One repair that we needed to make was to fix two window screens that had holes and needed to be rescreened. Considering that one of the screens was for a large window in our bedroom, we figured this would be a great way to finally be able to open our window and let fresh air into our room. The other items on our list were focused on upgrading lighting in a few areas in our home. After doing some research on handymen in Elk Grove, JL Handyservices with it's perfect reviews populated at the top of my Yelp search results. I immediately called Jason Le (owner) and scheduled an appointment for him to visit my home and provide me with a quote. A few days later Jason promptly arrived to do an inspection, shortly after the inspection he sent me a text with the quote. For the installation of two recessed lighting cans - one in a bathroom and another in a walk-in closet- , a motion sensitive lightbar in the garage, and two window screen replacements came to a total just over $600. The day of the appointment Jason arrived on time and ready to take care of the tasks. After asking a few questions pertaining to the temperature (brightness) of the recessed lighting, he began the installation process. Since my wife and I were working from home, he was very considerate in communicating that he would need to briefly turn off our power. Although this was a slight inconvenience, it was very short lived due to Jason's efficiency. Roughly three hours later, Jason was summoning me to check out the final product(s). Installation was very neat and Jason did a great job of cleaning any trash that was left behind. As my wife and I continue to identify areas of our home that need to be upgraded, I will be reaching out to Jason for future services. Casey made the work appear professional at first, but during the very first storm after installation, the skylight leaked so badly that water was pouring into the house. The situation was severe enough that our paying guests stated the home was unusable and checked out early because of the amount of water coming in. We immediately sent a licensed roofer to inspect the work. The roofer took photos and confirmed the skylight was installed incorrectly and not properly sealed at all. Basic, standard waterproofing steps were skipped entirely. This was not a materials issue. It was poor workmanship. We contacted Casey multiple times with the documentation and the urgency of the situation. He did not respond, did not offer to fix the problem, and took zero responsibility. He simply avoided us. No follow up. No accountability. Completely unprofessional behavior. This caused us lost rental income, additional repair costs, and unnecessary stress. Between the failed installation and the way he disappeared afterward, this felt like dealing with a rookie amateur rather than a professional contractor. It ended up being a significantly larger issue than we thought it was -- we had a substantial leak (from a broken pipe) that had been soaking the floor underneath the bathroom tiles for quite a long time. Zav guided us through the whole repair, from start to finish. He managed the demolition (it was a lot!), the subfloor restoration, the tile work, and then put it all back together. He also coordinated with a wonderful mold remediation company (shoutout to A&S Water Restoration!), which greatly reduced our stress during the whole process.
