't want to let us back into the pool area after we swam at the beach because we didn't have the bands--super annoying because this could have easily been avoided with a little communication! The pluses: 1. Location 2. The beach 3. Dining options 4. Nice lobby and pool area Taking everything into consideration, we'd rather stay at the Caribe Hilton--it's not perfect either, but it was cleaner, more updated (in the main tower), had a proper balcony, hammocks, a private beach, comfy pillows and blankets, and was easier to navigate than the Intercontinental. read more

He greeted us before we could get out of the car Now we have been here for almost two hours and still no room normally we go next door to the El San Juan but we we came in August a lot was still under construction and needed work and since I have been wanting to try this place for years now I figured why not well I will tell you you why not!!!! We have no room I have never waited at the ESJ for a room maybe because I have been there so many times I don't know but I also think it is much cleaner and more accommodating even though they were not fully up and running they were running to do a much better job!!! Also I am adding to my review this is day 2 and nothing has seemed to improve Room was dirty and was not the room I paid for but they did not change or accommodate and second day at the beach and you don't get umbrellas they say they are courtesy but you don't get unless you pay waited yesterday until we paid still waiting today haven't paid yet and four people that came after I asked have those umbrellas!!!! 3.75 stars The upsides: The Intercontinental has a fantastic pool that, because of its weird curves and bends, affords those sitting around it a fair amount of privacy. The hot tub in the far corner is its own brand of heaven. And the rooms are comfortable (we stayed in the "club" section which I appreciated since it included continental breakfast which was more robust than most continental breakfasts, and the rooms were outside the big Intercontinental building which, at least on weekends, seemed noisy. The club rooms also each have a balcony or sitting area which makes for lovely evenings outside.) The beach is equally lovely (though, more umbrellas please). And the lobby is far tamer than the other hotels we went into on our trip here, though there's enough fantastic people watching to make sitting in the lobby worth your time. Bonus points for free wifi (yes!) in the lobby and the rooms. Downsides. The food in the hotel is categorically bad, especially at the beachside cafe. (So promise me, you will leave the hotel to get food. There are enough choices nearby that you need not be subjected to this food). The staff is generally unfriendly (with the exception of those working in the towel booth near the pool), and, often times unhelpful (our shower was draining at a snail's pace so it felt more like a bath than a shower, we called the front desk, they sent an engineer and he told us - as though it were our problem - that the drain was too small). The rooms do have this element of tiredness. They aren't ugly or bad or uncomfortable, they just seem like they could use a fresh coat of paint, some new carpeting, and the like. Finally, the check-in time is late (4PM), so chances are, you'll end up waiting for you room when you arrive. Finally, I should say, my experience was during off peak season, in November, when the pace of everything was delightfully slow and the resort was generally empty. read more

This place gets an extra star from me because the breakfast buffet is INCREDIBLE. The cook will sing a little Salsa song for you while he makes your omelet! I found all of the staff friendly and attentive. I had an ocean view so how much can I can't complain, really. Gym was decent, nice pool, excellent beach access. I take a star off for housekeeping. The were stingy with the toiletries and towels not replenishing unless asked and a couple of times it looked as if the room hadn't been really cleaned. read more

