We stayed for the 3rd time in April 2017 and were pleasantly surprised at the improvements and renovations. The mattresses are comfortably firm as are the pillows. I know it's a small thing but when paying top dollar, you should expect and demand the best. Same great service and Friday night Salsa is still the place to be. read more

Our room upon arrival was filthy and full of dead cockroaches. We obviously complained and was moved into another room. Although we received a free night stay, it was the way the staff and specifically the General Manager, Michael Herrmann, handled the situation; like it was no big deal, commonplace, like we were bothering them. Absolutely two thumbs down!!!! Rooms: I got there and spent the night in the bed, in the morning when I woke up, I noticed that the sheets were not changed and had stains on them. The coffee bags were not refilled. It means no one prepared that room for us prior to our arrival. In the morning I noticed that they gave me and my husband (in our late 20's early 30's and perfectly healthy) a handicap room. The room did not have a bath tub and the tiled under the shower were not slopped enough to drain the water. I took a shower and move the shower curtain and saw that the entire bathroom is full of water particularly in front of the sink where the hair dryer need to get plugged in to get used.!!! Absolute recipe for disaster!!!!! We came back at night and saw the there is a puddle of water right infront of the door. It seemed that the AC was sweating and water was dripping from the ceiling. Room Service: They leave a bottle of water in the room that gets replaced everyday and is $8/Bottle!!!! YES $8/REGULAR SIZE BOTTLE! If you order food in your room they charge $3 delivery fee (yes, you read that correct) plus %19 tip for each order. Regular movies on on-demand is $17. Architecture: They have a wet bar that does not get sun after 11 am. I am not sure who designed this place but wet bar is normally at the location that gets fun sun light all day, otherwise it gets cold. After 11 am you are pretty much freezing at the wet bar and you don't find anyone at the bar. Concierge: The actual check-in and check-out people were nice. The WORSE PERSON WAS THE TOUR LADY. OMG!!!! The rudest woman that I have ever dealt with on vacation and I travel a lot (at least once/year if not more). We asked her for information, with worse attitude she conveyed if you don't get the tour from me I don't give you information. And I was always under assumption that hotels are supposed to provide you with information on whereabout of places. But not this one. On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, we asked her for information on Bio Bay Tour (a must do and see place in Puerto Rico). She said that she doesn't have a tour and every other place is also closed on Thanksgiving and we won't be able to go to Bio Bay!!!!. Then she put back her glasses as if the conversation was over. My husband asked her if she is sure and she said I repeat, they are all closed. We started calling different tours and we found 2 that were open and ended up going to see Bio Bay tour on Thanksgiving. We went back and told her that, she said: "oh well, I didn't have a tour for you". This woman has curly long hair and wears glasses, she looks around 60 but might be younger and just look old. Not sure about her name. Breakfast: Our package included breakfast, but our agent called and said that the hotel changed its mind and don't want to provide you with breakfast. When we got there, they said $27/person for breakfast!!!! REALLY????? Also, if you want to stay an hour more in the hotel after the check out time it costs $75 until 4 pm. I DID NOT HAVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PLACE AND WILL NOT RETURN. read more

Not to beat a dead horse, but as some other reviewers have said this place looks tired. It is definitely well past it's prime. The dreary hallways look like they havent been touched since the 80's, seriously. The only saving grace is that the rooms seem to have been renovated a lot more recently than the rest of the place. the beds were comfy, but only 2 pillows, 2 towels, and no robes. I thought this was a beach resort? could go on and on but the overwhelming feeling is that they are making as much cash as they can while putting as little as possible back into the place. If you decide to stay here you will see what I mean. It is way overpriced for what it is. Plus once you add in the "resort fee" which gives you access to the pool, breakfast and a few drinks at the pool you are easily dropping 400 a day including the room. Save your money, go to an all inclusive somewhere else. Actually, just avoid San Juan if you are looking for a relaxing vacation where you feel taken care of and you are going to get what you pay for. I've done Mexico tons of times and wanted to change it up and try something new, bad idea. And apparently this hotel is one of the best, yikes. Adios Puerto Rico won't be coming back. read more

