My wife and I stopped in during a visit to the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, and was impressed by the collection of curated products, neatly displayed across the space. Folks were setting up tables for one of their many cultural events/gatherings, but their space is big enough to handle it while shoppers browse. Their retail space includes a collection of 'Filipino Komiks & Kids Lit' and prints from local/Filipino artists (two of which we've already displayed at our home). This time, ended up bringing home a 'Bangus Pro Shop' ballcap ($24.95) and Filipino Birthday Greeting Card ($5.50). The payment processing is modern, using Shopify, their website platform provider. And their associates continue to be so friendly and helpful. Kubo is just a great place to visit.

When we came in, they were setting up for an event later in the day. With that being said, I can tell there is a lot of engagement and activities for the community! My fiancé and I came to stop by, to purchase gifts for a friend. He felt very seen and felt with every little book, trinket, and toy. I also felt delight seeing myself, being represented. I loved seeing the handmade items, small business items being sold, and books. The most impressive part was the books and toys for infants/toddlers. We purchased some "first words in Tagalog" books and a toy. This place is definitely worth visiting! The girls here were very inviting and nice. It was a pleasure stopping by and we hope to come back again!

I recently visited Los Cerritos Rancho and had such a meaningful experience. From the moment I…read morearrived, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, who took the time to share the rich history of the landmark, including stories about the Bixby family. Walking through the home and gardens truly felt like stepping back in time. There's something incredibly special about being able to see and feel how people lived in the past--it creates a deep sense of connection and nostalgia that's hard to put into words. For me, the visit was also a moment of reflection--appreciating the lives and efforts of those who came before us, and how their contributions shaped the world we live in today. In such a fast-paced, modern era, it felt especially powerful to immerse myself in a place that preserves history so beautifully. I even remembered visiting here as a child, and coming back as an adult gave me a whole new appreciation for it. It's more than just a historical site--it's an experience that invites you to reflect, learn, and reconnect. I highly recommend visiting. It's a beautiful reminder that Long Beach is full of incredible history and hidden gems worth exploring.

It was once a sheep ranch, cattle ranch, and even serves as an extension of our public library archives for local history. Entrance is free. Parking is free (and close to the entrance). There are volunteer-lead tours as well as printed maps to help you navigate the property. If you're planning to visit I'd set aside a half hour for everything. Bonus tip: they host events.

The sound of the water and the dolphin family sculpture is so tranquil, and because I really connect with dolphins, it honestly felt like the perfect welcome. Right when you walk inside, the artwork in the glass displays pulls you in. It's creative, organized, and just visually nice to take in. As you wander further in, the large aquarium connected to the children's section is another standout -- it adds this calm, magical feel to the space. I grabbed a magazine and found a quiet window seat, and those 30 minutes of zero calls, zero texts, zero noise? Pure heaven. I didn't realize how much I missed just sitting and reading without a single interruption. Before heading out, I checked out the psychology and cooking sections, and it reminded me how much I've always loved libraries and bookstores. The whole visit made me want to get a library card and come back once a month just to enjoy that peaceful moment. I could've spent hours just checking out each section. If you want a quiet, beautiful place to escape for a bit, this library is it.

The library itself smells a bit moldy and it did trigger my allergies. The WiFi access wasn't available for me to use since I am not a Cerritos resident or a library card holder. What a bummer. The seeds library is nice and the 80s movie theater themed architecture interesting. I wouldn't mind visiting again if I am in the vicinity.
