Certain units despite being priced the same are quite different on the interior. The property is super cute but the rating is getting dragged down because both times we've stayed here the front desk person has been downright atrocious. If you aren't a people person you probably shouldn't be employed in the hospitality industry. Quiet, surly, little to no instruction or insight offered. Not even so much as a greeting when you walk in. Quite odd. Would suggest hiring some better staff as the rest of your property is quite enjoyable. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Cannon Beach immensely, hotel is small and modest, but the rooms have been upgraded and redone and are very nice. We liked the location one block from the beach. The check in was extremely quick and easy and the staff was friendly. Our sweet had a Murphy bed, which I enjoyed as I was expecting a fold out from the couch, much better! They have two locations, about a block apart, and we were at the number two location, which is actually a little closer to the beach... Enjoyed our stay! read more

I am only giving this one star due to an item left behind not being returned. I do love these cute cabins, the jetted tub was nice except there were some parts that kept falling off. The customer service horrible. Monotone voice, no smile at the front desk, even when I called in and asked for the code to the keylock box as I was instructed online, I was told "Come to the office". "Okay, where is the office, I don't see it".... "The first one" "The first one, what?" "location" "Oh, there are two? can I have the address?" ::quick mumbles:: I took a load of items to the car to checkout, saw the housekeepers and said, just one more load and we will be out. The man asked which number, I said 15. My partner had just bought a new watch and placed it on the fireplace mantle. I saw it as I was taking a load out to the car to check out and yelled back "Don't forget your watch on the mantle!" We loaded the car, got on the road, had lunch and then further down the road he said "Shoot! My watch. I left it on the mantle" (I'll leave out the...didn't you hear me and such...lol) I called the office, left a voicemail about this. I never got a call back. Then I sent a message online "Hello, I left a message after checking out about a watch that was left behind this weekend in room number 15, it was left on the fireplace mantel. I saw it when walking out and sadly my bf didn't hear me to grab it and we didn't realize it until we were already on the way home. We checked in to room 15 on Saturday 12/10 and checked out just after 11 on Sunday 12/11. I haven't received a call back from the message I left." This is the reply "We have already checked where the lost and found items are and there is no watch that describes, everything that our housekeeping department finds in the rooms is returned to the office and the guest is immediately notified. to let know that they left personal items in the room so they can pick it up or we can send it immediately but unfortunately nothing with that description you give us was found, we are sorry, we asked all the staff " I am mad at ourselves for not grabbing it. Want to spend a long weekend or a week with the family by the beach in Oregon? Then this is the place for you! While the room (Unit 1) was right on a busy street, it has double paned windows and both rooms came with a nice fan that provided extra white noise. Not only does it have two bedrooms but it has a murphy bed for even more people! It also has a gas fireplace and a FULL sized kitchen! Guest service was very nice and wow does this place have amenities - towels, blankets, chairs, bikes, etc that they will provide you free of charge!!! They have board games, dvds, books, etc. The unit was very roomy and had high ceilings. We parked in a parking lot behind the unit - there was a giant truck parked right in front of our unit - it would be nice if they had people park in front of the rooms they are assigned. read more

Don't understand the rating. Room was clean and bed was good. Had a nice TV but no programming( local, ESPN etc channels). The bad received nothing for tor 400 dollars. Nite with pet fee. $2 dollars drink one of water bottles in fridge. Went to check in 30 mins early and was told I was at other site so went to other site and sign when saw says check in at site 1 so walk to other site to check in again. Got back and opened the door and a moth was flying around a dirty towel was on nite stand. No creamer in room. No air conditioning or fan. Room 18 is next to the water fountain that makes it like raining and a light that shines right in your eyes, no shade. Raccoons on trash at night, scary for puppy walk for night pee. I would give 2 stars but she gave 3/4 stars. She says better than Shilo in Seaside due to cleanliness, which they leave a note to tip cleaners. read more

