I had the pleasure of trying some of CC's desserts at Loveletter coffee and they were so delicious I just had to stop by their bakery and see what else I could try. The owner was so sweet and helpful! She was so patient with me as I was deciding what to try! The space is small but they had everything neatly on display. I have to say, I'm a little surprised at some of these reviews because every item I purchased was delicious! I tried their strawberry cupcake and the cake was moist and flavorful! The frosting was a little too sweet but the tartness of the jelly filling balanced everything out. I tried their lavender and cookies and cream macarons and they were so good! I liked that the lavender had a tart filling in the center. I got a cosmic brownie for my brother to try and he said it was amazing! I also got a danish which was pretty good and I just had to get a lemon bar and one of the blueberry pie bars because they are the best! This is my new go to place for baked goods! If Yelp would allow half stars, I'd give CC's a 3.5 rating. CC's is pretty hidden in the same plaza that houses Moonbeans. The cupcakes are pretty and tasty. One in particular, the salted caramel cupcake, was way too sweet for me. But the others in the batch I bought were good. Most cupcakes have hefty icing in addition to filling. The peanut butter chocolate cupcake is my favorite so far. Peanut butter filling, yes please! Overall, these cupcakes are just okay tasting and I don't think the taste is up to par for the 3 dollars+ they cost. They also sell macaroons, which I don't see to often in the Valley. And I also bought one of their walnut brownies that was delish as well. Tuesday's are $2 Cupcakes and they have a nice selection to pick from. They even have some treats for your dog - only 1$! The only bad thing I would say is when my friend and I GPS'd this location we really had to look for this shop in the plaza it's at. But I'm not going to hold that against them. I really don't know if I don't like macarons, or I just don't like these, but I'm definitely lamenting having invested $14 on them. A friend of mine told me that these were the best cupcakes in the Rio Grande Valley. It was a big promise, but this place absolutely delivered. I came in and picked up the following flavors: salted caramel, red velvet, the "food bank," (which is a blend of chocolate, vanilla and red velvet), vanilla, and strawberry shortcake. I tried parts of all of them (except for the salted caramel...I ate the whole thing right there). I think the food bank cupcake was my favorite of the lot. Not only was it outstandingly moist, I felt like a better person for eating it because CC's makes a donation to the RGV food bank when you buy one. All of the cupcakes were just the right balance between moist and firm (not underbaked at all!). The frosting is nice and light and sweet and there's not too much of it. They're a decent size--big enough to split, but not so big you feel disgusting if you eat a whole one yourself. They also make filled cupcakes, so those can get a little mushy; get a fork if you order one. As for pricing, it's really reasonable. They run $2 a cupcake and $21 for a dozen. If you order a 1/2 dozen, you get 2 free cookies. If you don't like cupcakes, they've got cake-pops, cookies and some morning baked goods as well. Before you jump in your car, know that their storefront is a bit tricky to find. It's on the southwest corner of 10th and Dove, tucked behind a building that you can't see from either street. If you've ever been to Moonbeans, its in the same plaza, but on the northern side of the plaza (still south of Dove though). Don't give up looking for it if you have a little trouble. Their strawberry frosting recipe is amazing and I'm never disappointed with their creativity! The cakes are done well - not dried out and richly tasteful. Toppings are always fun with a ferrero rocher piece or neat decorations. I read the negative reviews on macaroons which are warranted, but she has improved her recipe. The owner used to be a nurse and came into the small business of baking to make people happy - she's learned a lot on her own and the macaroons are getting better. I've tried making them myself and it's a intricate and delicate process to perfect the texture. Plus, not many places in the valley are brave enough to put them on their menu! 5 stars for introducing the valley culture to such delicious treats. Love this place to indulge my sweet tooth! I went in for the first time to try the macaroons because they are hard to come by down here and I can see why now... Doesn't seem like anyone knows how to prepare them... Macaroons should have a THIN lightly crunchy outer layer, with a SMOOTH inner cookie later and a light filling, however this is NO WHERE near what I received... The macaroons have a THICK AND REALLY HARD outer layer and the filling seemed RAW/UNCOOKED and was lumpy, and it wasn't just one, I bought six shared 4 of them only to see they were all the same, I don't even want to eat the other two... What a complete waste of $12! I would much rather wait to travel back to London or France to get my macaroon fix... It would be so much better worth it. read more