Mold. The smell of mold on your anniversary getaway. Continuously and constantly. I have one more day in this hellhole. My first trip to Puerto Rico and I can't stay in the hotel. Here comes the best part. I am a spire elite IHG member. Which means I spent 269 NIGHTS last year at this brand. However we were unable to get rooms in time and some of our friends were coming as well. They booked an extra room via Expedia. I asked if I could go to the lounge but they wouldn't accommodate me for a bottle of water at the front desk. Hotels hate when you book from off sites. Especially IHG. They boast that they will match any price for a room. Hey, this week when I check out I am going on the road for work again right away yup - IHG brand locations. How about a room service menu? Nope. Can we get one? Sure. 45 minute wait. Seriously pushing the limits here. It's like, here is a completely abandoned room for you suckers thinking you're getting a deal. This is making me reconsider pulling all my status from this brand. Yes. My boyfriend was tired last night and said he didn't want to change rooms. We were knocked out so here we are in a stinky horrible mold smelling room. The good news? We spent 14 hours outside the room. Now hanging in the rain because of course we are waiting for them to spray the room. Shame on them. Perhaps they would comp us a breakfast? Perhaps? An offer for a bottle of water? Noooooooo. The dates rugs, crappy bathroom all I could live with but the stinky smelling room greeting you at 1 am - unforgivable. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here...not just because it was our honeymoon and they upgraded us to a beautiful ocean view suite :) , but because the hotel really fits the 4 star resort ratings, along with all the amenities being offered. The resort is right on the beach and there's always cabana boys running around to ensure you have a lounge chair and umbrella waiting if there isn't already one there waiting for you on the sand. And if the beach isn't for you, then there's a pool area with more than enough lounge chairs that surround it. There's a jacuzzi and a swim-up bar, too! What's really great is that the pool and jacuzzi is 24 hours, so if you can't sleep...you can enjoy a little dip! We totally took advantage of the workout room, which was very well equipped with enough cardio and weight machines, along with free weights, too. Every cardio machine had a tv and all the machines faced the ocean...why wouldn't you want to workout?!!! The restaurants are good, but pricey. They do have a Mediterranean beachside cafe where the food is pretty reasonable. What's also nice is the hotel is within walking distance to fast food places like Burger King, Subway, and Wendy's. There's also a restaurant across the street called Mi Casita that serves really good local food at a very affordable price. Although, the beaches in Puerto Rico are all public, this hotel always seems to keep their side of the beach very clean...overall, the grounds of the hotel itself is very well maintained. Their staff members are very nice and eager to help. Concierge service was excellent...we always knew where to go and how to get to places we wanted to see. Old San Juan is only a 30 minute bus ride away, too!!! This hotel does offer a casino, but for the most part, it is a laid back and conservative hotel to stay. Right next door is the El San Juan Hotel which offers a livelier lobby experience...certain nights they offer lounge music for mellow listening and other nights they have a DJ for dancing. What a fabulous resort, located right on the ocean! The pool is exquisite with a swim up bsr, waterfall and quite large! Hot tub, another outdoor bar and Grill, fire pit all outside to enjoy. They have a casino inside and a great Italian restaurant as well. The rooms are great, spacious with great views from either side with a balcony!! The staff gave it the 5 stars. Had a blast over 4 days/3 Nights at the Intercontinental. The pool is one of the best in San Juan and also the frozen drinks being served directly to your chair on the beach were divine. Some issues with the elevators, but whatever, I can wait 1-2 more minutes. The rooms were very clean and spacious. I had a city view which was really good enough for my girlfriend and I as we were not in the room much. Definitely better dining in the surrounding area and next door at El San Juan you have fun bars and clubs...OH and room service food was greatly priced and very good and available 24 hours! I have been to PR over 15 times and I have no complaints at all about Intercontinental...it is a marvelous choice for a romantic getaway in a great location with flawless service, cleanliness and amenities (except for elevator issues). This is the type of place where you have a great room, great pool, great beach but you go elsewhere to gamble, party and dine. Yet if you want a Resort that you never leave the premises, go to Dominican Republic...San Juan is all about adventuring around the city. You can't go wrong here, it is one of the top 3 in San Juan (granted I'm not a fan of any of the hotels in Old San Juan). read more