Worst Christmas Experience ever... Booked a room at just before 2 pm on Christmas day.. Drove through bad weather to get there.. Multiple confirmations from Hotel along with emails from them to see if we needed to make it a Special occasion, just give a call we'll hook you up.. Arrived at hotel, office is closed but there is a note on the door, lock box to your left, key inside opens mailbox below, find envelope with your name on it!!! Yay! So simple.... Except... No envelope, i went through them twice to see if I missed it. The phone number on the sheet for any issues..I called she answered surrounded by screaming children , I explain the situation, she says that I "booked" the room too late so there is no key... What the fudge?!! I have a confirmation and my card is charged and i am here in the rain before 4 pm check in time. She stated she'll just refund my card... Am i living in a parallel universe right now!?!?... NO, i want the hotel I paid for and drove to. Her response is that she lives 2 hours away (Portland/Cedar Hills) and it will take her more than that to bring keys...i am livid and tired...it is Christmas day, nothing is open, i need a bathroom, i want my hotel room, and now i have to find another hotel. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A HOTEL AND I GO TO QUITE A LOT OF HOTELS DURING THE YEAR-ALL OVER! I told her I would call my bank about the charge on my card for services that were promised, confirmed but not even attempted to be provided. Waiting 2 hours is not acceptable if check in is at 4pm. I also told her that since the booking was done early afternoon she should have checked them and called me to tell me about the hotels "late booking-no keys" policy that is not written any where. .. Side note, booked another hotel, called them to avoid another Christmas day fiasco, within 6 minutes of booking, she received an alert that let her know about my booking, amazing what technology can do for you. Stayed at this dump for our anniversary and they shut off the water and sewer from 9am to 7pm on a Friday. They couldn't tell us before we got there to cancel or delay our trip. Unable to shower, wash up or even flush the toilet. They provided no water to drink or even hand sanitizer during the outage. I called the health department and the city to take action but they did nothing. The desk drone informed us they have 24 hours to fix the water before they get in trouble. Isn't that special...the drone did offer us chocolate however. She also said "I'm new", not sure what that meant when I needed to use the toilet. She did offer to take off 10% from out final bill, but that was a lie. They did offer a free night from November to February when water falls from the sky to make up for the inconvenience. I think we'll pass and cut our losses. I plead with all civilized customers to avoid this tourist trap. Cheers! read more

The Blue Gull Inn is a comfortable little hotel just steps from the beach! We loved that the hotel was just steps from the beach, affordable, and had all the amenities we needed. The room had a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, a tv, a small table and a jacuzzi tub, which we paid a little extra for. The room was still inexpensive at around $70 per night. There is parking in front of the rooms, but if it is full there is a gravel lot next to the hotel for guests to park in. There is no office at the Blue Gull, so you have to check in at the Inn at Haystack Rock about a block away. The lady that helped us was very friendly and helpful. The location of the Blue Gull is nice because it is situated right between the downtown area at the north end of Cannon Beach and the other restaurants and bars at the south end of Cannon Beach. Each area is about a 5 to 10 minute walk. read more

One block away from the beach (no ocean views but for 99$ that's as close as you'll get) room was cute and decently sized for two. Front staff was polite upon arrival. Only downfall was they were doing Reno's in the suite next to me - typically I wouldn't mind a bit of noise but I have a three month old and it was hard for her to nap :( oh well hopefully next time a little quieter! read more

My girlfriend and I recentely took a trip up the Oregon coast from southern California. On our second day we made our way to Cannon Beach and booked a room at the Blue Gull Inn which we could not have been happier with. Our tiny cottage was very reasonably priced and had a back door that was maybe a hundred yards to the beach. We were so pleased with the amazing little town and our stay that we decided to book another night. We had to change rooms on our additional night due to booking the next day but upgraded to a bigger 1 bedroom cottage with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub for only a little extra. All in all we had a great time here and are already planning on coming back. Can't beat the hospitality and amazing scenery. This is one place you must experience at least once. Very nice place to stay while visiting the Cannon Beach area. The rooms are cozy as well as very clean. Each room is like having your own private little cottage. Our room came with a nice fireplace that came in very handy when the power went out in our room one of the evenings due to 70 mph winds. To our surprise the electric fireplace still operates without a flaw. We were very well taken care of while staying at the Blue Gull Inn. The front office also provides a large selection of movies for those very Stormy beach nights (Yes they even have The Goonies partially filmed in Cannon Beach). You are also only one block from the beach, and a short walk to downtown as well as haystack rock. Overall a great place to spend a few nights while exploring the Northern Oregon Coast. read more

