This gym is a hidden gem. It's in a warehouse located within a bunch of warehouses, there's not really any signs or anything that you can see driving or from the street. If I didn't live across the street and see people working out in a parking lot, I would have never heard about this place. Needless to say, this gym is amazing. They have a diverse group of trainers who are all really fit and care that you get the best out of your workout. By diverse I mean, you have the owner, T, who is in 40s, but he's the most jacked guy in the gym. He looks like he's worked out his whole life.. o wait he has worked out his whole life. haha. #lifegoals And then there is Erika, who is super motivational and her strength is her strength, form, and yoga prowess. There's other trainers, but those two are my favorite. This place is called innovative strength and conditioning for a reason. I'm 27 now and I've probably been working out for 9 years now, in college I did rowing and that was really intense. Then after I weight lifted. Got big. Then I became a brownie connoisseur. Got bigger (don't ever become a brownie connoisseur.) Then later I started running and got small again. So anyways when you have been working out for almost a decade you think you've seen it all. The first day I worked out here I did workouts I've never done before in my life. And they were effective, innovative, felt like I was adding levels to my workout regimen. There will be a learning curve with some of these workouts because you will have never done them before, but they are fantastic workouts that use multiple muscle groups and maybe even muscles you've never used before. Who should come here? Anyone that wants to get a) get stronger (strength classes) b) get more fit (conditioning classes) c) get sexier (A + B) Most workouts here are an hour long. You get so so so much done during that 1 hour. The first 15 minutes are a warm up of dynamic stretching, then the next 45 minutes you can choose the strength class or the conditioning classes. Classes have like anywhere from 3-12 people depending on the time of day, and classes are only in the morning or evening. The classes always have a trainer and because it's not that many people it feels like you get the attention of a 1 on 1 trainer. And if you are a true baller or need some serious gains you can do 1 on 1 training but I don't know much about that because I do the classes. And there's always parking, and there's never broken equipment, and there's a shower, and your belongings are always safe here. read more

Has yelp come out with the 6th star yet? The problem with most gyms is that you sign up and never get the assistance you really need! You wonder around and try and workout based on something you saw on Facebook or a movie, then the next day in your in pain and agony and never want to go back again. Not here! They teach you how to do everything, they show you the proper form and won't allow you to any workouts if you can't do them correctly. They teach what foods to eat and what to avoid! They are positive and uplifting! They have preset workouts do you don't have to guess what to do next. They tell you that you're going to be sore the next day and then tell you to keep coming back. Classes are one hour long and they have them as early as 5am and as late as 630pm. They have showers available as well. They play music during the workouts. They also have a childcare area. check this place out! They have great deals, located in a safe area and offer weekend workouts as well. read more

I have been coming here for almost a year now, and I have been very happy with my progress. I initially joined, because I know two other members. One of which, I compete with in Spartan (obstacle course) races. This person does very well during Spartan races so I knew the training she received at ISC will help with my desire to improve. I have completed three Spartan races since joining ISC and anticipate completing three more in 2017. I definitely feel like I have gotten stronger and my endurance has improved. Both Austin and Toraino are excellent at pushing me and calling me out when I am slacking off (I don't mind when they do this.) I'm looking forward to continue working out at ISC in 2017 and improving my physical strength and endurance. I hope to progressively do less burpees during the Spartan races : ) read more

Can I tell you just how A-fricking-mazing Toraino Singleton and his staff here are? My family and I have had Toraino in our lives since his days at Velocity. That's where we met him, fell in love with him and his techniques, and followed him over to ISC. He's only gotten better over the years, and he's (along with Austin) been instrumental in my son's athletic development and I KNOW he's gotten stronger, quicker, and faster as a direct result. We've recently gotten our 12 year old daughter engaged as well. First off, if you're expecting frills and ruffles and nice yoga studios, ISC is NOT your place. If you're looking to REALLY train HARD around hard bodies who know what they're doing, all in an open space with music being pumped through speakers, this is nirvana. It's big, brassy, and ballsy, with nary a machine around. The set is full of dumbbells, plates, bars, racks, chains, football field-like turf and loads of sweaty, sexy people going through what it takes to get that way. There are plenty of classes offered for a a variety of fitness levels. Kids' called abound as well. My family takes full advantage of that. The prices are reasonable as well. If you're looking for something to really kick-start your training and get you off of a plateau, or if you're bored with your current training regimen, ISC is the place for you. I've seen a stream of college, semi-pro, pro, and pro athlete wannabes stream through here, so Toraino MUST be serving up something good! This gets a rare 5 Stars from me. Get here!! read more