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. We had to change the room once because the smell of mold was unbearable. Second room was just as bad. The air conditioning wasn't working properly - the floors were consistently wet and carpet humid - cleaning crew did a very poor job at daily cleaning ( they're not taking the trash out or change your towels. The only thing they really do is your bed and that's about it) I don't know how this hotel kept his 4 starts. Even a 3 star hotel is more updated and better conditions Needless to say never coming back here again read more

Amazing property. Top-notch service. Lovely beach access with complimentary lounge chairs. Great location in Isla Verde. Modern, tastefully-decorated spacious rooms. Swim-up pool bar. Only gripe is that the bathroom is way too small. But the space the bathroom lacks is found in the rest of the room which includes a nice pull-out sofa, a desk area, and a small but usable balcony. Cannot wait to go back, and this will definitely be the go-to hotel for trips to PR. **We were there during the renovations, which is taking place on the first floor lobby area. Stayed 7 nights, and construction only occurred during typical business hours 9am-5pm, M-F. They DID NOT work on the weekends at all. If you are busy out and about exploring PR or even just the hotel's pool/beach and not cooped up in your room then you will not be bothered.** read more

Love love loved staying here. The location of the hotel, the cleanliness, friendly staff, waking up to the ocean view every morning...just a great time. We arrived early and were allowed to check in at noon. Score! The room was facing the ocean, and we were on the very last floor..16th. According to my husband, he expected a larger room...I was fine. The room seemed a little dated, bed was not comfy, but who cares...we came to party. Room service was prompt and yummy, get the grilled chicken. Every shot/drink and sandwich was stupid pricey, but again...it's called a vacation! read more

I miss me some sunny Puerto Rico, especially every time I walk outside and the 10 degree wind attacks me. I just got back from a 5 night/4 Day stay at the lovely InterContinental San Juan Hotel and Resort. The check-in process was quick and friendly. The staff at the hotel were all super friendly and welling to go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. I really enjoyed the fact that they made it a habit of remembering our names, so when we walked around the hotel it felt more homey. Room: We had a suite and the room was very clean and spacious. The bed was super comfy and I feel in love with the duvet cover, slept like a baby after a night out. Unfortunately, our view was of the main road, next time we'll definitely need an ocean view. Extra perk: Free wifi and amenities like iron and blow dryer were a plus. Casino: Not a huge venue but a fun place to start before you hit the town. We had some cocktails while hitting up the slot machines. The also have blackjack and poker tables, I stayed clear from them. Swimming Pool and Beach Access: The swimming pool area was fairly big with a nice hot tube, a waterfall, and a bridge to swim under. The landscape was amazing as well, all the palm trees and cabanas really made the area seem like a fantasy. The best part was the swimming pool area was the pool bar, yup you can swim and drink at the same time. They made the best pina coladas with lots of rum. The only tricky part was getting a chair by the pool, lots of people so you have to get creative. If the pool is full then you can walk a few steps and lay out by the beach. The hotel is beach front and they offer beach chairs and umbrellas for free, super nice. The water is beautiful and the sand feels great. Meals: I would suggest to eat around the hotel area because the meals at the hotel restaurants were very expensive. Luckily, our room included free breakfast so we enjoyed the large buffet style breakfast, but if it wasn't free we would have been charged $24/person. However, the up side of not eating at the hotel is you get to try the ethnic foods around the area, try Viejo San Juan one night for dinner. Staff: Everyone had a smile and were always eager to help. Room I have been to Puerto Rico a few times and stayed in a few different hotels. I have to say that the Intercontinental is one of my favorites. The rooms are all updated and well-kept. The position of the bed is looking straight into the ocean. The Ocean View suites have a marvelous view from the balcony. Has huge flat screens, a vanity area, all the pillows I wanted. The hotel staff is very friendly. We got the newspaper for free every morning if you are part of the Hotel International club. You also get to enjoy the private club house for free, if you are a member. I suggest you join. Business If you are in Puerto Rico for leisure time, you might want to avoid this hotel. One time I was there for just on vacation not business and saw a few people from back home. eww ... "Just walk the other way". Puerto Rico isn't big and everyone knows this is the place to be... Hotel great for business conferences and events. Dining The location of the hotel on Isla Verde is the ideal location. It is part of a strip of hotels as well as many dining venues. If you are looking to save money on dining, do not dine at the hotel, it is pricey... but if you are dining in, I recommend Momoyama. Good Japanese food, including a variety of seafood, beefs, chicken... I also did the restaurant chain Ruth's Chris. Yes, it is pricey but the steak is delicious there and the wine list was superb. I like to do a nice dinner the first night of my vacation and the last. Everything in between is local. There are plenty of local and fast food restaurants walking distance. Relaxing If you want to relax, the pool is nice and big with a beautiful waterfall. The beach is beautiful, great for swimming and great views. You can even hear the coqui in the pool area. At night the has many different areas to just lounge. Very romantic if you are there with your partner. Attractions This hotel is close to the airport and only 15min to the historic sights of Old San Juan. El Yunque Rain forest, zip-lining, kayaking, boat rides, hiking, etc....All tours can be booked by the hotel or you can rent a car as we did and visit everything yourself. Night Life There are clubs and bars outside the hotel but I don't really know how nice they are or what to expect.... but if you are looking for night life take a cheap cab ride into old San Juan for plenty to do... Or right next door at El Hotel San Juan resort and casino, they always have entertainment in the Jazz club in their lobby and the dance club inside. My friends and I had a great time! read more

