I LOVE LSS! They're all so helpful. The volunteers who work in the Foodbank downstairs are extremely nice and hard working.

My wife and I stopped in during a visit to the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, and was impressed by the collection of curated products, neatly displayed across the space. Folks were setting up tables for one of their many cultural events/gatherings, but their space is big enough to handle it while shoppers browse. Their retail space includes a collection of 'Filipino Komiks & Kids Lit' and prints from local/Filipino artists (two of which we've already displayed at our home). This time, ended up bringing home a 'Bangus Pro Shop' ballcap ($24.95) and Filipino Birthday Greeting Card ($5.50). The payment processing is modern, using Shopify, their website platform provider. And their associates continue to be so friendly and helpful. Kubo is just a great place to visit.

When we came in, they were setting up for an event later in the day. With that being said, I can tell there is a lot of engagement and activities for the community! My fiancé and I came to stop by, to purchase gifts for a friend. He felt very seen and felt with every little book, trinket, and toy. I also felt delight seeing myself, being represented. I loved seeing the handmade items, small business items being sold, and books. The most impressive part was the books and toys for infants/toddlers. We purchased some "first words in Tagalog" books and a toy. This place is definitely worth visiting! The girls here were very inviting and nice. It was a pleasure stopping by and we hope to come back again!

From the moment I…read morearrived, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, who took the time to share the rich history of the landmark, including stories about the Bixby family. Walking through the home and gardens truly felt like stepping back in time. There's something incredibly special about being able to see and feel how people lived in the past--it creates a deep sense of connection and nostalgia that's hard to put into words. For me, the visit was also a moment of reflection--appreciating the lives and efforts of those who came before us, and how their contributions shaped the world we live in today. In such a fast-paced, modern era, it felt especially powerful to immerse myself in a place that preserves history so beautifully. I even remembered visiting here as a child, and coming back as an adult gave me a whole new appreciation for it. It's more than just a historical site--it's an experience that invites you to reflect, learn, and reconnect. I highly recommend visiting. It's a beautiful reminder that Long Beach is full of incredible history and hidden gems worth exploring.

It was once a sheep ranch, cattle ranch, and even serves as an extension of our public library archives for local history. Entrance is free. Parking is free (and close to the entrance). I LOVE a great preservation project and poking around Banning House is right up my proverbial alley! Even though we didn't get up-close-and-personal on this visit, what we did find was a good ol' fashion community rec center where locals were setting up for a party indoors, and we were able to duck in for a much need bathroom break, and a crafts faire was getting underway outdoors. In addition, many people were walking about the grounds, on the groomed path we discovered, as well as enjoying the shade the many beautiful old trees provided. Everything was lush and green, and the many critters did not seem deterred by our presence. There were 2 parking lots, one on Eubank Ave and another on Elm St, closer to the baseball diamond where some Lil' Misses seemed to be practicing softball. The Wilmington Senior Citizens Center is also located here, as well as some basketball courts and an exercise trail with various activity stations. Lovely, old fashion 1800s era park lights illuminate the paths in the evening. We will return, as I have discovered The Banning Museum and home of Phineas Banning is open for tours, no reservations required(!), Tuesday - Thursday at select times. Cheers! "CC"

I finally had a chance to visit for a Tarzana Music Night last week. What a fun event! Because the weather was being forecasted to be cool with the potential of rain, the event was held indoors. Things were comfortable, but we were in close quarters with the other attendees. The sound was great and the performances were a lot of fun. I was primarily there to see a good friend perform, but I also had the chance to see some other talented musicians. I think each one was a singer songwriter, and I enjoyed each performance. Each one of the people that was working at the venue, which I imagine may have been on a volunteer basis, was friendly and a lot of fun. Normally the music nights are held outdoors, and I can imagine that most of the year, it is a lot of fun being in the open air.

What a cool place I never knew was here! Check out their events on their website! If you write them…read morethey will write you back too. They have a small outdoor stage with string lights hanging beautifully all around, a few picnic tables and fold out chairs for when there's an event to watch. When the chairs aren't there I imagine thats what they use for the outdoor dance floor under the stars, too! A few people brought their dogs on leash. I saw a few people brought in their own food, chilled out and ate while they watched the live band. They do have a very small amount of drinks, chips, and cookies for sale at a stand but thats it so if you don't want junk food def bring what you do want. They do have an indoor bathroom. PARKING - Def uber/LYFT to them. There are only a few spots in the back you can get to from the side street (not from Ventura blvd) and thats it! So do yourself a favor and get a ride. Lyft must know about this place because the driver knew exactly where to meet us in the back when we booked our return. For us it was a calm but fun summer evening hang outside! I don't know what its like without a band playing but hope I get a chance to check that out too.
