I chose this company based on their online reviews, but after my experience, I seriously question…read morehow accurate those reviews are. From the beginning, I made it very clear that I wanted 100% communication and no misunderstandings. The salesperson assured me the entire project (windows, gutters, shutters, etc.) would take about 2-3 months. I was aware I was paying above average, but I trusted their reputation. That turned out to be a mistake. The problems started right away. I assumed measurements were taken during the initial visit, but they weren't. I had to take time off work for another appointment, and the person they sent was in and out in about 20 minutes. After that, communication completely broke down. I had to repeatedly call just to get updates. Months went by with no clear timeline for installation. Every time I spoke to someone, I got a different answer. The office staff seemed completely disorganized, and emails were confusing or contradicted each other. Eventually, I spoke with managers, and even they admitted there were mistakes and miscommunication. But nothing was actually resolved. When installation finally happened, it was poorly handled. They sent only one person to install gutters, which was inefficient and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they somehow retained my payment information and charged me without my authorization, which is extremely concerning. At one point, a manager apologized but then started mentioning that if I canceled, I could be legally responsible. That is when I completely lost confidence. It felt more like a threat than an attempt to resolve the situation--especially considering they had not fulfilled their obligations despite receiving a large deposit. They later came out to take pictures and "check" the work, but it felt like they were trying to protect themselves rather than fix the issues. I have lost an unbelievable amount of time dealing with this--taking off work, making calls, and sending emails. To this day, I still have an issue with one of the windows. I reached out again and received a response that made no sense, and I still have no real answer. Also, their "lifetime warranty" is not even through them--it's through a third party, which was never clearly explained upfront. Overall, this has been an exhausting and frustrating experience. I strongly recommend being very cautious before choosing this company and considering other options. Look for the response towards any complaints they're completely generic. They don't even give at least any kind of explanation as to why of things occurred. I would take my business elsewhere. You're gonna get robbed. They're charge you an astronomical price for something that anybody else could've done much cheaper.

I want to update my review concerning Smallwood Renovation, Keith the owner of Smallwood Renovation…read morecalled me yesterday after viewing my concerns about his lack of response on Yelp. Keith could not have been nicer and was very apologetic with their delayed response to a few issues we had concerning the deck they had built for us. He immediately requested that a crew would be out this morning to address everything and the crew showed up and corrected everything and then some. Sometimes customer service is lacking in this country right now, but not with Smallwood Renovation if it isn't right they will do everything in their power to make it right. Thank you Keith and the crew at Smallwood Renovation!

Brian was very easy to communicate with and took care of ordering all of the supplies. They came by the following week and completed the install as scheduled. They were very tidy using drop cloths on the carpet and cleaned up after themselves; unlike a lot of handymen/ contractors. Our staircase not only looks better, but is as solid as a rock and not all wobbly like it was before. The price was fair and I would highly recommend using them for staircase work or any other carpentry projects, such as molding or built-in's. I have uploaded a before and after pic to this review.

Well fast forward almost a year later and now there is a baby in the house that is ready to move. In my childproofing quest, I told my husband that now is the time to get the stair handrail fixed. He found The Finishing Company. We advised Brian why rods we would like and that our stairwell was loose. Brian said no problem. We got our stair handrail fixed and new rods added in less than five hours. It is such an improvement. Brian is meticulous. He made sure to vacuum up dust every little step along the way. Now when I come home, I get to not only see a beautifully staircase but I feel a great piece of mind that the stair handrail is sturdy enough for once my baby is mobile.

I was more than respectful and asked for a small dent repair throughout my home on my trimming. They cost me $5000 for a $800 job! I communicated to the owner Jef immediately the same night the job was complete where I saw issues. They were at my house until 10pm at night for 2 days in a row trying to recover their screw up. Only reason I didn't notice everything right away is they were done so freakin late. Something that should have taken a 3-4 hours took them 2, 10 hour days. As soon as I did a walkthrough the following day I saw how poor of a job this was. They were even unprofessional to pour the old paint water and remains down my sinks and drain! They didn't tape the areas, painted over all trim on to the walls and now I have to get the whole wall painted. Even we're sloppy to paint on my hardwood floors. The owner made false promises to come rectify the issue and always had an excuse. Now that I asked them to fix it now he wants to say well you paid and the contract is final even though I presented the problem within the 2 weeks after service there within the contract to advise them of the issues. I literally showed him that night and the very next day. Super unprofessional company and I will never recommend them to anyone. Sad part is I have at least 50k worth of work that they screwed up from not rectifying a $800 job. These kids need to get it together and I will be sewing this company. They could have either fixed it or refunded my money and those chose not to do either. He even tried to blame the previous painters on their poor job as well yet this trim job had nothing to do with the spot job on the walls. Completely different areas. Very poor service and never use this company. So I've attached the entire conversation throughout the process and pictures of the damages. You see I was super professional, tried to accommodate and be understanding. Gave them plenty of time to fix this and here is how it ended. Owner on numerous occasions acknowledged how they messed up and promised to fix it just to turn around and never rectify the problem. Very poor service and unprofessional.

I'm pretty sure that's why he jacked up the material quote over the phone. So............if you aren't swimming in cash and your project won't bring these snobs at least $15K look elsewhere. Looking at the other two reviews on here, I see I'm not alone. I was quoted $15K for a 100 sf deck....check elsewhere folks.

We signed a contract w Deck Creations in Sep of 21, they promised to start no later than 16 weeks…read morelater and started about 30 weeks later. They promised a completed project 4-6 weeks after starting and finished in about 18 weeks. During that entire time we had both a large dumpster and porta-potty in our driveway. We engaged them to design/build both a composite deck and paver hardscape area. During the deck construction the subcontractor was fired and at least one inspection was failed by the county. We were contacted directly by the subcontractor about re-hiring them, this made the situation particularly awkward. The deck was finished by another contractor who had to tear down at least half of what was previously done. The hardscape area was completed by a single subcontractor. The resulting space was short about 2.5 feet in width, leaving us ***** sq feet less room around the fireplace than contracted. This was space was especially important to us since it is around the fireplace(center) of the hardscape area. During the process I never got the impression that our project manager had command of the project or was really looking out for us. Ultimately, Deck Creations admitted that the space was indeed short the space around the fireplace sitting area as designed. They offered no remedy, only to waiver the small final residual payment and leave the project. I honestly believe I would have ended up with a better outcome by hiring subcontractors on my own. I also regret not taking the time to understand the details of the contract they had me sign. In hindsight I should have paid closer attention to the extensive protections afforded to them at my expense.