One of the very worst hotel experiences. After waiting a good 20-25 minutes in line to check-in, we were looking forward to finally making it up to our room. Good luck getting there quickly - it appears as though the entire hotel has 2 small elevators to service the rooms. Room was fine - I guess what you would expect for a lower end InterContinental - definitely not one of their nicer properties. But the guests around us really ruined our stay. On our way out to dinner we spoke with the front desk, even offered to switch rooms due to the obscene amount of noise/partying. They told us no no no, it's okay, they will "take note". Later on when we came home there was still music blaring, bass pumping, and party goers living it up. Now, we all want to have fun on our vacation. I can't say that I haven't woken up a sleepy hotel neighbor at some point in my past... but I really hold management responsible for our terrible experience; they had the opportunity to move us when the ghetto dance party started (which, by the way, ensued until almost 4am), but clearly had no regard or resolution for our initial complaint. Even after the 3am phone call (after the party moved to the hallway outside our room), the front desk could really care less about our sleep. Stay here at your own risk. Or if you plan to bring the ghetto with you, it seems as though the hotel can be very responsive to your needs. read more

This is a fabulous hotel. It is on the beach in Isla Verde, and 10 minutes from the airport. The exterior looks like it is from 1970 but the interior is completely refurbished (including all of the guest rooms, elevators, hallways, etc). Reasonable rates ($150 per night at last minute booking) and great service as well as great food. There is even an amazing Ruths Criss attached to this hotel! Walking distance to decent Puerto Rican restaurants and a great pool area for mojitos and margaritas! If you get a chance- GO HERE! Taxi ride from airport is $12 plus $1 per bag. Rain forest is only about a 45 minute drive away, too! read more

This is a comfortable hotel with clean rooms and a courteous staff. We've stayed other Intercontinental hotels in the caribbean, so I was expecting no less than the others. I was hoping that my upgrade would be of the ocean views, but instead was sent up to a higher floor and had the city. Actually, the view was not horrible. We could see the Puerto Rico river with the bridge that connects to the other side of the island. Our room was clean and the housekeeping staff was excellent. Our room smelled fresh everyday after it was cleaned...never musty in such a humid environment. The A/C worked great! We stocked our fridge with water and soda, so we had drinks on-hand at any time of the day. The pool and waterfalls was nice, swim up bar served up some tasty pina coladas and appetizers. The beach was cool, just too much seaweed close to shore otherwise the water was warm and relaxing. The only complaint I have is the fact they checked us out of our room a day early thus locking us out of our room as we're dripping wet from coming back from the pool and having to wait for someone from the desk to get us access back into our room. The front desk apologized, but didn't offer anything for this inconvenience...checking us out and locking us out a day early?? At least kick down a free cab ride to the airport or something. I would stay at this hotel again, but would love to try El San Juan next door. We enjoyed ESJ's casino - better than Intercontinental's casino. read more

