Restaurant City Warehouse - enormous measuring buckets

    Restaurant City Warehouse

"You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant Walk…read moreright in it's around the back Just a half a mile from the railroad track You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant" (Arlo Guthrie) Alice could easily get anything she wants for her restaurant right here on Progress Lane in Waterbury. Imagine a store as big as a Home Depot that only sells restaurant stuff. It's like a Disneyland full of trays, pots and pans, mixing machines, ice makers, bar equipment, pizza paddles, ovens, fryers, griddles, bar stools, slicers, and pretty much anything you have ever seen in or need for a restaurant. I don't own a restaurant, but I definitely developed a greater appreciation for what it really takes to operate one. Wine glasses, bowls, plates, cutlery, fry baskets, big knives, spatulas, gloves, bowls as big as a witch's cauldron, bathroom signs, dining room chairs and barstools, slotted spoons, whisks, chef clothing, big pans and serving trays, coffee stations, chopping boards, a tortilla press, even French Fry cutting machines. We saw them all. And then there were the huge things like deli showcases and enormous dough mixing machines that reminded me of land locked cement mixers. What a fun time we had wandering the aisles and gawking at everything. I've truly never seen a store like this before. Its open to the public and no membership is needed to gain entry. So what did we buy? We replaced an old plastic one pint measuring cup that was getting impossible to read. The new one ($3.99) is very sturdy and super clear to read. We also bought a nifty 10-cut pie and cake marker ($5.99) that will come in handy on Thanksgiving. We had a blast !!

The store is packed with unique tools, cookware, and culinary gadgets, many of which you won't find in big-box stores. there's a real sense of discovery in every corner. The shop is locally owned and staffed by people who genuinely love food and cooking, which gives the place a warm, welcoming feel. Their passion shows in how well the store is organized and how knowledgeable the team is about the products they carry. Whether you're a casual home cook or a seasoned chef, it's easy to find something that sparks inspiration. The biggest drawback--and the reason many people stop short of giving a full five stars--is the pricing. While the selection is undeniably impressive, a lot of items fall into the higher-end range, only a handful of products are under $10, with many gadgets and tools priced between $15 and $100. For some, the quality and uniqueness justify the cost; for others, the sticker shock may be real. Overall, Kitch delivers a fun, engaging, and well-curated shopping experience. It's a must‑visit for anyone who loves cooking or collecting clever kitchen tools. The prices may be steep, but the variety, atmosphere, and passion behind the store make it a solid 4‑star stop in Olde Mistick Village.

The cabinets were very well priced, all with soft close and well constructed cabinets. I got quartz counters and backsplash and they were so aggressively priced that nobody could compete with them and I did a ton of shopping around. The only suggestion I would make to a future buyer is to work with their installer for two reasons. A better understanding of their drafting and install process and secondly better priced. I went with someone I knew from previous jobs and found out I spent $3-4K over what I should have spent. Cabinet changes and issues arose and they were their when my phone rang and support was prompt and fast delivery for the replacement and re-designed space. I will put it two ways to all future buyers, message me and you can see my kitchen first hand. Secondly when the interest rates drop and I buy another house, these guys are doing my kitchen again.

I needed an HVAC part for my boiler, and went to their parts department. The customers in the area were all wearing COVID masks, but the associate behind the desk did not wear any mask. This is Feb 2021, when the pandemic infection rates are staggeringly high. Since I had no heat, it was Saturday afternoon, and a snowstorm was coming in, I really needed to get that part. It cost $330; whereas it was $208 at the normal place I shop (unavailable Sat). Although I knew in advance I would be paying a premium at Modern Plumbing - at least they should follow the pandemic protocols and have the associate wear a COVID mask.

We ended up with poor quality and higher plumbing bills instead. The $700 Toto toilet refused to stop running and pulsing the water so the house shook. Modern gave us a new flow valve to replace this first one and this one did not work either. The plumber replaced it with a home depot valve and it worked..2 extra visits from the plumber for this. The vanity had blemishes on in the wood that marred the front of the cabinet. We called and emailed and they said they would work on it. The day prior to the plumber coming to install it we still had not heard from Modern so we called and they said to go ahead and have the plumber install it and that they would replace the door with the marred wood. It has been 2 months now and no door and no response. The expensive faucet for the sink had a plastic nut to hold the drain on the bottom of the sink. This broke when the plumber installed it and leaked all over the new vanity and flooring. Modern gave me a replacement nut, also plastic. Again the plumber had to come back. To add insult to injury the stopper for the drain does not stop the water from flowing out when engaged. I changed the top of the drain plug with the replacement Modern gave me and it still does not stop the water from draining out. The shower fixtures were also high end and the shower head is made of plastic and the water dribbles out regardless of the setting. I replaced it with a cheap home depot head and the pressure and flow are fantastic. We spend $4,000 on fixtures at Modern for a small bathroom and the plumber costs us over $2,000 extra for the multiple visits that the shoddy quality caused..and we still have a blemished vanity in our brand new bathroom. I would tell each and everyone of you to stay away from Modern unless you want to pay a premium for poor quality and poor service.
