I did not have the chance to stay at this hotel, however, I booked a room for one night and unfortunately due to severe weather conditions in southern Florida, all flights to San Juan were canceled. I contacted the hotel and spoke with multiple agents including management. The manager was rude and not helpful in regards to issuing a refund for the room. I was informed that because I prepaid for the room, no matter the circumstance, they refuse to provide a refund. I offered to send proof of my flight cancellation and they declined while sounding annoyed and unwillingly to help. I am very disappointed in the way they treated me and that I lost the money for the room and my vacation was ruined due to the weather. read more

Beautiful resort with nice rooms, pool, and a few restaurants. It's in a really convenient area with a bunch of places to eat and shop and only a 10 minute drive from the airport. It's so expensive though! Drinks not cheaper than $12 and I paid $17 for a few chicken wings. We enjoyed it but everything was ridiculously overpriced in the hotel. Most of the staff was very nice and attentive. I went at the end of August so it was rather empty and not a lot of kids because school was right around the corner. I enjoyed this hotel my only complaint would be about it's crazy prices. read more

Clean rooms, great lobby, great bar. We did have issue with the TV when we there it took two days to fix the cable also without any knowledge they charge $40.00 per night for a third guest. I love this hotel. I've stayed here going on fifteen times now and it's always my first choice in san juan. I've also stayed at the El San Juan next door and it's great but the Intercontinental is an overall better experience for me personally. I prefer the rooms, the bathrooms, the lobby, the pool and beach set-up, and the general atmosphere. I also prefer the Japaneses restaurant here to the similar one in the El San Juan. The Intercontinental is a slightly more conservative atmosphere, and the rooms are decorated a little more traditionally. The rooms in the El San Juan are very modern, which is fun, but not my thing. The only negative here is the breakfast buffet. I hate breakfast and I hate bad, greasy food. Especially overpriced bad, greasy food. So perhaps I'm biased. But it's yuck. Luckily there is a full Starbucks next door in the El San Juan. I usually grab a latte and a yogurt or muffin. Unfortunately, if you try to enjoy it in the lobby, poolside, or anywhere other than the privacy of your room, the staff has a problem with that. I find that kind of policing unacceptable in an upscale hotel, particularly when there is no competing coffee shop on the premises. This is not a discount movie theatre. I would be happy to patronize a different brand if they choose to offer it, but as long as they don't, I'll be going next door to Starbucks and I highly recommend anyone else do the same. We have stayed at several hotels in the San Juan area and the Intercontinental is falling behind when it comes to luxury and comfort. There are definitely better options if you are booking a 4 star hotel. The staff need better training. For the price, I'd rather stay at the Ritz-Carlton which is located down the road from the Intercontinental. read more

I wish we could add a half star to this rating. The hotel was very nice, most of the staff was very friendly, the only one that wasn't was a snarky concierge that was unhelpful and borderline rude when we tried to book a rain forest excursion. The location was situated nicely on the beach and close enough to the airport that you weren't stuck in a cab for long. Bottled water was over the top expensive if you bought it on site. I expected the Intercontinental to be perfect for our anniversary. It was a stressful mess. Three days before our trip, we received an email saying the hotel is under construction. We called travelocity, who called the hotel and spoke to the operator, Coralys. Coralys supposedly told travelocity that there would be no construction the week we are there. On the contrary, the hotel is under major construction. Buzzsaws and hammering all day long (starts at 7am). In addition, the casino is being re-done so the entire lobby is a cloud of paint fumes. Emailed travelocity. Rep never fully read my email. He referenced the original call with Coralys who said the construction was over. I called travelocity again. Customer Service is in India which is a painful experience. The guy asked if we are calling about our trip to Newark. I said no, we came from Newark, we're in Puerto Rico. I told him about the construction and the guy said 'well, what do you want me to do?'. I said you're my travel agent. You tell me what to do. I gave up and called back Monday. The Customer Service guy on Monday conferenced in the hotel manager (Edgar) who said he'll refund us for the unused days if travelocity finds us another hotel. Travelocity could only find us more expensive hotels. Edgar offered to move us to a room on the other side of the hotel. Edgar also told me they notified travelocity of the construction and he doesn't know why travelocity never updated their site. He said construction was running one month behind. We accepted his offer to switch rooms. He said to wait and he'll be right up. We packed up our stuff and waited 30 mins. He never came. We went to the front desk who said another issue came up that Edgar was working on. He should have called us. The new room had a better view, but wasn't any quieter. We kept hearing hammering as late as 8PM. However, we couldn't determine where it was coming from. The workers weren't outside doing construction so we think there must have been a room renovation going on. The manager denied this. Yet, we did see paint being wheeled into rooms so something was going on. Also note that the elevators are slow. As long as ten minutes for it to arrive. We never got the elevator on the right so we assume it's broken. We paid the regular rate for the hotel. There should have been a special rate for construction. We'll never come back and will never use travelocity again. Staff was friendly. Food was good. Hotel was clean. Things we observed with the rooms: Room #1 (12th floor). -TV remote broken -Water is hot for a few minutes and then cold. Hotel maintenance guy said it's because it's an old hotel and the hot water takes a long time to make it from the basement. He said to let it run for 15 mins. We tried this. It didn't help. -Kept hearing hammering. Manager denied there was any work being done. I thought it may be the pipes thumping. -Good air conditioning. Room #2 (10th floor). -Bad air conditioning. Maintenance replaced the filter (which was filthy) and thermostat. Sensor on the thermostat makes it turn off every hour or so so we had to keep waking up to turn it on. -No ice bags for the ice bucket. Other room had it. -No container in bathroom for the q-tips, etc. Other room had it. -Clothes drying line in shower was broken. -Refrigerator was loud and it would freeze everything you put in there. We had to unplug it at night because of the noise. Inside was rusty. -No issues with hot water. read more

