The first time we got a fruit delight, ice cream sandwich and pink leche. The second time, we got a banana split and again a pink leche. By the way the pink leche was consistently served, and probably the best I have tasted. In the Corpus Christi area, the condensed sweet milk was only poured over the top. Here the condensed sweet milk was throughout the entire cup. The inside sitting area is very clean. Service was good; however, the first time was a younger lady who was friendlier and the second time there an older lady that didn't seem to speak English very well, which then I tried my Tex-Mex to communicate. We will be back to try a salty snack.

An interesting gourmet concept. You go in, pick what kind of roll you'd like (I picked "old skool", a traditional Cinnamon filled roll). Next, you picked your icing flavor and how thick ( I wanted light cream cheese), then lastly you chose toppings, anything from caramel bits, chocolate chips, fresh or dried fruits or nuts, etc. (again I went traditional with pecans). I got there as they were taking a fresh batch out of the oven and had to wait about 7 minutes for a hot gooey roll. No big deal to get a hot, yummy roll. The price of these are a moderate $5.75 for the basic roll, then add-ons, start at .50. Although it smelled delicious, I was a bit underwhelmed. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I felt they were pretty stingy with the pecans, and it just lacked the yummy, yeasty taste of a cinnamon roll. But I would definitely go here, before I would go to cinnabon!

Also they offer each cake in various sizes. We tried two kinds of cake. We got a large German chocolate cake for $25. The frosting was good and not too sweet. Overly sweet frosting is a no-no for me. But the cake itself was borderline dry. So we didn't hate it but we didn't live it. Also it was a light chocolate. I prefer a rich dark moist cake. However, I wanted to try their white tres leches cake with strawberry topping so I got a single slice and it was delicious. I was worried it be too sweet but it wasn't. It was perfection. So I will return for this cake for sure.

Very tasty, flavorful and the size of tortillas is much bigger than ones hand. The food is very hot & fresh and takes just minutes to come out. I started coming here for the sweetbread, and eventually tried the tacos, wow I was very impressed as I didn't expect it to be so good being a bakery. It's been my "Go-To" spot for years now, as El Pato is just a few yards away and gets extremely packed at lunch and honestly their tacos are smaller and not consistent. But still go to. El Pato out of necessity when Il just going to drive through and can't stop. The food here at La Morenita Bakery has a more homemade authentic "casera" flavor to me, and they do not skimp or cheat you out of your hard earned dollars here. The seating chairs are iron patio furniture, so not extremely comfy however it's not agonizing and worth the 15-30 minutes you'll spend their, besides if you go solo as I do, there is a little bar with stools up against the entrance wall that is very cozy and private. And then again, there's always the "to-go" take back to work/office option. My favorite is the papas a la mejicana & chorizo/egg tacos one on flour & one on corn with a side of coffee with panecito. But EVERYTHING is hot & tasty - you won't regret it. Service is friendly, and it's basically the owner, helper & cook but worth the wait of about the average time depending on orders ahead of you of course, but help yourself to some sweetbread & coffee and check your emails while you wait, before you know it that hot plate will be placed in front of you. Mmmmmm soooo good. Overall this place is a hidden little secret as people jstop by for sweetbread not knowing about the good tacos available., but hey, have a seat & have a hot, fresh taco or two you won't be disappointed - I'm very picky, but not a complainer knowing everyone works hard in this food industry, besides on bad experiences I just "boycott" - and I keep myself on a reasonable budget and don't like snobby - look at me - high end busy restaurants, so if you just want an AUTHENTIC private little time to yourself- this is your spot too.