Coach T, the owner, is so incredibly motivating, encouraging and knows how to push you to the right limits. All the coaches there are attentive and great at correcting form. Gym is really nice and they do have up to date workouts. Their customer service here isn't the best though and they are really expensive. It's a little crazy to me though you would think for almost $200(188) a month they would include other amenities they offer in that membership i.e. like sauna or compression. But those are a extra charge. I had a few friends tell me the same thing about them but I still wanted to try them out myself. They also use these apps to setup appointments which they apps are kinda faulty and if you schedule an appointment and than cancel (even in reasonable time) the app won't let you reschedule the same day and when I tried to tell a coach that they still had nerve to try to say well if you don't book I'm charging you for this class I thought class were unlimited when you have the most expensive package. I guess I was wrong also when it comes time to cancel it's so hard to get a response here. read more

As I read thru all these great remarks, I have to say, the workouts are most definitely creative and I have no doubt that the trainers are very knowledgeable. Everyone is very nice and welcoming. I agree with one of the remarks below where the business is poorly ran and customer service is very very poor. I had Toraino as one of my trainer and he was the worst communicator. He was hardly at the gym, so I couldn't ask him my questions and concerns. When I texted him, it wasn't the most motivating response. When I finally saw him, he acted like he was too busy to talk to me or he was constantly on his phone. I had no idea if I was doing the workout correctly. He most definitely had his favorites and only attended to them. So instead, I would ask the trainers onsite, but the problem is that I don't pay them, I pay my service to Toraino, so it seemed like the other trainers didn't want to spend the time to share their knowledge. Since toraino wasn't there most of the time, I got comfortable with the ones onsite, but the problem is that the turnover with these coaches are a joke. They only last for a few months and no longer there! I participated in one of the competitions and immediately dropped out because it was poorly planned and no one knew what was going on. All trainers were confused on what they had to do and when asked, they directed me to my coach. So with this said, I will never go back to this gym nor will I recommend to my friends and families. If you want a creative workout, this is a great place, but beware of the poor quality of customer service. read more

I realize this review won't effect their overall rating & that I look like a hater being the only negative review. I agree with most reviews that this is a great gym with great trainers. I just judge a business on their integrity & customer service more than anything else. I think it is important to shine light on both the good & bad so people can make fully informed decisions. This review took many months for me to decide to post. I like the trainers & never want to hurt someone's livelihood, but I believe in accountability. First, I gave them 2 stars for Toraino & Austin being really good trainers & likeable people. Other than that, this place is very poorly run. The workouts were great & if you are a young attorney like most of their clients & money isn't a concern, it'll probably be great for you. Here's my story...I met Austin at a community meeting where he was doing some PR for the gym. I asked him if they had any fitness/agility classes for kids. He said they did & I should bring my son in to talk. He talked us into an introductory month for $70 or $80. They didn't end up having any classes for kids so I cancelled my membership, rather than jump to their usual rate somewhere above $150 just for me. A few weeks later they asked if I wanted to do a team challenge. It sounded like fun & it was $160 for 6 weeks with a chance to win $600. It was fun but it was an absolute unorganized mess. Rules were not predefined so we had no idea how we were being scored for the competition. The guys kept making up rules throughout the contest, contradicting themselves & each other. It was chaotic. They might as well have drawn the winning team out of a hat. During this contest Austin told me they would be starting up a kids class on Mondays and Wednesdays for $100/month. I signed my son up & he loved it. I decided to continue after the contest for $160 for both my son & I (Austin looked at it as my son getting to work out for free). Then two weeks after we started this arrangement, a few hours before class, Austin texted me that he was cancelling the kids class effective immediately. I texted him back that I wanted to cancel our membership because the main reason I was doing it was for my son & I'd never pay over $100 for myself. He said I needed to email the gym to cancel & said they had some 2 week policy for it to take effect (ironic how they can cancel classes with hours notice but clients have to provide 2 weeks). In my email I suggested they do the right thing & refund me at least half my $160. I never heard anything back from my email so I texted Austin a week or so later to make sure it was received. He said it was & that my membership was frozen until I decide to come back. With the lack of organization, commitment, & integrity I've seen from this place, I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I love this gym. I have the short term attention span of a gnat and have to ask the trainers constantly what to do and they help with absolute patience and enthusiasm. I am also as weak as you can get, and they are great at helping you adjust the set exercise to your comfort level, while still pushing you. A few months ago, I was starting to get dizzy spells and my doctor recommended that we do blood tests. It turns out that I was pre-diabetic. I knew I had to make a change. My friend Oliver recommended that my brother and I check out his gym, Innovative Strength & Conditioning (ISC). I laughed in his face and said umm yeah maybe for my brother, but me? Heck no! Oliver is super fit and so I knew there was no way I would be able to do the things he does. Then he countered that saying that his friend's 50 year old mom does it. So I agreed to at least check it out! Fast forward three months later and I couldn't be happier. My brother and I actually skip social things with our friends or arrive late because we don't want to miss our workouts at ISC. Don't get me wrong, it is HARD work. But the amazing thing is you have awesome coaches like Austin and Toraino that PROVE to you that you can do it! The people you work out with are so encouraging and helpful...not at all intimidating like when you go to a regular gym. As for results, I no longer have dizzy spells, I look healthier and leaner and my overall quality of life is better....seriously....it changed my life and probably saved it! As for my brother, he says he is at the best shape of his life. He was an All-American athlete so that is saying a lot! So...come check out ISC and experience for yourself what I am talking about. I wanted to get in shape for my sister's wedding and my two coworkers always talked about how sore they were from their bootcamp class. So being the slight masochist that I am, I decided to give ISC a shot. Boyyyyy, after one class, I was hooked! I thought I was in fairly good shape, but I was struggling, sweating and panting through this class. And the kicker is...I've been doing this class for about 8 months and I still feel like that! Don't get me wrong, I definitely have gotten stronger and fitter within that time frame, but that's because the class is still pushing me to the next level. The soreness that you feel tells you that your body is changing and the class is effective and it keeps you wanting to come back. I can't tell you how many times I have said "No" to social plans just so I don't miss out on class. I just don't feel complete without it anymore! A big reason ISC is so great is because of the trainers Austin and Toraino. Now, when you hear Bootcamp, you think crazy military exercises with people yelling at you to complete the exercise while tears run down your face. Yes, you will be doing crazy exercises (think box jumps, burpees, deadlifts, kettle bell swings, hurdles, tractor tire push, sled runs, TRX, chain pushups), BUT the trainers aren't barking orders at you. They will motivate you and correct your form so you can be at your peak performance. I think everyone should give ISC a shot...even if you are just a beginner, because the trainers will help you reach all your fitness goals as they are very knowledgeable about it all. Love love love ISC. Before training here I had been working out and lifting weights, I thought I was in good shape but had hit a bit of a plateau. After only a couple weeks of going to ISC I am addicted. I have never had such a hard work out that I loved!!!! I realized I had not been working out to the best of my abilities. Boy did that change! First off the people that work out there are so friendly and sweet and never make you feel as though they are better than you (you know those gym people don't you). So supportive and encouraging. The workouts are challenging and the trainers are incredible. They have pushed me to take my workout and body to a level I never thought I could achieve. They also watch my form and make sure I am lifting correctly so I do not injure myself. This has made me more confident in lifting. Too many good things to say! read more