First of all the "free basic wifi" is 97 Kbs, that's VERY SLOW. So, we upgraded to the so-called "premium" wifi, it actually slowed down to 87 Kbs. We called and complained within minutes to remove it from our bill. Surprise, never done. The "premium" wifi is $20.00 additional PER devise, that really adds up. It took 3.5 hours to download a newspaper to read. They nickel and dime you here, and that becomes hundreds of dollars. The breakfast buffet is fair at best, yet they have waiters or waitresses, that pour you coffee and expect a 15% tip based on your $55 breakfast. Stay at the El San Juan, staying at this resort was a huge mistake. They charge fees for everything, including an umbrella if you'd like one. Self parking is $20 per day. Valet is $24 daily. The pools are dirty could really use a cleaning. I wouldn't stay here again, if It was free. Their excuse for everything was that "no one has ever complained about any of these things". My experience at the Intercontinental was exemplary. Although it wasn't without the occasional hitch, the service and polish of the hotel made my trip much more than just a quick get away. During my seven day stay I reached out to the concierge team regularly to find out things to do. Nestor, Antonio, and Luis each came through on exciting opportunities that were very well executed. Here's an example of the sheer polish this team had: One day at 2:50p I went down to the concierge desk to ask Nestor if there was any way that I could get scuba diving into my remaining schedule. Nestor knew what groups were still diving and called one that had a dive at 3:30p. He saved me a spot and, while I ran upstairs to gather my dive gear, he had my car ready and already waiting for me (without me even asking). Antonio and Luis both have similar experiences they orchestrated. Without this team my experience, and that of my family member that joined me later on the trip, wouldn't have been even remotely noteworthy. But the concierge wasn't the only area of the hotel that performed admirably. Each group had similar stories. Each morning I woke up and went down to breakfast for the buffet. I happened to sit at Alexis' section one morning. Although everyone at the breakfast restaurant offered friendly service with a smile, I was able to see Alex make an effort above and beyond to make my breakfasts noteworthy. After eating my meal one day I had mentioned how nice it would be to have my coffee at the beachfront. Without hesitation he offered to get me a fresh pot and bring it out to the couches/tables. He came out with the coffee, sugar, and a fresh cup for me to sit and enjoy and met me out there. This really started the morning off right. Imagine leaving a breakfast like that and then going up to your hotel room to see towels shaped like monkeys, swans, penguins, or elephants! I could always tell whenever Hilton (the housekeeper's name) cleaned my room. The other housekeepers simply left the room looking spotless, but Hilton staged it into an experience. Pillows weren't just placed neatly one atop the other, they were fanned out in different ways with some towel menagerie close by. Not only was he thorough, but very personable. If he saw me leaving my room he'd always say hello, and if he hadn't cleaned it was very prompt to ensure that it was a good time. It was impressive. Lastly, I had mentioned that my trip wasn't completely without incident. I was in during Memorial Day weekend and had a room right outside the elevator stack. My neighbors weren't the quietest bunch and the bathroom wasn't in great repair. After a day in the room I reached out to Kathia at the front desk to see if anything could be done. They proactively notified me when another room was available and had someone from the hotel help me transfer my things. The new room was in perfect condition and I had no issues with noise or room quality from that point. Some general points about the property if you're considering them: * The property has Avis on site. After my trip I decided that I wouldn't rent a car and then valet it or park it there as the cost for Avis for a day would probably be cheaper. * The casino on site is small, but the tables are lively and the staff is willing to help you learn if you're new to a game. There's a nearby hotel with newer games. Together you could just go to Puerto Rico to gamble and have a great time. * There isn't an ATM on site. Yeah, in 2014 that's crazy. The best option is to go across the street to a convenience store. * The pool is great (and was never crowded during Memorial Day weekend!), but the bar service at the pool was pretty inattentive. Prepare yourself to be bossy unless there is absolutely no one else at the bar. * The beach bar serves great food but you don't get great service if you're sitting at the bar. Once we moved to a table service seemed pretty regular although it did seem as though this wasn't the same experience for everyone. * The beach itself is beautiful, and they set out towels and beach chairs for everyone. If you're free for the day and want to try jet skis there is a kiosk run by another hotel just down the way. * Although I mentioned that my original room was in disrepair, it wasn't a complete disaster. My second room was a 10, I'd say my first room was a 6-7, it just had a flaking mirror, poor shower head, and a flickering light in the shower. I doubt that was the experience for most rooms. * Ruth at the tour desk isn't incredibly sweet or sunny, but she's very efficient. If you want a tour she will set you up quickly and there will be no problems. Just don't expect much interaction or a smile. read more

