If you have a sweet tooth but are burdened with the guilt of wanting to be "healthy" ingrained is your loophole!! I know "vegan, gluten-free, raw" doesn't really sell anyone on being indulgent but this place is it! I had a really hard time deciding what to try first but I narrowed it down to: 1. "Oat of This World Part II" raw bar 2. Matcha Cake Batter Cashew cup The frozen raw bar seriously was super decadent and so hard to believe it was a raw "healthy" food. I enjoyed ever last bite of its creamy caramel-y goodness down to the last bite. This bar goes so good with a side of black coffee. I loved this so much I even tried to clean the container of its remnants after I finished the bar! This made for the perfect breakfast before my 14-mile day of trekking around the city for work. After four hours, I was still going strong with no sugar crash or hunger pangs. It was unbelievable considering how sweet the bar tasted. It really tricked my taste buds and was super satisfying. Talk about making your food count! As a huge fan of matcha, I was excited to give the Matcha Cake Batter Cashew cup a try. If you are a lover of white chocolate, this is the buttercup for you! I didn't realize this was a "white chocolate" cup so I didn't really enjoy that portion of the buttercup. BUT. The matcha part of this was *amazing*. Just the perfect amount of matcha's signature bitter bite balanced out by the creamy nutty flavor of cashews, I dug out the filly and enjoyed every last bit of this matcha goodness. I wish the entire thing was the filling instead!! To my surprise, there was an additional Birthday Cake protein truffle included in my bag. I didn't notice until I got back to my hotel so I'll have to thank Andrew the next time I visit. First of all, just take a look at these adorably decorated fun-sized bites! Tell me this wouldn't just brighten your day just at the sight of it? Now add that feeling to the fact that this was a surprise! I saved these little guys for last because they were just too cute to eat! These perfectly sized protein bites were as delicious and decadent as they were cute. If its anything I've learned about nutritious foods, its tough to eat in large amounts because your body is actually nourished and doesn't crave more because you're satisfied. This works out because I'll have two more bites to enjoy later. The sprinkles actually have little silver stars if you look closely which is fun. Do note that this place is not actually open 24/7. Andrew mentioned they are best reached via IG and they check messages there regularly. Before I was on my way, Andrew handed me a bottle of cold water for my journey back. Different....but delicious During our visit to Chicago we stumbled upon ingrained in one of our walks. The place itself is small, mostly designed for a quick bite or take out. As soon as you walk in all the sweet aromas involve around you, and prepare you for a treat. Although ingrained offers a wide variety of desserts, we were recommended to try their raw bars. I was a bit confused with the first bite, I wasn't really sure what was going on. But with the second bite, I understood the concept, and i could not stop. The raw bar we tried had a variety of different flavors and textures, and it was delicious. Although the price at $8 might seem a bit high, this is a dessert that can easily be shared by two, and it has a clean set of ingredients. I am so happy Ingrained opened up a brick and mortar location.... because I am actually addicted to everything here. BUT..... it's an addiction I can feel good about having. The ingredients here are incredible, and none of it has that 'healthy' taste. Everything I've tried tastes just like a regular dessert, albeit one that you don't have to feel guilty for. I've tried a lot at Ingrained including the samosa bars, rainbow PB bar, lemon pistachio bar, birthday cake bar, cosmic brownie bar, blueberry lemon CBD truffle, s'mores cookie sandwich.... and I think that's it (at least for now) :P. My favorite has been the cosmic brownie and the s'mores cookie sandwich. The only downside is that I wish is that there were caloric/nutritional info available, so I know how many calories I'm consuming when I finish off four bars ;). While the food was okay, I swear you could go onto the eating disorder side of tumblr and find recipes for all the food they serve. This food is truly not good. I got it for gluten free-ness, as I am insensitive, but I highly suggest ordering elsewhere. It totes on being raw, all natural, etc but it's just not good - the idea is great, do not get me wrong, but the food is essentially inedible. The flavors do not go together. It truly does not taste fresh or organic, but muddled together and in need of serious editing. The classic cinnamon roll was essentially in-edible/rubbery and had NO flavor - you can taste the over-sweet icing, but the actual flavor of the roll tastes like nothing. I even tried heating it up - but nope, didn't do anything. It almost made it worse. The birthday cake raw bar had a disgusting after taste that left something to be desired. The sprinkles gave it needed texture but aside from that, it didn't have any birthday cake flavor. The slutty brownie had absolutely no brownie element and tasted mostly like cashew butter and protein. If you like protein, maybe this place is for you, but if you're going here for the tasting element, try someplace else. Incredible service and warm, convenient environment for nutritious and naturally sweet array of products! I had just visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and was looking for a sweet treat to share with friends before hopping onto the train at the Chicago brown/purple lines station. I think the store was just about closing or it may have already been past 7, but the owners--Sydney and Andrew--beckoned me to enter. The shop is very welcoming and I was immediately assisted and given top notch service including a sample of their Oreo Blizzard raw bar (one of my final selections). Both Sydney and Andrew were very gracious with their time, especially considering it was a holiday, and provided recommendations and a free product (a box of their chocolate chip cookies--perfect heated up in the microwave). I ended up purchasing four of their raw bars (the Oreo Blizzard, Cookie Monster, Blueberry Crumble, and Crack Pie). They made the perfect treat for a group-- sweet with very wholesome ingredients! All the raw bars need to be kept frozen and could definitely be served for multiple people at once or stored for later. Similarly, the cookies were each a good size and consisted of a delicate balance of coconut flavor and chocolate (I believe it is Hu chocolate gems that they use). After such outstanding service and flavors, I will definitely have to return my next time in the neighborhood! read more

This is the place of my dreams... unique, delicious, and healthy. I love cake but I always feel sick after eating it but when I eat the cake at ingrained, I feel ENERGIZED and SATISFIED... imagine that! Sydney masterfully creates yummy treats with both taste and your health in mind. You can really tell she cares and is extremely passionate about creating REAL nourishing food. The raw bars are the brands staple and they are INSANELY delicious and they are constantly coming out with new flavors, which is incredible... you're supposed to eat them frozen but I personally love to let one sit out for an hour and eat it like a cheesecake Her husband, Andrew, is also great- very kind and personable, so I always feel welcomed when I come here!! I originally came here last summer and fell in love.. it was actually at the top of my "pros" list for moving to Chicago lol seriously not kidding- I even road-tripped out here in November purely to come here. Coming from LA, I'm used to seeing all sorts of health food places but honestly they tend to either be unnecessarily overpriced (I'm talking to you erewhon) or just claiming to be healthy but then you ask what products or oils they use and they actually just use the cheapest items they can, but ingrained is different! This was my first time trying ingrained and I AM SO HAPPY THAT I DID! One of my friends consistently talked about trying this place so I finally decided to. The staff was so friendly and gave me all the information on different raw bars, breads, soup etc that I may like. The ingredients are excellent and do not give any of the treats a weird "healthy" taste. Everything tasted amazing! I decided on the cacao sourdough and a cinnamon roll. I can definitely say that I could eat the raw bars all day everyday. It is an addiction I would love to have. I do wish more calorie information was given but nevertheless I will definitely be coming back to try the different raw bars. read more
