Well thankfully I didn't just show up bc I called and was told that they don't have a tech for the next few days and they don't know when they will -- what kind of imaging center has NO TECHS for X-rays? This, of course, is a much higher copay. When I contacted them about it, they insisted that the bill was correct and refused to correct it as they stated they're a part of the hospital. If only I had known that beforehand! I must make it clear that this particular facility is located INSIDE an office building and is nowhere near to Fairfax Hospital! For this reason alone, I'd never go back there for any radiological services as I consider this to be price gouging. Only providers and insurance companies benefit from this practice.

Before I can get an appointment I had to FAX in the referral. After faxing in the referral, the earliest appointment I could get was over six weeks away. I tried calling another Inova locations, they told me to call a central location, again they wanted the referral faxed. When I called them, it was a person at home taking phone calls. I asked to talk to a manager and the phone was disconnected. After the frustration I called UVA hospital in Prince William County. Within minutes, I had my appointment with 2 weeks, no need to fax in the referral, and I even had my copayment information. If you live in Prince William County you may want to work with a more customer oriented hospital and UVA.

This response was both confusing and concerning. It is highly problematic that appointments can be confirmed without verifying basic patient details. This resulted in unnecessary inconvenience, wasted time, and added stress. Furthermore, the staff member's conduct was unprofessional; no apology was offered, nor was any effort made to provide guidance or an alternative solution. I have had significant issues with charges being more than quoted over the phone, incomplete communication about authorization, deductibles, and other things. However, generally speaking, they have gotten the job done. I don't like that parking needs validation and they only validate up to 1.5 hours - and some mammograms take longer with ultrasound and additional imaging. They also can be a bit short over the phone, and fail to provide context that other radiology facilities might be more inclined to include. However, I do appreciate that this location has a broad range of services available and is prompt with answering calls and attempting to answer questions. Never my first choice as there are some amazing radiologist in the area, but a lot of them have inconvenient appointment times and can take months to schedule. I wouldn't suggest parking on the street, as the police ticket cars immediately when the meter expires. The parking garage is also an issue when going for a first mammogram as they tend to take longer. For subsequent visits, they are good about getting patients out very quickly while still doing what needs to be done. Though, you may feel rushed, I do like it better this way than worrying about having to pay for going over time in the parking garage. One thing I don't like about them is that they had been charging $20 for a CD to bring back to your provider. The other radiologists that I've been to have never charged me for a CD, so I was very disappointed as my provider was shocked that the CD costs exta and she prefers the CDs to go over the findings with patients in an extended consultation with lots of visuals - she apparently needs to CD to do this effectively, so I was not able to receive the same level of detail about my treatment plan that I previously received, due to having my imaging done at Tower Radiology. I hope that they reconsider this charge. Anyway, I think it is better to know what to expect going into it. I added an extra star for convenience.

Incorrect billing information given upfront Despite the fact that my insurance portal clearly shows I've met both my deductible and my out-of-pocket maximum, the front desk insisted I owed 50% of the cost "per my contract." This is not how insurance works once OOP max is met. I was pressured to pay hundreds of dollars before even being seen, and the staff would not consider that their information might be outdated or incorrect. 2. Staff openly acknowledged ADA accessibility problems While waiting, another patient in a wheelchair was told directly that the imaging area "isn't ADA compliant" and that they probably would not be able to fit a wheelchair through the doorway. Healthcare facilities are legally required to be accessible, and hearing this was deeply concerning. 3. Poor communication and dismissive attitude Every question I asked about my benefits was met with a script instead of an actual explanation. As someone with a background in public health policy, the lack of basic insurance literacy from the staff was shocking.