Great location on the beach in isla verde! Beach chairs and towels free, umbrellas $10. Waiter serves drinks and food on beach. Large pool and nice jacuzzi. The gym is excellent! It's on the second floor of the hotel spa. Cardio equipment and nautilus equipment very modern, gym very clean with a fantastic view of the beach while using cardio equipment. The hotel lobby is quite large and very attractive, with a cool lobby bar and separate sitting areas. The staff at the front desk is professional. We waited for our room to be cleaned upon arrival at the hotel and enjoyed a couple of free drinks, compliments of the front desk. The burger and fries were also quite good and reasonably priced. The room has a great view of the beach and pool and the bathroom and vanity are tiled in marble. The a/c works beautifully, and the room is spacious and comfortable. On Friday and Saturday evenings the hotel lobby hosts two different salsa bands . It's $10 cover which includes 2 drinks. And get ready because the people attending these two evenings can really dance! Cocktail attire is appropriate for these evenings. Leave your t shirts and flip flops in the room upstairs! If you're looking for some nightlife variety this hotel is located next door to the historic San Juan hotel which has bars, dancing and 2 awesome restaurants (very expensive). It's a $18-20 taxi to condado which has amazing nightlife. A $15 taxi to the airport. So, this place isn't the ritz (located a couple of blocks down the street) but it is a lot of fun for a great price. Enjoy! read more

While the hotel is nice, this review is specifically aimed at the spa. I can't have oil or lotion on my skin. The 50+ other times/places that I have received massages, this has never been an issue. While there is usually some conversation about the fact that I know my experience may be different than that of other guests, and I'm ok with that, no one has ever refused to accommodate this request, except for today at the Intercontinental in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I also appeared to be the last guest of the day, and standing between the staff and early close. Who knows what compelled them to say no, really, but I wound up cutting my meal short and losing pool time for no reason. Update: Management called to try to rectify the situation but I had already booked a massage at the El San Juan. They apologized and left it at that. read more

We stayed at the InterContinental for 7 nights and 8 days. While on vacation there my boyfriend proposed to me! The hotel was extremely accommodating in making our special event even more special! My fiancé surprised me by upgrading our standard room to an oceanfront room upon arrival. We received room 1516 and the oceanfront room was very nice and the view was absolutely breathtaking. The housekeeping staff was very impressive, we had Hilton for the majority of our stay. Each day he serviced our room he left us cute animals shaped from towels. Not only are there are multiple bars and restaurant options on the grounds, but there are also many local spots that serve Puerto Rican cuisine that are worth trying. Mi Casita across the street severs very affordable options for breakfast and excellence Puerto Rican lunch/dinner options. Every staff member we came into contact with at the hotel was kind and very helpful. The pool is well maintained and open 24 hours. There is also a swim up bar located in the pool that was very convenient but unfortunately pretty slow. The hotel provides beach towels and suntan lotion for free. The hotel also sets out beach chairs for free every morning and they also provide free umbrella set up for hotel guests. This hotel is worth the price and additional daily resort fees costing 18% of your nightly room rate. If you are renting a car there is parking across the street costing $20/night. They will also add this directly to your hotel bill if you request it. There is also the valet parking option that is $25/night. The hotel made us feel very special during our engagement! We are extremely happy with the service we received while staying at this hotel and we will definitely be back to this hotel in the future! read more