We were down in Cannon Beach for a wedding and just used a google search to look for places to stay. I happened on to the Haystack Lodgings site and found the Blue Gull Inn. We were looking for something nice, but also wouldn't break our budget and the Blue Gull definitely fit the bill. We got one of the spa cottages and it was less expensive then a lot of the other places in the area (they offer a 10% discount for AAA/Military). The bedroom wasn't huge, but the bathroom was large and the living room area was nice. There is a small flat screen tv in the livingroom and small regular tv in the bedroom. It had a nice kitchen area with an oven, coffee maker, microwave, sink and full fridge/freezer (all were in super nice condition). There was also a good sized dining table with chairs too. The property itself was very pretty and like other reviewers have said it was super close to the ocean. We only dealt with the office people when checking in and out, but they were very nice. The WiFi is free and we had really strong connection with our phones and Ipad. All in all this place was great. It will be the first place I look for a room next time I go back to Cannon Beach. read more

The Blue Gull was a perfect spot for a last-minute winter get away. The courtyard is darling, even on a cold November day. The location is great, less than a block from the beach and just a few blocks to downtown. We were in the garden cottage, which has a jacuzzi, a gas fireplace, a full kitchen, and an upstairs sleeping area. The furniture is all carved with Haystack Rock scenes, which is a slightly-kitchy-but-nice touch. The office has lots of games, movies, and puzzles to loan out, and we had a cozy evening strolling the beach, watching a movie, and playing battleship in front of the fire. read more

We have loved the Blue Gull for years. Now some of the rooms are remodeled and so cute, with custom carved furniture, new paint, etc. This time we rented the Garden Cottage, the only 2-story cottage (and probably the newest). The bedroom is in a loft above. There was a window where you could definitely hear the ocean, but they could have stuck an ocean-view window in there somewhere. Beware, though--the custodial garden shed is right between the Garden Cottage and I think the #4 cabin--and we were awakened way too early on a Sunday by the cleaning crew talking, laughing, and getting sheets and vacuums from the shed. I believe all the cottages have Jacuzzi tubs, a huge plus in my book. Now get this--we got this cottage for $50 a NIGHT because we are on the mailing list, and they had a January special. Unheard of anywhere on the coast, especially Cannon Beach. Just a couple of negatives, and they are probably not negatives for most people. There's a tiny 4-cup coffee maker, and being coffee snobs, we always grind fresh beans. We brought the beans but forgot the grinder, and there wasn't one in the room. Still, there are many great coffee places within walking distance, and there were a couple of packets of Boyd's for the coffee maker. The television is old and small, so that might be a con for some people if you are going there to watch TV and don't have a flat screen. :) With great restaurants and shops and a Jacuzzi, who needs TV?? read more

After an infinite amount of searching and calling around, I finally found a vacancy here for a one-night stay. The Blue Gull Inn is very inexpensive compared to all the other places around this area ($129/night) and is quaint and clean. They have free DVDs for you to check out, fresh fruit, a variety of tea, popcorn, hot chocolate . . . the room was spacious and comfortable and most importantly the bathroom was clean. You only get one parking permit which wasn't a huge problem for us and the "office" of the inn is 1 block away, but they were fairly friendly and the check-in and check-out process was a breeze! You won't get any views with this inn, but I think it's a great location - just down the street from the beach and a couple blocks from downtown! read more

Cute, comfortable place. You check in and get your keys down the street at Inn at the Haystack Rock. Lovely courtyard with a multi-tiered fountain. Lots of flowers, including roses and fuchsias. The rooms are small, but adequate, and artfully decorated in a European/Mexican fusion style that is fine if you're not picky. There are some blue and white Delft-like tiles that remind me of the Netherlands, and some Bavarian-style tole painted items. Bed is comfortable. The shower/tub is fine, but the toilet is on the small side. If you are a big guy, it will be a challenge to fit, sitting down. The TV has a DVD/VCR unit connected, and there are videos available to borrow at the Inn at the Haystack Rock. The beach is less than a block away. I would recommend this place, and I would come back. read more

