This was a very nice get away for us while on Spring Break vacation. Brian and Barbie, the owners,…read moreset up this carriage house and 3 acre mini farm about seven years ago. They offer private farm tours, carriage rides, a bed & breakfast, a wedding chapel and lots of flowers to enjoy. My family went on the carriage ride with Brian and Barbie. They use an original carriage from the 1800s which has been updated with fiberglass wheels and hydraulic breaks. The carriage is drawn by Moses and Aaron (Gypsy Vanner Cross horses). The ride takes about one hour along a mountain gravel road. For portions of the ride, Brian & the horses kick up the speed to around 40 mph. It's pretty cool and exhilarating. A fun family friendly experience. The kids enjoyed petting the animals. They have a donkey, a pony, fainting goats, chickens and pheasants. You'll also find daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, a type of cherry blossom and other flowers.

Bear came with us and was the perfect pup just chilling and loving all of the attention! The service was great we went to the counter and ordered our drinks. My kiddo even got to have a blue raspberry slushie which made her night she ended up with blue lips and teeth too! They also have a gift shop full of adorable merchandise: cups with the bear claw logo etched on (I got a wine cup lol! ) , cork bracelets (we got two), dog clothes, goat milk soap, t shirts etc. They have lots of seating options indoor tables as well as lots of tables with little fire pits outside and lots of games. On the weekends, they have live music. When we visited artist Russ Stills was there. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. He even came around the audience meeting and greeting with each table and taking requests. From the moment you arrive, you can tell Mercier Orchards is something special. There is so much packed into this one location that it almost feels like a small village built around apples and everything that comes with them. Inside the main store, the selection is honestly overwhelming in the best way possible -- home goods, gifts, jams, jellies, preserves, baking mixes, sauces, butters, ciders... anything and everything apple-related, plus plenty of other fruit-based goodies. It's the kind of place where you say "I'm just going to browse" and then walk out with bags of stuff you didn't know you needed. Then there's the bakery. Seven lines. All long. And all moving surprisingly well. I eventually stepped out of line after about 15 minutes, but not before getting a solid look at the pastries, pies, breads, and desserts -- everything looked incredible. Even without buying anything that round, the bakery alone is worth the stop. Now let's talk about the apple picking experience -- because this is where the magic really happens. Riding out on a trailer attached to a tractor felt like something straight out of a fall movie. The views, the air, the vibe -- it's peaceful, exciting, and nostalgic all at the same time. The apples change with the season, and the ones we picked were delicious and lasted a long time. No pesticides, just straight calcium. Fresh, crisp, and perfect. And yes... get a bag or three like I did. You're going to want them. The entire place also makes for amazing photo opportunities. Whether it's the orchard, the tractor ride, the store, or the scenery -- this is one of those spots where your camera roll is guaranteed to fill up. The only negative moment of the day happened when I went to grab some cider and one of the guys behind the counter completely ignored me. I actually had to call him out -- like, "Did you not see me standing here?" Not great. But that one interaction couldn't even come close to outweighing everything else this place offers. Bottom line: If you're anywhere in the area -- or even thinking about making a day trip -- you absolutely have to go. It's a little off the beaten path, so I don't expect most people to just "stumble" upon it... but if you plan it, you won't regret it. This is an experience, not just a stop.

This time, some family members were joining us on our vacation (their first time in Blue Ridge!) and since they have a large motorhome, we thought it would be more convenient if we stayed nearby. Since the Blue Ridge Toccoa River KOA offers cabins as well as RV and tent camping sites, we booked one of the dog friendly cabins for our week-long stay. Having had mixed experiences renting cabins through the local rental agencies, I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the moment we walked into the office to check in and during our short drive across the park to the cabin, I started to think we would be quite happy with our choice. First, some info on the location itself: - opened in/around 2020, so fairly new - situated directly on the Toccoa River - RV, tent and cabin options with some RV sites being paved and some graveled - very pet friendly, with a dog park available to all dogs and some RV sites having their own small dog park - play areas for children, a pool, showers and laundry facilities on site - just a couple of miles from downtown Blue Ridge and about a mile from a grocery store The location is in pristine condition. Beautifully maintained, it still looks like it just opened yesterday. All the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful and it's obvious that they take pride in their business and in providing excellent (and proactive) customer service. Here's a great example - during the middle of the week, we were in downtown Blue Ridge for lunch with our family and they got a call from the staff. It was a windy day and they had their canopy out at their RV. The staff noticed that, went to the RV to see if they were inside and, getting no answer, called them to alert them. Our family members, being long-time RVers, were quite impressed that the staff took that extra step. Fortunately, they have a canopy that's flexible so didn't need to rush back. The cabin we rented was on the river and afforded us a wonderful view. The cabins aren't large (think "tiny house") but ours was sparkling clean and had everything we could want. The staff had supplied kitchen towels, soap, sponge, paper towels, plates, cups and plastic utensils, along with a starter set of coffee. Since we're used to rental cabins, we always bring our own lates/cups/utensils and coffee, creamer, filters, etc. There were some basic pots and pans, a toaster, a microwave, full sized oven/stove and fridge. Two rocking chairs, a side table and very nice (and very clean!) Weber grill complete the front porch. As weather can vary wildly in the mountains during the spring, we used the heat AND the air settings on the two units in the cabin on different days. The units are wall mounted in the main bedroom and main living area and both worked well to keep us comfortable. This was a terrific first experience for us and we'll be back.

KOA RV Parks all are fairly standard which takes some of the guesswork out of booking in advance…read more But they are sometimes more expensive than the standard RV a park. This is a moderately small RV park with either regular or upgrade type sites-the only difference being somewhat of a view and a fire pit. There is a convenience store with snacks, RV supplies, cute items and some basic items. It would be handy being able to stop in for these items. They also sell propane which is really nice. There was a pool but I don't think it was open because of winter. This KOA RV Park only allows a 14 days stay to allow more guests to visit the area.

Also I know eclectic country is their theme but desert plates and saucers are not appropriate for serving dinner for wedding guest. Paper or plastic would been totally acceptable at this venue, and maybe there would not have been so much left over food.