Arrived early and pre registered so when our room was ready we could go right in. Our luggage was stored with the very busy bell hops. While waiting for our room we had a drink down at the ocean. Frozen drink was good but nothing special and nothing that strong. Went and had sushi at momoyama where the food was good and price okay. The way the owner treated his staff was disgusting though. Got a call for our room went up and unpacked. Got a king size bed with ocean view on the 10th floor. Just about unpacked when we pull open the bottom drawer and there is a dead mouse. Called the service desk and he placed me directly through to the manager. He came up with head of house keeping and apologized and gave us a room on the 16th(top) floor. Asked about being compensated and he set us up for free breakfast for our 5 night stay. A $27 buffet per person. Also sent us up a complimentary $40 bottle of merlot and cheese and cracker plate. Loved the new room. Great view from either floor. Great grounds and very pleasant staff. We took busses for transportation. Only $0.75 a person but took an hour to get to old San Juan. If you don't mind waiting for it and taking the ride it's worth it. Would highly recommend staying here as well as taking the trip to old San Juan. If we come back to puerto Rico we would stay here again and hopefully be able to rate it 5. read more

I am reiterating prior review, to let people know that nothing has changed here... We booked our stay through Priceline, HUGE mistake. There was no mention of the MAJOR renovations that the hotel was going through on their website and we were not informed by the hotel in advance. After arriving late night (1AM) in Puerto Rico, the hotel was unable to accommodate any changes to room request even though rooms were available. Carlos, the front desk guy, said - sorry, this is what you get through priceline rates!! This room was right next to where construction was going on and the noise completely drowned out the peace and relaxation we were looking for on vacation. The constructions starts at 7:30 or so in the morning and the guys will be right outside your window. The window is fully sealed with a polythene and you will not even see city or get air in the room. We felt we are in NYC and have no window. The casino is lame (enough said). Also, dont use priceline!! Use airbnb - get whole apartment to yourself ON THE BEACH and you know what you are getting before you pay! read more