Stayed here for almost a week in early March. GROUNDS: Beautiful grounds (although El San Juan next door is even nicer). Great pool. Lots of palm trees, tropical plants, flowers, fountain, etc. Right on breezy palm-lined Isla Verde beach, which is not a great swimming beach, but still a beautiful beach (wading and sunning?) ROOMS: Oceanfront room on 12th floor. GREAT view.. Decent room, but needs some updating. A small patch of the tub was chipped and painted over. Part of bathroom doorknob broken. Furniture a bit worn. Warm comforter (down?), lots of pillows, comfy bed, white sheets. I wish this hotel had provided robes, I expect that with 4-star hotels branding as vacation "resort". Air conditioning was quiet. HOTEL Overall: Small casino, lots of penny and nickel slots, blackjack tables, a couple roulette tables, maybe carribean stud, no craps, pai gow, etc. Restaurant downstairs (Alfredo) is nice (order the shrimp/asparagus risotto and baked eggplant appetizer). Towels and cushioned lawn chairs provided in pool area. DRINKS: Drinks are expensive ($8-$15 cocktails), but pretty good. Pricing a little inconsistent. I had an apple martini in the early afternoon and it was $10, then later in the evening at same lobby bar it was $12. SERVICE: This is really the only area in which I was really impressed during my stay. Give it up for all the workers!! I MEAN, CONSISTENTLY FABULOUS SERVICE from the doorman to bellhop to room service to consierge day in and day out. REALLY REALLY GREAT SERVICE! MISC: Hotel charges 11% "resort fee" - inquire about this before booking. We booked a package through Costco Travel and it was included in our rate. Hotel also automatically adds tax and 15-20% gratuity to all bar (tax added to bar tabs), restaurant (even buffet breakfast) food and services. Local and toll-free calls are free. Free wi-fi. Overall, I had a pretty good stay, esp cuz the service was so outstanding, but I did feel a bit like I was being "nickel and dimed" esp since it is so expensive (we paid ~270/nite) already. Our package included the breakfast buffet everyday ($22/pp), but we ended up paying $5/pp every day out of pocket for tax and tip, which was automatically added to our bill... so the hotel kinda "gets you" still even though breakfast is suppose to be "free". Also, on the beach, you have to rent umbrellas from the hotel (not free, even for guests)... And I don't think I have ever gotten a bar tab with tax added... I dunno, maybe that's a government mandated thing... If I were gonna go back, I'd try to stay at the El San Juan instead, esp if prices are comparable. read more

I was a little wary of staying at the San Juan Intercontinental after reading a ton of so-so Yelp & TripAdvisor.com reviews, however, I must say we enjoyed a pleasant stay. The Pros: Friendly staff! Floored after seeing so many negative reviews on staff because everyone was SO pleasant and always said hello. During our stay, the storm knocked the entire hotel's power out and we enjoyed sandwiches and free drinks at the bar along with good comraderie amongst other guests. Pool was great! I literally couldn't figure out where I wanted to sit so I moved around a lot to get the place in the sun and maybe because we were there early in the week, didn't have to fight for a chair at any time. The gym -- unfortunately, I only used it once -- was efficient, clean and overlooked the ocean. What better view? The Cons: Tiny casino. Which actually isn't a total con for me because I don't exactly vacation to gamble and do it more as a novelty, so in that respect for me it was more entertaining than anything else. Food -- only ate there a couple of times and it was "meh". Let's be honest though, I was there for the cocktails and those were excellent!!! (however, EXPENSIVE!!!!!) Cost: Everything was a bit expensive. Thank goodness for a Walgreens down the road in either direction for snacks, water, and beer (which I brought onto the beach with me). Definitely a nice place to stay close to the airport -- a good intro to PR. Expensive to get to/from Old San Juan. Would I come back? Maaaaybe, but I would like to explore other parts of PR on a much longer, detailed trip. read more

Nice hotel overall. The room was decent size and clean. Stayed only one night so couldn't really enjoy all the amenities. My only pet peeve was the TV wasn't working that night. And they do charge a resort fee, didn't realize that until checkout. read more

We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel only one night and we picked it because it was close to the airport. It is a very nice hotel with a beautiful lobby and some great restaurants. The pool/beach area is also very nice with a lot of space and chairs. The rooms are large with a couch and sitting area. There is also a small balcony you can walk out on, not really enough room for chairs, but still nice to go outside and take in the views. Clean hotel and friendly staff. read more

This is a very nice hotel right on the beach. Great gym, casino and pool area. They just updated the lobby and it's really classy. I have stayed here over 20 times and I can say that I would recommend it. It's not an all inclusive type resort which IMO is a good thing. read more

Oh, dear. As guests we were not very well informed of the hotel's policies. I feel like we were kept in the dark about specific charges and it's so disappointed because it is my first time in Puerto Rico. There were multiple problems with check in, misinformation of hotel transportation, and especially parking. I'm normally very easy going, but do yourself the favor and check in somewhere else. I'm sad that this was my first impression of Puerto Rico. I have no desire to return sadly. I recommend anywhere else. read more

Arrived early unable to check in,and they didn't seem to concerned told me to leave my number at the desk. I explained my phone was not working and I will just check back. The lady who I later found out was the manger seemed rather annoyed and told me not to keep checking back just come back at 4 pm mind you it's 1230pm. The hotel ran out of "energy" and therefore had no wifi service while I waited. Later that night after checking in lost cable connections, the cable was not restored for at least 12 hours. If you're looking for that welcomed feeling don't go here ! read more