I am giving this hotel one star because of the following: we are in 11th floor facing ocean. Food: sad.. ordered supreme salsa.. not good for $14 or $12. Japenese rest.. it is not japenese. Room: everytime you shower, water gets all over the floor. They shoulg have the walk in shower floor lower than the main floor. You have to request extra towel to clean up. There is no refrigerator in room. They have one but it stored soda and beer for a price. There is a sensor so travel with kids is tough. Balcony... if u are traveling with kids.. it is very scary to open it..the bars are wide enough for w kiid to sqeeze through. Beach.. you walk straight to the beach.. it is clean but there are no shade.. umbrella cost is $10 a day. Distance.. 15 min cab from airport. Cost was $15 with 2 luggage. Pool- two small pool.. For $189 a night, it id definately not worth it. I will never return. read more

I am partial to this Intercontenental location because we stayed here during our first visit to PR. It was The Americana then, newer of course, and we had a wonderful time. They have remodeled a lot and generally updated rooms. The great service remains and you can't beat the beach being just out the door. When we go to the islands it is for sunshine and swimming. Been all over Old San Juan several years and now prefer to rest, sunbathe, swim, eat and drink. The Isla Verde neighborhood is topped in the amount of green space, trees and plants only by the Rain Forest. Be sure to visit the Rain Forest (tours available) during your stay. The hotel is ON the beach and the best value for a beach location in all of San Juan. So nice to just step out the door and walk on sand. Lounge chairs, umbrellas and even beach towels are provided at no charge. There is also a really nice pool with bar while you swim and they will bill your room. Three restaurants inside and a casino. If you are a serious gambler and like a lot of nightlife, take a walk next door to the El San Juan hotel. It's only a few feet and perfectly safe. Security is about and even elderly couples walk safely. Enjoy your stay! read more

You know that person that you really try to like but whatever you do, you can't warm up to them? That's how I felt about my stay at the InterContinental. Whats worse is that my mom had me pick a hotel and I wasn't allowed to choose a hotel we had already stayed in since we have visited PR several times. I seriously chose this over the St. Regis because I didn't want to be far from the airport. Sheesh....keep reading. First, I was optimistic about our stay because as soon as we arrived at the hotel, a very friendly bellman approached our car with a sincere welcome and warm smile. He took our bags for safekeeping and said he would deliver them to our room. So far so good. We approach the check-in desk to check in. Imagine our dismay when we were told that the Club Intercontinental wing was closed because a tree was damaging a pipe that lead to the area. Nowhere is this mentioned on their website, nor was it mentioned when we called prior to our stay to inquire about rates directly from the hotel. Our whole reason for booking that particular room was to have an actual patio/balcony to sit on (because my mother and I like relaxing on the balcony), not the european balcony where you can only walk out, look around and walk back in. We could have cared less about the "perks" that came with the room, which, after talking to some regulars, said have been watered down quite a bit. The girl at the desk goes to get the manager who basically says "oh we moved all Club people to floors 15 and 16" yeah we don't care about that...just put us in a regular room and refund the extra money that was paid for the room type. "but you still get the club amenities"...yeah we don't care, please refund us the difference. So we were told it would be refunded. We get to the room and its a decent room-but I notice that the water was lukewarm. I noticed while we were checking in that someone called downstairs to say they had no hot water. So I was not surprised by this..apparently it was a hotel-wide issue. We noticed we had very tiny ants on our nightstand...at least that's what we think they were. Don't know. Called down to alert the front desk about it and she says that we would have to leave the room for 45 minutes while they exterminate the room. Imagine our surprise when housekeeping came up literally with a spray bottle and a rag-we walk out the room and we didn't even make it to the elevator before she said we could come back to the room. Extermination? Pretty sure that wasn't an extermination. The bathroom is so very basic compared to the rest of the room. It is as if they renovated the rooms and didn't touch the bathroom. Went down the next morning for breakfast because breakfast was included in our rate. "Breakfast" that is included in the rate only includes omelettes,eggs, meats (bacon/sausage) and pancakes plus the continental breakfast items. They had other items that, if I were at any other hotel, would have also been included because breakfast is breakfast. Nerp. That was okay though. We had a wonderful server two out of the four days we ate breakfast named Francisco that was very polite and intuitive to our needs. The third day it was like everything broke loose because we had issues with ordering food the next couple of days but we got it straightened out. To go to the beach you have to get a wristband from the towel hut. You get free chairs but have to pay for the umbrella...ok. Beach was nice. It is a public beach. Didn't get to try the pool but it looks nice. Had lunch at the restaurant on the beach. The chicken quesadilla was very yummy and filling. Happy hour....nope. Especially for what they have for "club members". You can only get the house beer or wine and those were not that great tasting. The cookies are good. *shrug* They gave us free drink tickets at check in and my mom and I saved these until our last day here...imagine our dismay when we got to the desk to see that the free drinks were yet again the same crappy wine. They could have kept that. *yuck* Housekeeping...meh. It wasn't consistent from day to day. The walls are THIN!! You hear EVERYTHING!! We figured out on day 3 that we haven't been having water placed in our room. We went downstairs and asked for it and it was given to us with no incident. Tonight, when asked for it you would have thought they had to conduct an act of God to get us some bottled water. The manager proceeds to tell us that only ambassador members get bottled water. My mom had to tell them that on her reservation it said we were to get bottled water each day. At that point they gave us the water and said they would make sure it would be in the room the next day. Doesn't matter now because we will be gone the next day. Check your bill before you leave!! I really wanted to give this hotel a great rating, especially since the staff is so nice and polite-most of them anyway. But the front desk staff and other idiosyncrasies took away from that. read more