Stayed at the Ritz Carlton last time, would definitely recommend over the Intercontinental. Wifi is trash. Food is pretty bad. Ordered pancakes and were almost raw they were so undercooked. Tasted awful. Drunken man named "Billy" who claimed to be a majority shareholder of the place wandered around disturbing people and almost getting into a fight with a waiter. We stayed here for 7 days/6 nights on our vacation. We are big Intercontinental fans but this was our first time staying in a resort style instead of the ones in cities we are used to staying in. Overall, it was a wonderful stay. We had an ocean view room which was nice although the room was rather small ( especially the bathroom), but nothing too bad. The balconies on the rooms are also very small and its hard to actually enjoy them. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is probably one of the best things. You are right on the beach of course and also very close to many local restaurants- we walked to several both Chain restaurants such as Burger King and Subway as well as more authentic local restaurants. There is also a 24 hour mini mart and 2 Walgreens fairly close by in both directions when you get tired of paying $$$ for drinks and snacks. There are also several souvenir/gift shops that are more affordable than Old San Juan and the airport. The decor on the hotel is nice as are the pool and all the facilities. We used all the ammenites except for the Casino and gym. The spa is nice, although small, but still very relaxing. The one annoyance I id have is that at times the lobby can be very packed and loud with people waiting to check in or waiting for something. I had not experienced that before at an Intercontinental and wasn't a fan. The pool and beach were nice. WE mostly hung out at the beach and paid the $10 for the rental umbrella for the day. Not too bad, I have paid more in the past. The 5 star part of our entire experience was the concierge Nestor. He gave us some great advice on navigating the island and getting the best experiences. He had the hook-up on getting us a great deal for a car rental ( $31 for a daily car at Charlie's Car Rental) and seems to have connections all over. He also wisely advised us to take the .$.75 bus to Old San Juan rather than paying the $40 round trip taxi price. We did have a few problems including a erroneous mini-bar charge for snickers ($10!) and the fact that our room wasn't cleaned for 2 days, however both times the issues were handled very swiftly. The first time, I thought it was fluke but when it happened again I went and complained. They claimed we had our Do Not Disturb Sign out for two which is laughable but again, they immediately cleaned the rooms, comped us drinks while we waited at the bar and then gave a few other perks. I vacillated between three and four stars but decided on three once I remembered the food in the restaurants. Let me start from the beginning. My sister planned our trip, we just wanted a quick weekend getaway to celebrate her birthday and get away from the NJ weather. When we arrived at the hotel, our room wasn't ready yet so of course the lady at the front desk suggested we upgrade for $30 more. We chose to go eat lunch instead. The door men were amazingly nice and professional the entire time we were there. We went across the street for traditional Puerto Rican food then walked to Walgreens for a few last minute items. By the time we returned, our room was ready. It wasn't until they took my card to charge the resort fee (which I was told was included in the price of the room), that things started to go downhill. I've heard of a credit card hold for incidentals/damages. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A CREDIT CARD HOLD OF $100/NIGHT!!! It's not written anywhere. It's not in any small print. Not on their website. Not documented, just pow catches you off guard, and there's nothing you can do because if you decide not to stay there, they catch you with cancellation fees. Fine, I let them place the hold on my card. The room was just ok although the bed was magnificent. I've never slept that well in my life (that's why I almost gave four stars). The casino was just ok. The wifi was spotty. We had breakfast in the restaurant where we sat outside. The buffet wasn't that great and was totally overpriced. I was given two thin and moist pancakes and they were horrendous. I ate the rest of my meals off site. **Drinks were good. Beach was wonderful. Jacuzzi and pool were great. Everyone who worked there, from the doorman to the man who dug a hole for my umbrella, was amazingly nice. Local food was outstanding!** Time to check out. Asked for a late check out, it costs $75 even for just an hour. They have a hospitality room that you can utilize for 30 minutes but one minute over and they'll charge you $150.... I have stayed at this hotel in the past and loved it. My review two years ago mentioned what a fantastic place it was. I booked a trip to return in November to travel this March. Due to the outbreak of Zika and its impact on pregnant women, and women trying to get pregnant we needed to re-route as per my OBGYN and pediatrician. This hotel is refusing to refund us all nights, and is still charging us for one night!! We would've loved to return, but due to circumstances out of my control we cannot. SHAME ON YOU INTERCONTINENTAL! You have lost a dedicated and loving customer. I am so disappointing in your lack of consideration. The manager told my travel agent they can't control this, and that the CDC hasn't issued a clear enough warning. Even with a doctors note!! Very Nice hotel. Pool is great. The beach in front is very nice. Room was large and clean. Location is about 7 miles from downtown Old San Juan and is 5 minutes from the airport. The Only reason I don't give it 4 stars is they charge for every little thing. They had a $40 resort fee which in itself isn't too bad, but then $18.95 a day for wireless per device not per room like it is most places. So you have to pay twice each day if you have a lap top and another device like an Ipad. And the cell signal here is weak so if you want to use any internet or FB on your smart phone you would have to pay again. If you reserve with one of the booking companies like priceline be aware that they will not give you an ocean view room without a $40 per night upcharge. When I had called and specifically asked about the chances of getting an Ocean view the day before I got there I was told, you get one if its available when you check in, pretty much luck of the draw. But that's not how it happened. and from talking to other guests over the course of my stay, many had the same experience. Also note that its worth it to rent a car, not the hotel's fault but a taxi ride into Old San Juan is $25 each way. There are buses and they are only $.75 each way which is great, but they are on no schedule so you can be waiting 5 minutes or an hour. We are still here 8/13, check out 8/14 am and we cannot wait to check out. The carpet smells horrible, the bathroom has a patched up leak on the wall. We've asked for a "do not disturb" (the housekeeping man seemed botheted by the ask) for 2 days because a service man insists on knocking on the door in the morning to check the status of the in room snack bar. We received 2 towels, 2 face towels per day. Easy enough to call if they responded in a decent time. I am TV Producer and outlets are imperative for me to plug in phones, computers, iPads, camera. We were regulated to a couple of outlets (4 didnt work) and one is falling out of the base. The check-in associate and dining in associate are the only hospitable people we've come across. We are on the 14th floor and the view is great, but don't let the common areas fool you, the rooms are super inferior to Intercontinental in Buckhead, Atlanta, Boston and New York. Nice place. Great facility, Nice staff, but there was this nice lady called Giuliana that made our trip a whole new experience. At first we had lots of problems with the room, we talked to other staff no one cared and some if them were kind of rude, but Giuliana listened carefully and changed our room without hesitation. If you ever have problem with hotel ask for her. I believe her boss should raise the money on her pay check. read more

