We got quotes from several other vendor/installers, but theirs was by far the most competitive. The installation went very smoothly and was completed in only about 1/2 day (two inside units plus the compressor unit on the roof). They also took out the existing (ughhh!) swamp cooler for a minimal extra cost and provided an excellent reference for someone to patch the ceiling where the swamp-cooler vent had been (also an incredible job by Jose Gonzalez). Luis has started up and closed down our swamp coolers for several seasons. He repaired our swamp cooler in an emergency situation earlier this summer and returned to evaluate it when it was time to close down the coolers, determining that we did not need a new unit only a greasing of the bearings. Started process to get direct vent heaters installed with emails and phone calls in early July and was told that an estimate would be done and the work would be scheduled. It is now October and after several more phone calls over the months, I am being told that they do not have the time to do the work. To add insult to injury, I was told that the owner told me he couldn't do the work previously which is entirely untrue. I called about an issue I was having with a boiler. It was working on the day before they arrived but felt guilty about canceling the appointment so I contacted Michael and told him I'd have 2 old thermostats replaced even though they were working. He said they always carried plenty on the truck but when the tech arrived he said he only had 1 and he'd need to run out (on my dime). I told him what Michael said and he "checked" and found 2. He was clearly annoyed by this so spent the next hour and a half trying to replace one of the thermostats: changing the batteries several times, tapping on them, wiring them in and out multiple times. It was ridiculous. I finally realized he was playing me and told him to stop and put in my old thermostat which again worked fine. He claimed both of their thermostats were faulty. Now I'd recently had 2 of the same brand thermostats replaced in another place by a different company. It was simple, and took about 20 minutes. Michael called the next day and I told him what happened. He said they could come out again and I asked what could they do to resolve this and he said probably the same service. So what did I get from Insight? Absolutely nothing for $162. It's clear they're trying to pad the bill by dragging their feet on jobs although they already make an obscene amount. The tech charged 1.5 hours but I told Michael I'd only pay for the first hour, hence $162. I should have refused payment altogether and will in the future. This will correct problems with deliberately slow work. And be especially aware if you're an older woman. There are a lot of dishonest businesses out there. read more

Insight installed two heat pumps for my mom in Taos, one in 2017 and one in 2019. In general, they have been very responsive when contacted about issues, but I was up on her roof this month and I noticed that the insulation had entirely dissolved on the refrigerant lines for the first one they had installed, and that the insulation on the second one was already starting to decay from the UV exposure. Heat pumps don't function properly without this insulation. My mom contacted them and they said that they had noticed this problem on some of their installations and had switched to another insulation product. They said the problem was not their fault because the manufacturer claimed that the product was UV resistant. They provided the spec sheet for the product, which says that it is "UV resistant for *up to 5 years*" (my emphasis.) The thing is that they knew they were installing the heat pumps on a roof in Taos where UV is way more intense than almost anywhere, and that minisplit heat pumps are supposed to last 10-30 years, so why were they using a product that is rated for "up to" 5 years in normal conditions in what can only be described as extreme conditions? It should have been no surprise that the product was beginning to fail after 2 years (on the 2019 heat pump) and has totally failed after 4 years (on the 2017 heat pump), and they should have known this. Having discovered the problem, they should have contacted all their customers where this product was installed and offered to replace it, rather than waiting for an 80 year old woman's son who happens to know a little about HVAC to go up on the roof for other reasons and notice the problem. Even failing that, they should have offered to replace the insulation when we contacted them. read more