We stayed at this property over Thanksgiving break (total of 4 nights) - 2 couples, early 30's. The hotel itself is conveniently located close to the airport however is a 15/20 minute cab ride from Old San Juan (where we spent most of our time). The hotel lobby was nice, welcoming and offered plenty of seating for people watching and grabbing a drink. It got crowded most nights but the energy level seemed a bit low to me. The service was wasn't that great at the lobby bar (inside or outside). We found the drinks and apps were never consistent as the night before and it took a long while to get a drink (even if it was just water). The guest rooms were nothing spectacular but were clean and serviced daily. The bathroom was a bit small, but there was a small counter outside the bathroom which we appreciated. The hotel is right on the beach and has a good size pool with swim-up bar. We didn't get to utilize the pool area much as it rained, but it plenty of chairs to go around and the swim up bar seemed like it would have been good. Although the one time we were able to use it, the service was uber slow. I get that we're on vacation etc... but I would just like to be at least greeted. The ocean was swimmable also. We didn't find the restaurants on property to be anything all the exciting (pricey for what you get) - the best of the bunch was the restaurant located on the beach (can't recall the name). Certainly not fancy food, but quick bites. We did not frequent the casino, but we did step inside to check out - small and crowded. We had a nice stay here, but if we return to San Juan we'll likely look for a different hotel closer to Old San Juan. Upon check out were charged a resort fee of approx $49 per day, as well as a Shelter in a Storm charity fee of $1 per day. You can request this charge to be removed from your bill if you prefer. We opted to keep it there, but didn't appreciate that it was just added with question. I would have been more inclined to support the charity if I had been asked first. Do your research, and plan out your trip before picking your hotel; you'll save on wasted cab fare if you are planning to spend more time in the Old San Juan area. read more

Just got back from adventures in Puerto Rico. We spent the first two nights of our trip at this Intercontinental in San Jaun. If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. This hotel is a great spot for passing through; tons of pilots and flight attendants coming in and out; very conveniently located close to the San Juan airport. The pool was great and there were a lot of entertainment amenities on the beach. I found that the jet skis, banana boat, etc. were all reasonably priced activites. Drinks around the pool were fair in price as well, especially for a beachfront resort. The rooms were a bit dark and dismal, but did the trick for a few nights. There are several connecting restaurants and other places along the strip to easily access if you are looking to leave the grounds. One thing that bugged me was that the gift shop downstairs closes at 11 PM; after that, there is nowhere to get a bottle of water, soda, etc. You have to physically leave the premises. Very pretty beach and extremely friendly and attentive staff. I'd probably try someplace else next time around, but this did the trick for the first couple evenings on our excursion. read more

very nice hotel out here in Carolina puerto rico. the hotel is beautiful very nice looking. everything is very clean and neat. you have access to the pool.sauna/gym/beach as well. if you want to use the beach chair and umbrella they give you a wristband to take out there and user their equipment. you need to use your key card from your room to get into the elevator. the rooms are very nice spacious, the balcony is a bit small but has a great view of the street area looking down. The snacks and beverages inside the room ARE EXPENSIVE i think a SMALL bottle of pringles was 4.50 i can go across the street to walgreens and get the long tall can for 2.50. you can go out to the strip and get some good puerto rican food. They have free wifi as well in the hotel and its very slow but its free so you cant complain really. When me and my wife checked out they charged us a bill for buying snacks! when we didnt even purchase anything. so we have to put a counter to dispute the charge. it was Ridiculous. read more