I really expected more from this hotel since all other intercontinentals are exceptional. Our flight was delayed 2 hours so instead of arriving around midnight we arrived around 2 am. The line consisted of 2 pilots and 3 flight attendants who were all checking in together with the 2 available agents. We stood in the line over 30 minutes waiting to be checked in next. Our check in took less than 5 minutes. We were upgraded to a beachfront view as we are both IHG members. The rooms are really small, the bathroom is the size of a closet. In fact, the mirrored area where the closet is located is much bigger than the bathroom. Upon entering the bathroom, there was hair on the sink, a longggg strand of hair laying on 2 towels, hair on the floor, just gross.The tub didnt properly drain during most of our trip. The toilet continuously ran after it was flushed unless we jiggled the handle. We called the front desk and they sent maintenance who fixed it in less than 5 minutes. The wifi is pointless, it doesnt work at all. On our first morning there, they began doing renovations in the room below us. Hammering etc starting at 7:30 am on a saturday. I called the front desk and was rudely told "there is no maintenance going on near you. We schedule this at least 48 hours in advance and we send all guests a note that they must sign but if it makes you feel any better I will call security". I asked her yes please do. Less than 5 minutes later a nice lady from security called and said she was so sorry, they were renovating the room below us but would stop. They did not stop at all so we just got up. Each time we entered the room throughout the day, we could hear the banging. The next morning around 8am new guests were checked into the room next door to us. The walls are so thin we literally could hear every word they were saying. We heard bathroom noises and all. Another morning being rudely awoken. We were so tired after the beach this day we ordered room service. DON'T. We ordered the steak and salmon. The salmon was supposed to be terriyaki but it had no sauce, not even any salt and pepper. I guess they forgot the terriyaki? It was also supposed to be pan seared but this was so tough and dry it tasted deep fried. We couldn't even eat ANY of it. The fork wouldnt even cut it! We also ordered steak and frittes. Another tasteless item. The best thing about this $100+ meal was the fries with steak sauce. The food by the pool is also tasteless and extremely over priced. We paid $22 for a chicken ceasar salad which was basically a bowl of lettuce topped with chopped chicken and tiny croutons and $18 for 3 chicken tenders and some fries. We also asked before sitting if this was the place we could get 2 for 1 mojitos and they said yes. When the $81 bill came the 4 mojitos were priced regularly. Their response, oh thats at the OTHER bar we got confused sorry. But did not discount the bill at all. We ate at El ambi(I forgot the rest) twice. Do not use GPS to get there, it will take u in a circle. Just walk down the beach to the left of the hotel or on the street and turn right at the first corner. Its literally directly across from the beach. The 24 market has great,reasonably priced food also we got water and a bottle of rum here. The bakery down the block by hotties has great pastries and pastelitos. We had to pay $10 for umbrellas on the beach. The beach and pool area is beautiful and well maintained. However, the kids in the jaccuzi was the last straw. We were so excited to leave. We called an uber to the airport and had the worse experience yet. The uber driver advised she could not enter the hotel property for fear of taxi drivers damaging her car. We had heard this multiple times throughout the island. We walked to the street only to be met by angry Puerto Rican cab drivers beating and throwing things on the poor lady's car. More than 4 strong men blocked her car and would not let her drive, she had to call the cops. Never use taxis in PR they are greedy and violent. We were outside sweating with our bags and the hotel staff watched this entire debacle.We both agreed we wouldnt stay here again. Too many little things to add up to one big disappointment. read more

I will revise this review after our stay, very nice hotel and convenient to the airport, however after multiple calls over several weeks we still were told the room we had been confirmed wasn't ready -- which could be worse, we said we'd check out the pool deck and lobby bar for a bit, but 4 hours later, as others have long gone to their rooms we were still waiting. Again we had drinks and saw friends and if we could get the king bed room we were happy to wait-- we postponed our honeymoon and are here together for work so one bed would be nice. I just checked and they've now given us a double room as a holdover, and we are supposed to hear or check back in 2-3 hours for our real room. Wouldn't be so bad if numerous people we are with at conference weren't getting requested rooms and unrequested upgrades while we've sat patiently waiting. I know everyone has a reason or story but I would hope that our calls explaining leading up to arrival and then at arrival -- during both of which we were told we had a king room confirmed--and then being accommodating as we've waited, and just maybe some bit of a romantic knowing our circumstances, would get some courtesy or assistance but so far I'm a bit disappointed. I had the worst hotel room ever. The lobby of the hotel was really nice. The customer service was excellent. They upgraded our room to a laguna view but once in the room it was a view of the parking lot. Okay first off when we entered the room, there was a very odd smell. The bathroom door knob was rusty and hanging off. The ceiling had some type of dust mixed with mildew. The bed was very lumpy. I decided to take a shower. Yuck, the tub was old, look like dirt had stained the tub. Needless to say I took a shower with my flip flops. The tub was clogged, the water did not drain. (double yuck). We went to complain they gave us another room which looked and smelled the same. We complained again they gave us another room. Ocean view. Yea!!! Not to quick same mildew look on ceiling. This time the shower curtain had mold on it. Also look like bodily fluids on the chairs. The tub clogged again. We decided we had enough we spoke to the manager. He wouldn't let us cancel the room with out paying one night. We stayed until the next morning. I didn't sleep well I felt very dirty and itchy. We checked our credit card only to find out they charged us $600. Apparently they had a "system issue". I would NEVER recommend that hotel. read more

