He was very pleasant and was able to assist in answering my questions, in addition to providing a temporary photocopy of my card, as I have not received it in the mail yet. He was also able to assist me with adding my new plan to my account on hmsa.com, so I could set up auto-pay for my monthly premiums. He also provided me a Evidence of Coverage packet and info on other coverages. I was very appreciative of his willingness to answer my questions, and for one that he couldn't, he referred me to Benefits, who had the answer to my question. I was very satisfied with my visit. Fun fact about having UHA medical insurance:…read more UHA has been sending mister and I a FIT kit (colorectal cancer screening kit) by mail, for the past few years. Each time we complete the kit and send it back to UHA for testing, we receive the result by mail, and following a month+ later, we each receive a $50 target gift card. Yay! Very convenient, SUPER AWESOME, SO MUCH APPRECIATED! Now a not so fun fact: Twice, mister's monthly prescription drug was suddenly declined for coverage, it got so expensive, we had to apply for a coupon directly with the pharmaceutical. There was another temporary prescription that was declined upfront, which my husband against the doctor's orders, refused to take it since our cost was unaffordable. He worked hard to watch his health, and struggled for 3 years to heal on his own, without the help of medication. Can't complain much, as UHA is our only choice for medical insurance coverage paid in full by mister's employer. Was advised that the cost for UHA monthly premium is less than with other large insurance companies.

K. I've been with kaiser my entire life. Literally, I was born at kaiser and had my fill of…read moreseemingly countless appointments. By the time I was 15, my kaiser card was black from all the times my card was "swiped" through their carbon copy machine thing. I would say for the most part, I've enjoyed my experiences. Until last week. I will be traveling to south east asia this summer. I've been to the travel clinic at kaiser serval times before and have never had to go to the business office to make a deposit before....I didn't even know where the business office was! My appointment was scheduled for 10:20. Obviously, being the idiot that I am, I thought that I'd be in and out in 10, maybe 15 minutes after getting a couple shots . Nope. 2 hours. It was a complete waste of my time. That being said, the doctor I saw was really apologetic, but it really wasn't her fault at all. Also, I lived in so cal for 3 years. It took forever for me to figure out how to get to see a kaiser physician there. You'd think it would be pretty transferable information since kaiser in Hawaii should be on the same system as the kaiser in so cal. Def not the case. Just because they are the same name means nothing. Side note: I had a cough that wouldn't go away for about a month in Thailand one summer. I was in and out of a Thai hospital in less than an hour. I had blood work and X-rays done and I got to see a doctor and pick up medicine. All of that in less than an hour. It is simply unheard of here.

On February 3, my husband went to meet with Michelle to switch his current Medicare Advantage…read moreInsurance to United Healthcare. A problem arose because he had changed to his current provider in Jan, and by Medicare rules you're only allowed to make 1 change during open enrollment. Michele contacted Medicare and was able to get an application put through due to an exception to that rule because of a unique situation involving his current insurance provider and his current healthcare provider. What's most impressive about all of this is that because the application had to be submitted by Medicare, Michelle basically did all of this on her own. He'll be getting together with her on day one of open enrollment in October to upgrade his plan.

I haven't had general dental insurance since I moved to the United States…read more But when I needed an implant or crown several times, I was surprised at the high cost of treatment. Fortunately, I was using a type of co-insurance at my main dental office and I renews every year. With this insurance, the cost of regular checkups including tooth cleaning twice a year is free. But I started thinking about a little more fulfilling insurance, so I called HDS and asked questions. I was able to understand what I didn't know until now by their explaining. Even if I have insurance, I will not be eligible for insurance treatment immediately, and I need a waiting period of up to 12 months. However, even during the waiting period, it seems that I can get a discount on the treatment fee at the dental clinic as an insurance member. When I heard this, I immediately decided to enrollment online. Normally, if you complete Enroll by the end of each month, you will be treated as an insurance member on the 1st of the next month. You will receive a card at home in about 2 weeks from registration. Currently, it seems that the downtown office has nobody but the customer service office is above. So when I called customer service with the phone installed at the entrance of the HDS main office, the staff came down immediately, opened the office, and explained various things and answering my questions. I certainly thought it was a little inconvenient system, but I was relieved because the staff who responded were very kind. It can be said that the fact that there are so many dentists in the HDS network has a high point for me as a resident of Hawaii. Well, I will gradually know how much benefit I have from joining this insurance in the next year. I'll update it to you later.