My husband and I are staying here tonight. The proximity to the beach is awesome. It's about a 10 minute walk into town which is fine. The room is pretty little, but perfect for two people. I'm not really sure what they were going for with the decor. It's sort of a Mexican theme I guess. A little odd for the beach. Our room is super clean though, definitely no complaints there. Our check-in was seamless and they have complimentary fruit, tea, and DVDs in the main office. My only real complaint is that the walls are paper thin. The ladies next door are talking at a normal volume but it sounds like they are in bed with us. This is a big deal for a light sleeper like me. read more

We used a groupon to stay at the Blue Gull Inn on a Friday/Saturday night in the beginning of Feb. The staff at the office were friendly and helpful. The room was small, but incredibly comfortable and cute. The grounds are beautiful, with a nice fountain and lots of landscaping. Wi-fi worked great. The beach access is probably the best thing about this place, though! It's about a 1 minute walk right down to the beach. We took our chairs down to sit and hang out twice on the same day. It was so easy to just cruise a block down the street and end up right on the beach!!! One drawback to the Blue Gull - the water was lukewarm at best (never got hot). I reported this to the office upon checkout. Another small drawback -- no wine opener in our room even though our Groupon package came with a bottle of wine. We stayed here after buying a Groupon - having no previous experience with this establishment. At first glance, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside of our queen bed spa cottage with a gas fireplace was a delight! Newly refurbished, it was clean and well appointed. The spa tub is just barely big enough for two but it still works! The complimentary toiletries, Sleepy Monk coffee and free fruits and teas at the office were great! They also provided a pack and play for our infant at no charge. Things to note: the office where you check in is up the road about 1.5 blocks, they use real keys instead of cards and parking is tight! It was a great experience and we will be back! read more

The Blue Gull Inn is one of the great cottage motels that were originally built pre WWII. There are several of these little treasures and I suggest using them for your lodging. The price is great, the accommodations are good, and the "quaintness" is unbeatable. read more

The staff members who I checked in and out with were very kind and courteous. The room was well kept upon arrival. Our room was very cozy. I think the next room I book for us will be the one with a kitchen. The rooms have quick access to the beach and is along the main road into town. Lighting for the side parking lot would be quite helpful but it's not a deal breaker. I will definitely look to stay at the Blue Gull Inn again during our next trip to Cannon Beach. read more

We anticipated some pretty bad weather (which didn't disappoint!) We stayed in #11 right on the street. Parking was very convenient; just outside our door. We shared the place with another couple and were very comfortable. Two rooms up some long steep stairs with one bathroom, were very comfortable, nothing fancy but nice. Downstairs had a nice little kitchen with sink, stove, oven, microwave and fridge. Dishes and cooking things were there as well. Comfy nice long couch made it comfortable for all four of us to sit on and watch movies. The check in staff was super friendly and there are free movies and games to borrow. We stayed here for two nights. Room appeared clean, but smelled mildew-y. First night was fine, however the second night there was a room with a dog next store, which barked well into the night, and early in the morning. Travelling with kids is hard enough, but when they can't sleep due to a dog, it gets really frustrating. Hotel states on line there are no pets allowed. Also, some people had a bbq by the trash cans, which butted up to the back of our room...left our room very smokey and noisy. For $260 dollars a night, this place sucked. Told the reception desk, she said sorry. Won't be coming back to this place. Don't advise you do either. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to take a quick getaway from Eugene and The only place that had a hot tub in our price range was here and we could not have been more ecstatic when we arrived! It was the most romantic getaway we have ever had. The facility are clean well-kept and cute and the staff was very friendly the walk to the beach with perfect! The rental was impeccably clean. The family area was more spacious than we thought it would be and we appreciated the kitchenette. Staff was friendly and responsive. It was just a short walk to the beach. We would have given 5 stars but for a few things. The room we got was right on the main road and street noise was very bad. We could also hear the people in adjoining rooms clearly as the walls are pretty thin. The kitchen did not have a cutting board which would have been nice. While we could hear the ocean, we could not see it at all from any window and our patio furniture was mere feet from the main road making it a less than inviting place to sit. read more