I always use Yelp as a resource but never actually posted a review. ISC gym definitely deserves positive feed back and 5 stars. I found this gym through yelp and am so glad I checked it out. Recently just relocated to Sacramento and have just been in a slump. Haven't been motivated to push myself physically at all. I left their 8:00 am class feeling like I got a great full body workout which consisted of cardio, burpees, kettle bell swings and all that could stuff to get your heart rate going. The owner Terraino met with me before class and gave me a run down of our workout and made me feel welcome. He definitely covered all ends. The gym is huge with plenty of weights and equipment. There are multiple conditioning classes. There is also a kickboxing class if you are in the mood to change it up. Big plus for having a shower, bathroom and a kids room. Kids room is more for older kids who can watch a movie or do homework while you are working out. Def a place to achieve your workout goals and gain strength. If you decide to stick it out after your first week, you will be greatly rewarded. The classes are fun, challenging, and dare i say it, innovative. It's hard to accurately quantify how the classes are put together since there isn't a specific theme, it's a combination of a lot of different fitness programs such as Cross-Fit, Power lifting, Olympic Lifting, P90X, TRX... you will rarely repeat the same program from one week to the next or one month to the next. The coaches, Toraino and Austin, are good people in every sense of the word, they are knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to help you achieve your goals. I am a mother of 4 kids they range from 18 months to 15 years old and a hubby. My friend Lydia invited me about about 8 months ago. I was so reluctant to it. I have been coming to Innovative Strength & Conditioning for a year now, so this review is well overdue! Prior to finding ISC, I had been regularly attending a local boot camp and running. Boot camp and running covered my body weight training and cardio, but I wanted to start working with weights and powerlifting. I spent a handful of months researching gyms to integrate weight training into my routine, and initially visited a few CrossFit boxes. After a few months, I realized CrossFit was not the way I wanted to proceed, and moved on to ISC. From day one, Toraino, Austin and Alex have welcomed and encouraged me, all while kicking my butt! They consistently create challenging routines for team members to tackle each day, and do not hesitate to answer your questions (and I always have plenty) or correct your form when needed (especially while lifting heavy). Since I've been attending Innovative Strength & Conditioning, I have made serious strength gains, improved my mobility, and improved on my powerlifting form. Though the workouts are TOUGH, I always have a great time (and dare I say, fun?) :o) There's no better feeling than feeling accomplished walking away from an intense workout. ISC hands down best gym ever. I entered a 40 day challenge contest I heard about through a co-worker which led me to Alex L, an amazing trainer - he gets you, he takes his time to learn about you. He picked up quickly that I was not as agile as some of the other attendees and offered modifications to get me through the classes. He also made great recommendations to help me at home. He coached me through the entire challenge offering support with diet, weigh-ins, motivation and just checking in to see how I was doing. At ISC they push you to be and do better. I was running, lifting, doing workout routines that I had never imagined I could do. I increased my speed, reduced fatigue, got over my fear of lifting weights and ultimately shaved a few inches, a few pounds of fat and increased muscle!! I have never considered myself an athlete and probably would have self-described myself as a couch potato if anything. As I've grown older in life, I have come to realize that improving fitness has grown to become more and more important to me. While thinking about becoming fit is easy, actually working towards that goal is the hard part. That is where Toraino and Innovative Strength and Conditioning comes into play. This program has started me on the path to better health and fitness, and I don't plan on looking back! Most personal trainers I have seen out there, focus on just finishing each preprogramed exercise routine one after the other. Toraino doesn't just want you to do an exercise, he wants you to do it right. Additionally, Toraino adjusts each workout to both accommodate each individuals needs, and to push each person to their limits in order to maximize the effectiveness of each workout. While I still have a ways to go before I reach my ultimate fitness goals (if I ever can reach those), I strongly feel that training under Toraino is one of the best ways I can use to get there. read more