So, the location of this space is great if you want to be close to the airport and the beach. We stayed in room 1628 on the 16th floor and had a great ocean view. A couple of tips, the concierge, Nestor is so NEGATIVE! Traveling with two other young women, he kept inserting notes of caution about safety, offered unsolicited feedback about sold out tours we didn't even want to go on and generally gave off an aloof attitude. The service staff on the other hand was great, loved Jose and the chair guys. Getting beach chairs is a bit of a hassle...just remember these guys are busting their butts! The buffet breakfast and beachfront lunch spot are not worth the cost but who wants to leave the beach. The beach is beautiful and if you stay, a great chill lunch spot is over at La Playita, which serves a wild rum cocktail! read more

My family has been going to the Intercontinental for 3 years now after staying at the nearby El San Juan for 2 decades. However, the El San Juan got new owners and we did not like the direction the hotel began to go in. We are nothing but happy with our decision to change hotels. The people at the Intercontinental have been extremely helpful and polite and we are already looking forward to next year's trip. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the proximity to the beach is a great draw. We had lunch most days at the restaurant that overlooked the beach and it was so fun to people watch. My fiance was happy with the gym, and we all enjoyed the free afternoon bingo. I think the only drawback to the hotel is that the casino is on the small side, but we aren't big gamblers so it's fine for us. We stayed in the Club Level which was extremely nice. One of our rooms was a suite which was spacious and comfortable. The Club Level provides complimentary breakfast in the mornings, snacks in the afternoon, and a cocktail hour in the evening. All of the employees are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are nice and clean, the pool area couldn't have been better, and the beach was right out front.. beautiful. The spa was also very nice. The only thing I'd complain about is the food. It was pretty low grade and way too expensive (especially breakfast). Everything else was wonderful and I'd definitely return. read more

Our visit got off to a rocky start. Our room was wrong (it happens) and then they put us in a room that smelled like smoke. Finally after three trips up and down we got what we asked for. The drinks are outrageously expensive but that could be expected. The front desk women "Brenda" wasn't helpful at all. Like I was bothering her when seeking help. The women at the Avis desk was terrific! Certainly made up for Brenda. Very helpful, very polite, very good service greeting me a car for the day. Elevators. Very slow! A common complaint with many of the guests we came in contact with. Lobby bar and food. Good but expensive. Beach. Nice! read more

Well we just returned from our trip last night and my Wife and I had an amazing time at the Intercontinental. We were deciding between this hotel and the El San Juan and are happy we chose this place. The hotel looks newly renovated, very modern, very clean, and was just amazing. The service was AMAZING, hotel staff always opened the doors for you, were very polite, and made sure you were completely happy. This hotel has beautiful balconies so i would suggest upgrading to the ocean view as we did. It was great. The rooms were very clean, the whole hotel was clean. The landscaping was beautiful and made you feel a million miles away. The coqui's were singing every night through the whole resort. The pool area was beautiful and the swim up bar was a nice addition, the ONLY downfall was that the pool was NOT heated and was pretty cold. The ocean (which is typically cool) was warmer than the pool. I have heard all the surrounding pools are heated, not here. As with most hotels, the food was very expensive. I would suggest venturing out and getting food elsewhere as we did. There are a few options walking distance that was very good, including Mia Casita for breakfast/lunch/dinner and was priced right. Old San Juan is just a 15 minute taxi ride away or take the bus right out front for .75. Overall it was GREAT! If you are considering this hotel and the El San Juan next door let me just say the El San Juan is a very "vintage" hotel. Not modern at all and has the decor and looks of a very old rustic hotel, although beautiful, it wasnt for us. They also do not have walk out balconies at the El San Juan as our hotel did, so another downfall. read more