So arrived excited to check in at this location only to be treated like not beneath there standards guests. Irene Perez who was the manager was absolutely condensing and dismissive to me. My friends husband booked this hotel as a birthday gift for us to celebrate on the island and the reservation was made in his name using IHC points in which they are both members. Upon booking, they didn't include her name and refused to check us in due to "there strict booking policy", which wasn't communicated to us or noted in reservation. Since I've stayed at Intercontinental at other destinations, I recommended this resort. When I expressed that I've never experienced this Irene expressed that I have clearly never stayed in an intercontinental resort, completely dismissing me. I have never been treated so rudely on my extended travel especially since I recommended this hotel. We had to contact my friends husband and have him email Irene with his drivers license and he had to authorize her to complete the check in. They weren't even forthcoming or accommodating and gave us a sub standard room. I don't look forward to staying here for the remainder of the week and would NEVER recommend this location. This is not Intercontinental standards and what's more offensive was Irene's treatment and non apologetic dismissive treatment towards me. read more

Well as a reporter for Today's Family News I can first Handley testify that, yes! The service at the swim up bar was slow and inadequate to say the least, off the record it #Sucks! This place deserves a negative ONE .First night check in at 7pm no problem. Second day big FIGHT at bar . Swim up bar waiters don't want to serve patrons. ....lol what a joke. When I brought it up to the bartender Kristen he complained and try to threathen us to get me and my guest of four thrown out. But the group of guys who started a fight the night before supposedly for grouped a female guest "ass" were not harassed. Unfortunately my family and i were treated like crap and threatened with removal for merely complaining of the slow services at the swim-up bar, even though other couple were also in agreement, according to Eugene who works at Ciao Mediterranean he also agreed. According to Eugene he recommended his nephew to work at the swim up bar to turn it around, but they shut him down.. Well as a reporter for today's family news I can first hand testify that yes the service at the swim up bar SUCKS, But worst was that the hotel treated me like a criminal in front of my guest, my son 18 and my daughter 16 for merely brining this up. Stayed here a few days before going on a Disney cruise out of SAN Juan. We had a great time. The hotel was clean and well taken care of. The staff was amazing, the men at the door always greeted us cheerfully, interacted with our children (giving them rides on the luggage carts) suggested places to eat (even though there are restaurants in the hotel). There was a Japanese sushi place and Ruth's Chris steakhouse but we wanted local food since we were in Puerto Rico. (I highly recommend "Platos" for dinner which was a short walk away) Room service from the bar was so good but pretty pricey. We spent $50 on two lunch meals and one of them was one of the specials. The pool was fun and kept clean. They had towels but you need to use your room key to get them, the sign said if you don't return them you will be charged so make sure you put your towels in the bin when done. The maintenence man said they keep track of them using chips in the towels, I'm not sure how true this is but better safe than sorry. The hot tub was very spacious and felt so nice compared to the pool which was a little chilly that day. The beach was a very short walk past the pool and bar. It was also a short distance to the water which we didn't get in because it was a little cold that day. We would definitely stay there again. read more

This hotel is a great place to stay in Puerto Rico, and I used primarily IHG Rewards points for our stay, for all but $60/night. It's not far from the airport $16 and within a mile of great food. Located right on the beach - is the biggest selling point, where the sun stays the latest/longest in the day. The rooms may not be the newest/ best in town, but do you go to Puerto Rico for the hotel or the beach?. The staff was very friendly, responsive and helpful. Plenty of security and a safe beach. There is always room on the beach and we could see the beach from our hotel balcony. If you got tired of the sand, you can go pool side. Chairs and Umbrellas on the beach are complimentary, just tip the guy putting it up for you. At the restaurant next to the beach I had a gyro with lamb , salad and fries. My wife had a turkey and cheese sandwich and fries. We should have ordered one sandwich and split it, there was too much food with the fries, but they were good. read more