I think it is all relative on your fitness level, and workout style. Being someone who has tried many gyms in Sacramento, I was excited and hopeful after speaking with the trainer. I was sold on a 1 month package to give it all a shot. I was disappointed to find out after I paid that they had a free 7 day trial and I wasn't made aware of that until it was too late. I was in pretty good shape when I took my first class but I wasn't familiar with the gym or the type of workouts, I definitely felt uncomfortable and in the way. You are kind of "on your own" after they give you the run-down of the day's workout. It wasn't a very welcoming environment outside of Toriano, and when I asked someone a question at the front desk they seemed annoyed. The spinning studio was filled with new bikes, but if you have gone to other spin studios you will find the bikes stiff and they often came loose in the middle of a class to the point where I would need to get off my bike to retighten it up, and my bike was squeeky. The instructor I went to Kira was great. The AC in the spin room was limited if any and the classes get very stuffy and hot FAST. For the price and my personal workout style- it wasn't for me. So, I don't think it's a bad place, and I think it is probably great for the right bootcamp type of fitness enthusiast. read more

ISC is awesome, if you have read my other reviews, you know I have been around to many fitness centers. ISC is the one I ended up joining. I have been working out since October at other Groupon's I had bought and then I started in January with ISC, feeling pretty good with my fitness level, they kicked my butt!! I have keep with it and after only 5 months, I can't believe the transformation in my body, I actually get compliments on my arms and legs now. My endurance has increased significantly and I always feel challenged with every workout. The trainers there are awesome and are constantly coming around to help you with your technique so you can make the most of your work out. My favorite trainer Alex Leeth, even follows up with eating habits and talks with me about my fitness goals, so he can help me meet them. I am so thankful for ISC and the body they are helping me create. I look forward to my workout classes and am always amazed on what I can accomplish. Growing up I was always slim. I stayed active with volleyball and dance. After I had my beautiful daughter I got lazy and gained a lot of weight. One day I looked in the mirror and said "I have to do something about this." I first started training with Toraino at 24 hour fitness and have continued to train with him as his visions grew bigger and bigger. It has been 4-5 years and I'm addicted. Toraino really works with you. He learns your strengths and weeknesses and pushes you to do the best you can. I never thought I would be able to do half the workouts we do, and now I find myself adding weight to some of the movements. Toraino has given me the confidence and motivation to push myself. Training with Toraino has been an unbelievable experience. I look back to when I first started training with him at 24 hour fitness, to his first bootcamp classes downtown where there were only about 2 of us and now I see how much his classes have grown. I don't know how much more I can say about this place that others haven't.; but, seriously this place is amazing. I signed up through XOSO boot camp which is a great value and don't think that I ever want to go to any other gym in my life except for this one. I am in love! I have worked with Alex and Austin and they are encouraging, challenging, supportive, knowledgeable, friendly, and just overall awesome. Each class pushes you to your breaking point.