Service : Great very polite and informative. Hotel it's nice like a big pool water slash forest park and walk straight out to the beach if preferred. Gym nice and clean with a spa. Has restaurants very pricey so watch out. Towels and beach towels available Pool needs to be cleaned but it's very big had hot jacuzzi. Different sections of the pool Rooms: Bathrooms are small very, needs some upgrading smelled slightly moldy. The rooms small decent but smelled moldy. However everyday they cleaned room bed, new towels, etc. There's a lot of restaurants around so explore before eating in the hotel. It's expensive in the hotel. I would recommend to come here. It's close to the airport, have to take a cab right outside of the hotel to Old San Juan 21 dollars however buses are available outside also. For 75cents can't beat that. Please upgrade on the rooms it was a nice stay, bathrooms can be more cleaner as far as maintenance. The toilette flushed once can not flush right after the other not sure if it was just our room. The tub at one point made a waiter stain. Besides that good stay. Wifi is horrible but yes it's free to get online for 5 mins. read more

We spent two days having fun here. Everyone was so amazing, we rented umbrellas and chairs, went to the beach, rented jet skis etc.Jesus was a great addition to cocktails and lunch beachside. So today we go back to rest before a long 375 mile. Ike ride around the island tomorrow and we rent 2 umbrellas at $20 and chairs are $5 each. We spend 4 hours, go to the restaurant and eat and when we go to leave the security stops us and asks for arm bands. We show him our receipt, we then show him our parking ticket, try to explain we are trying to leave and we just need to go back through. He wouldn't let us through! Our waiter tries to talk to him, nothing! Bad attitude, unprofessional and really not necessary. We had to walk around all of the buildings to go back to the front to get our car from valet area. We loved the hospitality of most but to be treated so badly we will go somewhere else. There are LOTS OF HOTELS where when they take your money they have good customer service! read more

This is one of my all-time favorite hotels. The environment is very classy and upscale. The rooms could use updating. Although slated as a resort for "families", it really is more suited for couples or business travel. The restaurants are above average in quality and prices. The small casino has most of everything you would need for casual gambling--degenerate gamblers look elsewhere. The pool is one of my favorites in San Juan and they also have beachfront. The only issue that I've had during my 3 separate visits is that once, the staff did nothing about children in the hot tub whirlpool that distinctly said there was an age limit. Stayed here several times with my fiancé. Nothing but great things to say. Atmosphere is excellent, staff is extremely friendly and the rooms are great. Highly recommend going into Old San Juan for an evening, $25 fixed cab ride with tip... Also pack a little cooler for the pool, there is a little store across the street that sells beer & alcohol. To start off, go to another hotel if you want decent room service!!! First, let's start with the room. Trashy view, very small and slippery terrace, and weak, shoddy handrails. Menu button on TV did not work for us which is sad considering that is the first button that the TV tells you to press when you turn it on. Housekeeping broke our sink while we were out and didn't even leave a note to warn us. Called to have it fixed at and it took an hour and as well as a second call to get someone to come up and fix it. We called for a menu at 10pm, 11pm, 1215am, and kept getting transferred around from the front desk to the room service department and finally got through to them after multiple calls. They offered a menu to which I declined after waiting for hours with no food or drink. If it took that long for a menu then imagine how long it would take for actual food and drinks. Asked for a manager which they said was going to call me right back.. Of course no callback but they did send some poor girl to deliver a menu after I told them not to bother. So now we have liars working here as well as incompetence. To top it off, our sliding doors on our closet are broken and barely stick to their rails. The gym is small but adequate. The door staff are great. The pool is nice however the pool bars are closed by 10pm ON A SATURDAY NIGHT which is ridiculous. My fiance and I will not be returning here after our stay is over not will we recommend this place to our friends. Stayed here while I visited San Juan during spring break! Lovely, lovely hotel. Spacious. Clean. Aesthetically pleasing. Right next to the beach. Pools open practically all night.* Canopies available at no extra cost.** Staff was polite and quite helpful.*** Public transportation (el bus) that takes you to Old San Juan passes right by the front of this hotel. Elevators are surprisingly small but very beautiful. Their towel exchange system is quite silly and not conducive to saving time, especially when you're rushing to the beach. Check-in was a bit late in the afternoon but they did let me and my friend change into our swimsuits and go swimming. They also have a gym-- I enjoyed the ocean view!***** If you're in the Isla Verde area and plan to stay there I would definitely suggest this hotel! If you're looking for a party bumping area to stay at-- this is NOT your place. I think this place really catered to a more calm and collected vacationer but it was refreshingly relaxing. P.S.