Where do I start! When we arrived the room wasn't ready so we had to wait around the lobby. Then finally our room became available about 45 min later and our friends room still wasn't ready. They didn't get into the room for about two hours! What's the point of making a reservation. Then since we have a one year old child me and and my husband walked up to the Casino with a plan of one of us holds the baby and the other goes in to look around. The man at the door wouldn't let either of us in, saying we were not allowed because of the baby. I told the man that me and my child were waiting outside and he still said my husband couldn't go in. What the hell is that about!!! Then we went to Ruth Chris for dinner and we sat and waited for what felt like forever to get service. Then 20 min later finally someone asked us what we would like to order. And the food was not what I expected! Was like a Outback Steakhouse. Not worth 200.00!!!!! And when a hotel has a beach access for the members you would think the umbrellas are free but they are 10.00. They could do better on customer service. read more

I stayed at this hotel over the Christmas holiday for 10 days within that time, a maintenance person and house cleaner entered my room stealing my Iphone, when reported to security they advsied they would look into, I also had a tracker on that phone which gave me an address of where my phone was (we never left the hotel other than to go to beach and the pool) which the jacuzzi was also broken, I gave the address to security as well as the police, I left 1/10/13, after calling for all these months I finally received a letter of denial from the insurance company stating I should have used their safe (go figure). The intercontinental Ballroom is probably one of the most amazing places you could ever have your prom on BUT they gave me really bad service as a guest. They mixed up my reservation and ended up wasting two hours of my daughter's makeup appointment, they didn't bring up my daughter's dress until almost an hour before prom. They forgot to put on the guest bracelet on some of the students that were staying there over night and they had awful parking service. The guy was real sassy. Stayed here for my first trip to the island and enjoyed it. The beaches were beautiful, the pool was awesome, and the rooms were pretty good too. I have to say, I was so excited for my first trip there that I could have stayed anywhere and would have love it. This hotel was pretty nice though. The concierge was very friendly and helpful (a puerto rican who grew up in canada?) and the hotel offers many fun tours at reasonable prices. I was there in November, so the weather was gloomy for most of the trip, nevertheless, it was very warm and the ocean was like bath water. The pool was very nicely designed and I made good use of the swim-up bar. The casino was alright, kinda small, but my comparisons are to Vegas and the Indian casinos back in SD. The hallway to our room had gotten wet and was being dried with huge air driers. There was a very strange odor out there. The rooms were fine though, they had not gotten wet at all. I think the hotel could use some sprucing up. All in all, I had a great time and enjoyed a very nice, clean, fun and exciting hotel, with very helpful staff. Try the Pina Coladas at the piano bar! read more

The resort itself is really nice (great gym and beach) and the staff are great. The food and drinks, however, are awful. I would recommend going next door to alambique - their mofongo and drinks are really, really good (and about half the price). The pool is also too cold, and the hot tub is luke warm. read more

An absolute nightmare. Although the grounds and amenities are superb, the staff was slow to react to problems in my ocean front room. Toilet was broken and the marble in front of the bathroom sink was broken, leaving a dangerously sharp edge. When Informed of my situation I was told to wait til 4pm the following day so they could "see if I can be accommodated." After interrupting my stay midday to change rooms, the front desk informed me that there would be no adjustment made to the nearly $2100 I paid for the 3 night stay. "The problems in your room have been addressed, sir." So before you check into this visually beautiful hotel, please understand that the customer IS NOT always correct here. In fact, after I was granted a late checkout at 4 pm, I found my key no longer worked at 230, causing me to waste more of my vacation waiting for security to come up and open my door. When I voiced my displeasure to him, the security guard pointed his finger at me.... the customer, and was told TO RELAX!!! After bringing this up to a manager she didnt even ask me for the employees name. Instead she insinuated it was me, the consumer, who was in the wrong. There are plenty of hotels in this area, so unless your idea of a nice vacation is staying inside at the spa or gym and being treated like a second class citizen, pick another. The beach they share with this overpriced hotel is exactly the same. I'm not even going to mention the woman who was badly injured when a glass table shattered and cut her badly up and down one side of the body. I wonder if the same manager told her that her problem had been addressed..... because they got her some band aids. Stay away!! read more
